Tuesday Things.
1. Food tastes better on heart plates that are probably made for children but somehow end up in my possession.
2. Some of the most perfect comfort food ever: soft boiled eggs with grilled cheese slices. DEAD.
3. Well. I certainly lost my mind over Bruno Mars and the super bowl halftime show. I adored it. I pretty much just sat there in disbelief staring at the screen. Then I’d be all “Eddie! THIS IS SO GOOD!” I’ve since watched it a million times.
4. Speaking of the game, I know everyone is like omg, it was so boring, what a blowout. Not that I had any stake in this game, but I’m such an anxiety ridden freak over close scoring games that I welcome a big gap in scoring. During football season, I’m all about those games where my team happens to be up 30 points and I can rest easy. I’m a snoozefest.
5. I sucked it up and joined goodreads. Now let’s see if I can keep up with it. Why am I always three years behind in life? It’s a little overwhelming at the moment as I can only think of the books I have liked in the past few years. I need to go through my book stash which makes me feel like a hoarder. Two words: must donate. I have a difficult time parting with books though!
6. I have said this before but I am legitimately ticked off that I got married before pinterest. It really is not fair.
7. As if I needed another reason to adore Meryl Streep.
8. Yesterday a phone book was delivered to our doorstep. I have a serious question. And no, I’m not being a smart ass. Do people really still use phonebooks? I think my mom might occasionally use one since she doesn’t use the internet at all, but I don’t know another soul who uses one. If there is a time when we need a number for a business, we… google it. It’s also kind of funny how people now find phone books to be creepy. Like, what do you mean that my phone number and address are in there?!
9. Your Tuesday just got so much better: 28 Valentine’s Day cards you haven’t seen since the 90s. Um, true story: I wanted to buy a pack of hot pink little valentines at Target the other day. Obviously. Since the moment I walk in the door they somehow drug my brain.
10. I’m still on the fence about how I feel about Girls this season. I did like this week’s episode a little more than the previous two. I’m just so curious why Hannah STILL thinks it is appropriate to dress this way. Like wouldn’t her boyfriend tell her to pull it together before going to work? I think it’s far past her being a liberated woman. Get it together man! Besides our Sons of Anarchy marathons, I’m not watching much else at the moment. Except for Nashville OF COURSE. With my BFF Connie. I wish it was on seven days a week. So common.
11. Been in the craziest baking mood lately. I’ve made funfetti cookies (yes, from the box cake) twice in one week and made this lemon cake this morning. Can you say snowed in cabin fever?

seriously. we are getting married this fall, and … I thought I was Pinterest obsessed before. I have a secret wedding board, so people cannot see all the fun I’m doing. my maid of honor is on it too, and it is getting really fun over there. I may have to make it public after the wedding.
I cannot get rid of books either. I just keep adding more shelves.
have you watched the following? I cant remember if you’ve ever mentioned it. I trust your tv show recommendations and i’m not completely in LOVE with homeland. I just wish it was all on Netflix and not just the discs. blah.
I also cant remember what shade you got of the maskcara? I sent an email to her and she recommended me for dark?? i’m asking cause I think we’re kinda close in the darker hair, lighter skin bucket.. but dark scares me.. I’ve never been ‘dark’ even in the middle of august.
and by maskcara I mean the HAC compact.
i have the light! but i have never in my life been darker than the first or second shade in any makeup line – even when i’m tan. i’m extremely fair skinned and freckled! i only really burn in the sun, if that helps!
oh and i haven’t watched the following but EVERYONE is telling me to do so.
I know I’ve said it before, but I’m just not digging Girls this season. Also, Shameless isn’t as good as in the past. Ugh.
And OMG – Hanson Valentine’s!
*Valentines (I hate improper usage of an apostrophe) :)
I’m with you on Girls this season. Just..meh…And the only thing I keep the phone book around is for the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse! When we can’t get on the Internets, this is how we will find things!
Is it okay that I look forward to Tuesdays for this post? I agree about it being totally not fair to have gotten married before pinterest. In a way though I’m glad because it would have made me go completely crazy.
true that. it probably would have made me bridezilla.
me too. a total bridezilla and i would have spent about 5x as much.
Totally agree with you on getting married before pinterest (as well as having a baby before pinterest!)…That being said, I did get married in time to register at Fortunoff which is sadly closed now. New Yorkers know how significant this is so I guess it makes up for the lack of wedding pins in my life….and yeah, with you on the phone book thing…probably only 10% of the population still uses it, not to mention, it only includes home phones and how many people even still have one? (I do actually…)
I have more kiddie plates then I’d like to admit. They are too cute! I now have a toddler and I’m forced to share my Target Kiddie plates. At least I have an excuse to have them now I guess.
