baby favorites: 15 months.
Hi hi! Max is just shy of 15 months, but I figured… no better time to share a new round of stuff we are loving. And certainly close enough to 15 months, cue the waterworks.
This month, I categorized things to make it slightly easier. You can find other favorites here:
This is a list of some of the things we use often (most, daily!) and what I’ve been keeping track of since our last favorites post.
Also, Max says: please don’t judge my mullet/combover since my parents’ are struggling with my first hair cut. WAH.
clothing
If possible, I might be into baby fashion more right now than my own fashion. WHO AM I. Ugh.
h & m slim jeans. I’ve probably received more questions on the jeans Max wears than anything else! We absolutely lovely these h & m slim jeans – they are so stretchy and comfy. Um, and he lives in them. We have them in three colors and… he can still fit into the 4-6 month size. He is a peanut. Also, most 9 and 12 month pants are HUGE on him, so we are wearing the heck out of these until he grows into his new pants. I also bought them in a size up because we’re obsessed.
patagonia coat. Since Max is on the teenier side, I’ve had SUCH a time finding him a comfortable, versatile winter coat that doesn’t swallow him whole. I bit the bullet for this Patagonia (in hopes of passing it down in the future) and it is fabulous. It fits perfectly, snugly and the hood stays up. Ideal in our freezing winter weather. Also, can we please discuss the cold weather coat + car seat issue? If you live in the suburbs that require driving everywhere, what do you do in the winter? We are still really active and go somewhere every day if possible, sometimes a few places. But you’re not supposed to wear the coat in the car seat. I get the whole “bundle them up and put them under a blanket” but 1. bundling him up is too many clothes for the car seat and 2. he is old enough to throw the blanket off. So I put him in his regular outfit. We get to our destination. I get in the back seat, remove him from the car seat and put his coat on. We go do our thing. Get back in the back seat. Remove coat. Back into car seat. Is this the only way if you live in a frigid, must-drive area? Halp me.
hanna anderson sleeper pj’s: this is a repeat but we love the PJs the most! out of all the others. it’s nice that the feet are out so he can walk around (we certainly have our PJ days… ) and better than the separates that ride up over his belly. Love them!
zara leggings: another repeat, but oh ma gosh. Max LIVES in these. We have every pair imaginable. I have to thank Cindy for sending me a pair back when Max was born – I would never know how wonderful they are if it weren’t for her! If Max isn’t in his h&m jeans, he is in these.
diapers, wipes, etc
Pretty simple here – just the basics. We still use the honest shampoo and body wash, along with the healing balm on his skin if needed.
honest overnight diapers. We’ve used honest since Max was in size 1 diapers. They didn’t work as newborn diapers for us, but after size 1 they have been wonderful. He’s never had a diaper rash (this is shocking to me, I guess I just assumed all babies got diaper rashes?) and they very rarely leak. However, sometimes first thing in the morning, right before he wakes up, they leak because they are so heavy. So I added a pack of overnights to our bundle last month and we have loved them.
water wipes. while we love the honest diapers, we really don’t like the honest wipes. They are so dry. They just are so… blah. Water wipes are lifesavers. We use them for EVERYTHING.
honest toothpaste. This is the only toothpaste we’ve tried so far, but Max seems to love it! Or should I say, it doesn’t bother him at all.
food & accessories
We did baby led weaning with Max at six months, so he has been eating whole finger foods since then. He eats pretty much everything I give him and has tasted every flavor and texture imaginable so far. We haven’t reached the picky toddler stage yet! Right now, I still put food on his high chair tray. If I give him a plate, he just wants to throw the plate after a few minutes. We are just starting to introduce baby silverware, so recommendations please!
tommee tippee insulated straw cup. I know I know, there is currently a huuuuge issue on mold and the tommee tippee sippy cups. I know! I’ve checked these straw cups and mine are fine so far. No mold. We love these. We started using them back in November and they are the cup that taught Max how to use a straw. They don’t leak. He loves drinking from them. I even put smoothies in them.
munchkin 360 cup. This is another cup we introduced in December, just as another option. Max also loves drinking from these. We alternate between one of these and a straw cup (or one of each, ha), as he is totally off sippy cups.
