Tuesday Things.
1. I wore my favorite neon pink heels on Sunday night to see a show with my parents and you would have thought that I had a freaking scarlet letter A emblazoned across my chest for the looks and trash talk I was getting. It was unreal. It could have been because most of the population was over the age of 65, but whatever.
2. Simply dying over these skittle marshmallow pops. So precious.
3. Have I ever told you about my odd obsession with Josh Groban? Yes. I love him. I know that none of my music taste really fits with my hot pink and glitter and OMG persona, but it definitely fits with my old lady brain. Oh, except for Justin Timberlake. I am on high alert for the day a few weeks from now when his new album comes out and I probably won’t listen to anything else for six straight weeks. I’ll also probably tell you about it. Constantly.
4. I’ve also watched his Grammy performance maybe, like, ten times by now? DVRs, I love you.
5. Today I tried an iced vanilla spiced latte from Starbucks annnnnnd it was one of the foulest things I’ve ever tasted. And not just because I don’t love coffee. I felt like I was actually chewing cardamom and cloves. I am scarred, and no, I didn’t go return it because I am a doormat and don’t know how to stick up for myself.
6. In other news, I’ve been consuming an obnoxious amount of frozen yogurt lately. Coincidentally, I’m thinking about giving up sweets for Lent. Well, like sweets that don’t involve taste testing recipes for my job. Remember that one year I gave up bacon? Yeah, I don’t want to remember it either.
7. Have you guys heard about the whole cruise ship nightmare in the Gulf of Mexico where those people are stranded without power? Okay, I have never been a cruise person. I’ve never desired to go on a cruise. Now? I am never ever ever going on one. Ever. Like Taylor Swift NEVER.
8. I think I can put last Saturday down in the books as one of my favorite eating days ever. It started off with short rib breakfast hash and chocolate covered bacon pancakes and a jalapeño tequila bloody mary for brunch and finished with my favorite pizza in the world and the aforementioned frozen yogurt. Also: I shall never eat again.
9. Oh and? I try to like bloody marys to be cool (and am, well, easily sold on the worlds “jalapeño” and “tequila’) but you know how I don’t like tomato sauce? If you didn’t know, a bloody mary is like drinking straight up tomato sauce. Or juice. Whatever. Duh Jessica. Lesson learned. (but probably not.)
10. Thoughts on Girls? I’m sure most people hated it, but again, I enjoyed it. So relatable. Except for when Hannah turns into a nightmare at the end. Never done that. (and I now hear the collective laughs of everyone I ever dated.)
11. For my 90s friends, here are 38 ways to tell if you had the best childhood ever. I’m just sort of sad that pocket rockers aren’t on there. I used to jam out to Taylor Dayne on that thing. Now I just do it in my kitchen with an iPod dock. Things have not changed.
12. More evidence that Target is out to get me? I want all of the Prabal Gurung things. I mean, allllll of the things. Perhaps I should give up Target for Lent.
74 Comments on “Tuesday Things.”
I saw Prabal Gurung’s line featured on GMA this morning and nearly died. It’s all neon. What is Target trying to do to my wallet? Oh yeah, the same thing it does everytime I go through the store… Empty it.
Love those pink shoes! Also, one of my co-workers is on that cruise ship. She was supposed to be back at work on Monday but apparently won’t be back til later in the week. Can’t wait to hear her stories!
are you kidding me?! oh my gosh… i feel for her. just reading the articles on it are horrific.
It sounds like such a nightmare. I can’t imagine…
#7. I refuse to go to Mexico. I am afraid of Mexican jail. I will travel to any other international location, but i will not go to Mexico.
Girls… OMG. First of all, Hannah’s romper and her ridiculous VPL in them. Dyinggggg. Second of all, the topless ping pong. I felt so uncomfortable during that scene. Hi to the larious.
The ping pong killed me!
I too adored Girls this week—it was so different from the usual episodes. Much more like a mini indie movie (says the girl who is obsessed with The Notebook and Pitch Perfect….pretty sure I don’t get to make insightful tv-to-film connections). Was I the only one dying inside when she inevitably ruined it by being an emotional banshee? Way too relatable for this girl over here!
