February Favorites: Beauty.
Hi Feb! Ruary. Whomp whomp.
Real life: it’s like negative 54 degrees here and we are still hibernating. We’ve ventured out a few more times, I’ve had some work commitments out of the house and some events that required (or, well, warranted) more makeup that the nothing that I’ve been slathering on my face these last two months. I’m feeling more normal! Not totally back at it, but getting there.
I am still loving, like L O V I N G the philosophy fresh cream scent in everything. Everything! I’ve even been layering it a bit with my bond no. 9 in west side and OMG. Heavenly. Share, because I love knowing this – what is your signature scent???
The kenra blow dry spray has been great, even if I only have blown my hair dry a handful of times. It really DOES shorten blow dry time for me. And with how dry my hair has been in the cold? Macadamia deep repair masque. Every single time. Do you have a hair mask/crazy thick conditioner you love? Please tell.
On to this month’s stuff!
My skin has been CRAZY dry, like drier than usual in this freezing weather. Not to mention that sometimes I’ll run out of the house and… forget… to put on some sort of moisturizer let alone SPF. I’m really good about it at night and I’ll use some rose hip oil along with the first aid beauty cream that I love. This past month though I’ve gone back to the glam glow thirstymud hydrating mask – sometimes I’ll even just put it on my cheeks where I’m the driest and let it sit for a while. LOVE THIS STUFF. I know I’ve talked about it before but I definitely think it’s worth it.
Now let’s discuss something sad:
This is what happens when you are trying to carrying 18 thousand beauty products down the stairs to photograph. WAH. It’s the MAC prolongwear concealer that I adore – and while I often only use this in summer because my under eyes can be dry in winter, I’ve been doing something different with it: mixing it with my moisturizer in the morning for a DIY BB cream thing. I first saw that idea on youtube maybe three or four years ago and it’s awesome. I’m currently mixing it with the andalou naturals daytime cream, but I’ve mixed it with others successfully too in the past few years. Sometimes I will ever mix it with my already tinted tarte moisturizer for more coverage.
I just need a new bottle now.
I know I know I KNOW. I’ve mentioned this concealer like a million months in a row but it’s a MIRACLE WORKER! Especially for a new mom who is lucky to get two or three consecutive hours of sleep. However – this is the brightener shade, the one that is pink. I first used this one a few years ago but had since just been using the lightest shade of concealer. Well. Now I’m using this pink one and holy brightening! It’s wonderful. Some days it is all I will wear out of the house. Other days, I mix it with the lightest shade of the concealer.
So so good.
And oldie but goodie: MAC satin taupe. For some reason, this product is always a no-fail for me. On the days I’ve done a bit more with my eyes, this gives them definition while still looking natural and not like OMG-I’m-a-new-mom-and-trying-way-too-hard. I also really love how it looks on my green eyes. It’s one eyeshadow that I’ve actually gone through completely and repurchased a few times, like urban decay’s sin.
Ooooh something new. And exciting. I’ve eyed the dior healthy glow blush for awhile now and bit the bullet with a sephora giftcard after Christmas. I’m crazy over anything cool-toned pink (you know this by now) and was completely sold by the whole “healthy glow” and “look alive” claims. I am such a sucker for tarte blushes, with those and MAC being the only ones I’ve used for a few years – so I was skeptical about this. I also don’t think I have any other dior makeup aside from the rose lip gloss?
Anyhoo, long story long, this is FAB. Love it. I am very pale with pink undertones and I like how it works on my skintone. It says that it should work on all skin tones, but I’m not so sure. Have you tried this? Love it? Hate it? On a the regular, I will use this, the age rewind concealer, mascara and BROWS.
Yep yep. Done.
Here’s another thing I always talk about but I am the biggest advocate for this very overpriced lip balm. I’ve tried the dupes and can’t find anything that heals my lips like the sugar advanced therapy. The real reason I’m mentioning it AGAIN though? Because, um… Eddie is now in love with it. Like he is using up all of mine. He grabbed it one night a month or so ago when he couldn’t find his Burt’s Bees and now he is hooked. It’s often a love or hate product but… I’m a lover.
New try for me: burt’s bees lip shimmer! In strawberry, of course. Since I can’t stop kissing my baby’s chubby cheeks, I haven’t worn much lipstick. Like at all. This is easy to put on and easy to take off and falls right in to my perfect cool pink category…
I find it at Target. Of course. With everything else that I don’t need but definitely need.
Polish obsessions right now? Anything nude or pastel (I know, I’m so behind the trends), like essie’s urban jungle. Since I am pale it takes a thorough search to find a pastel that looks okay with my skin. Love this.
Also, trying to bring in summer with the formula x in danger zone. Has there ever been a more ME color?! Unfortunately I think this shade may be discontinued. What is wrong with them?
I think this is the third month in a row that I am loving on some soap and glory products. This smoothie breakfast scrub is ridiculous – it smells incredible and is so rich and luxurious for a scrub. It says that it smells like maple… but I don’t love maple and I love this scent. This is very close to my favorite tree hut sugar scrubs. It makes your shower… delicious?
Okay okay, this is new to me and I am in severe lust. A few weeks ago I asked for bubble bath recommendations. I’ve never been a bath person – ever – but we have a wonderful jacuzzi tub and combined with my lack of sleep and complete exhaustion, a bubble bath in a jet tub has sounded wonderful. I bought this origins ginger float cream bubble bath and it.is.amazing. Smells wonderful, isn’t TOO bubbly, makes the water feel soft and moisturizing and lovely.
I am now a bath convert. For sure.
And just because it’s the best for hair when you never (ahem) have time to shower: my favorite batiste! I will never stop loving it. As a refresher for how I use it with dark hair: I hold it far from my roots and spray a few times, then run my hands through my hair and scalp like crazy to distribute it. This way, it doesn’t leave a white cast. Yes, I have tried the dark hair version but it always leaves flakes on my face?
And it doesn’t smell near as good, which is the most important part of course.
You know the drill! Tell me your faves. What new things have you bought? I need to live vicariously through you. Desperately.
{as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are a few amazon affiliate links above. thank you for being here!}

