Tuesday Things.
1. I made a million batches of Amanda’s brownies last week. #rollmehome
2. We all need to love life this much. Don’t.ever.stop.
3. The last few nights I’ve had like, the worst sleeps EVER. We have a constant battle because I like to be freezing (all the time) while my husband likes to be hot (all the time). It’s been warm at night and he refuses to leave the ceiling fan on (which I, of course, turn on after he falls sleep) even though I watch him toss and turn all night long because he gets too hot (throwing the covers off, laying across the bed). Sometimes I feel like there is a toddler sleeping next to me.
4. I’ve also taken to phone-recording his snoring in the middle of the night, because I like him to listen to what it’s like to sleep next to what sounds like a hairy old grandpa. I don’t know where the hairy part comes in but thank goodness I’m not dealing with that (yet).
5. Someone’s been eating cookie butter every night straight from the jar like it’s peanut butter, but the problem is that IT IS NOT PEANUT BUTTER. I wonder if this will ever stop.
6. I don’t care what dayo de mayo it is, I am dying for a mango jalapeno margarita and some cilantro limeade. Ugh. I can’t even stand it.
7. Speaking of margaritas I made the dumbest move a few weeks ago and grabbed some of that Skinnygirl margarita stuff in the liquor store because, well… I’m a marketer’s dream and can’t say no. It may have been the foulest thing I’ve ever tasted. Actually, I think it tasted like disgusting watered down garbage. Never ever again. Ever.
8. Since I’ve talked about it the last 3 weeks, I must scream from the rooftops that I just think Girls keeps getting better and better. But this is coming from a 15-year HBO worshipper.
9. Should I be using some sort of serum crap on my face at night in my late twenties? I feel like I should, and I feel like I need to be much more of an adult and do things like that which are very adult-like. Someone halllllp me. What should I use? Because I’m not going to be an adult in any other way. I’m looking at you laundry and dishes.
10. These shoes keep falling into my shopping cart. Definite problem.

You know what’s even worse than Skinnygirl margarita? Skinnygirl Pina Colada. SOOO GROSS! totally disappointed!
No offense, but it’s “skinnier” so obviously it wont taste like the real thing. I like it alot.
Obviously it wouldn’t taste like the real thing…duh. I guess if you love the taste of bad chemicals then there you go! :)
Totes. Love the chemicals, yum :)
Ditto on the SkinnyGirl junk. Yuck!
Don;t show me that! I’ve sworn off sugar for 30 days!!! And this reminds me that I NEED to check out girls.
I have too! Interesting to find other “off sugar” people. I’m secretly trying for 2 months, but I haven’t told my body that yet for fear it will freak out. I think after I make it through this month, I will gently suggest that it take off another month. LOL
Let me know if you find whatever sort of serum crap we are supposed to be putting on our face at night in our late twenties. I have been thinking that too.
I’ll vouch for the Clinique “Even Better” serum — a little pricey, but a bottle lasts for a long time, and it helps even out your skin (and fade any acne scars, etc). I thought I’d start using it before I really needed it (same age range) but as I could could see a difference after a couple of weeks, I guess I needed it!
Serum…it can be very important. But most important, please wear day lotion that has SPF. Loreal actually has a lovely serum that is 50+spf. It’s very light and silky on the skin.
But I highly recommend Derma-E serum. I use it every night before bed. Use a serum without parabans.
I thought the same thing too about the serum (just turned 28!!!). Now I cannot live without Lancome Visionairre. It is magic and I feel like such a grown up using it! Go get samples at Sephora or department stores before make a purchase because it is a tad bit expensive but the way your face feels will justify the cost!
I over indulged in margaritas this weekend. I pretty much bathed my liver in tequila…then I bathed my dinner in it while simultaneously drinking frozen margaritas on Sunday. In hindsight it was probably unwise to be working with sharp knifes, a hot stove and a Blendtec under the influence. Oh well. Definitely filing the mango jalapeno idea away, reminds me a bit of the margarita on the cocktail list at Eleven in the Strip.
I concur with everyone on the serum in your 20’s advice though I don’t necessarily think you need to spend a boat load on a serum and I think a skincare regimen will be more beneficial than just a serum alone. I used to use L’Oreal serum because in my 20’s that was all I could afford. Now that I’m nearly 32 I’ve moved up to better products. I recommend the Ole Hendricksen line, its reasonably priced with quality ingredients (the vitamin C serum in the orange bottle is the one I used last year) and I like their sheer moisturizer for day particularly moving into the summer (I add Philosophy’s vitamin C booster powder to it) and their gel with alpha hydroxy (its in a green labeled jar) for night though some people find alpha hydroxy to be irritating. Now I use AmorePacific’s serum (morning only) in conjunction with Dr. Brandt’s Glow products (which have Retinol) and the Ole Hendriksen sheer transformation with the philosophy booster and an eye cream. A quality eye cream is also really important, I really like L’occitane’s Immortelle the most of all the ones I’ve tried.
I’m sort of a skincare junkie. I’m also in my 20’s, but I love taking care of my skin. It all started when I discovered Beautypedia (www.beautypedia.com). It’s a website where skincare and makeup products are tested and reviewed based on their effectiveness and whether or not they actually do what they claim to do. I found out that some expensive skincare products are overpriced and don’t help your skin, and some cheaper drugstore products are great for your skin. The website also has a list of best products on the market (including serums), with reviews explaining why they’re effective. You should check it out!
