A Sunday Drive.
This past weekend, Mr. How Sweet and I went for a little Sunday drive because why not waste gas when the economy is tanked and one of you is unemployed? for our anniversary.
I have said it before and I will say it again, but I love fall.
If there is a place where the fall air is blowing, the leaves are always golden and a cinnamon spice candle is always burning, I must live there.
That is my utopia.
All I really wanted to do was drive somewhere and take pretty pictures of fall scenes.
So we did that.
And then I uploaded the pictures and thought… “Well, that’s kind of boring.”
Then I just decided to ramble.
I wish I could tell you that Mr. How Sweet is the perfect gentlemen when he drives.
But I can’t.
Mainly because I’m still scarred from the obscenties he screamed and the way he smells after 2 hours in the car.
We really took this drive to go to the Seven Springs Autumnfest, but that turned to mush once we got there and realized the festival was really great if you have children.
And even though sometimes I feel like I have a 37-year old child of my own, Autumnfest wasn’t holding our attention like it should. It was full of crafts – which are great – but not my thing. You will learn why tomorrow.
Perhaps the most significant thing I learned on this car ride, while celebrating 2 years of marriage, is that if you want to hear your husband really shout obscenities, you should try taking pictures with a large camera at different angles out his front window.
I think the only thing Mr. How Sweet really learned on this sweet, little Sunday drive is that he should have invested in a muzzle.
And we don’t have a dog.
See, when I write really long, boring posts am on a really long car ride, I like to talk.
A lot.
About major life issues. Like what pair of black stilettos I should buy next.
And Mr. How Sweet isn’t quite the… talkative type.
But that’s okay.
I can just see us 40 years from now going on a Sunday drive, eating at the early bird special, and heading to bed at 9pm.
Oh wait… that already happens. Oh well. We’re old souls.

This post made me smile. My husband is the same way – not very talkative. But he seems to like it when I “chatter” at him (his word). He says it means I’m happy :)
Haha it seems a lot of bloggers (myself included) like taking pictures of big trees lately! Maybe we should ALL get in a car with Mr How Sweet and have him take us for a drive so we can snap some more photos…. ;) I think you guys are such a cute couple – even if you’re old souls!!
Gorgeous pictures!! Fall is the best!! My husband and I are old souls also! ;)
I do the same thing in the car, but I’m pretty sure my husband ignores me. I don’t mind because I’m usually babbling anyway :)
Haha I love this post. It looks like you got some great pictures that really capture fall! That’s one thing I miss about living in DC v. being in Connecticut – the seasons!
Cute post! The pics are gorgeous! :)
gorgeous pictures!
We are old souls too! Nothing wrong with that at all!
Such a cute post!! Love the photos :) :)
Mr How Sweet takes the same approach to driving that I do… although I *try* to tone it down when others are in my car… sometimes words slip (shout?) out…
:) the photos are beautiful – I love fall leaves…
Beautiful pics!! If y’all ever want to take a road trip to Altoona…we’ll be here!!! :-D
This post cracked me up! Christian and I are both very quiet. We’ve gone for car rides and not said two words to each other. We just listen to NPR like the dorks we are and sit there. It’s okay, I like it that way. The last thing I want to do is talk about owls and sports. The only things he’s interested in….hahahaha!

This post is, in a word, awesome. haha
….probably because I can totally relate…except in my world, I would have gotten us lost on the way to Autumnfest only to show up to find it inhabited by people toting 2 year olds. And that is why I’m thankful he married me before he found out all of my “best” qualities :)
Ah, old souls… he may not be talkative, but that means he’s listening to you and really taking in what you’re saying. And it also may mean he is sleepy. Or exasperated.
So pretty! I’m totally missing fall right now.
woman will you teach me how to do that line out stuff. lol
You use blogger right? I only know how to do it on wordpress! Make the switch. :)
We are also old souls. And I LOVE fall. I took pictures of the trees in our neighborhood yesterday to show our family back home. Never had a fall before until last year!
I love fall so much too – and your pictures are gorgeous! And don’t worry about being an old soul – my bedtime is also 9pm. All the cool kids are asleep before Gossip Girl comes on.
We did the same thing on Sunday, only we ended up at the Covered Bridge Festival where we ate our weight in funnel cakes, corn dogs, deep-fried curly-Q potatoes and pumpkin ice cream. Today when I weighed myself the scales read “skip the food booths and take some photos of trees.”
Hahahahah. I just love you.
You just made me feel not as bad for talking my husban’ds ear off.
hahaha ohh I could see jason and I doing that same thing! :) but yes I already go to be by 10 pm every night and I wouldnt want it any other way! beautiful pics!
LOL, you and Mr. Sweet sound like Dustin and me; we go to the diner for dinner, watch a little TV, and then we’re in bed and up by 5:00am to let our umpteen kitties outside. The fun never ends!! :D
Ha ha! You are so funny, Jessica! Your photos are gorgeous!
I love fall too. Like with a burning passion. It is the best season EVER!!!
Great pictures girl!
Amanda
Jessica!
I LOVE your writing!
You are gifted!
I know you and your Mr. How Sweet have a FUN time together!
I mean who wouldn’t have FUN with your adorable self!
Happy two years Sweet~Pea~Zee!
Live and LOve and PLAY together!
xoxoxoxo
Those are some GORGEOUS shots! Unfort, the leaves dont get that pretty her ein Oklahoma. They may be a slight yellow for a day, th en they are brown, and then they are gone!
Oh, how I love Pennsylvania in the fall! Your photos are beautiful. And your commentary is spot-on. Why is it that men tend to revert to obscenities during long car rides? Why can’t they be chipper and camera-happy like us?
I have always loved your blog, but I have to tell you that I am loving it more than ever these days. I’ve decided that it’s because of the freedom your heart has to be itself now that you don’t have a job you hate looming over you day and night.
You’re creative, funny, charming, and so in love with Mr. How Sweet that I should probably make an appointment to see my dentist soon… my teeth are beginning to hurt from the sweetness!
Incidentally, I have NEVER eaten red velvet anything. The red food color always turned me off. Of course, nobody ever offered it to me with CREAM CHEESE. Hello world…I’m about to try something new!
Thank you so much! This means so much to me. <3
I love your “boring” Autumn pictures! It’s my favorite time of year too. People think I’m crazy for wanting to live in a place where this crisp air never leaves. I think they’re sort of nuts for not understanding how beautiful and refreshing it is. :-)
I read your blog, but not regularly. This will change. I need more people around me who understand the detriment of being in a job that is life-sucking. It sounds like that is true, based upon Becca’s comments, above. Plus, my husband and I frequently take drives… even though the economy is tanked and one of us is quasi-unemployed. I think we could commiserate on life in general, a couple of old souls to another.
Oh girl… I feel your pain. Vent to me anytime!
I lost my job (hooray economy). But, both of our commutes were over an hour. I was getting up at 5am, leaving at 5:45, working from 7:15-5:30 (no lunch break) and still didn’t feel I got enough done. So, I’d take home work…. and I’d get home around 7. To top it off, I worked for a horrific boss in a very disorganized business. Now? I do independent contractor work while I search for a good “next job”. Luckily, my husband has a good job that he likes. Our commutes are now 5 minutes each. He works from 8-5, with a lunch, and I work my own hours.
I suspect I will live longer because of losing my previous job. I made a good income, but it really did vaporize any life I had outside the office.
So here’s to the unemployed… where being unemployed is not desirable, but it’s better than the jobs we had before!
