A Boy’s Job.
Thank you all so much for your amazing responses to the first post where I really poured my heart out. It felt so good. To be honest, I am not afraid of rejection. Trust me, I expect to be rejected thousands of times. But when it is something that I really want, the fear or rejection doesn’t stop me.
Â
Last night, I decided to shovel the driveway. This was really the first time shoveling for me, because, well . . . I lived in a house with a father and 2 brothers, and now I live in a house with a husband. Yes, I may be a brat – but that doesn’t meant it isn’t a man’s job. :)
And while living at home, it’s not like my brothers did much work either. But just knowing there were 2 boys in the house that should could do the work before me? I certainly wasn’t doing much manual labor.
Â
However, my hubby has a looooong commute to and from work. I knew that after his long drive home and few hours in the gym, he’d feel like he had to come home and shovel, given his recent addiction.
I decided to shovel so we could spend some time together and he wouldn’t be shoveling at 11pm. It was a purely selfish decision.
This is about 1/4 of the drive.
Â
My shoveling job wasn’t pretty, and wasn’t nearly as concise as my ‘more-type-A-than-me’ husband. But it got the job done.
And this is what I was wearing.
Â
Overall, I enjoyed the shoveling experience. Our driveway is huge, and at first it was very daunting and overwhelming. I felt like I would never, ever finish. But it was peaceful being outside in the snow.
Except for the deer that I could see laying down in the woods. I was sure it was planning it’s attack.
Â
After my thighs defrosted I was off to make dinner, which I was super excited about.
Fish Tacos!
Â
I grilled some cod with old bay, and used La Tortilla Factory tortillas – they are my favorite with lots of fiber + protein. I also love the texture and the taste.
To the tacos I added:
tomatos
red onion
cilantro
avocado
TJ’s roasted corn
colby-jack cheese
lemon + lime juice
Â
These were so delicous! They tasted so fresh and sweet. I would have preferred to use halibut, but I couldn’t find it in my neck of the woods. It was still mighty tasty.

Congrats on doing a boy’s job and rocking it! Go you. :)
Those tacos look amazing… making my mouth water.
i did our driveway when it snowed last week… and realized that our non level driveway SUCKS to shovel.
next time, i’m leavin’ it for a man.
mmmm, fish tacos are SOOO good! i hate shoveling the driveway, but it’s so nice when you can get in and out easily…and i bet the husband appreciated it :)
I shoveled once this year and I had so much fun doing it.
for the first 10 minutes. then it was cold and annoying and I found myself cursing under my breath at the former fiance whose job this WOULD have been this winter. (one of the perks of the break up? being able to blame him for EVERYTHING and not feel guilty about it ;) jk)
i am now determined to try fish tacos- those look yummy! i’ve never had a fish taco and I dont cook fish v. often- when i do i usually just make honey mustard baked tilapia. Can you give me some tips? can i use any kind of fish in a taco? can i use tilapia? HELP ME OH GREAT COOKING GODDESS!
I bet your husband thought you did a wonderful job. So wonderful in fact that you should probably continuing to shovel the drive. But why stop there? You could also take out the garbage and clean the toilets, which you probably consider “boy jobs” as well. I bet your husband would greatly appreciate that. If you really loved your husband you would do this. And he might start liking coconut for you. Sounds fair to some guy that is clearly “not your husband.”
way to go with shoveling the driveway :) that is hard work!! delicious tacos too :)
wow you ARE a good wife :) i’m sure your hubs was so happy and relieved to see it all finished up and one less thing he would have to worry about.
those fish tacos look great and la tortilla factory is one of my fav brands of wraps!
HAHAHA “A Boy’s Job”!! That’s so funny because growing up, my brothers always shoveled.. that was their chore. But now I love to shovel! It’s great exercise and I like the mindlessness of it. I guess since I was deprived of it growing up, I crave it now!!
I’m weird.
so funny about the deer planning its attack! shoveling snow is one thing i’m definitely not jealous about, despite my wish for snow here in CA! and in response to your last post…omg i love figs!!!!!! i just made figgy babies (from chocolate covered katie) with cashews and chocolate chips = so good.
yep…one thing being a writer has taught me is that you can’t get upset about rejections. I probably get a rejection for my poems in the mail once every two weeks or so. Fun stuff :-)
It builds character, right? And eventually somebody says yes!
I love doing something that is both exercise and has a purpose. I would totally shovel if I were you. Except, I HATE the cold. So I really probably wouldn’t shovel at all…
Fish tacos!! Yummy!! :) I bet the avocado and cilantro really added so much delicious flavor!!
Shoveling. I can honestly say in this lifetime i never plant to do that again. Ever. First, i hate the cold. Secondly, I’ll make raw balls while the men shovel the snow. LOL
Fish tacos. Look amazing! Cod makes my airway swell shut but the rest of the flavors look awesome.
Thanks for your great comment you left :) I feel so blessed to have you in my life too honey bunny!!!!
And thx for your honesty bout product reviews. I dont love to do them that much but i get sent all this products and it’s like ok… i need to post it so yeah that’s the dealio on that one :)

I want to try fish taco soon!! Those sound great :)
I have never had a fish taco … but people always talk about how good they are. For some reason I am scared to try them – silly I know!