Ok, I’m having a bit of a panic attack because I got a Bond #9 sample from Sephora and fell in love. I had no idea they had 5 million different scent variations! WTF?? I have no clue which one it was and my plan was to buy some when I got a gift card or some extra cash. I got so many compliments when I wore that sample and my hubs was nuts for it. Now I guess I’m going to have to smell 75 different varieties of before I find it again.
Ordinarily my go to scent is Angel by Theirry Mugler, but since I’m a Sephora addict and get samples I’m always buying new scents. Lately instead of musky, I’ve been going with florals like Chloe.
Great collection of items! I love Sugar products and Murad is the best for my skin. My go to scent is Acqua di Gioia by Armani, but I have had my eye on Tocca Cleopatra. The bottle is just so pretty and feminine. I want to have it sitting on my dresser!

My stand by scent is Chanel chance (the pink one), but I took a whiff of the Fresh Cream at sephora after you recommended it and omg… Amazing. My husband got me the perfume, lotion and body wash/bubble bath for Xmas and I have been loving it all. I moved in December and also have a big tub for the first time in years so I’m loving baths now too! I’m curious about the origins bubble bath, I got some of the lush bath bombs and… It’s kind of weird having the water turn bright pink/ orange? Or getting out and being covered in sparkles? They did smell amazing though!
Oh, and for hair the beauty protector deep conditioning treatment from birchbox has saved my dry over processed hair, and it smells ridiculously good!
My signature scent is Flower Bomb by Viktor + Rolf. LOVE it! I’m on my second bottle. It lasts me a long time because I work in healthcare and our workplace is a “scent-free zone.” Sad. On a semi-related note, I bought my husband a small sample pack of their Spice Bomb line and I think it smells amazing on him.
I just started using dry shampoo. I picked up the Not Your Mother’s brand at Target because it was only about $5. The scent is decent and it seems to work well with my hair. I have lighter hair and it’s really fine, but I have a lot of it! Not sure how it would work for darker hair shades/thicker hair.
great stuff!
Same thing happened to my MAC prolongwear concealer :( after a WEEK OF USE!
Have you tried any of the colored Fresh sugar balms? I’m currently OBSESSED with the Berry one. It’s gives such gorgeous color with the same benefits of the regular balm. And..my signature scent is Jo Malone’s Blackberry and Bay :)
Which stores carry the fresh products?
i get mine at sephora!
I tried a “fitting kit” of scents from Commodity Goods almost a year ago and fell hard for the Magnolia scent. I get comments on it ALL the time, and I love that it’s super unique. And the large bottle lasts forrrrrever – I have almost half left, and I wear it every single day.
My signature scent is Laura Mercier Vanille Gourmand mixed with Fresh Sugar Lychee. The combo smells like vacation!! I’m also loving the Illume Coconut Milk Mango perfume from Anthropologie, the rollerball comes EVERYWHERE with me!
I think you would adore the Laura Mercier bubble bath, it’s Sooo decadent! It comes with a honeycomb scoop, like those beehive looking sticks you see in fancy honey jars? You use the stick to pick up the product (consistency of honey actually) and let the running bath water from the faucet run over the stick to distribute the product. Instant heavenly scented bubbles!
That Formula X color looks amazing. I am such a sucker for polishes in the orange spectrum. Fell in love with the Bobbi Brown smoky eye mascara this month! Have you ever tried it? I may have recommended this before? but I big time love the Cococare lip balm. You can get it at CVS and on drugstore.com and some other places. They’re like $1.50 a tube and amazing. Super moisturizing, light scent, and I can still feel it on my lips when I wake up in the morning. That good. I’ve been using Avene Thermal Water every day to set my makeup because my skin is too try to use powder (just spritz lightly over face, allow to set, and then lightly dab of extra with tissue). Feels so refreshing, locks in some moisture, and sets everything. I also started sleeping with a humidifier running this winter because it’s been so dry. I have an ultrasonic one, so it’s easy to clean (no filter) and it has definitely made a difference in my quality of sleep and the dryness of my skin. Highly recommend if you’re not doing this already (can be good in baby’s room, too!).
It’s too cold here as well. We broke all the records and had the coldest month ever. Which means my skin has had better days. I think my signature scent is either Stella or J’adore. I love florals that don’t give me a headache. My prevailing problem is that a lot of perfumes give me a headache and IT ISNT FAIR! Oh well.
I’m currently loving Josie Maran whipped body butter…my savior! Josie Maran argan oil, Jurlique rose water which smells like heaven and the gel medication that keeps my rosacea at bay. Man I love that stuff.
I could use a manicure. My hangnail situation is out of control.

