Tuesday Things.
1. I was in Philly last night for a hot second where I talked to the cutest bunch of girls at the University of Pennsylvania about blogging and then was greeted with this bourbon, brown sugar fig and chocolate bitters cocktail. My eyes nearly popped out of my head. !!!! I am so anxious to make my own bitters. Does that require patience and stuff?
2. This past weekend was one of my favorites because my family still indulges our 12 year old selves and we dye easter eggs for HOURS. Remember glitter eggs? Where you dyed the eggs then dumped the glitter in a shaker bag and added the egg, then shook the whole thing up like shake ‘n bake chicken? Yeah. What a fabulous mess. Those were the prettiest eggs ever. Oh and to make things even better, my mom (I mean the easter bunny) still hides the eggs we dye so we can find them. Yeah.
3. On good Friday I usually make a big batch of lobster mac and cheese… and I shared a pic about my almost overflowing pot. Well. After I got the mac and cheese into a baking dish, I filled that same large pot to the top with water then proceeded to flood my entire kitchen with seafood water. I mean, it was a lot of water. On Sunday, we could not figure out why our house smelled like fish. Uh huh… this has been fun. Not.
4. These triple coconut cinnamon rolls need to appear in my life. Because, you know, the cadbury creme eggs, cadbury mini eggs, reese’s peanut butter eggs and dove coconut eggs were not enough to send me into diabetic shock over the weekend.
5. Last week my husband and I carried on a conversation in the car for ten minutes about Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert like we knew them and were best friends. Okay, well I carried on the conversation. I’m such a loser.
6. I have a problem listening to voicemails. As in, I just don’t do it. Unless I know it’s super duper important, I let them pile up on my phone until there are about 30, even though I’m obsessive with clearing all my inboxes constantly. Email me… text me… no voicemails.
7. Speaking of clearing inboxes, last week I got the new mailbox app? Um, I hate it. It did nothing more but stressed me out. I went from having a clear inbox to all of a sudden having 500 emails? This made no sense. Am I just using it wrong? Is there some crazy secret on how to use it and improve your life ten times over?
8. Since I don’t really have a life, I shared my march beauty favorites (and other favorites) on Friday night. You were probably doing something fun and cool.
9. Oh! And my husband totally put an urban decay eyeshadow palette in an easter basket for me on Sunday. Does he know me or does he know me?
10. Thoughts on the Walking Dead finale? I had a feeling that what happened… was going to happen. But all I really want to know is WHEN THE HECK ARE CAROL AND DARYL GOING TO HOOK UP? I’ve been waiting for, like, two years and in Jessica time that is forever. I can even get passed the fact of the rhyming names if they at least kiss. That’s obviously the most important thing during a zombie apocalypse.
11. I had a s’mores shake over the weekend. I’m going to make it for you. Just you wait.

To make you feel better, the boyfriend and i spent Friday night playing iPad trivia at our local burger joint. Then we fell asleep watching DVRed Project runway (from two weeks ago).
I hear ya on the Mailbox App! I was on the wait list for weeks and weeks then when I was finally granted the access, I used it for about 30 minutes and promptly deleted it. It just didn’t work for me, but yes, maybe I was doing something wrong.
And, btw, I just got over my sephora addiction and then I read your Beauty Favorites posts (I read Feb and Mar back to back — bad idea!) and now my addiction is back full throttle. Thanks. Thanks.
I have been DYING for them to get together ever since Carol’s husband died in the first season. I mean, come on already! Do you watch Talking Dead? Daryl, I mean, Norman Reedus was on there and he SORT of hinted that maybe next season he and Carol will become “closer”?
Also, Rick and Michonne???!!! I swear they had a moment in the prison…
you’re so cute.
i wanna be friends with you. :-)
I need that s’mores shake. thank you in advance for the recipe :).
That pot of lobster mac and cheese was OUT OF HAND!!! lol
Is there a recipe for that delicious looking lobster mac n cheese?
http://www.howsweeteats.com/2009/09/lobster-mac/
it’s an old recipe, not i use mostly havarti, fontina and mascarpone cheeses.
I had Tom take all the Easter candy to work. I am already regretting that moment of “will power”. Blah.
Glitter eggs! Love!
Wanna know what I love even more, though? Anything with the words “s’more” and “shake.” Omg.
