March Favorites: Food + Fun.
I’m late! I’m late! But these are my favorites for the month of March, and I couldn’t not share.
These sparkly jelly beans. I don’t really care about how they taste (which is delicious, like jelly beans) but can we talk about how they LOOK? They are gorgeous and iridescent and colorful. They prettiest seasonal decor ever.
So music. When the weather warms up, I’m in super country mode. It’s just so… summery. Right now I’m loving Easton Corbin’s song Clockwork. And everything Eric Church. And all things Lady Antebellum. And I’m just moving to Nashville.
My tieks. I know I know. You have got to be super sick of hearing me ramble on and on. But guys. I wore them for HOURS while walking around D.C. two weeks ago and my feet didn’t hurt a bit. On top of that, I pretty much beat the crap out of them while walking and they still look new. Yes, there may be some other comfortable flats out there but given this is my first and only kind, I’m pretty much in love.
Smoothies with spirulina. I talked about this in my Wednesday post a few weeks ago, but these are kicking my butt. They make me feel SO good. And while I’m at it, I also may as well mention that darn Vitamix that I put off for so long. Sometimes I’ll have smoothies in the morning but more often than not I prefer them for an afternoon snack. They give me a little jolt and prevent me from snacking on all the things. I get mine from Whole Foods but you can buy it on amazon.
My smoothies almost always have coconut water, and this is by far my favorite brand. It’s actually the only one I’ll really drink anymore. I talked about it a lot last year and it’s also my go-to post yoga drink. Because I sweat like a man.
And one more related note: homemade acai bowls. These are essentially big smoothie bowls made with frozen acai puree and topped with all things delicious like fruits and nuts and coconut and junk like that. I’ve annoyingly jumped on board. As usual, I’m like three years late. If you want more deets, I’ll tell you soon.
The afterlight photo app on my iPhone. A few weeks ago when I talked about favorites, many of you mentioned this. I’ve actually had it on my phone for ages but only used it a few times. Safe to say I’m obsessed now and it’s even taking over my love for VSCOCAM.
My fit bit. Sometimes when I keep it on and do turbofire or something I almost feel like it’s cheating because I can get 6000 steps like that. But now that it’s slightly warmer and I can actually go outside for a walk, I love seeing the steps I get around my neighborhood. As a note, I have the hot pink one and within days it was filthy. I’d def recommend getting the black.
This neon Rebecca Minkoff mini mac. Yep. Something else I’ve gone on and on about for over a year. Since last March, her bags are the ONLY ones I’ve been using on a daily basis. I’ve bought a few other bags in this time frame only for that to be a complete and utter waste because I can’t stop using these. In my opinion, the mac clutch is the perfect bag for everyday. These days I am incapable of using a bag that is not cross body, and these and just incredibly comfortable and the right size. Now, this neon one is the mini mac. I don’t find that I can fit enough in it for everyday use, but I love it for a day or night out. I also won’t be using this every single day because I don’t want to destroy it. Last weekend was her friends and family sale and I couldn’t not ordered this. For real.
This scarf from Zara. Need I say more? Black, white, yellow, teal… I’m in love.
These dark chocolate pretzel crisps. I’m super annoyed that Sam’s Club carries them now because the bag is massive and I want to climb inside and take a nap.
Don’t hate me. But these jogger pants from anthropologie. I can’t even believe I got these. I tried them on a few weeks ago and hated them, but then tried them on again last weekend in two sizes up (so they were actually baggy around my thighs like they are supposed to be on normal people) and I loved them. Super comfy. The only caveat is that I think they only look good with heels. Twist my arm.
[none of this is sponsored, just like to talk about things that I discover and love. there are a few amazon affiliate links above. love love.]

