September Favorites: Beauty.
Heeeeeey!
I’ll skip the part about WHATHOWWHY it’s already October, but seriously, it’s the most fun time for makeup right? I traveled a bit this month and my go-to’s were: those rms coconut oil face wipes I mentioned last month, the kenra blow dry spray along with the it’s a 10 spray, and I tried the moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner in travel sizes. Not sure if I’m freaking over it yet, but I’ll let you know!
To sound like a broken record, I just flip over the shades of fall when it comes to makeup. Since I have green eyes, I’ve always gravitated towards purples and berry and burgundy shades since I’m sure that 15 years ago I read in Seventeen magazine that those are the colors I should wear. And I just love them! While I didn’t break much of them out in September because it was still totally summer, they will be in full force come this week.
So! Let’s get to the faves.Â
Dr. Jart Ceramidin Body Oil. I’m usually not a huge body oil person (though I love it for my face), but tried this and am hooked. So is Eddie. I have NEVER come across an oil that so instantly absorbs into the skin, leaving no greasiness at all. I have some mild eczema patches and this cleared them up in about two (yes TWO!) days. For more dry areas, I’m putting this on first and then using lotion over top because this is more of a dry oil. I also love that this has a pump. Only downside is that it smells sort of weird, but it does not linger.
Formula X Nail Polish in Pacific Haze and Taken by Storm. These are theeee perfect fall and winter shades. Also, since formula x tends to be my favorite nail polish brand, I can’t say enough about how perfect the formula is.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. I’ve talked about this for a few years now and it saves my face, especially when traveling. I still use the Sunday Riley Tidal cream morning and night, but I often use this as well and I only take this when I travel somewhere. This is the best thing ever for my dry skin.
Hourglass Vanish Foundation Stick. Okay, so we all know that I am soooo not a foundation person. I’ve gone through more Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue than I can count. I wanted to try a stick foundation for just a little bit more coverage in places and using this beauty blender, I completely fell in love with this. It is SO smooth.I love that I don’t need to cover my entire face with it and it doesn’t look cakey at all. It actually looks BETTER as the day goes on.
And! I love it best with a beauty blender. It’s been ages since I mentioned mine, and I rarely use it with tinted moisturizer but I ALWAYS use it with any sort of foundation. I don’t know how I’d live without it!
Too Faced Born This Way Concealer. So I’ve been using this for about two months now, but only when I’m wearing a foundation or something on my skin with more coverage. I’m loving it. It doesn’t crease at all and covers up my dark circles. I wouldn’t say it’s moisturizing, but it’s not as dry as the MAC prolongwear concealer which is what I’ve used for year when I want more coverage. I still use the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind daily, but this is great for when I’m wearing more makeup.
Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick. I still freaking LOVE these lipsticks! This is Liv it Up and Carina’s Love. I want to get a berry shade now that it’s October and today, I’m breaking out MAC Rebel, my favorite ever fall lipstick.
Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom. This is a repeat mention but I’ve been wearing it this month (even layered with the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon) and I’ll never get over how delicious this smells. It’s a different scent for me too since it’s slightly floral, but not so much that I’m sneezing my face off. I love how “warm” the cardamom smells. This was the perfect scent for September while it was still too hot to break out super warm perfumes.
That’s it for me! I’m looking forward to a few of the holiday sets but don’t think I’m going to do any eye palettes this year. I’m probably going to wait to buy anything from Sephora until next month – we are so close to the VIB sale! Though I do realllllly want to try the Nars Velvet Lip Glide. What are you loving now that it’s fall?! And what is you favorite lip color for October?!

So…the beauty blender? Â Is there a quality difference between the cheap ones at target and the more expensive ones at sephora? Â I’ve even seen some really ridiculously cheap ones on Amazon. Â I’m a foundation avoider, but maybe a blender will change my mind. Â
I hate feeling like I got duped though. Â And spending way more money just for a brand name with no difference in quality is the quickest way to annoy me!
oh my gosh – YES! so i know that sounds crazy but i have no way of describing it – try to go into a sephora just to feel it. there are tons of beauty blender dupes but none that feel like the beauty blender. it is super LIGHT. you fill it with water then squeeze it out and it’s just the most amazing beauty tool – it kind of bounces on your skin. you have to try!
