Mango Jalapeño Margaritas.
It’s February and I want a… margarita.
Technically I always want a margarita since it IS my favorite cocktail, but in the heart of this chilly winter, you’d think I would want something warm. Even though the weather these days is quite indecisive, you know with snow and ice followed by 60 degree days and sun that makes you feel like it’s May. It’s absolutely the season of oh-it’s-cold-so-wear-a-puffy-coat-then-get-in-your-car-and-have-a-heat-meltdown-and-strip-while-blasting-the-AC-as-high-as-it-can-go.
Just me? It’s also the season of even-though-it’s-18-degrees-out-I’m-still-wearing-flip-flops-to-yoga-because-I’m-just-taking-them-off-anyway. Followed by the season of I’d-rather-attempt-to-break-my-arms-and-carry-24-grocery-bags-at-once-than-make-a-second-trip-to-my-car-to-unload-them.
I don’t think that last one has an actual season since it happens all the time, and more so just has something to do with being a ridiculous millennial, which I can say because I am one.
Anyway, this is sorta warm. Like hot warm. Spicy warm?
How about this weekend you make some jalapeño-infused tequila? I first had a jalapeño margarita last summer but a few weeks ago at brunch (stop judging) I had some jalapeño tequila and loved it. Which is HUGE, considering I am the most gigantic baby in the world and ask for my Thai food to be at a spice level of “two.”
I am also a pretty big margarita snob – please don’t ever mention the words “sours mix” in my presence or do something with Triple Sec – but this sort of cheapo silver tequila does the trick for me and doesn’t break the bank. When it comes to the peppers, I soaked the stuff for one day but removed the seeds before adding the slices to my actual drink. See? Giant baby. That move is up to you but if you’re in the business of burning your mouth off, go for it. More power to you.
Just maybe don’t kiss anyone or lick anything? Cool.
Oh and do you know what is worse than rubbing your eyes after touching jalapeños? Rubbing your eyes after touching jalapeños and tequila. I’m going to go crawl in a hole and die now.
Mango Jalapeño Margaritas
Ingredients
- 2 ounces Grand Marnier
- 1 1/2 ounces jalapeño tequila
- 2 ounces lime juice
- 2 1/2 ounces mango simple syrup
- 1/2 mango, peeled and chopped
- 2 jalapeño peppers, sliced
- salt for the rim
- lime wedges
Instructions
- For jalapeño tequila: add 2 sliced jalapeños to a large jar or container and cover with 1 1/2 cups of tequila. Let sit for 24 hours, then strain before using. Keep in a sealed container for a few weeks, preferably in the fridge.
- For mango simple syrup: combine equal parts sugar and water (I suggest 1 cup of each), bring to a boil and let sugar dissolve, then turn off heat and let cool completely. Combine 1 cup simple syrup + 1/2 mango (peeled and cubed) in a blender and blend until combined.
- To make the margaritas, rim the ridge of your glass with a lime wedge and dip in margarita salt. Fill the glass with ice. In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, grand marnier, simple syrup and lime juice with ice, and shake for about 30 seconds. Pour over ice and squeeze in lime slices. I also took a few of the jalapeños from the tequila and removed the seeds, then toss them in the margarita.

