I think we all know how I feel about coffee.

It tastes like dirty water. So does tea. It tastes like grass and dirty water. Yuck.

I get an occasional latte from Starbucks that is loaded with cream and sugar and syrup and everything deliciously delicious. I may have it two or three times a year – coupled with the fact that I’m not a fan of hot beverages and that caffeine makes me batty, I mostly stay away. It’s easy when you don’t like that taste. Oh! I can also see myself getting wildly addicted to it. I’d rather eat my calories than drink them. And my “pick me up” has been working out first thing in the morning for over 10 years. I’m keeping it that way.

But I want to like coffee. Waaaah! I wish I was cool enough to like it. I want to sit in a coffee shop and read a book and drink coffee. I want to pretend like I know and care what an Americano is. Is that something? I think I’ve heard of it. Maybe I just made that up.

Anyway, over a year ago I bought a french press. I tried every chocolate, tiramisu, coconut, and almond flavor of coffee under the sun. It was okay. Without a pound of sugar and a gallon of milk, it tasted like garbage. Hot, disgusting garbage.

Then one day, my french press broke!

I was sad. And since the only thing I really excel at is wasting money, I went out and bought another one.

But it’s a mini one. Actually, I got it on sale at Sur La Table for like… $5.99. Or something. I don’t remember.

Then I found this at Target.

I can never pass up a pretty package. Especially when it’s pink.

I decided today was the day.

I poured in the water.

I let it sit.

I figured it would be the perfect day to use my milk frother that Ashley got me.

She’s the best!

After four minutes, I poured the coffee over the froth.

Ashley also got me that mug. She is cool.

Mmmm… it smelled like strawberries!

Imagine that.

Then, since I’m five years old, I did something else.

And it was perfect.

The end.

LOL—I feel the same way about coffee and tea—-only hot drink is dark chocolate cocoa—-not the milk chocolate kind either. And can’t even stand the smell of coffee shops. Glad someone else feels like I do.

Adorable! I’m loving these new, colorful Bodium presses. Mine is old school and all black (boring!). I do really love these though because they are perfect for making one to two cups of coffee. Love the sprinkles! You are such a cutie!

I love coffee and lately I’ve been looking for the flavored coffees to enjoy iced. Well I’ve had Dunkin Donuts coffee and I just wasn’t impressed.. Until I tried the french vanilla flavor… AMAZING! I recently picked up the toasted almond flavor and it tastes delicious iced with the dark chocolate almond milk from silk. Toasted almond mocha iced, why yes it is!

Reading about your coffee whimsy, I couldn’t help but think, “That’s the same way I feel about it!”. Then the shear amusement of it all made me think that you need your own talk show!

This is actually the same way I feel about beer. I keep trying. :-) Does this mean you like coffee now?

What’s your secret non-caffeinated “pick me up”? I’m dying for non-caffeine ways to wake up a bit in the morning and mid afternoon.

    • Jessica — March 1st, 2011 @ 11:31 pm

I’ve never really experienced an afternoon slump, but I think fruit and nutbutter usually energizes me. As for mornings, I work out in the morning, but have never had an issue not feeling awake as long as I get enough sleep. I’ve never done caffeine so I guess I’ve never known what it’s effects are like!

I super duper love coffee!!! I would love to get a French press. I don’t know why I haven’t yet. I’m good at wasting money but I’m better at procrastination…
