August Favorites: Beauty.
Happy end of August!
How what whyyy. That’s impossible.
I’ll quit being cliche early so we can talk about our favorite things! Be a bad example. Tell me what you’re loving.
There was about a week and a half where I barely wore makeup (or none at all – like at all) while on vacation, so I just have a few favorites here for the month. I haven’t been drying my hair, but from being in the sun it can feel a little straw-like at times and I am telling you that this It’s a 10 spray is SAVING it. It is so much healthier than it has been. I don’t know why I didn’t love this as much a few years ago. I do use it sparingly, maybe twice a week. Also!! These skyn eye gels – still adoring. I’ve been in a major face mask mood this month. Also again, Eddie and I BOTH keep using our voxy voyage bags when traveling. It’s kind of funny – he might be more obsessed than I am. He took them to Europe!
K on to this month’s faves…
Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips lipstick in Liv It Up. My friend Natalie bought one of these and I was like… I have to have this. It’s so pretty. The scent is wonderful. The shape is awesome. I want more shades for fall. Liv It Up sort of reminds me of MAC Creme Cup (a huge fave of mine) but a little more pink and a little more matte.
Clarins Instant Light Lip perfector. I’ve wanted this for a few years and just never bit the bullet. First, it smells (and tastes) like cake. Second, it’s super moisturizing. Third, I love the glossy pink natural color. It’s perfect for a no-makeup makeup look.
Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Sunilght. I seriously cannot get enough of these. This is a repeat but I’ve really been loving a different color this month since I’m sliiiightly more tan from being on vacation. The sunlight shade is glowy tan in a bottle. These are so perfect for face and body.
RMA makeup remover wipes. LOVE THESE. Oh my gosh. They are wipes made with only coconut oil. I realize that sounds ridiculous since I could just use regular coconut oil (and sometimes do), but the only time I use wipes is when I can’t bear to do anything else, and that includes dipping my fingers in a jar of coconut oil. These are incredible. They are individually wrapped. Perfect for traveling or keeping in your purse. AND moisturizing!
Essie Gel Couture Polish in Make the Cut. I am still really loving this polish! And this shade is such a great transition color into fall.
Sol De Janiero Bum Bum Cream. AHHHH. I cannot take how much I adore this. I know this is also a repeat but the scent! The shimmer! The texture! It’s my favorite thing. I’m afraid it’s too summery to wear into fall (I’m weird about certain scents and like to keep them seasonal to bring back nostalgic memories – am I nuts?) so I’m using it after every single time I shower. I also bought a little travel size one for vacation and it’s a great size.
The Estee Edit Flash Illuminator in Spot Light. Again… yes… I need another cream highlight like I need a hole in the head. But I just can’t resist. UGHH. The texture of this is awesome. It’s obviously super light and white and while it works on my skintone now, it will REALLY work come winter. Sometimes I just use concealer and this on my cheekbones if I’m really in a rush.
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon. My eyes nearly exploded out of my head when I saw this existed. I ordered the Nirvana Black a few years ago when it was out early for preorder and have been a huge fan ever since. Anything warm, vanilla, musky and cologne-like sells me. Total perfume junkie. So bourbon? HELLO. I’m there.
That’s it! I’m dying to try the Farmacy honey potion mask and I’m sure I’ll want a few things for fall, but I might try to wait it out for the VIB sale in November. It’s only, like, two months away (whhhaaaat) so I think that’s doable. What are you loving right now?!
{as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are a few amazon affiliate links above. thank you for being here!}

