I have never been able to get into almond butter.

The reason? It just isn’t sweet enough for me.

And I don’t want to hear any of that mumbo jumbo about how if I really savor the taste, I can find it’s natural sweetness.

Because that is what everyone tells me about vegetables, and that is a blatant lie.

The only way I will ever find vegetables to be sweet, is if I douse them in chocolate fudge sauce.

And I’m sure if I mixed some almond butter with a big glug of chocolate fudge, I would love it, too.

However, I really enjoy almonds, so I wanted to take a jab at trying my own.

I already knew that I don’t particularly enjoy plain almond butter, so I needed to spice it up.

I added a bit of cocoa powder, and a handful of dried cherries from Frog Hollow Farm, which are deliciously fabulous.

Initially, I thought I would need to add some sweetness, such as maple syrup, but the dried cherries did the job.

Chocolate Cherry Almond Butter

1 cup almonds

2 tablespoons canola oil

1/4 cup dried cherries

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

pinch of sea salt

Add almonds to food processor and blend until smooth. Add in the rest of ingredients, streaming in canola oil, and pulsing to combine. Blend until smooth.

I love making my own nutbutter’s at home.

I usually have most ingredients on hand, and it only takes a few minutes.

It is also more economic, and that leaves me more money to buy shoes.

I would starve for a few months for a pair of Christian Louboutin’s.

I’m not a huge fan of almond butter either! Everybody seems to love it but it’s just… eh. There’s nothing spectacular about it. But THIS sounds awesome. :)

Um yes – I too would go without for Louboutin’s…haha They are just too beautiful (and comfortable, I hear – amazing!). This sounds awesome!! I will say this – the dark chocolate almond butter by maranatha is… utterly amazing – for lack of better description. I, too, cannot do “plain” almond butters … at the very least, it needs to be honey roasted. The Maranatha stuff is too expensive to justify buying it all the time…but my god — it went into my mouth by the spoonful.

I think we are born with certain things we like and while our tastes can be changed…I think you are more prone to like more things than other! That is why some people LOVE chocolate and some are not so into it. I love making my own nut butters too and adding things to make fun flavors. Chocolate and cherry sound like a great combo for Almond Butter! YUM!

I hate when people tell me that I’ll like something if I just…(insert whatever here)..No, I won’t. If I don’t like it, I don’t like it. I’m glad you found a way to work with the almonds though!

That looks phenom! The almond + cherry combo sounds delicious.

What kind of food processor do you use? I tried to make nut butter once and failed miserably…I think it was mainly due to my food processor. Everything just ended up out of reach of the blade…if that makes sense…

I have a Cuisinart – it is giant. I think it is the largest you can buy before going for a commercial size.

This happens to me too, but I just turn it off and scrape the butter, etc around with a spatula. I usually have to do that 5-10 times when making nut butter to get everything combined.

I also have a mini food processor but I don’t think it’s powerful enough for nuts.

You crack me up! Your almond butter sounds really yummy. I normally don’t do plugs, but the Barney Butter we were giving away on The Foodie Blogroll last month was really good. It is almond butter, but the first almond butter I ever “got into”. I know she gives out samples sometimes on her website….

Oh that looks GOOD. What a great idea to add the dried cherries! I love that it’s sweetened naturally… and it’s homemade. Is it hard to get the almonds and ingredients to process smoothly? And did you soak the almonds first? Hmmm, that actually might make a big mush.
I will need to try this recipe!