Alright. I’m going to buy one. But just so you know, if I don’t instantly fall madly in love with foundation and this little sponge…I will be giving you the silent slow motion head shake. Fair warning. ?
And also thanks for the Info! I really have been curious if it’s worth it and figured you’d be the one to ask…
The black one is even better bec it doesn’t absorb colours ;)
i was skeptical to like you but i love mine. one thing is be nice to it. it rips easy. and to me its totally worth getting the nice big soap to clean it with. that soap is amazing ! it gets everything off if you clean it after each use and cleans makeup brushes well too. i was amazed !
Fall is always the time that I get my Tarte Exposed back out! It’s a perfect everyday blush, all year, of course, but I especially love it in the fall for some reason. The rosiness, I guess! I do the same thing with the Amber Rush eyeshadow – always my fall fave!
Have you tried ColourPop eyeshadows yet? I’m absolutely obsessed! They just stay on forever, and the metallics are gorgeous! So many colors to pick from too.
i knooooooow i need to try colourpop, you’ve been telling me forever! i might order some stuff tonight. :)
The body oil sounds like something I need! Definitely checking it out. Thanks!
Ellé | http://www.ellesimpson.co.uk
it’s really nice ellé!
Thanks for sharing! I totally want to try that Jo Malone mimosa and cardamom fragrance! Sounds amazing!!!!
it’s so wonderful!
OK I know you must get this all the time, I’m curious if you’ve tried lipsense. They have a razz berry color that just screams neon. I thought of you when I put it on. :)
i haven’t! i haven’t even heard of it!
It’s a lipstick that lasts 4-18 hours, molecular bonds to your lips. I have a 2 year old boy and love to kiss on him and it won’t come off on him at all, it seriously is smudge proof waterproof practically life proof. I am a distributer but only because I love this product.
You will love it!
I got a new lipstick and liner from dior but of course I forget which color it is exactly to report it lol. I also switched back to dr. dennis gross skincare recently for moisturizer and serum. all of his products are great!
oooh love dior lipstick!
I actually first tried this in August, so I don’t know if I can count it as a fall beauty find, but Tarte’s shapetape is incredible. Best concealer I’ve ever used. It covers so well, is so smooth and seriously doesn’t crease or budge. Whenever I go into Ulta it’s totally sold out!
i’ve been DYING to try this and yes it’s sold out constantly! i can’t ever get it!
I think you would love it!
Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon thoughts?? I dieeeeed when I smelled Black, but resisted because I have too many half used bottles I need to wear through. But when I saw the Bourbon mention in a Sephora email I think my head spun in circles. I thought Black was the for sure deal on my Santa’s wishlist, now I’m confused even though I haven’t even sniffed Bourbon yet.
i absolutely LOVE the bourbon. i really love the black though too! i like them both. they are slightly similar though so you probably don’t need both. get a rollerball! that’s how i fuel my addiction. ;)
I just got a lipgloss from Arbonne called “Calla” and I LOVE THE SHADE. They have the only lipgloss I can wear because it isn’t as “sticky” (you know what I mean, RIGHT??) as other brands.
omg yes, totally know what you mean!
Since you’re a lipstick person, I’m prettt sure you’d fall in love with LipSense!
it sounds amazing!
Try Jo Malone Basil Neroli. It’s heavenly!
i smelled it at nordstrom – loved it!
You have to have to try all the glossier products. Their serums are AMAZE and i have the concealer and it’s so great. Worth the wait if the products are back ordered. Also I agree. October = darkest makeup possible.
i’ve heard this before!!