earth’s best organic blueberry pancakes. When we first started baby led weaning, I would make a bunch of baby pancakes once or twice and week for Max to snack on. I still do that sometimes. I love that he is eating all food, but it’s also easy for me to do because I’m already in the kitchen a bunch, you know? I don’t want to sound pretentious like *oh my baby only eats things I cook!* While that is mostly the case due to our situation, there are a few convenience foods we’ve tried and loved. These are one of them! They are so simple, delicious (um, Eddie and I have tasted many) and sometimes I’ll make a baby pancake PB and J sandwich. He LOVES them.
ella’s kitchen nibbly fingers: I always stash a few of these “baby granola bars” in my bag when we are gone for hours. Max is a great shopper so far and a great stroller rider. He gets so excited to eat one of these!
stonyfield whole milk yogurt pouches. You might remember that Max has had zero interest in purees or pouches… but he has always loved yogurt. I’ve started giving him a few of these whole milk yogurt pouches and he adores them. They are great since he is self fed – he won’t take anything off a spoon from us unless it’s like ice cream, of course. He sucks them down like a champ. And bonus toy: he loves screwing the top on and off.
toys
A few of our favorites below, and by that I mean “actual” toys, and not remote controls, stand mixer attachments, iphones, whisks, colanders, wooden spoons, lip balms, brown paper bags, shoes or anything else that Max would rather play with. Books in general are a huge favorite, and if there are books around he will usually pick them up and read through them a few times. Or bring them to us to read, which is adorable.
babies r us toy box. Eddie was set on getting a “nice” toy box from pottery barn, but the minute I saw this one with the book shelves on the side, I was sold. I love that the books can always be on display for Max to grab, without having to be IN the box. Makes me hope he will reach for books first. (< book nerd forever.) This is also a great size. Not too long. And completely safe for fingertips.
mega bloks first building legos. Max is obsessed. Not only does he love building with these, he loves dragging around the bag, dumping out all the blocks and putting them all back in the bag.
melissa and doug standard blocks. Eddie and Max build these all the time. He loves simple holding these blocks. They are super sturdy and nice. But heavy. So be careful!
janod pyramid family blocks. This is a fairly new gift I bought Max for Valentine’s day, but has quickly become THEE favorite. He loves stacking these and having other people stack them, then knocking them down like a wild man. I found mine at Barnes and Noble. They have the BEST toys.
9 cube block puzzle. I feel like this should have a disclaimer, because these are cardboard. So that means by this point, pretty much all of the paper is peeling off. But Max ADORES these blocks. I swear he is always carrying one of them around.
fisher price little people super friends, Not sure I’m including this for Eddie or Max, but these are a definite favorite. He loves every version that the fisher price little people come in, but these super heroes are the ones he and Eddie play with every single day. And most of the day, you can find Max carrying around one of two. He flips over them.
fisher price crawl around car. There is not much that Max will sit still for these days, but this car. Oh this car! He sits inside and plays so nicely. He also loves… climbing over it. In fact, I think he climbs in and out maybe more than he sits inside.
happy kids TV app. We downloaded this app on Apple TV and it’s full of nursery rhymes and songs. It’s kind of a parent’s worst nightmare (you will be singing these in the middle of the night while your mind is racing) but Max gets SO giddy when we put the songs on. He loves to dance and sing along. He even mimics some of the dances now. Eeeep.

Aww, he’s growing up! Adorable. As for silverware, we found we (and our kids) liked these the best: http://preview.tinyurl.com/jdanrzv. Since they looked and felt like the regular utensils, it was easy to transition them. When you’re ready to teach him to drink from a regular cup, these are awesome:Â http://tinyurl.com/h4yndd6. One warning, the will spill if dropped on the floor, and it may crack if it hits just right. But, they really do work; my youngest has been drinking out of a regular cup since age 2. Clearly, my theme has been to train them to use the stuff we use so I have less “baby” stuff around the house. Just don’t look in my basement…(seriously, what do I do with all this STUFF?)
