Chocolate Chip Cupcakes with Cookie Dough Frosting.

March 5, 2010 · 101 comments

These cupcakes are a spin off of the popular cookies and cream cupcakes, which I am still having dreams about.

Dreams so vivid, that I can taste them in my sleep.

Or . . . maybe that is just the cookies I was eating in bed.

Kidding! (Sort of.)

These cupcakes are dreamy, too.

I used the good ole’ recipe for my vanilla bean cupcakes, and simply added some chocolate chips.

They came out super moist and tasty.

It’s like a cookie in cupcake form.

I would be lying if I said these stuck around for a few days. Heck, they barely stuck around for a few minutes! And this time, we didn’t share. We hoarded the cupcakes.

That ooey, gooey frosting down there? It tastes just like cookie dough. And you may as well just slather it on the cupcake, because there is no way the chocolate chunks are fitting through a pastry bag.

That’s fine by me. I’ll suck it up for the chocolate chunks.

Chocolate Chip Cupcakes

makes 12 cupcakes

1/2 cup butter

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 1/2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup milk

1 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350.

Cream butter, sugar, and eggs together until fluffy. Add vanilla.

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. Add half of the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Add the milk. Once mixed, add remaining dry ingredients. Add chocolate chips and mix if you’d like them in smaller pieces.

Pour into cupcake tins and bake for 20-25 mins at 350. Let cool, then frost.

Cookie Dough Frosting

2 sticks butter, softened

1 1/2 – 2 lbs powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1-2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk

1/2 cup chocolate chips

Mix butter and powdered sugar together, adding sugar gradually to the mix. Add vanilla. Mix in milk, adding more if needed. Continue to add milk and sugar until it reaches the desired consistency. Mix in chocolate chips.

I refuse to let Mr. How Sweet eat any cupcakes for fear of the frosting getting stuck in the moustache.

Yep, the ‘stache is still going strong. As this point, I am just thoroughly disgusted. He is already 10 years older than me, and now he looks 20 years older than me.

If he is going to look that much older, he should at least pretend to be a sugar daddy and buy me some expensive shoes. Or a new car. And stuff for my friends. What do you want? I’ll start taking order now.

So so good! I love cupcakes. I prefer them to a whole cake, probably because I feel like I get more frosting to cake ratio. Delicious recipe! Thanks!
I’m loving the ‘stache saga

How ’bout I just mix up a huge bowl of the frosting and eat the entire thing in one sitting? The cupcakes are merely a vehicle, you know.

How long till lunch?!

How about he send us on a trip to Italy? He doesn’t have to come. Maybe he would enjoy the time alone with no one bothering him about his ‘stache? It’s a win-win situation.

Cookie dough frosting! brilliant! I wouldn’t have thought that sweetened condensed milk would do the trick to make it taste like dough — this I have to try!

Mr. How Sweet It Is March 5, 2010 at 10:50 am

darling wifey,

not only is mr. how sweet not shaving off the mustache, he is going to trim it up very nice so that a picture can be posted for your reader’s delight. he is also going to talk about himself in the 3rd person. but he digresses. i think i know what has been missing from those blog and that thing is a killer ‘stache. my ginger/blonde/platinum 1980′s stock car driver ‘stache is where it’s at.

remember, it’s not the man that makes the mustache, it’s the mustache that makes the man.

i think my coworkers are actually looking to my mustache for guidance. if i worked with someone with a tight ‘stache like this, i’d certainly feel as though there was a stabilizing force in the office.

Katie March 5, 2010 at 11:57 am

I usually prefer a slice of cake…but you’ve got me with these cupcakes. Maybe it’s the frosting, I don’t know. Either way – tell Mr. Mustache that he can start his sugar daddy status off right by buying me a plane ticket to your house for dinner sometime. I’m inviting myself, I guess. ;-)

I love the frosting part too, my kids would love that!! I think I will make those for my son’s b-day party in a few weeks. I think a bunch of his 14 year old friends would like it….I’d better make a double batch!

Reply

Jessica March 5, 2010 at 12:23 pm

You know, Mr. How Sweet His Mustache IS NOT might have completely refused to shave his stache in the comment above but he did not refuse the idea of being your sugar daddy… sooo…in that case… I think a few trips, new cars, expensive shoes, jewelry, and whatever we can conjure up is in order! :D Bring it on moostache man! hahaha!

Not to mention a batch of those delishious looking pieces of heaven in cupcake form above. :) *mMmMmMm….cookie dough!*

Kacy March 5, 2010 at 12:48 pm

Haha, frosting ‘stache has to be the grossest visual ever. Except for maybe cereal milk dripping off of it. Ick!

Reply

Therese March 5, 2010 at 1:02 pm

I’ll skip the cupcake and just eat the frosting. On second though give me both :)

Hunny I feel your pain with the stache. At least his isn’t of the handle-bar variety…

Your husband is hilarious! I don’t think it makes anyone look credible in the office, only outdated–severely. Here’s a tip: Don’t smell it after he has drank milk. The milk holds on to the hairs, and starts to stink. Gross!

I’m telling you, the only way to squash this situation is to withhold. It is the only thing that we can hold over their heads! Battle on!

P.S. Those things look amazing!

Quesdillas and chocolate chip cupcakes? I love you.

Any tips on a new running shoe? I’ve got to get new ones and have no clue which brand is best…all the past shoes I’ve had have failed me in some way…nike and underarmour…

Reply

Jessica March 5, 2010 at 4:44 pm

I’m not a big runner, but I have heard that NIke/Under Armor shoes are pretty much crap for running. My hubby who runs marathons feels that way. We really like Brooks! Asics also have a pretty good reputation.

Is there a store that will fit you and test you on a treadmill? We have a few around here and they are super helpful.

Oh yeah baby!

So if you say the frosting tastes like cookie dough, would you say it’s the butter and sugar that make it? Just trying to think dairyfree what i can do or what that special thing is to make it vegan.

Thanks for the sweet commetn you left on mama pea’s site for me. ROCK your kale and nooch!!
