Tuesday Things.
1. Last night my entire family went bowling and this was like the first time I’ve been bowling in probably, uh… 20 years. I am just fantastic. You should see me. I got a 44 for my first game, then a 38 for my second. Everyone REALLY wants to take me bowling again.
2. I got Mr. How Sweet lots of nice stuff for Christmas, and it turns out the only thing he really loves is the cheap remote control helicopter I gave him. It has saved my life. Like now I can scream, “go play with your helicopter!!!”
3. He got me lots of nice stuff for Christmas, but I still didn’t find a maid in my stocking. So he is currently upstairs cleaning the bathroom on his Christmas vacation.
4. Even though he didn’t get me the maid, he did get me the iPad 2… so tell me wise friends: which apps should I download? If there is one thing I succeed at it is spending money.
5. It’s definitely not bowling.
6. Oh and one more holiday related item: I stuffed his stocking with beef jerky, beef stick, Bone Suckin’ seasoning and… pumice stones. I swear he’s a man.
7. I have eaten out or eaten dinner at someone else’s house seven out of the last eight days. It has been GLORIOUS.
8. I have 8 billion cookies in my house. Please come over.
9. I want to make something delicious for New Years Eve but I have no idea what and I don’t go out because I’m secretly 95 years old and will probably fall asleep by 11:37 anyway. What should I make?
10. I can’t stop staring at this picture of Bella and I legitimately want to eat her face off.
11. Now that I’ve made this all about me, tell me what your goals are for 2012! I love goals. Goals schmoals. (<- it just sounded good.)

iPad eh? I just remember the post where you said you’d rather read old school books vs electronic :)
Of course you have to get angry birds & words with friends. I have the food network app & all recipes & epicurious too.
Oh I definitely didn’t get the iPad to read books! Didn’t even cross my mind. More so just for blogging and work stuff when I travel and am away from the computer. Don’t worry – I will never sell out. Old school books all the way!
I will say though that magazines on the iPad are pretty cool. I think that the iPad is good for that because the graphics look really good. I have the Zinio app for the magazines. Flip board is also a pretty cool app too. Speaking of magazines, it lets you see your google reader, Facebook & other things in magazine form.
Hmm…don’t really have a goal for 2012….better get crackin!
I played with my aunt’s iPad and she had the Wheel of Fortune app – very fun if you like that game! :)
Goals: save money up for a new lens for my camera, get my personal trainers cert, re-design my blog. I recommend that you make Texas caviar for a nye appetizer. Black-eyed peas are good luck. I will most likely be staying in because I am a home-body and I would rather sleep than watch the ball drop. That being said, I will probably be making myself a roast chicken dinner with some roasted butternut squash and for dessert, strawberry cupcakes. Just an idea. haha! Happy New Year!
My husband and my brother both got helicopters like that for Xmas last year. They were both broken by the end of the day. Boys…
My husband broke his yesterday, but luckily we got the $4 replacement part kit… ha!
haha! You know him too well ;)
One of my goals is to complete a 5k run at the end of April. Given that I have absolutely loathed running my entire life, this will be quite the challenge ;D I’m doing it to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis though, so if that’s not incentive to get my butt running, I don’t know what is!
YES! A maid service! It’s the gift we all dream of.
I don’t even know what I’d do with an iPad. I’m sure it wouldn’t be good, though. I’m terrified that I would trip and fall on it. Actually, I’m terrified I’m going to trip and fall PERIOD, but add the iPad and I’d really feel like a schmuck.
BELLA!!!!Ahhhh want to squeeze her!
Guess what we didn’t do this year? Bake Christmas cookies (I KNOW). I’m on my way over.
download paprika, it’s a recipe organizer, not cheap but definitely worth it!!!
Haha I continue to love you more and more each day. 1) I never go out on NYE either – I’m lame. 2) My brother in law got one of those helicopters for christmas and was trying to make it land on my head all day yesterday. 3) I haven’t thought about 2012 yet.
Huffington Post just posted an article 2 days ago about the best apps for your new iPad. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/25/best-ipad-apps-10-essential-apps_n_1163263.html
I suggest Zite! The article calls it “pandora for news”, and it’s right :)
Any apps that help with measurement conversions help me out mucho.
Also, Evernote and Wunderlist, which both sync with their respective websites, and with your iPhone. Amazing.
We’re having a party on NYE with a bunch of hors d’oeuvres, and the highlight of said hor d’oeuvres (in my humble opinion) will be slices of homemade pizza topped with super-caramelized red onions, creamy goat cheese, and huge, crispy chunks of pancetta. Simple, easy, yet soooooooo delicious. Again, just an idea. :) My goals are to take a few pottery classes and learn how to bake bread. Yours? Happy New Year!
We’re doing steaks on the grill for NYE at a friends house. Simple and low key!
You’ll love the iPad! I’m a bit obsessed. Apps….
AppStart: helps you find apps you didn’t know about,
iMovie: makes movies, SUPER fun,
Flipboard: kinda fun to read news and keep up on social media,
Drop Box: good way to share docs,
PS Express: photo shop free version,
Apple Pages: haven’t purchased, but it’s like a word processor.