Yes yes and yes! You nailed it all :)
Oh my god pocket rockers. I forgot all about those!!!
Give up Target for Lent?! Is that really WWJD? I don’t think so…but maybe I’m just projecting :)
My boyfriend had a vanilla spiced frappucino and he didn’t like it either! I tried it and agreed it was definitely too heavy on the cardamom!!
The email I sent my bff after watching Girls consisted of “wtf” and “so weird” repeated over and over. Totally like a car wreck, can’t look away. It was such a strange situation, I just wanted her to go home and tell Shoshanna so we could see what kinda crazy thing she’d have to say about it. But I actually think the whole episode was kind of genius!
Give up target for lent? How evil are you?
(Just so you know, you don’t have to give something up for lent. You can also choose to do something that will ‘better yourself’. For instance, a friend of mine chose to go to mass every day for lent. You could also do something like, do something nice for someone everyday. Bring someone cookies, or cupcakes or try your darndest not to argue or pick fights with your husband…..)
I’m still conflicted on this week’s Girls. All of my friends hated it but I kind of liked it. Also, why does Hannah insist on wearing such unflattering clothes?
I actually saw an interview with their costume designer, and they intentionally put her in things that don’t look the best on her. I guess they don’t want her to look too put together or we might stop thinking she’s a train wreck? Pretty sure there’s zero chance of that happening!
the only good thing about the new Target line? they don’t ship to Canada….yes I understand there are ways around it, but all that work is how I justify NOT maxing our my cc on the new stuff! guess I”ll just have to wait another month or so until they open up in the great white (or brown if you’re here in Calgary) north!
Love those neon pink heels and I still love the show Girls, even though last week’s (err, this past Sunday’s) episode was beyond awkward.
P.S. – I’m 100% with you on the cruise sentiments.
I am like you with froyo, once I get going with eating some I just can’t stop! I have a place that I used to go to everyday during my lunch break and one day I found a piece of hair swimming IN my yogurt…haha it may have been mine not sure but it definitely stopped my daily cravings!
I do like the vanilla spice soy chai tea! Haven’t had the iced latte.
OK so I feel kind of bad because I love pink, a lot. This weekend, however, we were at a high school basketball game and the coach had on a black suit with a skirt and hot pink stilleto heels. On the basketball court. It seemed totally off and awkward and my hubby and I will admit to talking bad about her for a minute. I could probably be lumped into the 80 year old category now. But on the basketball court coaching basketball? Just odd.
Anyway, you are the sweetest ever, by the way. I’m going to tell Leah that Aunt Jessica is sending her to college. I appreciate, as always, the link love my friend :)
hahahaha – agreed, basketball court = odd.
Naked Pingpong. It is now quite possibly one of the most car crash scenes of Girls. And I loved it and felt weird at the same time. Also, that romper? Whoa.
I loved this week’s GIRLS. Granted it was a bit hard to watch at times, but completely relatable.. I think the emotional break at the end is only slightly what I once did.. but the dude wasn’t exactly Mr. Perfect . haha
I’m giving up ‘unnecessary spending’ for Lent – i.e. trips to Target are gonna be real hard..
Ha, i’d really like to see you give up Target. The constant sight of Lena’s boobs are starting to bother me a tiny tiny bit. I mean, i just don’t want to see anyone’s boobs that much, really.
Those vanilla spice lattes are so gross! They sound appealing, like maybe they’d have just a hint of chai flavor, but instead they just taste…wrong.
girls…..i loved it….and then i was like WHY???!! WHY MUST YOU RUIN THE FANTASY?
and then my husband was all DUDE. WHY IS SHE WEARING THAT?!! WHAT DOES SHE WEAR STUFF LIKE THAT.
and then i was like, I know, honey. I know.
at least he watches it with you. mine throws the tantrum of the century and leaves the room.
nudity. plain & simple.
I was really liking this week’s episode of Girls and then the awkward meltdown happened. It caused major secondhand embarrassment, on top of what I was already feeling about the outfit she was wearing.
