Tuesday Things.
1. I’ve decided it’s high time to incorporate real life spring break into… real life. Like can we just make it a mandatory thing every year, preferably in March?
2. As soon as I’m off the internets here, I’m going to make these peanut butter, coconut + oat banana cookies. SNACKS.
3. I’m sad that the Olympics are over but I’m happy that I can actually get into bed before midnight this week. Don’t they know that secretly inside old people have a difficult time watching ice skating at 11:30 PM without dozing off? (P.S. 27 things you’re really thinking while watching figure skating. I def laughed.)
4. Sooooo I may have crossed the bridge where I no longer need sugar or something sweet in coffee. For this, I hate myself.
5. I’d be okay never seeing another photo of feet on instagram again.
6. Last week I bought an orchid and this week I think I’ve already killed it. WAH. But are we really surprised?
7. It’s 21 degrees outside and I am losing my mind because I want to get outside and WALK. It feels like I haven’t taken a walk in ages (because, well, I haven’t) but in Jessica-speak I guess it’s only been like three months or so. Walks are my decompression time and when I can listen to and belt out my most embarrassing choices of music while the neighbors assume I need to be committed.
8. Is there a dishwasher in the universe that doesn’t take three whole hours to run? Because this is the bane of my existence. Sometimes I have to run the dishwasher two or three times a day which means it’s basically running… the entire day.
9. At this point, I practically want to write a whole separate blog about TV. I gotta say that I really like the new coupling of Marine and a certain someone (I’m trying not to spoil it since you guys want to punch me when I do) on Girls. I mean, still so much secondhand embarrassment but whatever. True Detective… I can’t even. UGH so good. I was in a depressive slump yesterday and I couldn’t figure out why until I remembered that I finished Sons of Anarchy the night before and well, yeah. Obviously. AND! We haven’t finished House of Cards yet. I know. I’m dying. I’m trying to be nice and not watch it without Eddie. Because I always blow through series without him and then nag him until he finishes because I want to discuss. So that’s that.
10. Wait one more thing: what it would be like if Friends used hashtags. BTW, I’m still turning on Friends every night before bed. STILL. Like I think I first wrote about that three years ago. Never gets old.
11. Do you plan fun things for the Oscars, like have a viewing party or what not? I want to have a party but wouldn’t that require staying up super late on a school night? (they will always be school nights.) See #3. What can I do instead?

a) I agree with you on Spring Break.
b) If you were to start a blog about TV, I would totally read it.
i agree with b) .. haha
also. feet, grosss.
Re: dishwashers– look into the Fisher and Paykel double drawer dishwashers. You can run each drawer separately, and mine take 88 minutes on the normal + eco setting.
Please do a tv post! I LOVE true detective and want to know your thoughts! None of my co-workers watch it, so I had no one to discuss it with yesterday morning.
1) Olympics are on WAY too late. I definitely fell asleep in the middle of the figure skating competition at the MOST exciting and tense parts because of course. But I miss them already, too.
2) This post made my day. Needed a quick mental break from work (already). Thank you!
The hardest part of working at a University was still working when all the students were off on spring break. Ahhhh, I need a spring break, too! Can our self-imposed spring celly be in February instead of March? I’m ready for winter to be over now. I’m combating being stuck in -11 wind chills by drinking pina colada (unspiked, waaah) smoothies for breakfast.
Secret to orchids: 2-3 ice cubes/week, give the roots room to drain & breath. Over-watering and no light were my main culprits until my mom finally helped me :)
Once it’s dead, i break off the top dried dead parts and keep it in the bathroom, with humidity and light. Water once a week and it comes back!
I’m so ready for spring! We had beautiful weather this weekend, and now it’s snowing. Such a tease.
Know what you mean about the dishwasher. I have a Kitchen Aid that takes a while to run on the normal setting, but does have a 1 hour wash setting, as well, for those times when you need the dishes done quickly. As long as nothing is too heavily soiled, it works great.
Do you have TIME to write a TV blog? I LOVE THAT IDEA AND WOULD BE YOUR FIRST READER.
ha! no. but i’m sure it would be fabulously half assed and full of sentences saying “this scene made me feel all the things!!!”
I would love your TV blog. HAHAHA! I watch Friends before bed too. My husband hated Friends before we met, but after 12 years together I have finally wore him down.