OMG those jelly beans. They remind me of the gel pens from back in the day (that I totally still use and have at my desk at work. Some things you just don’t grow out of, I guess… like sparkles)
I WANT THE TIEKS SO BAD but I REFUSE to spend $200 on a pair of flats. I just can’t. That’s like the “gateway drug” of shoe buying for me…
I can’t do coconut water bc I think it tastes like gym socks… but I have not tried that brand so maybe it is less gym socky? LOL – or maybe I won’t be able to tell once I blend it into oblivion anyway….
My fiance got me a fitbit for my birthday last month and at first I was like “What do I need this for?” and now I”m OBSESSED. He will actually text me when I’m at the gym “YOU BETTER NOT BE STARING AT YOUR STEPS!” hahahahha. I can’t. It’s too much. I have the black one and it doesn’t look dirty at all, but I was thinking of picking up a pretty color too but maybe I’ll pass on account of it getting grody looking.
Oh god, chocolate covered pretzel crisps? In giant size? I can never walk into Sams again…. like, ever.
Checked out the tieks and LOVE them, but no way can I spend that on shoes. :-(
Please, please do not let Costco get those chocolate covered pretzel crisps. Or I’ll be in big trouble. Sort of like the time I bought the huge bag of brownie brittle – it was not pretty!
to keep myself from falling asleep at my desk (because just the thought of all the behind-a-month-or-more things makes me want to take a nap), i decided to throw pat benatar on my pandora. i’m in love. like, i get excited about some of the songs that come on! everything from blondie, to joan jett, heart, bon jovi, journey, the police, queen, stevie nicks….need i say more? yup, i’m an 80s baby – through and through. now i’m stuck and don’t want to change the station to anything else. oh. did i mention i even bought this tank last week? http://www.junkfoodclothing.com/catalog/product/view/id/13091 figures.
I am totally buying some Tieks next month!! Just trying to be responsible and wait until I get paid… since they are a bit of a splurge. I’ve been waffling about it but I read that a lot of women love them since they stretch to accommodate pregnancy feet. I only have one pair of shoes that aren’t pinching my toes right now, that will probably be too big after the babe arrives. I can’t decide between gold or black ones, tho!
Also, I want some of those pretzel crisps ASAP!
Go with black! I probably wear mine 3-4 times a week and after two years, they still look amazing.
I ALSO had the pink Fitbit and within days it was dirty. You can buy new bands on EBay (I got mine for $8) — so that’s a trick. I’m also getting into smoothies now for the first time and dying (not literally of course) over combining peanut butter and strawberries in one like it’s some miraculous PBJ creation I dreamt up (it’s not). Hello, delicious.
I am dying over that bag! It’s so chic!

Crumbs & Curls
I just checked out those Tieks. Wouldn’t you know I liked the most expensive pair and the NEXT most expensive pair the best. I do think I might have to get them for my birthday though. I have quite a few summer “mini-trips” that involve lots of walking but cute towns so I want to look nice too. This might be that solution!
I never even knew about those pretzels? I did just buy, and devour, a bag of the TJ’s chocolate covered popcorn. I have no idea how a quart size bag yields NINE servings though. Whoa whoops.
The tieks. Sniff. I have ordered and tried (and returned) 3 pairs. Clearly they’re not made for my feet but I wanted to love them but I was getting huge blisters just walking around my living room. I wish I could wear them!
And the R Minkoff bags. I think I need one. And Anthro, ahh, yes. There’s always another thing that grows on you that you decide you have to get, right!
YES acai bowl details!!!
So many new fun things! :) I’m excited to meet you tomorrow at GBS!
I love the shoes but I can’t wear completely flat shoes.
I want the bag in shocking pink.
Jelly beans are good.
Coconut water:
I put it in my soups, yes veggie cream (squisched) soups, when not using the coconut milk which, actually, doesn’t taste too much, just silky perfect with a je-ne-sais-quoi touch. Try the water in one of yours, you tell us what you think.
Tourlou !
I just adore that pink bag in the photo!
You have some expensive taste girl. Wish I could afford some of these things.
Exactly what I was thinking. You must be awfully rich!!!
Check this out for your fitbit!