Your Tuesday Things are ALWAYS entertaining! I love to read them! I actually add a splash of Orange juice to Skinnygirl margarita to cut the tartness! Haven’t tried the other flavors yet…but I hope they are good! Bethany’s show cracks me up! Speaking of serum… Check out my web site! I have the perfect regimen for you! I am a beauty consultant for Rodan + Fields Dermatologists, (the creators of ProActiv) and they now have a terrific Anti-aging line! I love the products… And they are clinically proven with a 60 day money back guarantee! You won’t get that at any store! Call me! :) I am also on a culinary team at Williams Sonoma and love teaching cooking classes. Food is fun!
I didn’t really know what to think about Girls at first….but I keep DVR-ing AND watching it! It has really grown on me! I am also creeping nearer and nearer to 30 by the month and just ordered a brightening peel from Philosophy. Crossing my fingers that I end up…well…brighter! =)
I love Tuesday Things so much. I too have recorded my husband snoring in the middle of the night- I just can’t help myself. And then I play it back on extra-loud volume.
I am an Independent sales consultant for Mary Kay. It is recommended every women over the age of 21 has a skin care regiment. Mary Kay offers a set called the Time Wise kit, also known as the Miracle set, because it works miracles. Its a little pricey but the set last your 3 months so its really close to a $1 a day! There is a wash and a moisturizer you use twice a day then a morning serum (with SPF in it) And a night serum (loaded with vitamins and collagen to repair skin) Here’s a link to my website if you wanted to look more into it http://www.MaryKay.com/Brandilburns Oh and I use to work with one of your cousins from GA that’s who turned me onto your blog! Goodluck!
I’m so sad to hear about the Skinnygirl margaritas. I’ve never tried them but always wanted to. :( But I’m super happy to see that smiling baby face – so so so cute! :)
I am 36 and my skin is wrinkle city. :( I look back at pictures of me in my 20’s and wish that I had savored my youthful skin. It seems crazy to me that there is such a short time span where the skin is plum and glowing, etc.. now it is dry and gross. I have come close to buying Cindy Crawford’s skin care line. The commentors have a lot to say about skin care products, and now I am going to do my research and see if there is any repairing this face. :/
I was also sucked int by Cindy’s line but wasn’t very happy with the results.
Olay Regenerist, start using it now!! I started in my early 20’s, in my mid 30’s now, but you always want to start these things BEFORE you start seeing the signs of aging. It’s about $20, a little goes a long way and worth every penny.
I use the Estee Lauder CP serum and have loved the results. Also I’m in my late twenties. I think prevention is the best medicine!
I do have to admit though, that I recently bought the new serum from the Costco line….Borghese I think, and it is great. It is also like a fourth of the price of the EL stuff.
1. I think our husbands are the same people. It’s scary how much yours sounds like mine.
2. I couldn’t agree with you more about that Skinnygirl shiz. It is dis.gust.ing.
3. If cookie butter is anything like Biscoff spread then I’m right there with you. I keep a spoon in my cleavage so I scoop some right out the jar every time I walk by the pantry. Not really, but it’s a brilliant idea ;)
YES to Girls! After the first couple eps I was apprehensive, but every episode so far has been better than the last. I hope it continues to improve – the show has so much potential and is so hysterically written….I just need it to not be ‘fake feminist’….if we’re going to have a show for women I want it to be the real thing! And thanks for posing the face serum Q. It’s one that’s been on my mind too, but I never know what to use (and I’m sooo pooorsssssss) but now I can glean different ideas from your comments.
PS. Chocolate.
First of all, stop it, I’m trying to give up sugar, too.
Secondly, use olive oil on your face, especially under your eyes, and add a tiny bit of coconut oil over that in the winter on your dry areas. I’ve been doing that for the past 2-3 years, and at 49 yrs old, my skin has never been better, no breakouts and no wrinkles. Buy organic oils and you’ll be golden :) Love you, really…
Thanks Laina – I love that I idea and I like to go natural whenever possible. How do you go about putting olive oil on your face? I feel like I would be an oily mess – coconut oil seems easier since it’s thick. Let me know what your process is! Thanks!!
Hi Katherine, Just use a tiny drop at a time and smooth it on. I keep it in a small glass liquid soap dispenser near my bathroom sink. Just be sure to get it on right out of the shower, when your face it still damp, or else spritz your face with plain water first. It really feels lovely and gives you a dewy, not greasy, complexion. Coconut oil just seems too heavy in the summer in humid weather. It would be fine in an arid location, though.
I feel like you need to try the Cilantro Pineapple Margarita at El Gato Negro in New Orleans, in the French Quarter. It’s ridiculous — and I hate cilantro!

A good way to try out different serums (coming from a girl in mid-twenties trying to figure out what to put on her face) is to sign up for Birchbox. You pay $10 per month and you get a box of samples every month, which usually include some sort of anti-aging face product. It’s a non-committal way to see which ones you like/don’t like and what might actually make a difference. Plus, getting a box of beauty samples in the mail once a month is freaking awesome.
Sooooo loving reading your bogs!!! =) Helps me drift away from life as I know it!
Thank you
I love to hear that I’m not the only one that has whipped out a phone recorder in the middle of the night to record the agonizing sound of one snoring!!! :) I love playing it back and then, only to be told that it wasn’t him snoring, that it was me. I should use a hand held camcorder next time. Too funny!! :D
Try the Clinique Overnight Turnaround! I love it. I am only 24 so I didn’t want to do anything with anti-aging… Its awesome. My skin is so much better!
Being organic is all the rage these days, so it is great to hear about a new web store that is being set up just to provide people with the ability to buy skin products. It will be opening soon so why not go along and see for yourself!