I think the same thing about Hannah. Are they trying to push some kind of envelope? It’s ridiculous. lol
Just got engaged and completely have a secret wedding pinterest board that I’m ashamed to show my fiance. It’s a mess of everything ridiculous. And I love it.
I hoard books too – like am very concerned on what I will do with my library since he only has a small amount. I neeeeeed a room with bookshelves and my desk and my hoarding of sentimental things.
I totally own it too: http://willowbirdbaking.com/2014/01/12/raspberry-cheesecake-morning-buns/
And love it.
Those ’90s Valentine’s Day cards are too hilarious. I swear I received some of them back in the day!
We got a phone book yesterday too and I told my boyfriend why do these things even still exist?!?!? You should be able to be on a Do Not Deliver Phone Book list, like a Do Not Call List. If a business wants business in 2014, they better have a web site! I am suspicious of businesses that do not have a web site and generally won’t even use them. I figure there must be something wrong with them.
Oh thank you! I’m so over people whining about how boring that game was. I’m just over here, glad to be alive rather than passed out from stress. First Super Bowl win for the Seahawks? That’s plenty exciting :)
Phonebooks are creepy. It makes me think, “why would anyone have this and keep it long enough for anyone to notice.” Recycle! haha
I was standing up just staring at the halftime show and didn’t even realize how I looked until someone said, “Umm, Kelly, do you like Bruno Mars?” I was mesmerized!
Amazing! haha I love the Valentine’s …so cute!
Meryl Streep is the best!! Thanks for the link, loved it.
There are two things that bum me out each week. Any time I open my Instagram and there is not a new photo of BevCooks twinsies and when I get to the end of your Tuesday Things posts. I am pretty sure I should be concerned by this dependence on imaginary internet friends. . . but anyway, the point is I love these posts. Thanks for sharing :)
Oh my gosh, I totally wish Pinterest had been around when I got married! I was super young and had no idea what i was doing (or what I COULD do). Our parents basically planned it and it was the ugliest thing ever. Good thing I’m just happy to be married to my man!
OMG – I was totally the same with the Superbowl. Not a huge football fan, I couldn’t understand why everyone thought it was the most boring game ever; I loved it cause I wasn’t having a heart attack.
Total cabin-fever-hibernation-mode over here too. Spiced nuts, sheppards pie, baked chicken, brownies, smashed potatoes, and of course, ice cream- cause when it snows a foot AND is minus a billion everyone needs ice cream, right? Made sure to pick up all the goods for caesar brussels sprouts salad before I get snowed in….again.
Sorry about the snow but sounds like a good idea to bake some comfort food. And yes, Laura’s eggs were the most perfect soft boiled eggs I think I’ve ever seen!
I loved the half-time show. Bruno Mars is fan-freaking-tastic. One of the funniest tweets I saw during the show was calling him “Boyoncé”. Probably the greatest compliment a male performer (or any male for that matter) can receive.
Love the heart plates!! We’re in the middle of buying a house and going through all our things to reorganize, so I’ve been trying sooooo hard to avoid all the cute vday stuff at Target….I’ll probably get sucked in soon though!
I made funfetti cookies this weekend too! Though I used this recipe instead of making the box mix ones: http://tastykitchen.com/blog/2012/05/funfetti-cookies/ Only cuz, um, no cake mix in the house. And I sure as hell wasn’t going outside. I’m sure you of all people can appreciate that kind of awesome laziness.
Meryl Streep is the best! Love this video! What is it about cold weather that makes me crave baked goods???
I love heart plates this time of year!

Crumbs & Curls
On the phone books: we had TWO delivered in one day last week. TWO.
Whyyyyyyyy? We aren’t even going to use one. Why would they give us two? It is just a waste of paper!
I’m with ya on getting married before pinterest really took off. The wedding ideas are out of control good!
My husband feels the same way about phone books!! Every time we get them he gets SO annoyed. he throws them out and finds them to be such a waste of paper (which they kind of are! Probably not the most eco friendly thing!)
I watched that Budweiser commercial with the puppy and horse about 15 times in a row. And I almost cried (happy tears) .
Also, also!!! I wish someone could just look at my Pinterest (secret) wedding boards and just plan everything…without me doing any work. That would be lovely :)
xo!!
I love love love love good reads :) lets be friends on it !
I am in love with that plate!
Gosh I freaking love Meryl!!!
I adore Meryl Streep. I had to share this and immediately summon my girlfriends for a night of It’s Complicated and chocolate croissants (qwah-sonts as she so eloquently says).