I love Nirvana Black and warm, vanilla-y scents, too — what else do you suggest?!
ooooh let me think. i love Nest Midnight Fleur, Bond No 9 West Side, anything by La Vanilla, Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme, Prada Amber and Burberry Brit are a few!
Try Alien by Thierry Mugler too, and the Atlier Cologne Vanilla (can’t recall the proper name!)
I tried the Nirvana Bourbon and wasn’t a huge fan, but THEN I sprayed the Nirvana Rose on top of the Bourbon scent and my mind is blown! Someone tell me why I now need to purchase TWO fragrances to get this perfect scent. Ugh!
ahhh seriously? so i really don’t like floral scents (and they make me sneeze/give me a headache) so I didn’t even smell the rose one. i need to try that!
Dior came out with a new lip glow that’s different from the usual lip glow because it’s a gloss! it’s so super smooth and not sticky. and also, it’s extremely hydrating! love it.
i’ve seen it but haven’t tried yet!! need to get it.
I have been loving the new ABH stick foundation! It is so surprisingly good!! And I feel you on the Cover FX drops…I love them but have been using the bronzer shades the most. I need that bum bum cream!! Wish I would have gotten it earlier in the summer.
oh my gosh i want to try that foundation so badly!
Where can I buy the Charlotte Tilburry lipstick?
i got mine at nordstrom!
I may be one of your older readers (in my 50s), but I am a makeup and skincare junky. People say I have no wrinkles and I credit heredity and my skin care regimen for that. I’ve tried practically every cleanser known to man in every price range, but what does the trick beautifully is the Simple Foaming Cleanser. I then use a clarifying lotion – my choice right now is Boots No. 7 for dry skin, then some Micellar water, then my all-time favorite beauty product, which is Clarins Double Serum – a true miracle product. After a couple of minutes I top it with one of my Chanel facial moisturizers like Le Lift Creme Riche at night (amazing) or Le Blanc during the day. Eye cream choice swings from Le Lift to any deep thick and creamy one like Clarins. For eye makeup I use Chanel mostly because the colors stay on all day and do not ever crease, and Laura Mercier eye liner pencils. I probably own almost every eye shadow palette out there, but continue to come back to Chanel eye shadows. They look so very different on then in the store, so you must try it before you buy it. The best foundation I’ve ever found (and I’m probably at #75) is Boots No.7 Lift and Luminate in Cool Vanilla. Try this foundation if you like light but perfect coverage. It knocked my socks off for a drugstore brand – I got it at Walgreens. Concealer is Chanel and/or Bobbi Brown’s new little tub of Corrector and then her concealer. If I use an eye primer, it’s Laura Mercier every time. Mascara is only ever Clinique’s High Gloss in Black. Sounds like a lot, but I do my makeup in ten minutes flat and I do it very naturally. People never say “I love your makeup,” but rather “Your skin looks great.” My daughter gave me a bronzer from Make Up For Ever, and t’s awesome. My favorite scent is Eau des Jardins by Clarins, but am looking forward to trying some Hermes scents. Any suggestions?
rachel!! i LOVE this rundown – thank you so much for sharing! i have never tried any Hermes scents but i want to try the amber narguile. it’s so pricey though and i don’t have a Hermes near me – and i’m afraid to buy it online!
I really want to try the Cover FX Drops, they look seriously stunning!

they are amazing!
Oooooh, I love Elizabeth James Nirvana Black! I’m sure I will love Bourbon. YES! I like Charlotte Tilbury lipstick a lot. I have to check out that shade.
I’m OBSESSED with the Becca Backlight Priming Filter. It literally makes my skin glow and I’ve been getting constant compliments since using it. It’s a highlighter that doesn’t just make your face look shimmery. I highly recommend it!

i usually don’t use a primer, but i am dying to try this one!
I never used primer either, but this has actually replaced the tinted moisturizer I had been using. You gotta try it!
Yes, this is amazing. I love it. You can totally get away with just this and some concealer rather than a tinted moisturizing or foundation. Also, the Hourglass Ambient Light Correcting Primer in Dim Light is another perfect tinted moisturizer replacement. However, I think the Becca will remain my go to!
ok i must be doign something wrong. this primer does nothing for me !
In the Clarins lip perfector, what shade did you get? I need that in my life!
I got 05 – Candy Shimmer!
I need the Cover Fx Enhancer Drops in my life. Ooo I have a sample of the bum bum cream. Going on vacation this weekend, so I’ll give it a try. I always enjoy reading your beauty favorites.