Ahhh he’s getting so big! I love these posts, I’ve commented before but my little guy Henry was born on the same day (I think? If not on the same day, then super close) as Max so I really like hearing what you guys are liking. Especially because I feel like I can trust your recommendations because it seems like we have similar taste as a lot of our current favorites are on this list :) (Plus your makeup recs are always spot on so I know you’re a mama after my own heart!) We love love love the Hanna Andersson PJs too (and I feel the same way about 2 piece PJs, I hate how his stomach always ends up hanging out!) and I think they’re just the best! I’ll have to try those H&M jeans, I’ve seen them at the store and they look super cute! (He has another pair of non-jean pants from H&M and they seem like they run super big as well) I’m also a big fan of Honest Diapers but not the wipes so I’m glad to know I’m not the only person that feels that way! Although I have to admit, I’ve recently branched out and tried Huggies…and Henry has actually been fine with it. We’ve always used Honest since the beginning and I love that they’re unscented and natural (and the prints totally get me) but we were having the same issue with them being not absorbent enough for nighttime. I saw that Honest had recently come out with overnights but decided to risk it and try a less pricey option and go with the Huggies overnights…and he’s been totally fine! No diaper rash and they do a great job! I’m still going to keep using Honest primarily but it’s nice to know that his bum is not as sensitive as I was making it out to be…ha! (Especially if we’re traveling and I can’t always get the Honest diapers!) Thanks again for sharing, isn’t this age just so so fun? I am LOVING it :)
we’ve done some huggies too! i have a friend who is just amazing and literally every time she sees me, gives me a pack of diapers. it’s ridiculously thoughtful. and she’s a huggies girl!Â
We use car seat ponchos for the car – love them and get so many comments on them. My mom made ours (if you know someone who sews, you can google an easy pattern) but you can probably find them at craft shows or on etsy. So much easier than coats! Zeke still uses his at age 3 :)
thanks megan!! this is great.Â
Baby jeans are the most adorable thing. My little is a bit on the chubbier size, especially her thighs we are always sizing up.Â
hey girl Love the post! Great tips! I just can’t wait to have kids!Â
Utensils: the $2 set from IKEA is the best! The fork actually grips onto food and the spoon is a great size to hold actual liquid unlike some of the teeny baby spoons. We actually love the whole collection of plates, bowls and cups too.
P.S. our kiddos are same age. We did BLW too but this girl is something else. She likes to be spoon (fork) fed and is especially picky when teething. Her big sister was a beast and ate everything so we are continually perplexed! Haha
max definitely eats less when teething, and i’m still nursing so that is ALLLLL he wants to do when teething.Â
I recently bought Wigeon fleece jackets for my boys (2 and 4) for the car and they are life changing!!! They’re super easy to put on, heavy enough to keep them warm (but not too bulky for the car seat), and they’re adorable (that little pointed hood!). Seriously worth every penny and will eliminate the endless battle of getting the bulky winter coat on and off. You can get them off Amazon. They run big. Hope that helps! http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NT5B0VQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1457009818&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=wigeon&dpPl=1&dpID=41gZlTUdm9L&ref=plSrch
If you are into stylish baby boy/little boy clothes you need to check out my friend’s shop – she finds THE COOLEST trendy & modern clothes for boys. She has a brick and mortar store but also sells online:Â

Also: your baby is gorgeous. Even with a comb-over.
oh my gosh!!! i want EVERYTHING on that site!Â
Super cute Jessica! He’s a doll, and I love how much fun you two have together! Just chiming in on the coat issue – I live in TX so I don’t know if I have *any* credibility at all with winter fixes! But for those days it was cold enough for a coat, but we were just running errands, so like literally I would spend 5 minutes putting on the coat after getting baby out of the seat, we spend 45 seconds walking to the store, and then the coat comes off in the store……I wore my big puffy coat, and I would just grab the baby, snuggle him to me, and wrap my coat around him and me for the walk in. So kind of like I was wearing him and had my coat around us both. So in essence, no coat for baby for those kinds of trips. Saved soooo much time! Some of my friends stuck with fleece outerwear because it’s compacted enough to be in the carseat. Hope you find a fix that works! Coats are such a hassle.
We’re in Mass, so it may not get as cold here but we just get fleece jackets (columbia/northface) for wearing in the car and everywhere. Â My sons wears his hats and mittens too. I start the car and then take him out. Â He’s never complained that he was cold. We have winter coats for playing outside or if we’ll be outside for longer, but most times in the winter we’re just going in and out pretty quickly.
this is kind of what i’ve been doing lately – just doing a north face fleece with a hood that he got for his bday. it’s working pretty well since it’s the cold is coming to an end. hopefully!Â
Hi! Great post! My babe is nearly 5 months and I’m interested in learning about BLW. I remember you mentioned a good resource to learn more, but cant seem to find it now. Can you please share again? Thank you!Â
hi vicki! yes, the general baby led weaning book is good, but i loved this one from brittany at a healthy slice of life. it’s great!