The fastest dishwasher I’ve ever seen is my parents old Bosch dishwasher — it was amazing! Luckily they installed it in their cabin rather than getting rid of it. I have an LG and it’s pretty fast!
That picture is so sprinkle, it makes me giddy! Totally going on my inspiration board! I am so looking forward to spring break! Come join me haha!
I always want to have an Oscars viewing party, but school night, too busy and have no friends to invite!
I’m so glad you’re all caught up on SOA!! Cray-cray, right? For about a month after the finale, i would randomly think to myself “I can’t believe that happened.” So heartbreaking. Also loved Girls this week. There were some actual laugh-out-loud moments in there instead of just feeling uncomfortable the whole time. I can’t decide who is more ridiculous: Hannah or Marnie. Shosh is my favorite by far – I loved how the guy thought she was on cocaine!
Speaking of hashtags and Friends: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kwq_GraOC9E. TWENTY years.
#2. So TRUE!!
#10…I’ve seen every episode (which may or may not have happened during a summer marathon in college) and I still laugh. Every. single. time.
As froo froo as my Kenmore Elite dishwasher is , it takes about 3 hrs ……BUT there is a 1 hour cycle. I miss my 25 yo washer! On the bright side I have a really nice new kitchen! Find a nice scented geranium, they flower and smell good.
Girl, I feel ya on the walks. If it would just warm up a degree or two or twenty I’d be out and about. But this cold is for the birds! Treadmill? The folks at the gym already think I need to be committed due to my Phoebe run (FREINDS reference! – GAH!).
Or FRIENDS…if I could spell.
I have all the seasons of FRIENDS on DVD and I still watch the episodes late at night. Love them!
Dear goodness. Amen to no more feet on instagram.
My cousin is in AZ and shared a picture on instagram of her and her toddler tanning at the pool. because they’re having record breaking heat right now, apparently. And i’m like…share the sunshine, toots!
Omg do a TV post! We need to discuss True Detective (i.e. who the real killer is –speculations only, of course) and Girls and OMG HOUSE OF CARDS! My boyfriend and I finished season 2 Sunday night and, let me just say, shit went down!
And now I want to do a Friends marathon…. I think I’m the only Friends fan on this planet that hasn’t seen every single episode — most, but not all. I know, shame on me.
Umm…I initially read #6 as “I bought a child” and was really confused and alarmed for a nanosecond. And YES to #9! I would totally read a blog where you write all about Girls :)
friends is my favorite show in the entire world, i can repeat basically every line. how obnoxious for the people that have to watch it with me! oh well. If you’re looking for another new show to watch, you HAVE to watch the following. obsessed is an understatement.
You’re pretty much in my head. I want a spring AND a fall break. I think we deserve a break from adulthood.
Re: orchid (trust your ag friend): bright light + misting. Do you have a window in your bathroom? They love bathrooms.
And finally, the Friends hashtag thing made me laugh out loud!
I am dying at the Buzzfeed figure skating article! Way too good. I already feel the pain of Olympic figure skating withdrawal.
I so agree about the dishwasher! It’s so hard to get all of the dishes done in a day because of it. And our “quiet” dishwasher…not so quiet.
It does feel like forever and a day since we’ve been able to go outside. Yuck!
We are hungry now with this photo! Happy week!!!

Those cupcakes look delicious!
I have an Asko dishwasher–it senses the cycle time based on how tightly loaded it is, but the longest I’ve ever seen it go is 1 hour 50 minutes, and at least 20 of that was drying time…
Please for the love of cute puppies and pink…can we not see anymore feet on any social media channels?? Even if they are pretty and painted, feet are still gross. #done :)
I discovered a delightful blogworld thing called Mac and Cheese Mania that has had me drooling all afternoon. I sure hope we’ll see an awesome Jessica recipe to drool over too!!!!
You haven’t finished House of Cards yet? Wow, you have patience:) Don’t hate me, I posted a feet picture on Instagram this week. I hope we are still friends! And if you make those cookies, save me one:) xo
i should have clarified and said BARE feet photos! now shoe photos… i love. ;)
Re: Oscars. Move to California. They’re over like, way earlier there. It’s actually really weird for me to watch the Oscars when it’s dark out now that I’m on the east coast.
Can we be friends in real life please? I’m not weird I swear. But I honest to God started watching the West Wing solely based on how much you talked about it and I’m OBSESSED, and today I was just sitting here nodding vigorously to all of these things. Dishwashers! Yes. Friends every night? YES.