First things first-both Vice lip palettes from UD were great! I usually go to Ulta more because I work adjacent to one, but the one with Sephora-exclusive shades really stole my heart, Carnal and Wrath in particular, and Speedball is pretty, too. I love the Karma lip brush that came with both and I keep wishing they’d release a brush set. MAC Liptensity lipsticks are nice too–I got Hellbore and Marsala, which are lovely, and I’d recommend Marsala if you find yourself wanting to try a berry shade a little more lightweight than Rebel–and I actually fell in love with the OTHER Elizabeth and James scent, Nirvana Rose(I’m slowwwwly trying to ween myself off of Roses de Chloe)(it’s not working).
This sounds mildly goofy, but I really liked those Kerry Washington/DC OPI polishes. The names kind of drive me nuts, but We The Female and CIA are both really, really pretty for fall. Kerry Washington herself is absolutely stunning btw.
i also love those nail polishes! prob because my love for K Washington is insane.
Can I add, at this later date, that Immediately after expressing a desire for an UD brush set, one pops up in time for Friends and Fanatics. WHY DOESNT THIS HAPPEN WHEN I WISH FOR MONEY OR AN ORIGINAL BLUE PERIOD PICASSO TO APPEAR ON MY FRONT STOOP?!?
Love Jo Malone perfumes- you should try Diptyqye, especially if you like more musky/smoky perfumes..they’re amazing.
gahhh i’ve been trying to hold off getting into diptyqye because i fear there is no return.
I love love love your beauty posts. I am always going straight to find this stuff after I see it. So excited to try the Jo Malone. I went to visit my mom in Pittsburgh last month and tried the Nirvana Bourbon at Sephora (loved it but didn’t think it would make it through security on my carry-on)–was so excited to get it here in DC.
Revlon Balm Stain in Crush is still my #1 fave fall berry color. Colourpop’s metallic eye shadows are amazingggg (they’re like a powder/cream/awesomeness?!)
Of course in fall I love to break out the Tarte Rainforer After Dark pallete!
My mom was just visiting and I fell in love with the Chanel moisturizing under eye concealer she had – it had great coverage, super moisturizing and no creasing ugh of course because it’s a super high end brand I don’t wanna buy myself! Moms have all the best stuff :P
Ok, so I have been a die hard Beauty Blender fan and have used nothing else personally or in my kit for years. BUT, I have found a cheap dupe that I love even more and I haven’t picked up a BB for over a month; on myself or my clients…you MUST try. It’s the black Beauty Junkees Sponge that you can get at Amazon for 4/$12. http://go.magik.ly/ml/205g/ Honestly, they are that good!!!Â
I just got the hourglass foundation also and love it! Question: which formula of the Charlotte tilbury lipstick do you prefer of those two? Â I’m really wanting to try one! Â Also, not a new item but I just LOVE the Anastasia modern Renaissance pallet so so much I’ve been using it nonstop. Â The formulas of the shadows are beautiful and such gorgeous colors for fall. Â
im trying the same ! nothing from sephora until vib sale. i have been using naked skin urban decay foundation w beauty blender and really like it. sheer coverage but thats what i want. always using the too faced chocolate bronzer and i brought back nars blush in oasis a sorta deeper mauvey pink. the only thing is my nars outter container for this blush is so gross. i have no idea what i got all over it ? ive also worn a few berries so far on my lips and like it. for skin care i’ve been liking the FAB hydrating serum. i put it on before moisturizer, etc and i feel like my makeup goes on better. my nails look like ass from doing lots of work around the house. i have the worlds grossest cuticles and side of nails (what is that even called ? the like hangnails you get around the sides of your nails and the peely skin ?) gross i know. for hair i’m like blah but getting new color on saturday so thats great. i still want super blond highlights. can i just have them all year ? not just summer ? does it look silly to be beachy blond in January ?
MAC rebel is the best! I am not much of a makeup person because I am a total spaz applying it, but I love Rebel (partially because it stays on forever and it looks so great in pictures!) My best make up recommendations are the Bobbi Brown cream shadows in sand dollar and stone. I also just bought Bobbi Brown velvet plum metallic shadow and I love that as well. Love these posts!