Ugh on the vanilla spice latte and I love coffee.
I really wanted to go on another cruise this year…until this stranded with no running water thing hit the news. I feel so bad for those people. I’d be freaking out.
I have tried to like Bloody Mary’s as well. As a fellow hater of tomato juice I have one word…GAG!
I must be in the minority because I am *loving* the new Starbucks Vanilla Spice lattes. But for some ridiculous reason they are 60 cents more per cup than a regular vanilla latte, which is really annoying and makes an already expensive cup of coffee even more expensive… so, trying not to get too addicted! Also, I adore your pink heels and would totally wear them no matter what looks people give me!
Wait, you can’t give up Target for Lent! They’re selling the new Josh Groban album with four exclusive tracks!! Love. Him. I’ve been listening to him nonstop since I bought the album. Well, I suppose it isn’t. Lent just yet. So you can still squeeze in a Target trip.
I seriously almost cried just looking at #30 on that 90s list. (My boyfriend refuses to watch The Lion King with me.)
Justin Timberlake was good and I love his hair. He was my daughter’s obsession when she was 13 (more than half her lifetime ago!) and I’ve always appreciated that he has stayed out of trouble…good thing that thing with Spears ended early!
BUT my favorite part of the Grammy’s…just loved the Adam Levine and Alicia Keyes duet; I know he’s too young and I know he’s a bad boy but I don’t care; I like him.
Re cruise ships. One word. Sharks. I will never, ever, ever get onboard for that very possibility of meeting them face to face.
oh i totally agree – LOVED that performance too and adam levine… no words. love him.
if you liked that performance (loved it) – peep Adam and Alicia covering the Stones’ “Wild Horses” a few years back :)
My boyfriend HATES Girls. HATES! So, naturally I send him screenshots of Lena Dunham naked. Yesterday he received a nice text of her playing ping pong. :)
the breakdown might have been the only relatable part… i actually was annoyed at how unrealistic and unrelatable it was. i did watch it with my boyfriend, and, yes, i do enjoy watching his faces…. but what girl goes into a stranger’s apartment in the middle of the day, hooks up, stays a while? also, at the risk of sounding like a giant troll (whether it’s nice or not…), realistically, guys like that dude generally don’t go for girls like Hannah. every guy i know who watched commented “never happen.” but thank you, Adrianna, for giving me a great idea with the ping pong text :)
That was my EXACT reaction as it was happening. Then again, I’ve been told on more than one occasion that I think way more like a dude than a chick so it probably explains my “never happen” thoughts to the whole scenario. That was totally Lena Dunham’s fantasy/dream taking over for a hot second.
I tried that vanilla spice latte TOO and it was AWFUL. This is partially why I never try new things!!
Glad I’m not the only one…?
I just talked about that foul latte on my blog last week, it was AWFUL! I was so excited about it, it had such great promise, but it was just a cup full of yuck.
Girls was okay this week. Patrick Wilson is a hottie.
I made my husband stop watching Shark Tank and go get frozen yogurt with me at like 10pm last night. It’s a sickness. That I have no intention of fighting.
OMG the pocket rocker! I too rocked out to Taylor Dayne on there (and Belinda Carlisle, and Tiffany… ok I’ll stop but my friend just saw Taylor Dayne in concert a month ago and I am jealous.)
So a couple of weeks ago I went to bed and bath because my dog peed on my pillow. I went to get a pillow and some champagne glasses but instead bought have the store. One impulse buy was a mini speaker you could attach to your phone. I like to sing in the kitchen along with my ipod but am always dropping it because I forget I have headphones on and that it is on the counter. So most speakers were around $50, which I felt too stingy for that day, but then there was a tiny cute one for $10. That’s more like it!
It looked innocuous enough, just blue behind some dark plastic, but then I got it home and it was turquoise with leopard “fur”! Also has a chain with a bright blue carabiner to attach it to your pants, so you can truly annoy others. It is now definitely the ugliest thing I own and I love it! It totally reminds me of the pocket rocker. And not to be enabling or anything, but you can also get it at Target…

#6 took the words directly from my mouth. So much fro yo. Giving up sweets for Lent because things have gotten out of control and going cold turkey is the only option.
