Tuesday Things.
1. I live less than 30 seconds from a Dairy Queen and with the weather hitting the 90s consistently, it takes all my effort to not get a sprinkle-covered cone every single day. Clearly I’m failing.
2. OMG. No… OMG. My face is freaking out over these homemade cheesesteaks. They are happening.
3. On Sunday night we had pulled pork tacos, and I’m pretty sure the only thing that would have made them better are these beer tortillas. Is this even serious?
4. I’m in California… my husband is in Alabama… and at this rate he is just enjoying not wearing a breathe right strip and I’m enjoying hogging AN ENTIRE BED to myself. I’m a horrible married person and just want to sleep in my own bed every night. While I blast the air conditioning on my face.
5. Do you think I still have a dazzleglass obsession? I don’t. Nevermind.
6. Since we can’t talk about Girls anymore (although there is probably enough craptastic info in those episodes that I could easily discuss it for the next 365 days), I must whine how I watched ANOTHER Girls-a-thon on Saturday and heard like, 30 new lines that I somehow missed before. I feel that this qualifies me to watch a few more marathons just to succeed at knowing everything about every single episode.
7. My husband still wants to wretch when he walks in the room and I have it on. He immediately leaves and then pretends to ignore it, only to mutter under his breath the next day that “the writing is terrible!” or “these girls are pathetic!” or “this show is everything wrong with society!” and then “this is not real life!” Um, no. This IS real life. That’s like my dad trying to tell me at age 17 that watching The Real World was not preparing me for the real world because it “was not the real world!” Uh… it was totally the real world.
8. I have no idea if anyone knows just how excited I am for the Olympics. I LOVE LOVE LOVE watching the Olympics. It’s like the best thing in the world and totally hypocritical, laying on the couch consuming alcohol and pizza and then probably ice cream while watching world class athletes sweat their rear off, and skipping workouts on Saturdays to watch the things that are on at weird times and missing morning exercise because you stay up all night watching the random stuff that doesn’t get shown on prime time. I.love.it. It makes me want to do a triathlon or something. Buuuut… that would require running. Barf.
9. This outrageously obnoxious polish has made many frequent appearances this June. I will never be sorry, ever.
10. You know what I’d like to know? Is there anyone in the universe that goes into Target and actually leaves the place with exactly what they intended? Because I left the place with five different black dresses last week. Slap me.
11. What book are you reading rightthisminute? I’m waiting with baited breath for Emily Giffin’s newest book because, well… I live and die for chick lit. And I’m so freaking proud of it. My shoes are also usually pink, so yeahhhh. Total cliche. Hate me if you must. I also am trying to figure out how I can go see Magic Mike… for obvious reasons. Three strikes and I’m out?
12. Know how many times I’ve made that roasted caprese panzanella salad? About 12. Know how many days have passed since I first shared the recipe? Seven. You do the math. (Because I really suck at it.)
13. In very sad news, I think my herbs are done for. Whomp whomp. They just… aren’t growing. And do you even KNOW how much conflicting information is on the internets? Water more, water less, more sun, less sun, new soil, pick the leaves, don’t pick the leaves… OMG my brain. Just like how I wish everything would magically appear without me having to work for it, why can’t my herbs just like… grow? But but but – I do have tomatoes! They are cute. I hope I will eat them.
14. See #’s 7 and 13 for reasons why my generation is horrific.

I’m so sorry about the herbs. :( I’m hit or miss with them too. I have two mint I mean mojito plants that I hope survive although with all of this tropical storm rain, I think they will! Thank you for linking to my cheesesteaks, if you lived next door to me, I would deliver three to you right now!
#10- No. I am convinced you go into Target needing paper towels and you leave with some Bubble Gum flavored Bonne Bell, random dresses, candy, holiday cupcake liners and NO paper towels.
#11- Love, love, love EG. We should do a HSE book club and then it can be the “Girls” of summer. Clearly by we, I mean you. Haha
Side note: Saturday is my first cheat day in over a month. I’ve been scouring the recipe index to see what I NEED to make. Suggestions? Ideas? Cookies?
I loooove Dairy Queen! I would be in so much trouble if I had one that close to my house.
NOT ENOUGH SPRINKLES. Tell them that next time. ;) Sorry for yelling. I’m super excited for the olympics too… I’m just kind of scared what it means for my kids because they copy everything they see. Who will be walking the back of the couch? And uhmmm Magic Mike… yeah. Sigh.
ah im also waiting for emily griffins new book! i cant wait!
Sorry about your herbs. My husband is a Horticulturist for the Smithsonian – let me know if you want him to give you advice.
Oh I love the Olympics too!I remember when you had to wait FOUR years, now some sort of olympics are every two years, which for me is basically swimming or ice skating.
I’m more excited about the Tour de France though. I’m an addict, I can’t help it. I DVR 4-6 hours a day of it for 3 weeks, yeah, my kids eat cereal every meal in July. *sigh*
And I love all the sprinkles on that cone. Yum.
I love the Tour de France too!