I didn’t buy one of these bracelets, I’m trying to make it myself. I needed something to dress up my (black) fitbit and this seemed perfect!!
Oh, and I just bought this scarf – LOVE it!! http://www.francescas.com/product/toledo+tribal+scarf.do?sortby=ourPicks
It’s kind of out of the norm for me, so every time I wear it my husband sings “Indian Outlaw” by Tim McGraw at me. We’re cool.
those bracelets are so cute!
Well, thanks, now I’ve got a wish list a mile long! I want that bag, and about five pairs of tieks, and sparkly jelly beans even though I don’t particularly like jelly beans. And acai bowl details, yes please! (At least that one’s free, right?)
For anyone wiht a fitbit, how accurate do you feel the calorie burn is? I’m trying to not be so impulsive and learn a little more about them before I decide to buy one, haha.
I have the fitbit One, which is the clip on one rather than the wrist band, and it is a bit more accurate in terms of step counting because it doesn’t rely on your arms being in motion to calculate movement. I think the calorie count seems fairly accurate if you are doing things that require motion. I don’t know that it can be as accurate when doing stationary activities such as hatha yoga though. That said, I have had mine for a year and am pretty happy with it.
i’m not sure how accurate the calorie count is – i feel like it isn’t very accurate, but i also don’t pay much attention to it. i more so use my fitbit just to keep me in an active lifestyle!
Where have you been all my life??? I listen to country in all ‘seasons’ (SoCal), but summertime = constant country music. Between my friend owning tieks and your ravings, I’ve pretty much been convinced to buy some. Now I just have to pick one pair! Have you tried Frye flats? [http://www.thefryecompany.com/womens-shoes/view-all/?fq=style:ballet] When I discovered that they make flats I bought some, despite the price. Best choice of investment in flats so far. I’ll let you know how they compare once I get my tieks. .:)
i have not but… omg.
I haven’t tried Spirulina and will definitely have to. Have you tried Maca Powder? I debating adding that to my Vitamix morning smoothie =)
yes, i actually love maca! have used it for a few years.
Love
That was meant to be I love that pink bag lol

Love so many things about these favorites! I have been wanting a pair of tieks for so long. Gotta get on it.
Yes! Spirulina & I totally agree with Harmless Harvest being the best coco water out there. Have you gotten a pink one yet?! Cannot wait to hear about your adventures with acai bowls…to me..they are just…smoothies…in a bowl. So maybe you ‘ve got some sort of revelation with yours you can teach us all!
xx,

I am so intrigued by spirulina! Any tips for making it taste good? Or even just less bad? :)
I take Spirulina in pill form 3x a day…not sure if the health value is any different.
i think as long as it’s pure spirulina, then it’s still great! and amanda – i just throw mine into the smoothies with tons of frozen fruit, vanilla extract, maybe yogurt – all sorts of things.
OMG, the joggers! As of last weekend I’m officially into drop-crotch pants, which is sort of embarrassing but I’m embracing it like a champ. Check out H&M online for their “dance pants” which are nice if you want a cheaper backup pair. They’re so comfortable too!
I love the joggers- but have resisted because I’m scared. maybe going up two sizes is the answer! And obviously you wear them with heels!!
I’m OBSESSED with green smoothies. So good and I feel so great after drinking them. Also love coconut water, haven’t tried putting it in smoothies yet. I just got a Mini Mac and I love it. I don’t use it too much because it’s white and I don’t want it to get too dirty. Plus one of my cats nibbled on it -_- AND I’m def ordering Tieks next month!! Fell in love with them after seeing them on your Instagam! Can’t wait to get them!
LOVE Eric Church. If you ever get a chance, go see him in concert. He puts on an amazing show. Bonus if he is touring with Kenny Chesney :]]
Also, Spirulina? I’m intrigued.
i have seen him in concert – incredible.
Acai bowl recipe, please!
Acai bowl deets for sure!! And i’ve been taking spiraling for a while now but WHOA hold the phone, put it in my smoothies!!! Excellent idea!!!
I need to get some spirulina ASAP. Energy is just nonexistent these days for me.
Also- which Anthro do you shop at? I work at the one in Bakery Square! :)
awesome! i go to both, depends on which i’m closer to. :)
$200 for flats?!? I think I need to start blogging!!
You may have finally sold me on the Tieks.

Hi Jessica! I love your site – I love to eat the way you do, the more trashed up the better! Total non-food related question…..I’m thinking of buying a pair of Tieks. My only reserve is I wondered if after a while, do they smell, lol?