I bought a First Aid Beauty moisture rescue moisturizer, cream cleanser and exfoliating face pads kit around Christmastime and just finished it off this weekend. That moisturizer SAVED my skin this winter! I usually have skin flaking off during the cold weather but this totally saved me.
And I love the Glam mask too.
I need that scrub!!
Isn’t that smoothie scrub awesome? I bought it to exfoliate before applying St. Tropez self tanner (with the mitt). Needed a little pampering to beat the winter blues and I’m sick of being pale!!
my absolute favorite Burt’s Bees lip shimmer is Peony. I have gone through several tubes. I am very fair with dark hair and eyes. It is a pretty mauve
You’ve finally peaked my interest about the Age Rewind. I need to check it out! I’ve gone through so many bottles of Batiste. It is the best dry shampoo! Urban Jungle is such a pretty shade. Right now I am obsessing over every single polish in Essie’s new Spring line. It is a collaboration with Rebecca Minkoff too. Fun!
Do you know that Origins has an entire Ginger line? My mom used to loved the Ginger Souffle Whipped Body Cream, which is one of their best-selling products. They also make Ginger lotion and shampoo and body scrub and perfume and everything else, it seems. I worked at Origins for awhile, but that was years ago so I’m sure they have new products now. Definitely worth checking out if you like the ginger scent.
Also, I have to try the Batiste dry shampoo; I keep reading about how amazing it is and I don’t like my TIGI Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo. Good to know that it works with dark hair!
a few years ago I discovered Cashmere Shea lotion at Bath and Body works! Omg! it smells like warm cupcakes! I use everyday, and will wipe the bottle clean! (even tho I have 3 more bottles waiting for me to use them… details details)
Another fav is MAC retrospect eye shadow. it’s a shimmery pale gold that is great for everyday use, and combines with all colors, or works great alone for a hint of shimmeriness. :)
Always behind the times with these…my signature scent is Stella McCartney Stella(though I tried Roses de Chloe after receiving it for my birthday last month and I like that now, too). I liked UD Revolution Sheer Lipsticks recently-particularly Shame and F-Bomb-and Viva Glam Miley lipglass, much as I feel lame to admit it, is SO pretty and fun. I’d be surprised if you don’t like it, too :)

I LOVE your beauty posts! Do you have a favorite eye cream for dark circles? I’ve been using the Origins ginzing and I don’t love it. I don’t think it has really reduced my dark circles and it makes my eyes water everyday! I would love to hear your suggestions!
I know what you mean about Philsophy Fresh Cream – so so gorgeous! I love batiste tinted hairsprays, handy for covering the roots in-between visits to the hairdressers.
Nosebag NI
Had to chuckle at the foundation/base pic as I have done that so many times. Just. So. Many. Times. :p Yet there’s just something so sumptuous about a glass container…they call to me…
i love a cool pink too and my fave blush is bobbi brown pale pink if you haven’t already discovered it. i’m also in love with the new maybeliine Face Studio Master Glaze Glisten Blush Stick in pink fever. it glides on super smooth and brightens really nicely, also a cool pink. I do love the batiste dry shampoos for their scents but honestly the one that works the absolute best for me is the suave one in the gold bottle, it goes on white but blends in and completely disappears, smells good and its dirt cheap and I fly through the stuff because I have 2 kids under 3 and basically never wash my long hair. grody i know. I live for my jo malone ginger biscuit perfume (its almost gone and I could cry) so I went straight to origins and begged for a sample of this bubble bath, have yet to try it but it smells like heaven. I also loved their ginger body spray/splash, worth giving a shot. revlon color stay gel envy nail polish is all or nothing is the best neutral/white color for my pale skin and that polish stays put!

Where can I buy the smoothie breakfast scrub?
