Tuesday Things.
1. Last Tuesday I spent the day with Ashley, and she introduced me to Jeni’s ice cream. Ice cream has never been my go-to treat, but now? I’m totally screwed. This stuff was so incredible that the next day I drove 45 minutes out of my way during rush hour to pick some up. I can’t even take it.
2. Oh… and I bought the cookbook and have made three ice creams since. See? Screwed. I even made a cupcake inspired by my ice cream choice. More on that lata.
3. While I was visiting, Ashley made me a fabulous lunch of a baked sweet potato topped with roasted portobellos, the gooeyest swiss cheese and an egg. I’ve eaten this four times since. That is HUGE.
4. On my adventurous ice cream trek, I found some of the new Ben & Jerry’s frozen Greek yogurt. I brought it home so my husband could have an after-dinner treat because he really, really – and I mean REALLY – loves all things ice cream. While I cleaned up the kitchen he found the pint in the freezer then proceeded to EAT THE ENTIRE THING while sitting on the couch.
5. Because I’m predictable, a complete cliche and an open book, you can imagine that this is the most beautiful cake I’ve ever laid eyes on. I.love.sprinkles. I’m also FREAKING out over this black and white angel food cake. Takes it to the next level.
6. Something we did this weekend: On Saturday we went to peace, love and little donuts where I inhaled some of the most delicious donuts I’ve ever tasted. Since they are bite size… you get to eat more. My mind is quite rational.
7. After that, Mr. How Sweet ate a steak and cheese sub, half of a pepperoni roll and an entire order of general tso’s chicken all within 1.5 hours. I am not even joking.
8. Will this man’s metabolism ever slow down? That’s a serious question by the way.
9. Speaking of donuts, I made these peanut butter cup donuts on Friday for a little post-lobster mac dessert. Five of us ate 18 donuts by 11PM. A few days ago I wasn’t even INTO donuts. I can say with certainty that I’ve turned a corner.
10. Another thing we did this weekend: dyed eggs. This is one of my favorite things to do. So nostalgic. So bright! So vinegary. I love vinegar. It’s an odd quality to possess.
11. As horrified as I am to admit this, I am dying to go see American Reunion. Well, I’m not really horrified at all. Someone come with me?
12. About an hour ago my husband walked in the door with a bag stuffed to the brim from Anthropologie. Heeeee’s a keeper. Most of the time.
13. As you can tell, we ate enough this past weekend to feed a small country. And no I don’t have beer bbq chicken in the crockpot right now, why do you ask?

your life is so delicious, ngl.
Aw what a good hubby! My boy’s metabolism shocks me as well. And I want to see American Reunion too!
Love your blog. You never fail to make me smile and laugh :)
I think my husband would think Anthropologie was a perfume if I asked him. That is awesome.
Your week sounds amazing. I love these posts :)
jeni’s is the best!!!! i wrote about it too.

Uh, I SO want to see American Reunion too. But I’m pretty sure you’re not at all surprised by that.
hahaha, I thought I ate too many sweets this weekend! Blerg. Hopefully your hubby’s metabolism won;t catch up to him. Anthropologie….sigh…I simply son’t go into that store anymore. One..can’t afford more than one thing and two…we have no space to stock up random items. Maybe in our next place….(crossing fingers)
tuesday things have easily become my favorite!! you brighten my day girl!!
1- I keep forgetting that I randomly stumbled upon this site, only to find you were a fellow Pittsurgher…love peace love little donuts!
2-I was in Pittsburgh visiting my family and was supposed to go to the strip on Saturday, but did not :(
I love your things always but this one was extra good. Is that recipe book worth the $35? I am thinking of buying it. I have had those donuts of Ashley’s on my list forever now. And Marshall’s metabolism is right there with Mr. How Sweet’s.. damn them.
I actually got it online from barnes and noble… I think it was $14! But yes… it is amazing and I’d probably pay $35 for it.
I’ve been dying to try Jeni’s from what I’ve seen around the blog world. Some of the flavors sound just amazing. Can’t wait to see the ice-cream-inspired cupcake :)
I’ve also been dying to try the Ben & Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurt…if your husband’s take on it is any indication of how good it is, then I’m getting one as soon as humanly possible!
I would LOVE to go see American Reunion with you! BUT, you have to bring donuts. :)
Deal.
PS I am in awe of your husband even knowing what Anthropologie is. Jealous.
American Reunion was hilarious – like, hilarious to the point where my stomach hurt after I left the theater. See. It.
YES!!!
Wait just a second…is that a donut covered in BACON that I spy?!
Also, I love Jeni’s and I’m so glad you got a chance to try it! (It’s local/native to my current city, Columbus, Ohio.) What flavor did you try?
Ahhhhh you were in Cleveland!!!!!! I love it!!!
Nevermind!!! Jenis and peace love and little donuts threw me off!!! Didn’t know you guys had one in Pittsburg!
No you are correct – I was in Cleveland visiting Ashley and that’s where we got Jeni’s… but the donuts were in Pittsburgh.
Explain to me more about this husband with the anthropologie…Does not compute…Too…Awesome.
I love Jeni’s!! it’s absolutely the best!
Peace love and little donuts is the BEST! I love those things!
Those eggs are so beautiful!!
I’ve heard of Jeni’s- have yet to try it!!
Ohmygosh come make meeee ice cream!! I’ve been craving it around the clock lately. I blame the slightly warmer temperatures. But really – I want it when it’s snowing outside, so there’s no excuse.
OMG! Jeni’s is the best. I went to graduate school in Columbus and was spoiled by it. When I moved to Kalamazoo, there was a whole in my heart… but lo and behold, Food Dance (a great local eatery) started selling it in there market! This girl is in heaven!

