Be Prepared.

morganpool

To meet the cutest baby you will ever see.                         This is Morgan Marie.         Is she not a dollface?         Morgan’s mommy is my best friend from college. She is a TRUE friend, sticking by me for years – in many cases where I was a not-so-good friend. She has always been there for me.         Morgan and I get along so well.       I think it’s because we have so much in common.         We both have cute, chubby thighs.                         Well, I hope my thighs are that cute.           We both love to eat.             And have an insatiable appetite.                           We like to work off our ice cream doing pushups.                           And make funny faces.                         [...]

Whole Wheat, Buttery Crab Cakes.

IMG_0851

I love this recipe.   It usually ends up slightly different each time since I rarely measure anything, but I include the same ingredients.       I threw this together when I was sick of eating crab cakes with too much ‘filler.’ These bad boys MELT in your mouth. And they are also fairly healthy!     Begin with 16oz of lump crabmeat.                         No imitation crab here.          Beautiful chunks ‘o crab.                And lots of protein!        My main seasonings.                             I am having a love affair with smoked paprika. It is so, so good. I add it to pretty much everything these days.                   It is one of those ingredients that leads people to say “what exactly is in this? I can’t pinpoint it, but it’s excellent!’     Well – that’s what I would probably say.     I use about 1-2 tablespoons of Olive Oil mayo to hold things together. [...]

Mother Lovett: It's My Party And I'll Cry If I Want To.

MotherLovettbday

Mother Lovett was a tiny, tiny, tiny woman.   Let’s just say she had a BIG personality.     She only stood at about 4 feet, 11 inches tall, after osteoporosis had severly hunched her over. She tried her best to (literally) keep her head up, but sometimes it was just too tiring.      The best moments that my cousins and I share involve Mother Lovett. Anyone that knows our family or has crossed paths with us can relate. Unfortunately, but in the MOST lovable way, we often enjoyed a good laugh at  her expense.     And still do.     Such as remembering her 87th brithday last April, the last birthday we would have with her.     She was angry, mad, infuriated – whichever way you want to spin it – she was ticked.     She had a fairly good reason. After almost 50 years, we had finally moved her out of the house her husband built. (I know you are wondering which husband, it was her first.) That house was her life.     But after many falls, bumps, bruises, and scares, along with those other few tiny problems she had – you know, being BLIND [...]

FRA-GEE-LAY.

IMG_0779

Fragile.       I’m sure you all remember the scene in A Christmas Story when the LEG LAMP arrived in the box marked ‘Fra-gee-lay?’     If you don’t recall, Ralphie’s mom really wasn’t a fan.       That is how Mr. Hunt felt a few weeks ago when I brought home this gorgeous specimen.                           I love this lamp. I am such a girl, so anything pink, sparkly, animal-printed, or feather-like immediately catches my eye.       I also LOVE lamps with tiny, crystal beads hanging down. I think they are so cute.                           I want to start a collection.  I already have 2, but I have the feeling if I bring anymore home, I may be sleeping with the turkey.         Maybe he and this guy can have a stare-down?                     Oh fuuuuudge. I can’t wait for the holidays!

The Best Cake You'll Ever Eat.

IMG_0724

This cake is delicious!   I found this recipe on one of my favorite food websites, Picky Palate.  She has wonderful, unique recipes and amazing photography to go along. My mouth usually waters at EVERY recipe she posts, even if it is something I dislike.     This is a layered Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup chocolate cake. Can it get any more decadent than that?   I made it for my hubby’s birthday this past weekend. I thought people would enjoy it, but in all honesty, they were floored.   Well, except for my hub, who looked at me like I was crazy when I was making it. I mean, don’t I know that on any given day he would rather eat plain chicken breasts and grilled steak? Why on earth would I make a cake on his BIRTHDAY??   This is when I promptly kicked him out of my our kitchen and told him to go run a few miles. He would be ingesting 4000 calories worth of cake, after all.   You NEED to make this! Today!     I made a few adjustments to the posted recipe. First off, I wanted to make my own cake from scratch. Mother Lovett: Prologue.

0641

I began blogging for 2 reasons.   1. maternal grandmother. 2. paternal grandmother.   Let’s start with materal grandmother. Many moons ago, my dad lovingly nicknamed his mother-in-law ‘Mother Lovett.’ ‘Lovett’ being her last name. And it certainly was her last name, since she was married to brothers.     Yes people, she was married twice – to BROTHERS. How cool is that?    How 1700′s of her.   Unfortunately, she passed away in late April of this year at the ripe, old age of 87. Her stories live on. And Lordy, let me tell you, THERE ARE STORIES.     We could write a sitcom.     That is an understatement. I wish you could understand.       I will get to the hilarious goods at some point in my blog, but for now I have to give you the excellent background on her so you don’t think I’m hellishly cruel.     She was a baker. A mighty fine one at that. She most likely is the reason I adore baking, and I won’t lie when saying that baking these days occasionally makes me tear up since it is something I used to share with her.     Well, actually when [...]

Stop The Presses.

IMG_0850

I am finally posting a healthy recipe. I know, what has gotten into me? Strange.     I like to make Carmelized Onion and Portobella Quinoa.   I also like to pronouce quinoa, KEEEE-KNOOOW-AHHH.   I mean who would name something as such, and have it pronounced so oddly?   Trader Joe’s quinoa – yum!                         Ok – to be honest, this is BEST when made with butter and olive oil. But we can’t be gluttonous ALL the time, can we?     So with my tail between my legs, I use Butter flavored Pam.        Baby Bellas work best, since you are just going to chop them up.                 My dad doesn’t eat mushrooms. He always says they are not a food, they are a fungus.     He is right.       My quinoa in my pink measuring cup.                  Can you tell I found my macro button on my camera? I don’t even know what it does, but I found it.        This is a quick side [...]

Lobster Mac.

IMG_0735

Most favorite dish EVER. We love, love, love this. I know some say cheese and seafood don’t mesh, but this certainly does. We first had this dish at The Capitol Grille and I wanted to take the chef home with me. So, so, so, so amazing. This is by no means a healthy dish. In fact, this is probably one of the worst dishes you can eat. In moderation? Sure it may be fine, but when you wake up and eat it for breakfast? Not so much. I swear I didn’t do that. This is my re-creation. You need some of these guys. I get them ‘thawed,’ – unfortunately I don’t live in an area where I can get them fresh. Can you even get them fresh? See, I don’t even know things like that. I’ve always lived in a bubble. Semi-creepy. Slimy. These puppies are a PAIN to work with. Or maybe I just don’t do it properly. But I hate getting the meat out of the lobster. I am seriously afraid that it is going to come alive and eat me. I jump about 800 times when cleaning them. For those of you that may have suggestions on [...]

Happy Birthday…

IMG_0791

To my wonderful, mounted-turkey-loving husband, Mr. Hunt.    I am sorry your presents are wrapped in pink.     And that they look like a 5-year old wrapped them.         And that while shopping for your presents, I blew the majority of our money on this.       Hopefully this made up for it.         Or this.         Love you!
