1. I was assigned this chocolate fudge pudding mess above, also known as FREAKING HEAVEN, for a freelance project and from the looks of things, you can imagine how that turned out. I wanted to die. And judging by the amount I ate, I probably should have.

2. Last night I was searing some marinated chicken when my husband walked into the kitchen and literally SCREAMED “why are you doing that over high heat?! You’re ruining it!! I hate when my chicken is dry!!” Um, really? Like he cooks dinner all the time or something.

3. I formed the glare from hell on my face then asked when the last time was that I served him dry chicken.

4. The chicken was very, very excellent. I win. Again! I also may be dramatic. But not.

5. Pittsburgh people! I’m judging a dessert bake-off on April 25th at Bloomfield Bridge Tavern that benefits Best Buddies Pa. You should totally enter (see here or contact me for details) or at least come and eat dessert with me.

6. I can’t even get over these parmesan truffle tater tots. Seriously? Is this real life?

7. Speaking of truffle stuff, my mom (who isn’t that… “into”… food) ordered truffle fries for the first time two weeks ago. Upon asking her how they were, she claimed to be incredibly disappointed because she said they tasted WEIRD and not like normal french fries. “Like, uh… truffle?” I asked. She hated it. Additionally, I might be adopted.

8. You know how I hate coffee? Well, sometimes I don’t when it’s iced. But then I do. But then I add a third of a cup of chocolate syrup and I don’t. But then I do again because it’s just so gross and dirty-water like. But then I don’t because I think it tastes like coffee ice cream. But then I do because it never does. What I’m getting at is that I STILL keep buying iced coffee and hating it. I will never be cool. I just can’t accept it.

9. The idea of the blueberry bacon breakfast cake today came from my friend Kelly, who ate a blueberry bacon cupcake and said it was “really good.” This is huge, because Kelly is one of those people that only likes her food in it’s “normal” state and also does not allow the foods on her plate to touch. Can we say those flavors are a winner? I’m making a blueberry bacon grilled cheese tonight.

10. Bella… I have no words. Just stop. But don’t. Ever.

I looove when the BF tells me how to cook then freaks out while making something like pancakes (true story) because the batter doesn’t look right.

You can’t just post the freaking pudding tease and not tell us how to shove some in our faces immediately.

    Not cool, sister. Not cool.

I want to squish Bella’s nose to mine and make inappropriate baby talk. For an hour. She is darling. :)

    Melissa — April 17, 2012 @ 4:32 pm

I want that dessert. It looks like the doneness of my perfect pan of brownies–which must be eaten straight from the pan with a spoon, if you really must know.

And I want those tater tots. But with the sweet potato tots. I think I just whimpered.

My Mom has made that pudding cake for years. We call it a Hot Fudge Pudding Cake. It’s total comfort food for my family.

    Margo — April 17, 2012 @ 4:37 pm

Haha! My husband does the same thing to me when I cook, and my reaction is pretty much the same as yours. I’m pretty sure you’re a better cook than me, but then again my hubs isn’t a cool lol. I’m guessing Mr. Sweet isn’t a cook either? :)

hahahah I’m a weirdo that doesn’t like my food to touch unless they’re foods that are “allowed” to. I almost bought those compartmentalized plates for myself. Yet another reason why I know I will love that breakfast cake. PS* love your Bella :)

    3. i also love to cook and bake, have crazy thoughts/ideas that make my husband tell how weird i am almost daily AND we have the same name… i’m pretty sure we’re supposed to be friends ;)

love the blog! thanks for the great recipes and smiles!

I love the comment about your husband. My guy tends to do the same thing. Once I start serving him bad food then he can comment/complain, until then..shut it. :)

Sadly…I serve dry chicken all the time. My poor husband. Salmonella freaks me out though (and I don’t really mind dry chicken…reminds me of the food my grandma made me, ha) so I cook the hell out of the chicken and the boy hates it!

I’m so glad Bella has a purpley-green dot on her tongue, too! My Golden developed that around age 3, and we’re told it’s completely normal but I haven’t seen that many Goldens with it!

    • Jessica — April 17th, 2012 @ 5:03 pm

This is our family’s third golden in a row who got that dot on her tongue! So weird, we’ve never known why.

    Stephanie — April 17, 2012 @ 5:03 pm

I love that your dog smiles for pictures, so does mine.
I hate coffee to but keep trying it in the hopes that one day I will actually develop a taste for it (not happening)
My husband criticized once, he cooked for himself the rest of the week and I got a new pair of shoes :)

    • Jessica — April 17th, 2012 @ 5:04 pm

Oooh I like how you run things.

    • Jesss — April 17th, 2012 @ 6:50 pm

that chocolate mess looks so good!

and you’re a judge! wow…Padma and the gang on Top Chef better watch out. I can seriously see you taking over :)

I like the bit about foods in their normal state. I get all kinds of..comments…about pairing certain foods. Glad you are rockin’ the bacon/blueberry flag proudly.

    Kristen @ notsodomesticated — April 17, 2012 @ 5:07 pm

Hahaha the thing about your husband made me laugh because my husband sometimes does the same thing. He likes to think he knows more than he does, bless his heart … which is why I try to keep him OUT of the kitchen when I’m cooking! :)

    Karen T. — April 17, 2012 @ 5:08 pm

I think I need to come up with a dessert bake-off thingy in Dallas so you can come judge it!! And i’ll even do it in the fall so you won’t die of heat stroke. And I’ll do it by a pool because even in the fall it’s still in the 80’s here. And I’ll make sure there’s plenty of drinky drinks to enjoy!!!!

Yum, that dessert looks awesome.. my MIL makes a self saucing chocolate dessert, looks just like that.. essentially everything goes in the pan at once and comes out like gooey brownies with chocolate pudding all underneath. Soooo good :)

    Kim — April 17, 2012 @ 6:44 pm

I too am not an aficianado of coffee, and yet I have been lured by wonderful photos of iced coffees to try them time and time again. Sadly, the taste never equals the aesthetic appeal. However, I recently stumbled across a wonderful, relatively low-calorie treat that you may enjoy:

It’s not going to win a beauty contest, but I find it yummy and refreshing.
