Tuesday Things.
1. Living for iced eggnog lattes. Don’t worry, mine is coming soon.
2. One way I might eat broccoli: three cheese broccoli soup!
3. Must have been feeling ridiculously ambitious this weekend because I made a PIE. With pie crust toppings. Then I didn’t let anyone touch it for over 24 hours so I could look at it’s beauty.
4. Flocked artificial Christmas trees! Do you have one? I want one. Where to get it? I want one that looks super snowy.
5. What did you think of the Masters of Sex finale?! I thought it was rushed, predictable, left lots to be desired but at the same time I sort of liked it. Definitely felt like the end of the show though. How insanely psychotic and wonderful is Jeffrey Dean Morgan on The Walking Dead? Nutcase city. And Divorce! Eddie and I laugh our way through the entire episode each week.
6. I’ve found myself developing a horrible habit of staying up waaaay too late. It’s mainly to get work done and there isn’t quite a way around that, but after the work, it’s like I need to decompress and I just end up looking at stupid internet things for an embarrassing amount of time. TELL ME HOW TO STOP.
7. The ultimate would-you-rather for 90s girls. Gosh. Every summer I wanted a neon hair wrap.
8. I went into college as a history major, solely because I had a fascination with all things american presidential history. I quickly switched majors (… for the first time…) because I didn’t want to do anything with that fascination other than watch the West Wing, but I think it will be so interesting to be a student 25 years from now and learn about the events of this past week. I’m envisioning sitting in my high school history class.
9. It’s gift guide week! Have you started Christmas shopping yet? I haven’t, but I don’t mind the hustle and bustle whatsoever – in fact, I LOVE IT. When I worked retail, my favorite time to work was between Thanksgiving and Christmas. May be one of the only people who actually find it fun.
10. I did a podcast for food blogger pro allll about my blogging life and you can find it right here.

I agree with you that it would be interesting to study this election as a future student. Hopefully the next four years won’t have a disastrous effect on our world.
I’ve been wanting a flocked Christmas tree for forever now! I LOVE the look of them. So dreamy. I’ve seen some bloggers that have beautiful flocked trees and got theirs on the likes of Wayfair and Overstock. I know they’re pretty pricey, but they’re definitely beautiful and it’s on my wishlist. If you get/find one, please post where you snagged it from :-)
I am with you as one of the weird people who love working retail during the holidays! I used to just do seasonal sales at Nordstrom’s in Men’s sportswear. I worked my desk job during the day and at Nordstrom at night and on weekends. I LOVED it and still miss it (and lets be honest…the employee discount). It is almost harder for me to get in the Christmas spirit now because I feel like I should be helping people shop and talking about all their holiday plans.
I, too, have a horrible pattern lately of staying up late. I work for a while and then I lay in bed convincing myself that I’m putting my phone down…which usually doesn’t happen until the battery goes dead! I need better habits!
That 3 cheese broccoli soup looks delish!
The staying up late thing is hard! My husband and I call it the victory lap after bedtime. :)
Are there rumors Masters of Sex is ending?! I watched the episode last night and felt like I needed a little bit more.
Your pie looked so beautiful on insta..idk how you do it! I’m such a spaz when it comes to pies haha.
I’ve been working at Anthropologie just part-item seasonally and it’s so fun! I’ve never worked retail before.
Also listened to your FBP podcast..love it!! I’ve been using Food Blogger Pro a lot lately and it’s been so helpful.
Target has some really nice artificial trees right now, and I did see some flocked ones! I think their online selection was a lot better than in store, but check there. :)
I am a history Ph.D. student. :)
Ummm, about #6, if you find a way, something that works for more than 1-2 days LET ME KNOW. I have the same problem. I’ve thought of leaving my phone or iPad outside the bedroom, but I need an alarm clock, so…. they’re staying right on the bedside table.
And I’ve been looking at flocked trees too! We need a new one anyway and I can’t get over how beautiful the snowy ones look.
Happy to see you on the podcast, will definitely listen to it tonight. :)
I have a flocked tree. It is beautiful, but it can shed and make a mess. That is something that you might want to consider if your baby still puts things in his mouth. I also stay up at night and quickly loose time on the internet. I am so tired now. ☺
Staying up late is SUCH a problem! My problem with it was also, staying up late = me sleeping in way too late, so then I’m not tired until late…ad infinitum. The ONLY thing that works is me knowing what sites I’ll lose time on, and avoiding them after a certain time. I’ll look during my lunch hour instead, or early enough in the evening. If I see something I want to read/watch, I’ll put it on my reading list/bookmark it, and read/watch it at lunch the next day.
That 90s would you rather quiz was a HUGE blast from the past. Oh my gosh. I forgot about floatie flip flops!
I finished reading this and saw your post recommendations at the bottom. “Garlic butter pull apart rolls” was shown, but I read it as “glitter butter pull apart rolls” and I was like, “Jessica would.” ?✨
I’m also guilty of staying up too late and I have no advice for you except to actually listen to your inner disciplined voice that tells you should go to bed. I’m a rebel and rarely listen :) (Also, just listened to your podcast on FBP and really enjoyed it.)
I love the holiday hustle and bustle at retail stores. While it’s more practical now with a child to shop online, I still love going to the stores on a busy day. I agree that when I worked retail I LOVED the holiday shopping season. I worked at Borders for a couple of years, but especially loved working at Williams-Sonoma around the holidays. That store just always smelled so freaking good!
1) I totally understand what you mean by needing to wind down at night – I have to do this when I get home late from Board meetings for work. I find that audiobooks help and put me to sleep faster (I listen to the Outlander series, which I’ve read/listened to close to 10 times so I’m not compelled to keep listening).
2) I listened to your podcast and loved it! So many things resonated with me (and I’m not a blogger!) — especially the feeling that you personally know the blogger even though you haven’t met. TBH my friends and I do that with you all the time – we’ll talk about about your new pic of Max or blog posts or recipes but on a first name basis. Also, I wanted to let you know that as a reader, I’m always stoked when I get a reply from you or if you comment or like an instagram post where I tag you – especially because I know your so busy & its impossible to respond to everything! So thanks for being you!
I have fallen behind in my Food Blogger Pro podcasts. I’m so excited to go listen to yours!

Listened to your podcast interview today – so fun to hear your voice since we are ‘only’ internet friends and I hadn’t had the opportunity to listen to you speak before. Talk about feeling connected ;) Almost like the day I turned to the end of “Here’s to Us” and there was my internet friend! Thanks for all your hard work – look forward to seeing what’s to come…
It took me about a year to recover from my first frenzied and sleepless year of grad school, but here are two things that have helped:
–Getting f.lux for my computer. It starts to filter out the blue light from your screen, mimicking what happens when the sun goes down. It’s a good thing for your circadian rhythm, but it’s also a visual reminder.
–Setting multiple alarms for different parts of the evening so I stay on track. This has gone through many shifts over the years, so I think the important part is to be a little flexible, but know that it is worth trying to keep to a schedule. Right now mine is 8:30 pm turn the computer off, do the dishes and get lunch for the next day ready, 8:50 pm is brush teeth and put out clothes for the next day, 9 pm is read, and 9:30 is go to bed. It means I make a conscious effort to unwind doing something I enjoy (read) but also don’t read hours later than I should.
I have to say that you are my favorite person right now! You are such an interesting person. Not to sound weird but I might sound weird but I connect with what you say, what you like, what you do like staying up late looking at stupid Internet stuff to decompress and how do I stop. I do the same. I’m just admiring you and it’s so refreshing to find a genuine, fun loving, interesting, honest, true to herself, tell it like it is person in this crazy world of social media.
