How Sweet It ISN'T.

IMG_0703

Call me old fashioned.   My hubby and I didn’t live together before we got married. So when it came time for me to move in, he had to drag me kicking, screaming, and punching.   Why?   He was a bachelor. Had a MAJOR bachelor pad. I mean, this could rival most bachelor pads. And let’s not forget – he is a decade older than me, so his stuff was just…OLD. But financially, it made sense to live there for a short time – we had plans to buy a house.         First up: boatloads of dye cast cars:                   Don’t think that’s alot? That is about 1/64th of the collection. Strewn about the small townhouse.     Some mini cars, lucky to still be living here:                       On the nice bookcase in the family room, sat these:                   We have alot of them.       I do like this guy:                         Sidney Crosby. What a hottie.   [...]

'Tis The Season.

IMG_0676

For pumpkin.   Ok I am jumping on the bandwagon a bit late. For real. Starbucks started September 1st.    Sidebar: I SWEAR last year in October, BEFORE Halloween, one of the radio stations started playing Christmas music 24/7. I think it is a competition, who can start playing it the earliest. When does your holiday season begin? For me, HOLIDAYS start sometime in November. CHRISTMAS starts after Thanksgiving. I may have shopped before, but I love to enjoy Thanksgiving, then Christmas.   For me, pumpkin starts now.   I made some pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. So delish. They are like tiny cakes.   My husband doesn’t like pumpkin. I hear it’s a fairly common thing? I cannot relate.   I use this in my cookies:                   For those of you that cannot tell what that is (due to my lack of education on taking photos), it is Pumpkin Pie Spice from Trader Joe’s.     I also really like to use Trader Joe’s canned pumpkin.                           But in this case I used Libby’s.             [...]

Million Dollar Ice Cream.

IMG_0347

Does this look like anything special to you?                         Nope? Me either.     What about this?                   Didn’t think so.     On our honeymoon, my new hubby and I paid FIFTY dollars for this ice cream.    I KNOW!     What were we thinking?     Well, we went to Vegas (which we LOVED), and this ice cream came from Caesar’s.   Have ya’ll been there?      If not, there are ‘gelato’ (and I use that term loosely, because I have had real gelato) kiosks inside Caesars Palace. When you walk by, they literally GET IN YOUR FACE trying to give you samples. It tastes good, but not AMAZING. What gets you is the presentation of the ice cream. It has all kinds of yummy things on top – fresh fruit, candy bars, coconut, etc.     It looks like this:                   After days of samples and harassment, we finally gave in. We knew it would be expensive – we thought maybe a bit more than Cold Stone.    [...]

Camera Concerns.

canon_sx100is_3q-001

I think I have a very nice camera. I think it is actually a very expensive camera.   Which means it is nice, right? Isn’t that what today’s kids think? Nice=Expensive?     I can’t really figure out how to take nice pictures with my nice camera. Some of my pictures are coming out yellow. Blech. I’m assuming that would be the lighting? Maybe I should read the book that came along with it.     I have this guy:         I got him in 2007.       Please help.       Or else I might eat cookies to drown my sorrows. Which would lead to THIS.

The Best Banana Bread. Ever.

IMG_0635

I love banana bread. I have loved it since I was young, though I do have to admit that we used to make it out of a box. How dare we! I even think my grandmother made hers out of a box? How dare she! I will have to double check. I stumbled upon this banana bread recipe one evening when I was craving banana bread, but – oh gosh, it’s true – RAN OUT OF SUGAR.  So my first thought, you know, was to run to the store IMMEDIATELY since I come from the internet generation and expect everything NOW. (My dad likes to remind me of this. Alot.) Then, on second thought, also probably due to being a part of the internet generation, I decided I was too lazy. So I hurrily searched for a recipe using only brown sugar. Which I have boatloads of. Because I love it. And it’s brown, so it’s healthy right? Kind of like ‘brown’ flour – aka wheat? Or not. Anyway, I found this recipe from the excellent chefs of Chez us posted on Tasty Kitchen. Have any of you ever been? Well if not, leave here immediately. Go directly to that site. I [...]

THIS makes me panic…

IMG_0631

Do you know what this is? THIS is an EMPTY cookie jar. Sitting on my counter. Nothin’ but crumbs. I bought this cookie jar with the best of intentions.                         My intentions were TO KEEP IT FILLED!  I love to entertain, and occasionally friends & family drop by. How wonderful to have fresh cookies in the jar? Because let’s be honest – if you are ever in a kitchen and there is a cookie jar, you are just wondering if that jar is full. What is the purpose if it is not full?  And if you are in the kitchen of someone you are close to, well by all means you are going to lift that lid and look for cookies. My dad does this. I am usually greeted with one of two reactions. “Cookies! You made cookies, honey!’ OR “No cookies! No cookies in the cookie jar?” AND sometimes I receive a text which cause instant panic to arise. “I’m coming over to eat the cookies out of the jar!”                   When I bought the cookie jar, I [...]

Simple. Savory. Sweet.

IMG_0657

Yes – I will say it. I am not a big fan of veggies. Never have been. Recently I have been preparing them different ways, as suggested by many people to help me LEARN to like them. I have found a few ways, and this perhaps is one of the simplest. I love using these roasted veggies in so many different ways: wraps, salads, pizzas, quesadillas – and I use multiple veggies. My favorite is roasted broccoli – the natural sweetness comes out and combined with the crispy-ness, it is delish. I also tend to use peppers, eggplant, zucchini, onions, squash, and cauliflower. Today I used broccoli, cauliflower, red pepper, and sweet potatoes.                     Once I chop all the veggies, I like to slice a shallot and sprinkle it around the veggies. Shallots are GREAT. A little sweet, the perfect size – they give a perfect hint of flavor to these veggies. Sometimes I also mince some garlic and sprinkle it around as well.                     Once my veggies are on the pan, I drizzle or mist olive oil. In my case – [...]