Also – all the religious reasons of sacrifice, etc. ;)
JT is back!!!! I can’t WAIT for his new album.
“cruise ship nightmare in the Gulf of Mexico where those people are stranded without power” — that’s news to me! Off to google this next!
But I am shocked you don’t like bloody mary’s. They’re spicy and savory and have all kinds of bold spices and I can see you loving them more so than I could see you going for a fruity drink. I actually love bloody mary’s but never have them b/c the sodium content is more sodium in 1 drink than I have all year :)
Girls was so good. The whole time I was like “this is a weird episode, I don’t know about it…” Then after it was over and I thought it had only been FIVE minutes, I realized it was genius. It is one of the best written shows on tv.
Also, that post on a 90s childhood brought back so many good memories!
I love cruises! But I will admit that all of the recent cruise scares do have me a little hesitant to go on another one anytime soon! ;)
I want to make “like Taylor Swift NEVER” my new favorite (over-used) phrase. Loveeeee it.
I had a vanilla spice latte today. I liked it, but agree that the cardamom was overwhelming. I also got some hints of citrus which I am not a fan of when I’m not expecting it. I will not get it again.
The Guys on Girls commentary (from Slate) called the episode the worst yet. I actually kind of liked it. I either have no taste or Girls can do no wrong in my book. Or both.
I’m contemplating giving up peanut butter for Lent. I’m seriously stupid. Also, Pocket Rockers were the shiz-nit. I loved my Bangles, Huey Lewis, Bon Jovi and Tiffany. Also, I went on a cruise once (7 days through the Caribbean), and it was awesome, but I’ve become totally scarred by all of the crazy norovirus, ships tipping over and loss of power stories in the news. I don’t think I’d go on another one now!
I have heard way too many horror stories on cruise ships now – defnitely no longer on my list of things to do.
My husband has always loved bloody mary’s and while I wish I could get into them (healthiest cocktail out there) – it ain’t ever. gonna. happen. I do not wish to drink tomato juice in ever. I don’t even eat tomato soup!
Where is this yogurt from? Razzy Fresh??? Sweetlix??? I MUST KNOW AND GO THERE IMMEDIATELY!!!
the yogurt from this post and last week are both from TCBY in murrysville… my all time fave is sincerely yogurt, they have locations in monroeville, sewickley, bridgeville and i think a few others? i like tutti frutti in squirrel hill too!
Relatable. That is literally the word I use to describe every single episode of Girls, which is why Lena Dunham is pure genius. Love it.
Wear your neon pink pumps with pride, girlfriend! You were going to a show, not the office. Totally acceptable. I happen to like cruises, but I have not been on one in like 5 years. Thankfully nothing happened on any of ours, even the one we took merely weeks after Hurricane Katrina to the Caribbean.
Ok, based on your meal description, you were at Meat and Potatoes Saturday…. So was I! I also had the short rib hash (good, but too salty?) and the monkey bread! Love that place!
I tried the spiced vanilla latte when it first came out and it is AWFUL! And I love coffee. So it’s definitely not us. It’s them.
I’m such a bad Catholic that I had no idea it was even time for lent. Coincidentally, I signed up to do a Whole Life Challenge which involves eating Paleo and not consuming alcohol, sweets, etc. for the next 55 days. It’s amazing, I didn’t even try and I’m still giving up stuff :-)
Give up Target, your husband will love you for it!
Good luck on your Whole Life Challenge, Alyssa! Best decision I’ve ever made!
I want to stick this entire post in my bra. JT, yes yes yes.
And the rest of it . . . I already forgot what I was going to say.
have you downloaded the Girls (vol. 1) soundtrack yet?! love.
no, thought i’ve been dying too! no idea why. i go through itunes and preview the whole CD multiple days per week. it needs done.
Have you tried a Caesar? Way better than a bloody mary, especially when garnished with pickled asparagus.
