Peppermint Mocha Milkshake.
I’ve told you before that I don’t like coffee, unless it is loaded with lots of sugar and syrups and cream. And whatever other addictive substance they put in that liquid crack. Naturally, peppermint mochas fit the bill. I like to enjoy one or two hot peppermint mocha lattes during the holiday season, but since I also don’t love warm drinks, I’d rather drink them cold.
This makes me sound quite picky. I promise I am not.
Except when it comes to shoes. And chocolate. And men. You know, all of the important things.
Last Friday, I swung through the Starbucks drive-thru and got the elusive peppermint mocha. A medium. Not a grandelargeventiwhateveryoucallit. I’m seriously an embarrassment to myself.
I have many bad habits, but am thrilled to say that spending money on daily coffee and going through drive-thru’s are not one of them. Instead I choose to throw money away on inanimate objects like shoes that can only be worn once.
As I stumbled out of bed on Saturday morning, all I could think about was this peppermint mocha. They must have added extra crack on Friday. I don’t know what else it could be. All I knew was that I needed it now.
And when there isn’t a single grind of good coffee in your house, you whip up a frozen shake!
Let me just tell you that I adore mint and chocolate combinations. I find them to be incredibly refreshing and you get to eat more since it doubles as a breath mint.
This was so delicious that I have had three more glasses since Saturday. One being last evening as I watched the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show feeling like a stuffed sausage.
And I didn’t even have to brush my teeth before bed because it was so minty!
Sorry Mr. How Sweet.
Peppermint Mocha Milkshake
serves 1
1 cup chocolate milk (almond, rice or soy works too!)
4 ice cubes
1/2 cup greek yogurt (ice cream works too, I just didn’t have any)
1/2 tablespoon instant coffee powder (this can be adjusted given your coffee tastes)
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
1/4 teaspoon sugar for some sweetness
whipped cream for garnish
1 candy cane
Throw all ingredients into a blender except for whipped cream and candy cane. Bread the top off of the candy cane and crush. Pour shake into glass and top with whipped cream and crushed candy cane. Throw the remaining candy can stick in the shake!
The best part? I get this all to myself. Mr. How Sweet hates chocolate and mint together. I know. What planet is he from?

That looks so good!!! My husband would love that; peppermint mochas are his fave Starbucks treat.
What a great idea! I was obsessed with pumpkin milkshakes last year…I think I might have to make one tonight! :)
My husband would LOVE this. As I’ve gotten older, though, I’m one of those weirdos that isn’t a fan of peppermint in my beverages. Odd, I know.

I love mint and chocolate together – andes mints sprinkled on top of this would be tasty I bet!
Awesome! Girlfriend, you read my mind! I had 1 (2) at Barnes and Noble while I was in MT visiting relatives, but I live in the boonies and we don’t have anything except a small coffee shop that is closed on Mondays (of all things)! I have been dying for another and was just about to surf the net to see what I could find. Now I don’t have to!
By the way, a pair of boots that I absolutely cannot live without:

On another unrelated note – sorry I’m posting twice – we have the same measuring spoons. I am very excited.

This is KILLING me right now. Can you deliver one to my house right now? It looks fabulous.
OMG! Can I just say.. I love you! I made this as a Protein shake (sub: Chocolate muscle milk light for chocolate milk ;omit sugar) Mine didn’t look as pretty as yours though :)
so my sister and I just made this but we used real mint instead of peppermint extract…that counts as a serving of vegetables, right?