Just finished the Fifty Shades trilogy (blushing), despite all the reviews, I did enjoy the story in a whole.
Can’t. Put. Down.
No shame girlfriend! I read it for what it was, and I loved it!
Me too!!
Your writing makes me smile on the worst days…So Thanks :) And I’ve been saying no to ice cream all day. That first pic only makes me want to shout YES!
Nice stuff this week!
I love the Olympics too! I’m hosting my dinner and wine group in July and I’m thinking about an all American menu or British menu in honor of the Olympics. Except I can figure out what to cook. Suggestions? Thoughts?
P.S. I love your blog and also follow you on Pinterest!
I just finished reading something borrowed and something blue- loved them both and can’t wait to read the next one!
I just started reading In One Person – John Irving’s newest. I think it’s going to be a good one.
My herbs are barely hanging on. I think I’ll be right there with you soon enough.
Dairy queen is the best. My favorite is a butterfinger oreo blizzard, which I eat half of on the drive back home. It’s not like I could even begin to convince my husband there was any non-shallow reason for seeing that movie. Though it worked for 21 Jump Street, which I hadn’t laughed so hard in a long time.
I don’t know what kind of herbs you planted, but I have two kinds of basil, lemon balm and oregano and i just leave them in the south morning sun, water them in the evening and ignore them the rest of the time. I wish you luck! (Didn’t you save the little care tabs they come with?) I am envious of your tomatoes. Haven’t gotten to that yet this summer.
Regarding #10 – I wonder the same thing all the time. I also wonder if anyone manages to leave Target without being at LEAST $100 poorer, because I sure can’t.
Umm #11 – me! I LOVE Emily Giffin books and also think it’s fate that a Channing Tatum movie comes out the day after my birthday ;)
Mr. How Sweet sounds so much like Meeker I can hardly stand it. I can’t even count how many times he has exited the TV room uttering “that show is what’s wrong with society” – we need to be neighbors or something.
You’re in Cali? Hope you’re having fun where ever you are!
And I love Dazzleglass…but….I like good ole fashioned Lipglass or Lusterglass better. There’s a shade called Prrr that I couldn’t live without. Can’t recall what “line” it’s in (and too lazy to get up and check..lol)
Uhhh, I hadn’t heard about Emily’s new book! Life = made.
AND I’m a total freak for the Olympics too. Life = made again.
Herbs dying? Life = unmade.
I’m not making any sense.
Dairy Queen has sprinkle cones?!?!?! I think I need one. Now.
I love the Olymics as well. I was totally Dominique Moceanu when I was 12 and I thought Keri Strug was a bad-ass! My dad also tries to tell me to this day that “Real Housewives of New Jersey” isn’t reality, then I secretly catch him on Tuesday nights watching Real Housewives of OC with my mother. Hypocrite.
OMG… I was obsessed with those gymnasts!
i didn’t know DQ would put sprinkles on their ice cream cones?? do they all do this?
i also didn’t know emily giffin had a new book coming out! you are so helpful today. i have read all her others-have you read Jane Green’s books? they are a similar style and i love them all (although i do think the older ones are better and by older i mean circa 2002). and…i have been talking to my husband for the past 5 years about needing twin beds that roll apart when it is time to go to sleep. i need my space and our full size bed is starting to kill me. i have no idea how i survived sleeping in that thing through 2 pregnancies.
Well, you have to ask for the sprinkles. :)
And yes, I love Jane Green!
Pick a date/time for Magic Mike at the AMC lowes at the waterfront and I will meet you there. For some reason my husband does not want to go.
I cannot WAIT for the Olympics!!! One of my girlfriends is going to London with her boyfriend and I am eternally bitter and jealous. Last time around, my roommates and I threw a party and everyone took shots for Michael Phelps when he won.
College is weird.
That first picture made me hungry (even though i’m stuffed). But that roasted tomato caprese panzanella (what a name). Damn I think I’ll be making this more than you did in a week! Haha looks delicious.
Ahahaha – I don’t think I’ve ever ONCE left Target with only the items I intended. Actually sometimes not even one of the items I intended to buy.
Also – your husband watching Girls is like my boyfriend watching all The Real Housewives. Last night I actually said to him that I wasn’t sure what was more amusing…the show itself or his commentary on it. The funniest part is that he knows all their names.
ahhh I can’t wait for Emily Giffin’s new book either!!!
Um, I totally agree with both points in number 11. I love Emily Giffin. I am counting the days until her new book comes out. Have you seen that if you pre-order it you can get a free copy of Darcy’s diary???
http://us.macmillan.com/static/wherewebelong/index.html For real. Also, Magic Mike? Yes, please. I am also trying to figure out how I can go see that without my husband thinking I am a weirdo.
#1 OMG I haven’t had one of those in like forever!!!!! I MUST find a Dairy Queen
#3 BEER TORTILLAS!!!!! sorry for the caps but I’m like ecstatic right now!
#4 I was single for 15 years and while I love love love my dear husband…I find it quite nice to hog the whole bed again when he’s gone!!