It’s also National Margarita Day – so these couldn’t be more perfect! I love mango and chile together, and I may have to celebrate with one (okay more than one) of these today. Salud!
is it really!? i had no idea! sweet.
This sounds absolutely heavenly!!!
Thanks to Heather announcing this foodie holiday and your inspiration it looks like i have the perfect excuse to make this margarita tonight! Yummy!
Oh we are so similar in so many ways! The arm breaking grocery bag thing –> so me, especially after Costco. All I can say is thank goodness I don’t live in a high rise apartment or anywhere that involves lots of stairs because I think my arms would have snapped off by now. These margaritas sound awesome (yes, even at 7:3am!) Cheers! :)
brunch:
/brənCH/
Noun
(1) A late morning meal eaten instead of breakfast and lunch.
(2) An reason to drink before noon.
You were all good.
Jalapeno tequila? Oh my gosh I’m in heaven!! Your drink is everything I love! Must make this weekend!!!
Beautiful pictures as always! Looks so fresh and spring like… Thanks for reminding me spring is coming.
I never ever learn about the eye-touching-after-jalapeno-cutting. NEVER. I think I’m going blind every single time, too.
Also, we are buried under mountains of snow as I type this, so I’m going to pretend I didn’t see this today (my hands are cold just thinking about holding that beautiful glass) and come back for it in a few months.
jalapenos in my margarita? That sounds pretty wild! I could definitely use a drink or two after driving in this snowstorm though. I’m waaaaaaaay past ready for Spring now. Let’s get rid of all this snow already!!
This sounds spicy and sweet! I cant wait to try it
WHY am I seeing this at the BEGINNING of my work day… Want. This. Now.
SHUT THE F UP.
I want this. Now.
Sorry your almost cursing.
I want this! and for it to be sandal weather…but, I’ll settle for the cocktail.
I do the grocery bag thing, too…I’m pretty sure all of my upper-body strength can be attributed to this method of getting groceries from car-to-house. I can’t help it!
I had a margarita just like this in Minneapolis at a tequila bar this past summer. I think it had serrano peppers in it instead, though. Very unique combination – I’d definitely have one again!
I’m thinking that maybe – just maybe – one (or two) of these would make me feel like I’m on vacation when in actuality, I’m stuck in Boston.
Bring on the snow…and the Mango Jalapeno Margaritas ;)
this looks amazing! i’m allergic to mangoes (completely unfair, considering they were my favorite fruit), but i’ve recently discovered that persimmons make a pretty neat and delicious mango substitute. next time i’m in trader joe’s, i’ll have to scope out the produce section and see if i can snag some :)
Today happens to be National Margarita Day according to Jimmy Buffett! I’m wearing sandals to work today because it’s going to bee 77 degrees here in Georgia, yay! Cheers!
I made something like this sans mango this summer and it was a total hit! I think I might just have to make this tonight and dream of the day when Pittsburgh will be getting warm again.
You are an evil genius. I bought an jalapeno pepper yesterday and now I can’t even remember what I wanted to do with it. I think it’s destined to take a swim in a jar of tequila instead.
This totally screams Friday. I had tacos last night, so why not margs tonight?
I feel your pain … It is inevitable that I will rub my eyes immediately after chopping a jalepeno even after repeatedly telling myself “Don’t rub your eyes.” I am hopeless.
These margaritas = cure my winter blues.
i always crave cocktails that are completely inappropriate for the season. hot toddys in the summer, bloody marys in the evening. margaritas and cold gin in the winter. must be a dietary deficiency…? love this!
Just please don’t lick anyone in the eye. ;)
I too, consider myself a tequila/margarita snob. You had me going right up until I saw the Margaritaville tequila. Blech! What is the saying? Friends don’t let friends use bad tequila (*cough* Cuervo/Margaritaville *cough*). :) Next time try Espolin or Milagro blancos. Both have amazing flavors and are roughly the same price point as the one you used here. Now, that I’ve done my Mexican duty for the day (I think I was Mexican in a previous life), I’m going to go out and buy the ingredients to make these. Happy Margarita Day!!
hahaha don’t worry, it is def not my first choice but it works for me in a pinch!
BTW – there is technically a vegetable in your drink! Combined with the mango and lime juice/wedge, you may have a serving! LOL Sounds yummy!
omg… so true. health all around.
I’ve never tried jalapeno in a beverage… but I think that’s about to change!
Why are you torturing meeeeee?! I gave up liquor (and beer!) for Lent. Is this an appropriate post-church Easter Sunday beverage? I sure hope so.
Also, that whole carrying a billion grocery bags on each arm was my life until I finally invested in some of those reusable grocery bags. They hold the contents of about 4 plastic bags and are infinitely easier to carry since they have long handles that can be slung over your shoulder!
can i have one now? is 10:42am too early for a drink? I think not.
no, it’s friday!
I’m a baby and don’t know if I could handle this drink. I actually like spicy food (a LOT), but once had a drink with jalapenos and couldn’t do it–I think it actually had pear and jalapeno, can’t remember now.
That being said, I know the pain of jalapeno burns. At work once, I had to mince like 25 jalapenos, I wore gloves, AND my hands were still burning by the time I was done. Then I got home and spent the next 20 minutes googling home remedies, haha!
Totally read my mind – I want a margarita too! And the jalapeno tequila? Get.In.My.Bloodstream.
Dag this looks good. Jalapenos have a mildly fruity taste to me, so they’d wash down well with mango and lime. Salud, fo sho!
Happy National Margarita Day! What a perfect recipe for the best day of the year ;)
I’m not a jalapeno fan but i’d sure give these a try! i actually know a few people in my family that would love these! Have a great weekend! :)
Margaritas are my fav! These look awesome–I love the spice. My husband rubbed his eye once after cutting jalapenos and boy was it bad! We were googling what to do for hours…no good! This looks delicious!
Perfect for Ntl Margarita Day! Right on the money girlfriend! Cheers!!
My mouth is watering. Can’t wait to try these.
OH MY! Love. I’m so thirsty. Thanks for helpin’ a girl out!
Not just you. I totally still wear flip flops to yoga.
I am the the only person who didn’t know it was Natl Margarita Day. Yours is gorgeous. I am 1 day ahead for Natl Banana Bread Day (tomorrow) with a big roundup and it’s funny you mentioned your love of banana bread and banana everything. It’s your perfect week of food holidays :)
This looks fabulously refreshing! … quite fitting for National Margarita Day!! :)

Happy National Margarita Day! I’m kind of wondering if you planned that on purpose, or if this recipe just happened to fall on the holiday. (Well, I’m counting it as a holiday.)
If it wasn’t for lent, I totally would have had one of these as part of a well-balanced liquid lunch today. Ok, the only part of a well-balanced liquid lunch.
Ugh
I’m loving this recipe! I’m in love with jalepenos….and in a margarita?! What could be better! So interesting – I’ll have to try it :)
Have you tried the habanero margarita recipe yet? I got it from chef Jeffrey Saad. Will have to send it to you as it is AMAZING and has the same don’t rub your eyes effect. You’ll love it.
Sadly I’m not a big fan of jalapenos or margaritas but I must say…these look delicious! Even in this freezing weather.

Great timing. My husband had one of these at a bar and has been trying to recreate them.
We made these last night with a Rick Bayless’ recipe for chilaquilles and these drinks were awesome. Unfortunately, we found a worse place to touch than your eyes after handling jalapeños. OUCH,