OH those cinnamon rolls. Some Fridays I go to bed at 8pm. Does that make you feel better :)
Omigosh! I’m totes buying what you’re selling: Urban Decay palettes in Easter baskets, S’mores Shakes, and bourbon, brown sugar and fig (!!!!) cocktails. I want these things in my life. BELIEVE.
you went to Penn?! if only I’d known I would’ve come by for the talk!
Ahhh i wish i had know you were at Penn. I would have gone! I went to Penn and now live in Philly and am obsessed with reading your tuesday things every week!
Ok, your Tuesday Things just cracked me up…
Do you read the Walking Dead comics? I have to say, I didn’t see the end of the season coming… but I think it’s because I was in denial, thanks to reading the comics…. my brain was all like, “No no, that can’t happen”
I do have to say though… we were just about throwing things at the screen with every pause that was taken for some “sentimental reassurance” in that room. Like… seriously? You’re going to STOP GETTING THE PLIERS to TALK?! You can do both those things at once, ya know. It was… dumb. So dumb. Fake tension that wouldn’t have been there in real life, because any real person would be going mad grabbing the pliers.
I’m waiting for Daryl and Carol too… I’m assuming they’ll have more time for one another… maybe? I’ve always liked Daryl and Merle because they weren’t really in the comic, so they’re kind of wild cards… although after the prison, and Axel… it’s apparent they’re using Daryl to fill in for a number of other characters in the comic.
I wish phones didn’t have the voicemail option. I don’t do voicemails.
omg I love glitter eggs and totally forgot they existed until this moment! My mom showed me how to make my fingernails really glittery this weekend in between decorating Easter cupcakes.
One of my to-do list items for the week is to clear out all my email inboxes, so I totally hear you.
Screw listening to voicemails. Usually, I can tell what so-and-so wanted without listening to the voicemail so why bother? Or I’ll just ask them when I call back so they have to say it allllll over again. Now who’s winning?
I do the same e act things with voicemails…then I return all my calls while I am out walking. Some multitasking just works.
I liked both #1 and #3 on Instagram and had showed BOTH to my hubs while saying “WAAAANT!” I don’t think he got the message.
6. me too. hate listening to them. text me, people.
9. jealous X a billionty.
10. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR FRIGGIN ANDREA TO DIE FOR AGES. She bugged the living daylights out of me. Plus, ghost Lauri needs to go away. And Amen to the Carol/Daryl thing. PS: isn’t called the WALKING DEAD? Not CRAZY GOVERNOR?!! Gimme more zombie action people.
Ohhhhhhh man I need to get caught up on The Walking Dead. I scrolled down SO FAST when I saw you were talking about the finale, I’m like 3 episodes behind!! Playing with fire over here.
OMG. your husband is really sweet. That would be way to detailed for my man. Thanks for the triple coconut cinnamon roll love :)
Please share the lobster mac and cheese recipe!!
http://www.howsweeteats.com/2009/09/lobster-mac/
this recipe is insanely old (like one of the first i posted on my site) – i do it a little differently now, using mainly fontina, havarti and mascarpone cheeses.
holy schniekies. i need that drink, like, tonight.
Love the lobster mac & cheese and smores float!!
do you have a good recipe for the lobster mac & cheese?
this recipe is insanely old (like one of the first i posted on my site) – i do it a little differently now, using mainly fontina, havarti and mascarpone cheeses. http://www.howsweeteats.com/2009/09/lobster-mac/
oooo thank you!! :) I def want to make this!
I loved the Walking Dead finale. I thought it was perfect and moving.
um, COCONUT FILLED EGGS?! Ugh, I die. My boyfriend would really die. No, REALLY. He loves coconut in general, but drenced in chocolate in egg form? I would have to rush him to the hospital and get his stomach pumped. Eww.
Next time you are in Philly go to Khyber’s Pass Pub and get the bacon grease popcorn.
Where in Philly did you have the bourbon, brown sugar fig and chocolate bitters cocktail? Please do tell, as I go into Philly frequently and would love to find the place that makes it! Thanks!
Not sure where that drink was, but I highly recommend the Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co. http://www.thefranklinbar.com/
So the mailbox app. I hate it too. Mine told me I had 500 messages even though I read everything. That number actually represents how many messages are sitting in your inbox in the app. Even if you read them in another app or on your computer, you actually have to mark them again as read on the mailbox app. Yeah, it’s stupid.