Um, so I ran past that Donut place Saturday on about mile 9 and inhaled it’s sweet, sweet smells. I am so jealous! Next time I need to stop and eat one (preferably the bacon one). That’s fuel for exercise, right?!
I need more details about the sweet potato/mushroom/cheese/egg deliciousness! It looks amazing!
She just threw it together but she baked the sweet potato, cut it open, put the mushrooms on top, roasted them for maybe 10 minutes or so, put the cheese on a broiled til melty then added an egg on top!
How did you get your eggs do look so vibrant?? Mine were sort of pale pastel-ish. Not sure what I did wrong… Those donuts look AH-mazing btw
My mom is the queen of egg dying… but we do it for HOURS. She is adamant that we let the eggs sit in the dye for sometimes an hour or more. It’s a long process but it does make for some gorgeous eggs.
Oh damn you, now I want icecream and its only 7am.
i love you, this blog and anthro in that order. givemedonutsnow.
Oh man, you are making me miss Ashley! I watched an hour-long MTV special on American Reunion this weekend. That’s just embarrassing.
I have a secret love of vinegar, this kids don’t leave their eggs in long enough, which I hate and I am dying to see American Reunion as well!!
Haven’t had dinner yet and I was all prepped for a healthy meal and now I want to dive into that ice cream… looks amazing.
ummm. i had a dream about bite sized donuts the other day. they looked just like yours! not those little powdered sugar ones you can buy at the gas station. weird!! i want a bacon donut!
that sweet potato looks amazing!
I love your “tuesday things’ posts so much!
And your eggs are so colorful. I get ADD when dying eggs and never let them sit long enough. maybe next year:)
I can’t wait to hear what was in that precious little bag from Anthropology, do share! :)
Tonight I’m test driving a new recipe (my own) for jalapeño popper Mac & cheese. Im super excited!!
OMG I’m so glad you admitted that you want to see American Reunion. ME TOO!! :) I’ll go with you…now the matter of deciding to watch it here in Whistler or where ever the heck it is that you live…
I cannot wait to see American Reunion! Let me know what you think. I have loved all those movies and laughed til I cried. So I expect nothing less.
That husband of yours, what a trip! Any man is a keeper that brings home a bag full of anthropologie goodies! Oh, I am not an ice cream as a snack person, I am more of an ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner person, especially if its frozen yogurt, or anything having to do with a vanilla bean or peanut butter, or milk chocolate ice cream something, I am all in. Donuts have been my new friend lately, my donut pan has been getting some serious oven time, no joke.
I work at a Jeni’s in Columbus, OH! I read your blog all the time and was wondering when you were going to discover its amazingness! There used to be a flavor with bacon!
I am so jealous. I want to work there!
I need some of those bacon donuts, stat. And my husband’s metabolism is sickening, as well. That boy is going to eat me out of house and home!
This past Saturday I woke up after Cheesy wine night (cheese, wine…a lot of cheese and wine) and craved bacon. I ate a ton of it for breakfast followed by a BLT at lunch. This is SO not in a creepy way but it made me think of you. My non-blogger friends did not get it. Le sigh.
OH MY GOD THE BACON DONUT. I am currently in the midst of an overwhelming donut obsession and made my family drive 40 minutes out of the way this weekend to get some baaangin donuts. Worth.
Additionally, thought you might want to see my ode to sprinkles, since I feel exactly the same way. Sprinkles are life: http://melssweetlife.wordpress.com/2012/02/06/rainbow-sprinkle-cake/
I so want to see American Reunion too, but I doubt The Hubby will feel that is a good use of our rare opportunities to get a babysitter. Guess I’ll wait till it is on DVD.
I love this tuesday-things! Jenis is my weakness. what a strength I have in that weakness…the pineapple parfait is my new love…I love that I can pick up a few of her flavors right accross the street in Krogers’ freezer though I still have to get my dose of the adorable shop sometimes. A couple actually got married in Jeni’s (Columbus downtown) a couple months ago(awesome!)…
Love this post since I live in Columbus (within walking distance of two Jeni’s locations), and I got married in Pittsburgh 6 months ago…Peace, Love, and Little Donuts had a hot donut cart at our reception and served fresh donuts instead of wedding cake. It was a huge hit!!!
I am a Pittsburgher too, who has relocated to Cleveland and yes, Jeni’s is fantastic!! We live maybe 30 minutes away from the one in Chagrin Falls, it is a magical place and I love taking visitors there. Pittsburgh has great restaurants, but Cleveland has a pretty great food scene, too. Strange thing, though… here on Cleveland’s east side, I have real trouble finding Chinese Buffets. That’s the only thing that’s missing!
Those eggs are gorgeous and that bacon donut is SO YOU! Glad you were able to partake in a nice light little snack :)
I have the babycakes cookbook and needless to say, I’ve made far too many donuts and cake pops and have about 173 recipes left to try! haha!
try living in columbus. we have like 4 jeni’s locations and EVERY time i go downtown i feel like i have to get some. have you tried brown butter almond brittle?! i dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
1) Is that a maple bacon donut? I’ve heard of those miraculous treats but never tried one.
2) I love vinegar too. Especially the smell! I thought I was just weird.
3) GO SEE AMERICAN REUNION. It was amazing, and if you go at 2:00 on a weekday like I did you can avoid the annoying teenager crowd. (I sound old…)
Vinegar lovers unite! That is the ONLY reason I go to Long John Silvers…you get to take an entire bottle of vinegar to your table. Gotta love that!
something about the american pies bothered me, but i was dragged into american renunion and it was actually pretty funny! i love vinegar, too. especially on salty boardwalk fries.. mmm
Ohhhhh vinegar! It’s the reason we have at least 5 different mustards in our refrigerator!
