Multigrain Rolls and a 'Glo-ing' Giveaway!

IMG_1341

See…I promised I wasn’t going to give you a recipe for the rolls above my jeans. WHO would want that? Not me.     Or my hubs. Hmmm…better do something about these rolls…       I got the idea for this recipe from Miss Martha, of course. I used whole wheat flour for the entire batch, making them super nutty and healthy.         First, I whisked the yeast with some raw honey and buttermilk.                 It has to sit until it gets foamy.           I used about 1/2 of this package.                           Any Michigan natives out there??                           My grandparents are from Michigan and we vacation there every summer – way up north on the lake. I have some of the BEST memories of my life there. A huge part of me would love to live there, or retire there…or…something there. Unfortunately, it is about 10 hours away from me in good ole’ Pittsburgh.   American Spoon has the most [...]

Blog Bootcamp.

IMG_1379

Good Morning!! How is everybody’s Wednesday so far?   Thanks to everyone who is following me on Twitter! If you haven’t started following yet, please join in while I tweet my life away. I still don’t know how to tweet from my crackberry. Oh well, this is probably a good thing.        When I came home last night I found this in my bedroom.                 A glass with the remnants of a green monster from 6:30 yesterday morning. As I tweeted last night, it looked and smelled like swampland. It was almost as great as the half-full green blender still sitting on the counter.             And then we have this.               The remnants of the Oreo Dessert. Beware…this is what happens when your husband is out of town, it is garbage night, and this must be throw away before you gain 15 more lbs. And if you can’t make out that picture, it would be the dessert FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN so the crust could be eaten. By who? I have no idea.                   [...]

Hearty Veggie Soup.

IMG_1213

Update! I just hopped on the Twitter bandwagon. I can’t believe I did it. I feel like I’m 84 yrs old and devoid of any technological knowledge because I don’t know how to use it. However, if you’d like to find out what I’m doing (and baking) every, single minute of every, single day, you can follow me here.     In order to get in more veggies, I threw this veggie soup together. I actually made it last week, but I loved it and was able to eat veggies everyday. Score!   It hasn’t worked out so well this week since the rest of the soup is frozen. I may need to dig it out of the freezer tonight.       When I made this I was craving soup, wasn’t really feeling like meat, and wanted a thick and hearty meal.         I grabbed a bunch of veggies from my fridge and chopped ‘em up.                                          Yes, I do have SOME veggies in my fridge, contrary to popular belief. I used 1 potato just to give the soup [...]

Chicken Romano w/ Lemon Butter Sauce.

IMG_1307

Operation ‘eat more veggies’ failed miserably and majorly today. I roasted some brussel sprouts and zucchini with salt, pepper, olive oil and my new $459 balsamic. It smelled great last night. For lunch, ehhh…not so much. I had 1-2 bites and gave up. It tasted ok, but it tasted like vegetables! Blah! I don’t want vegetables to taste like vegetables. I want them to taste like treats.   Guess I gotta suck it up, eh?     Movin’ on….       This chicken romano is SO good, even I ate some. This post may be a bit short because I am feeling slightly under the weather. Boo.         Make sure you tenderize BOTH sides of the chicken breast.                                                   The trio. Dip the chicken in flour, egg, and romano cheese.                       Dredge through the flour.                         Dip in the egg.                     [...]

A Mother Lovett Kind Of Weekend.

IMG_1293

Happy Monday!   Well, not a very happy Monday for me because it started off with a dentist appointment. I usually do not mind going because there are many things in life worse than the dentist. However, today I was told I have about 8 zillion cavities and will be spending the next few Friday’s in the dentist chair. Hip hip horray.       Thank you all so much for the well wishes on our first anniversary. We spent the day in Cleveland and I was all ready to snap pictures, but my camera decided otherwise. It gave me some goofy ‘lens error’ message – but of course was working again by the time we go home. I saw sooo many beautiful Fall scenes that I wanted to snap.       Something occured over the weekend that had us all in giggles and remembering Mother Lovett. For as long as I can remember, Mother Lovett pronounced about 85% of her words incorrectly and used other phrases that we never heard. I think it is common as we get older, but her’s were always quite humorous.   Some favorites: ML: ‘I found a coupon in the paper for Louie’s. I’d [...]

Oreos and Ice Cream.

IMG_1158

This dessert goes way, WAY back. I can remember my mom making this when I was probably only 7-8 years old. She used to make it for her card club that met on Friday nights. Honestly, they never played cards. They ate, drank, BS-ed, then had dessert. And I always wanted to be included.     We haven’t had it in years, so last weekend I decided I would try to re-create it.     It does take some time, as each layer needs to be frozen prior to the next layer being added. So start the day before or a couple hours ahead of time.     It all begins with some oreos and butter.                 I actually used Original, and not Double Stuffed. I just bought a package of the Double Stuffed to stuff my face with and see if I could double my jean size. It’s working.         I used my food processor – not my beloved mini – but the normal size.                           Let’s add some milk and eat this oreo cereal. Or just [...]

The First Year.

0103

Last weekend, my hubby and I went to a very non-traditional wedding. It was outdoors (talk about freezing!), where the bride and groom were married by a professional actor and the music came from a boom box.   I took away so much from this day – that it isn’t about having a traditional cake (they had cupcakes) or about wearing the most glamourous dress. These 2 people were SO in love. And while I already knew that the above doesn’t make for a happy marriage, it was so refreshing to see a couple so in love that they barely were aware of their surroundings.   The food was INCREDIBLE. Hands down – the best wedding food I have ever eaten. The main course was butternut squash ravioli and bone-in lightly fried chicken breast. Ohmigosh, I can taste it now. Incredible. The cake, or ‘cupcakes’ were amazing as well – so amazing that before the reception even started my husband grabbed one and confidently walked across the room shoving it in his mouth.   He ATE their wedding cake BEFORE they even cut it.   Before the reception had began. I guess he really just isn’t up to speed on [...]

The Ultimate Marinade.

IMG_1222

This marinade is incredible – as well as extremely versatile. It is super simple to throw together, and chances are you have most of the ingredients already.   It takes less than 5 minutes.       We have been using this in my family for years. The base is some simple soy sauce.                         I prefer the reduced-sodium version. I’d rather get my sodium load in other blood pressure raising meals.        Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl or baking dish.                                 Give it a good whisk!                     The most common foods we marinate in my house are chicken and steak. The marinade is also INCREDIBLE on shrimp before it is grilled, or on veggies (not that I would know). I can imagine it may also be good with tofu.                                Hmmm..didn’t I just post about a possible vegetarian switch? By the way, thank you all so, so much for [...]

The Pretend Vegetarian.

IMG_1259

Happy weekend! It could not get here soon enough.   For about a year now, I have had a strong aversion to meat. It pretty much came out of the blue, but I think it stemmed from that time I lost my mind competition dieting.   It began with chicken. I can’t swallow it if I take it bite. It literally makes me gag. It’s not the taste, but the texture. I actually like the taste. Then a few months ago, I developed an aversion towards beef and fish. I also ate alot of this while competition dieting.   I absolutely CANNOT cook chicken, steak, or fish for myself and want to eat it. The whole process of cooking it grosses me out. If I see one tendon or vein or a bit of gristle…GROSS! I’m done. (Note: I still cook meat everyday for my hubby, friends and family, and some of my recipes are really, very good. Of course I am still going to whore these out detail these on the blog.)   I CAN eat meat out in nice restaurants. (And seriously, how gross is THAT? Then I really don’t know what I’m eating). Only a few bites, however. I [...]