Now on to Girls. I just spent $38 this weekend on the seasons from Amazon. I might even soon purchase HBO just to get the latest episodes. I love Marnie’s dress at the dinner party in season 3 episode 1 where she says Charlie broke up with her after she got the ingredients for grilled pizzas ( I died at that part. I also admit I went to Trader Joe’s and bought the ingredients for grilled pizzas the next day).
I did see an interview though that said Hannah’s 25th birthday was supposed to indicate that dressing and acting like that is no longer “cute” and I expect to see an awkward change in the future. Gosh I love her. Have you seen Tiny Furniture?
We use the phone books at work to prop up our computers – that’s still using them, right??? Hehehe!

Have you tried paperbackswap.com? you put your books online, people request them, you mail then get points to get books from other people. It’s awesome!
I was also going to recommend paperbackswap.com. I have been using it for years and it’s been a great way to keep my bookshelves in check, keep books for longer than the library lets me (or keeping them forever, if I choose), and look at the cool map to see where all my books have come from/gone to because I’m a nerd like that. You can also buy books in their marketplace but I stick to the swap part of the site.
Also with Goodreads, there’s a section where you can sign up to win free copies of books with the promise that you’ll read and review them. Pretty cool way to discover authors you may otherwise overlook or snag a copy of your favorite author’s latest novel.
My husband prints telephone books. It’s his livelihood, as it is many others. That ‘s something many people forget. Support the printing industry and use your telephone books.
Regarding #8: I am 51 11/12 and am still pretty old-school. I keep a copy of the local Yellow Pages in the house. I find it is a good resource to shop locally! I’ve never trusted the internet to give me the “whole story” so the YP gives me a good picture as to what is local to me. BTW, love yr blog.
Thanks,
Paul
Yes on that plate, Bruno Mars, and Nashville. (Hey I live here). Don’t watch Girls for the the reason you mention. Inappropriate. What’s with women these days? Confused? Perhaps. Have a good week. It’s Wednesday. We get Connie tonight.
Enjoyed your Tuesday Things. I actually gave away the Beauty and the Beast Valentines…sometimes in the 90s.
And I loathe phone books. I’ve actually put our names on the “don’t give us a phone book” list. In this day and age I don’t now ANYBODY who uses a phone book. I cannot fathom why they are still producing them AND it seems like a waste of paper. ;) {Steps off her soapbox.} Yeah, I have phone book issues. :)
Yay! You joined Goodreads!! :D
Yes to Bruno Mars. I read a commentary somewhere comparing him to Beyonce last year and citing his lack of energy. WHAT? I thought he was amazing and appreciated that he did it with his clothes on and no twerking was required. You might be ahead of me in views but not much…loved, loved,, loved it. The game? Don’t remind. me.
It’s nice to know that I am not the only one who has a problem with Target. I feel like I should just hand them my wallet as soon as I walk through the door!
Every time I see a phone book, I think about how it was used for when I got my hair cut when I was younger…I was too short! What a glorious day it was when they no longer had to pull out the phone books :)
Love the plates! I would definitely use them.
I had a Pinterest board for my wedding…it didn’t end up looking anything like it.
Those plates are so presh! I joined goodreads a ways back and do not keep up with it. I like to share what I’m reading on my blog, but I just don’t really think to update goodreads for some reason. I joined it, did nothing with it, then one day felt inspired to update what I’d read, then promptly gave up on it again. Unless you read a new book like every day, you’re probably not going to keep up with it. Unless you just really strongly associate finishing a book with having to update everyone immediately.
I don’t understand how anyone only watches three shows. Since the invention of the DVR I watch tons of shows since I don’t have to watch them when they are actually on. I watch the CBS comedies on Monday night, Cake Boss, Bakery Boss, The Good Wife, Amazing Race, Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, Last Man Standing, Big Bang Theory, The Millers, Criminal Minds, Downton Abbey, Parenthood and I’m sure there are some missing. And I still have a life and do a lot of reading. All because of the DVR. I can watch that stuff late on Friday and Saturday night when I’m awake and no one else is.
I meant to also say I love Goodreads to see what all my friends are reading. I’m your friend on there now.
I have so many books and I just cannot get rid of them. We moved in September and it was clear what a ridiculous amount of books I have but they all came with us. Win!
WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT PLATE? (I assume Target? Did it say it somewhere and I spaced? I’m sorry.) i need it. Or 10 of them.
Our phone book arrived too, seriously, who uses those things? Not to mention I feel like AS SOON AS WE PICK IT UP OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, another one magically appears. It’s clearly a trick.
Here is a website that allows you to opt out of getting phone books: https://www.yellowpagesoptout.com/homepage
They are a total pet peeve of mine–I think they are the BIGGEST waste of paper & money!! I wish they were opt IN instead of OUT but hey, this is a start.
Thanks for all the great recipes and entertainment! Cheers.