Thank you so much!Â
My daughter wears a Carter’s windbreaker in her carseat – it’s thin enough to fit safely in the seat, but keeps her warm enough when we’re just running errands — and since it’s waterproof with a hood, it keeps her dry if it’s raining. If we’re going to be outside for any length of time, I switch her into her puffy coat and then take it off when we get back in the car. I also have several friends who swear by carseat ponchos!
For utensils, Gerber Graduates Kiddie forks and spoons are great – they’re stainless steel with silicone coated handles. Bonus, they’re relatively cheap and everywhere sells them (BRU, Target, my grocery store). I’m also not a fan of eating with plastic utensils or dishes (especially with hot food), so these are great.Â
When you get to needing kid dishes, I LOVE our stainless steel set from Untangled Living – it’s a plate, cup, small bowl, and silverware. Again, no plastic, it can all go in the dishwasher, and when it ends up on the floor, it’s not broken.Â
Another great alternative for kid dishes are a set of small wooden salad bowls. I had a set from Crate and Barrel that hubs and I never used, so those became kid dishes. Only problem is they can’t go in the dishwasher and can’t sit with water/wet in them without damaging the bowls (no leaving a spaghetti bowl to soak in the kitchen for a half hour). After 2 kids using them, we only have 1 of the 4 left – the other three split in two when they hit the tile floor from their highchair.Â
Wood blocks- I haven’t had luck with M&D wooden toys. Everyone raves about them, but the painted ones I find the paint chips off a lot and the plain wood ones get beat up after little use. I LOVE our Plan Toys construction set (we have 2 of the 50 piece sets – face it, you can’t build anything with 50 blocks). We’ve had them for 3 years, our two kids + friends have built too many towers to count, our second kid used them as teethers, and they still look brand new. I’ve LOVED all of our Plan Toys – their dancing alligator is a favorite of our kids and my nieces.
Try out the Columbia fleece bunting – it’s like if they had on a fleece sweatshirt. It’s not too bulky – works great for NE cold weather.

We live in MN – it’s cold! And I put my kiddos in the car with out a jacket and just have to put it on whenever we get to where we are going. For daycare drop off – I do leave the jacket on, but unzip it all the way and pull it through the straps. Otherwise, the kids don’t wear jackets in the car. I always leave blankets in the car, just in case too.
Hey! So the coat/car seat issue- my kids are 18 years, 16 years, 2 years and seven months. They all have worn their coats or snowsuits in their car seats and lived. I promise. I’m sure someone somewhere will be upset about that. But it was worked out just fine. Good luck!
If you love the MegaBlocks I reccommend getting one of these wagons

My daughter is 14 months and loves taking all the blocks out and putting them all back in and then dragging this to another corner and repeating :)
I like the replay recycled silverware, and plates when he’s ready! Try the reflo cup for training to a regular cup. I like it better than the 360 bc you don’t have to suck. Also so cute that he fits into those tiny jeans. He’s a cutie!!
i love reading these posts. fox is a huge fan of yogurt, too, and we were getting those same pouches… but he sucked them down so fast and wanted a couple each morning and that got so dang expensive. so we switched to buying kefir and putting it in a straw cup for him every morning, wayyy cheaper. now i just wish costco had kefir. i l-o-v-e zara trousers. they are the best. i wish fox could wear skinny jeans… haha.. he is such a chub. love your little boy! oh and you will be surprised how much you adore him after a haircut, i resisted forever and now i am wondering why i waited.. so handsome!
So useful for me- new mom. Thank you so much for your sharing this post
Hi there! Such a cutie you two have. Couldn’t help but comment when you mentioned sleep issues because I just finished a major eye opening book called ‘Bringing up Bebe’ by Pamela Druckerman, and she mentions how the french sleep train ( as well as everything else). And whenever I read a good book I tend to run around telling people to read it:)
Anyway, love your blog and recipes.

My son is 11 months so a few behind yours but still wakes several times a night and i my exhaustion beyond exhausted especially with the early rising of my 3 year old too. What are you having to do when he wakes? I’m still nursing and I nurse him back to sleep every time. I know he doesn’t need to be doing that but can’t stand the thought of making him cry for hours if i don’t.