I can’t believe there was no #wewereonabreak hashtag!!!! OMG, love Friends :)
I had an orchid for probably 2 weeks before I killed it. I now have a flowering cactus that is looking pretty good after 3 years. I suggest this first- baby steps. Orchids are like crabby children, so I’m told.
Orchids are lovely, but I’m the same way. No matter how hard I try, they die!
I haven’t seen the newest Girls episode yet. I think I need to stop everything and watch it now.
The Oscars? Never even knew they were coming up. That time of year again already ..wow. If it’s not on Bravo or E or FoodNetwork, I don’t see it :)
Mandatory spring break – I am so down. I just booked a spring break trip actually. Wish it was tomorrow! LOL
Three hours for a dishwasher cycle?! Holy guacamole!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dishwasher run for more than 90 minutes… what sort of crazy dishwashers do you have over there?! >.<
Surely there would be a setting for shorter cycles? Or maybe things are just different in Australia because of constant water restrictions hehe!

Friends is the BEST. Still funny, decades later. And I’m soooo with you about real life spring break in March!
p.s. I love these Crumbs posts! They always make me smile (maybe because of the use of sprinkles…..?). :)
TRUE DETECTIVE. So so so amazing. Matthew McConaughey is unreal. I can’t even think of the right words to describe how excellent this show is!
This hands down is one of the posts I most look forward to all week! Love it :)

You got me to watch House of Cards, so thank you, thank you, thank you! I’m a little bit obsessed with it now. And True Detective is the best thing on TV right now, I’m so glad it’s getting traction. If you don’t have time for a TV blog, Tumblr is a fun alternative that’s only as time-consuming as you want it to be. When I’m not working (I’m a freelancer) I spend a few hours a day there, but when I’m working I only check my dash when I need a break.
I have a Kenmore and it has a 1 hour cycle–it is all I use and it cleans great.
I miss the outdoors with this stupid weather, too. We’re getting MORE snow here later in the week. It’s like, mother nature, have you not done enough?
And I would totally read a TV-blog from you!!!
OMG, I died reading that buzzfeed. The knife foot- I was totally thinking about that in addition to all of the other things. And, my dishwasher is slow too. One hour doesn’t even seem like it is just an hour. It’s so annoying.
I love the new pairing in Girls…. I can’t stop watching the embarrassment that is that is girls
My psychotic solution for the dishwasher was to install a second one. Now they both run around the clock- it is pathetic.
I haven’t even started Girls yet this season. I am saving it for a bender.
As for the Oscars, my mom has a family dinner/party every year. The kids have to dress up, it’s mandatory. I wear sweats and drink wine :)
Well I won’t be asking you to recommend a dishwasher! I HATE the one in my new home and it makes me furious but I’m going to have to buy a replacement. I thought I needed a cool oven but I realize that a really good dishwasher maybe should have been a bigger priority. Do they even make such a thing?
I could not live without TIVO; I watch nothing at the time it’s live and I’ve always got something to watch when I can’t sleep at 3am. Which is too damn often!
Dishwasher…If you have the kind that heats the water like mine you need to first get the water running at your kitchen faucet as hot as it can go. THEN start your dishwasher. Actually you should do that no matter the dishwasher (even if it doesn’t heat it since you want hot water to wash your dishes). I have done a lot of research when my Bosch was taking FOREVER to wash dishes AND I have a cloudiness issue on my drinking glasses. I read that it takes 1 minute to heat your water 1 degree, and if you have 70 degree water and it needs to get to 150 degrees it will take 80 minutes (Just guessing degrees here). So in the winter it is probably worse with colder water. Since I started doing this it has made a HUGE difference. The cloudiness that is a different story. I am pretty sure it is a chemical reaction between the glass and the detergent. I switched detergents and that helped a lot. Only my drinking glasses get cloudy NOT my mason jars (that are made to withstand hotter temps). My drinking glasses are from the same company so….I need to switch to tempered glass OR buy new glasses every year. And switching from Electrsol to Cascade powder has helped a ton. Also I read that you only need to use ONE tablespoon of detergent. I dump my detergent into a qt mason jar and keep a tablespoon measure in it. Helps with the kids too. The article I read said that they have concentrated the dishwasher detergent so much (since removing the phosphates) but never said to use less. It also said to use only half a tablet if you use that kind -I stopped using it all together.
Hope that helps!