Wordpress has an iPad app too.
PopBooth, Bamboo Paper, Dragon Dictation are also good ones.
Have fun!
Hmm I got an iPad a few weeks ago…I have the scrabble app lol, Facebook app (obvi), and urbanspoon and Netflix are also good. I am trying to find a good photo editing app but I think I am too cheap seeming how the free And 99cent ones don’t seem to be very good. We also got the cable to hook the iPad up to the tv via hdmi. It works pretty good most of the time!
My resolutionS for 2012: To be more generous…as in, giving my time and/or money. My second resoultion is to be more healthy (and not just when I feel fat!!!) I did Weight Watchers last January and lost 26 pounds and I noticed the difference right away with the food I was eating. So I’m going to eat healthier and do more exercise. My third resolution is to finish school in no more than 2 years–I just started a new program at school (court reporting) and depending how good you are, it’s perfectly achievable to be done within a year and a half. So wish me luck–as I’ll probably be needing it and won’t have a life outside school and work anymore!
I vote Fondue on NYE.
Lee got a remote control helicopter too!
I love FlipBoard and also the game 7 Words. Unstuck is fun, oh and all of these are free! As for NYE, maybe you should recreate your favorite blog meals/snacks/sweets from 2011?
Every time I go bowling, I vow to never go bowling again. I always start off horribly and then get better the more I have to drink. But by the end I’m throwing my ball down the wrong lane and high-fiving everyone…in the entire building. It’s quite a scene.
Enjoy the ipad! My son and dh really have fun with angry birds. Goals.. back off from sugar- this is a really big one for me, since I need sugar after every meal.
If you’re looking to get rid of cookies (or just want to cook for someone), I can either send you my address or show up at your front door by tomorrow at noon. Your choice. lol
Fruit ninja is pretty awesome…
a 44? that’s awesome!
Thanks for the head’s up on cookies at your place – I won’t be coming – I overindulged for SURE! lol
Congratulations! You are more fantastic than I am at bowling (which is why I gave it up), but I suggest you try Wii Bowling! I can kick some serious heinie with Wii Bowling… like in the high 100’s or greater!
My hubby has a Christmas helicopter which he loves… also broken
Hubby has an iPad. Before apps, I strongly suggest a protective case (like a RooCase) to carry it in so you avoid a %&#$**!%!! meltdown of epic proportions when its slippery self slips from your grasp and the glass breaks and ruins your day. And everyone else’s day. Don’t ask how I know this to be the gospel truth, just go with me on this one. Then load up on apps to your little heart’s content!
If it makes you feel better, I didn’t get a maid either (and my hubby cleans the bathrooms too)… so I’m not too disappointed on that one. :)
Nothing is more beautiful than a golden… yours is gorgeous. I love that photo… reminds me of our golden (who was a Christmas puppy many years ago)!
Happy early New Year to you… I won’t be up late enough to ring it in either. Gave that up not too long after bowling~
1. DUDE. me too. i mean, i’m a pro at wii bowling but oh god, real bowling makes me want to cry.
2. i see those everywhere. i want one. not really, but maybe my dad will enjoy one?
3. you’re a great person.
4. ANGRY BIRDS. words with friends. cut the rope. TEMPLE RUN wait is that even on ipads? i dunno. fruit ninja. and stuff like that. yeah i have no life really.
5. i don’t know what to say here.
6. hehe.. beef stick..
7. i want to know exactly what you ate all those seven days. because reading about what you eat makes me happy. that sounds weird.
8. ship me a little sampler that includes one of everything ok? cool.
9. make LOBSTER MAC. because i am.
10. i’m gonna save that picture and just stare at it whenever i need a pick me up.
11. make more food :D
I think it is called harbor master? It is a super fun mindless game :)
I also recommend a good case. If you have a smart cover and are content with that, I recommend an envelope of some sort to add in transporting it around. I got my husband one from Tumbuk2 for his birthday and he LOVES it. I have a DodoCase for mine and I adore it! It looks and feels like a book. So sturdy! My one complaint is that it doesn’t work with the magnets on the iPad2 so no auto-on/off but I like it so much that I don’t really care.
Apps? Card Shark is fun for killing time. Cut the Rope is cute and gets challenging in later levels. Plants vs. Zombies is always entertaining. I picked up Monopoly and Life when they were on sale and have fun with those. A lot of others I use often were already mentioned. Oh — if your bank has an app, it’s worth picking up.
I’m not entirely sure of my goals for next year, yet. I start school (been 15 years!) in January and I just want to get through that without feeling overwhelmed.
Do scallops or crab cakes for NYE! And if you make it till 1137, you’ve got me beat by an hour. Good job.
My goal’s to find a new job…already have a few interviews scheduled!