And ugh, Walking Dead. Andrea has been annoying, but I really hated the way they killed her off. We’ve seen her get pushed against a tree with three walkers clawing at her and she takes them all out without any difficulty. And then here she is stuck in a chair, she has one hand free with pliers and both her legs are free and she gets bit. Really? No.
lovely post :) I feel same way about voicemails and inboxes – it drives me nuts!!!
S’mores Shake? Yes, please!
That Lobster Mac & Cheese looks perfect! I need to try that ASAP!
Do you follow Miranda and Blake on twitter? I pretend like they are my friends too. The other day Miranda tweeted at Blake and said that she couldn’t wait to see him even if it was only for 12 hours and he tweeted back a simple “hurry”.
UGH i love them.
So sad she isn’t coming to Pittsburgh this year in concert but I will be seeing Blake for sure!
I’m with you on the voicemail thing. I do listen to mine ( mostly because my husband doesn’t & that stresses me out ), but please email or text instead. No calls!
I Love Love Love that your husband gives you an Easter basket, let alone with make-up in it. Too cute! Love the post, as usual!
I was in bed by 830 friday night. watching the kids ski is exhausting i tell ya! happy belated easter….spring is here.
I’m allll about the dyeing easter eggs still. Adrienne was a grand excuse to spend a morning on the floor doing just that.
And I had to skip that last one because i am a season behind on The Walking Dead (and every other tv show on earth) and I didn’t’ want to spoil it for myself. Actually, it probably wouldn’t even have made sense. I’ll read it and we can talk in a year.
I am obsessive with clearing out my mail counts, too. I recently got a new Reeder (Mac) since Reader (Google) is going away. It blows any other service away that I’ve tried. Best 4.99 app ever. Gmail is changing a bit, too, and dont love their new compose screen stuff. If you have a new mail program you actually like, LMK!
I feel like I’ve been living in a cave or something–what is the mailbox app??? I need lobster mac and cheese in my life. Pronto!
don’t let that new pallet fall to an untimely potty death like mine… :(
I didn’t get any easter candy this year and like you, I’m a total coconut fan. I’ve been stalking all the grocery isles looking for coconut eggs and I can’t find ANY. WTF?! I’m incredibly disappointed!
I’m glad you shared the link to those cinnamon rolls.
So where in Philly did you eat? We go pretty often-if you get the chance, Talulah’s garden is pretty damn fantastic.
Umm. Number 6. Guilty. I hate, hate, hate voicemails. I don’t care who they are from. The problem I have with them is: everyone has caller ID now, right? Especially on a cell phone (the only phone I even pick up and answer…occasionally). So, if I see you called me, I’ll call you back. Not waste 30 seconds of my life listening to a voicemail that I will than (eventually) call you back and discuss with you. Moral of the story: leave me a voicemail, it will automatically get deleted.
I am the same exact way with voicemails…I hate them! I also kind of hate talking on the phone! I much prefer emailing and texting! Also can’t wait for that shake! Looks delicious!
M
Philly fan here. WHERE IN THE WORLD IS THAT COCKTAIL AT????? Come back more often, Philly is a great food town. :)
How exciting that you went to speak about blogging! Way cool!! I hear you about the emails! u have to clear my inbox or it drives me insane! Oh and I can not wait for the smores shake!
Love this post :) you’re too funny!
That drink looks amazing
Not only does making your own bitters require patience, it also requires a number of ingredients most people pretty much can only source from an online retailer. Such a bummer. And since it takes time to make them and you really can only tweak them through experimentation, developing a new recipe is like slowly killing yourself with minuscule doses of poison…if you lack patience anyway, which I do.
Soo enjoy your posts. Makes me enjoy my in box to see them arrive. I want to be just like you when I grow up. Oh wait, I think I am older than you…. :0)
I’m with you on the voicemails. I hate them too. I use google voice. You can link your cell number with it and then it transcribes all of your voicemails and you can read them and it will send them to you as a text message. Also, they don’t just pile up on the inbox on your phone. I use it ALL the time because you can also text and call directly from you computer and it looks like it’s coming from your phone and I lose my phone in my own 1 bedroom apartment like it’s my job.
Maybe you should try it? It’s free. Free is good.