#8 The Olympics!!!! I’m with you girl!!! I’ve been known to be watching curling during the winter olympics at like 2 a.m. I think watching the Olympics is the same as exercising because you we like cheer really hard for them so we got our heart rate up, right??
#10 Not possible. There’s a sensor on the door if you leave with only the items you came in for.
They’ll cuff you and make you go back inside until you find at least 2 items you didn’t know you needed.
#11 I’m bookless at the moment but I thought I was the only person who hadn’t read 50 Shades of Grey. I just finished one of Gemma Halliday’s High Heels Mysteries book. I love chick lit too….up next for me is the new Mary Kay Andrews Spring Fever. ahhhh now if I was just at the beach!
Oh and Magic Mike….my husband offered to take me psssft. Seriously??? I’d hate to drool over other men in front of him.
#13 mine too. I just blame living in Texas for all that.
That roasted tomato caprese panzanella is like crack – I mentioned it on my blog TWICE this week because I, too, have made in repeatedly. It’s all I want to eat.
The city I live in does not have a Dairy Queen and I think that is both the worst thing about living here and, I admit with resignation, the best. I can put away dilly bars like you would not believe.
Thank you for sharing!
Mmmmmmmm Magic Mike. That is all. I seriously cannot wait. Hey, maybe sneak in a sprinkle cone?
I would have serious issues resisting Dairy Queen if I lived that close to one! I basically think about ice cream 24/7 right now, since it’s so hot!
Roll Tide.
#9: i wear Atomic lipstick during the day at least once a week…and i work with small children and their parents. i am 100% unapologetic as well, illamasqua makes SICK make up. <3
um, I NEED that nail polish color. I also watched the Girls marathon and noticed/heard AT LEAST 50 things I didn’t the first time around (my husband is also revolted by the show, but not as much as he hates me watching 90210… so maybe that’s a win?). Also, how did I not know about Emily Giffin’s new book???!! Thank You!!
I am reading “Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Friend” and it is HILARIOUS! I highly recommend.
And I am not happy to find out that sprinkle cone is simply from DQ. Dang it, now I have to get one. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be 100 so that seems reason enough.
Boo about the herbs. My basil is dying too. It’s some sort of fungus that has killed it this time. I don’t know about you but that fungus is a total asshole. Why can’t he go bother some other basil plant? I have yet to see the Girls show but I should probably watch it while I’m at work. They have HBO there so I can just watch it on demand. I’m such a hard worker.
Hi. Just me again. You said triathlon in your post so I HAD to comment. I, too, am an Olympics freak. As in I DVR and watch all the trials so that I know exactly who I want to root for as to not be swayed by those time eating human interest stories. If the mood strikes, you know who to talk to about your future triathlete career. Other things: Try reading “A bump in the road” and “not ready for mom jeans” trust me, they are NOT about babies like you would think and chick lit and its finest. THEY. ARE. HYSTERICAL. I want that ice cream and salad. That is all.
Jennifer Weiner’s new one comes out next week – I’m looking forward to Emily Giffins too though. Also having same dilemma on magic mike haha :)
emily giffin’s new book and a sequel to the devil wears prada in 2013, how lucky could we be?!?! we’ll be reading trash for days!!!
I want that ice cream cone.
Ok, you are absolutely hilarious. And I agree about the Olympics! Just soooooo excited for it too!
#7 The new Real World starts tomorrow night and I know the girl named Laura. If someone asked me to pick one person I know to be on the real world, it would be her. She is cuh-razy.
#11 Reading John Sandford’s Stolen Prey. I’m a Minnesotan so I LOVE reading his novels. I’m also a wannabe attorney, so I love John Grisham’s novels.
Wish I was in Cali. Instead I’m roasting in Nebraska where there is NO water.
I *might* be going to see Magic Mike on Sunday. And by might I mean definitely am. I’ll tell Alcide you say whaddup.
Have fun in Cali, get a tan for me, god knows I can’t get one. Xo
i LOVE girls – and this blog post. that’s all <3
Me too, I’m so excited about the Olympics.
I’m waiting for Emily Giffin’s new book too! I’m so disappointed that it doesn’t come out until the day after I get back from vacation, because I’d love to have it for the airplane and beach! Also, I eat ice cream nearly every day in the summer. No shame.
you can totally go see Magic Mike. Just say you are joining in on my birthday celebration from a different state and since you can’t be here in person to go with the girls you are making up for it by going when we go, and tweeting us at the same time. Or just be a law breaker, you choose. :)
Again can we be best friends, I’m going to the beach next week and am going to devour some major chick lit and love every minute of it and ice cream cones with sprinkles make my summer. Don’t resist just give into the joy that is summer. And the olympics!! I’m super excited, it is my dream to go and watch in person one day but will watch on my couch this year. And if you don’t eat your tomatoes send them my way, my tomato plants died a sad death within a week (watering, not watering, don’t know what the issue was)
I have been re-reading all of Emily Griffin’s book the last couple weeks, I love “Heart of the Matter”, because I’m waiting for my vacation in San Diego to read Fifty Shades Darker! EEk I have issues!