I’ll be 36 (a really, really hot 36…I keep telling myself this so it will one day be true), so I am thinking of doing 36 things… making 36 resolutions of sorts… like donating 36 hours to charity. Writing 36 letters, etc…
I’ve decided that, as a people, we should all get together and assign months to Christmas goodies. A-C last names take January, D-F take February, etc. That way we can spread out the Christmas cheer (and sweets) throughout the year without feeling pressured to consume copious amounts of sugar in the space of two weeks at the end of December. Individual modifications can be made based on relations/heritage (i.e.: my family’s Dutch, and thus we have lots of friends with last names beginning with Van, which brings out the inherent flaw in this system). Who’s with me?
Last time I went bowling I scored a 24. I have not decided what all my goals are for 2012, but one is definitely to learn how to knit (maybe I should work on improving my bowling skills as well :)
I am also learning to knit/crochet… I say, give up the bowling totally and go for knitting. Learn from a friend or take classes. You will build a yarn stash in no time and WAAAY more fun than bowling! There are wonderful fiber festivals where you can meet the sheep, alpacas, rabbits and goats that create the fibers, the people who spin the fibers, dye the wool… and shopping and raffle items.
Go for knitting!
Your dog is absolutely beautiful!!! My brother just got the ipad 2 and he’s obsessed. I’m not sure which apps to download though!
Woo, I also got an iPad from my hubby and can’t wait to get started!
Make Osso Bucco! We made it for Christmas dinner with risotto, and it was so good it pissed me off. Yes, that good. Slap your mama good.
Enjoy the iPad! I don’t know of any good apps, since I don’t have one! :( New Years goals, to save money for Hawaii and not use my credit cards, ha ha thats a hard one! Bella is so cute! I would want to eat her face too!
Why don’t any of my friends bowl like you. Our averages are pretty much exactly the same and they all get 100+ and try to give me advice while I yell obscenities at them :)
So I found out that there is an Apple app for the textbook that they use at the Culinary Academy. Word is they are going to make there incoming class next year get it instead of an actual book. $50, but I think I might just buy it if I can use it with iTunes. (I don’t do Apple devices.)
Grocery IQ app = love it.
Although I have to sync it to my sons iPod since I a) don’t like to carry my iPad to Trader Joes and b) don’t have an iPhone. Apparently iPads and droids don’t like to share grocery lists.
Will fix b) upon next contract renewal!
I think I may have found your belated Christmas present. :) http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/cubegoodies/eb99/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+thinkgeek%2Fwhatsnew+%28ThinkGeek+%3A%3A+What%27s+New%29&utm_content=Google+Reader
hahaa i love you. And I love that Mr how sweet is cleaning the bathroom #winning :)
for new years you should make a delicious HOT dip! Im thinking something obviously with cheese…warm goatcheese, pesto and roasted tomato dip (my mom makes this sometimes she layers first the tomatoes, then the pesto then the cheese on top and warms it up! MMMM)
Have you purchased an ice cream maker yet? If not, you should, and making ice cream should be your New Year’s resolution because I would just DIE to see your ice cream creations! ;)
Last year, I had a five course bacon fest with the man. It was glorious, and is a sure fire way to send 2011 away with a bang!
Depending on how many blogs you read, I can’t recommend ‘Reeder’ enough. Happy new year to you and thanks for giving this Aussie so much joy (and so many laughs) with your blog :)
I’d gladly take some cookies off your hands!
Just got home from being gone for a month, no grocery stores open and we have some rotting apples in the drawer. Cookies sound perfect :)
Congrats on the ipad!!
not sure about apps for the iPad, but we bought our boys an iCade (from Think Geek), and it is awesome (awesome, that is, if you like playing retro Atari games – I live in the past, for sure!!). You must check it out. http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/retro-gaming/e762/ – The only problem is that they use my hubby’s iPad, so he gets a tiny bit cranky at times :)
I have no words of wisdom for you about your New Year’s Eve yumminess or you Ipad but I do want to thank you for brightening my day this morning! Thank you!!! Hope you have a wonderful day!
I am so getting my boyfriend a remote control helicopter for his birthday! He will love it… and so will the cats. Thanks for the idea!!!
I love your recipes, your comments(they make me laugh…great wit)…my goals: Learn how to handle a dog for conformation showing, loose 10 lbs(or at least firm up the jiggly parts), and finish painting the inside of my house. Happy New Year to all, I stayed up late last night watching the Kennedy Center Honors, didn’t get to bed til almost midnight…so that’s my one stay up late night(not 95 but closing in on 61). Not allowed to sleep in because of the Cockatoo, so not many late nights. Let us know how you like your iPad 2.
Oh my last Bowling score was 28…so maybe we should start a league :-)
I feel your sadness at not getting a maid in your stocking. Every year I ask for a cowboy and a hippopotamus and the big guy never delivers!
My goals for 2012 include running that 10k I couldn’t run last year due to injury and lose the last 30lbs I want to lose. I managed to lose 40 this year all while still enjoying bacon :)
Happy New Year, Jess! I’m baking Brie, drinking wine and watching Holiday movies this year. I just don’t feel like going out. I am old now, I should embrace it!