thanks lupe!
I’m hopeful you can get these in the US – but the Canadian brand NudeStix is unbelievable for lip colour & easy face makeup. So easy, long wearing, moisturizing and portable. Everything I’ve tried (lips, sculpting, eye shadow, glossing stick..ok I might have a problem) is seriously incredible.
oooh i need to try!
Ok, last month I bought that bum bum cream, and I gotta tell you – it’s my FAVE ever, like ever ever. It smells SO GOOD and has the slightest shimmer, like you don’t eve know it’s there, except if you’re in the sun and you see it a little. Legit I feel so grateful for the amazing suggestion. It is now a staple and I don’t think I could live without it.
AND those ESSIE gel polishes – total game changer. Regular nail polish (of which I have an obscene collection) lasts two-three days, tops. The Essie gel ones, I’m still wearing it and this is week two. CRAZY! I’m now off to purchase more colors, and I’m going to try those makeup remover wipes, they sound amazing.
Thank you so much for sharing your faves and introducing me to some of my all time fave beauty products!!!
I’m looking for a good night repair eye cream to help with dark circles/bags. #sleepless10monthold. Any suggestions?
I sucked it up and ordered Maskcara Beauty’s Highlight/Contour foundation palette and her double sided foundation brush. How did I live without this for so long? It is truly fantastic. Her highlighter (pearl) is so wonderful, and the cream blush is highly pigmented. It makes me look like I have perfect lighting all the time, even at the office under gross florescent lights. The foundation looks and feels like real skin, but has just enough coverage.Â
I love the Essie gel couture polishes too and will have to try that shade.Â
Perricone MD’s no-blush-blush and no-highlighter-highlighters are also my desert island can’t live with out items.Â
I’m dying to try the Cover FX highlight drop thingys, but I’m waiting til Nov for F&F. I haaaate to wait that long because I’ve been hearing about them for weeks, but dang, the price.
I only just learned of the two new Elizabeth & James scents and I cannot wait to get my hands on them!!!
i LOVE nirvana bourbon. i actually had a nice chat with the fragrance guy at a sephora and we fangirled over the scents. i wish i liked the rose because i want that bottle so bad. i think its funny reading some of the reviews online of the bourbon one because people rate it low for smelling manly but sephora fragrance guy told me they purposefully didn’t put for him or for her on the bottle to keep it androgynous  which i love.Â
i need to try this bum bum cream !!! also would like to try the cover fx drops but dont know the color to select. this month i’ve been looking for an easy cream eye shadow to replace old benefit ones i used to like. needs to be easy to blend and never crease. i have just been using marc jacobs twinkle sticks the past 2 days and really like them. im hoping i found a winner there. ive been using the kenra blow dry spray a lot before drying to try to repair my hair. i hate when it feels straw like. mine does especially second day hair. even when i oil it up etc still the ends are straw. ick. other than that i just took off my gel nailpolish ive had for a while and my nails are so thin and breaky. and i hate that regular polish lasts 2 days on me. i miss the 2 week gel ! but maybe i will try the sally hansen when they get a bit stronger. loving sunday riley blue night oil and the good genes though i sorta dont think either are having much effect on my brown spots/old acne marks like i wish they would. i tried a few vitamin c’s and all were fails for me. to harsh for my skin. i’ve been loving marc jacobs mod noir perfume lately as well. that was all super random a few thinks i like a few things i dont…but thats how the month went for me !

Hey, Jessica. First, I love that you do this, and I REALLY love that you note that these are all products you buy yourself, and that the endorsements are authentic. I have great respect for integrity, and you display it in a big way.
Second, I came across this product, and….I would love if you would test it cause I’m intrigued but would never use it!! It’s this….http://www.sephora.com/lip-flip-shade-transformer-P406017 (Estee Lauder Lip Flip, in case the link doesn’t work.) Have you seen these?? Total gimmick? Or best thing ever??
Apologies if you’ve gotten to them before.
Hope you’re enjoying the long weekend!
Sarah
