Tuesday Things.
1. I would be completely thrilled to live my life in Gaga’s sparkle beaded outfit from her opening of the Super Bowl.
2. Oh my gosh. This blood orange winter watercolor cake. She speaks to my heart so, so much.
3. My ritual on the weekend nights right now has been to lock myself in a room and write my next book for hours on end. While this is working since it’s gross and cold outside and I love that I’m not procrastinating like usual, I’m going majorly stir crazy.
4. I work from home. Ha. Ha ha ha ha ha.
5. Coffee and I have reunited (thanks to that cascara latte – ugh, why is it so good) and I have to say that the little break I took worked wonders. I no longer feel horrible when I drink it – and I’m still adding a teeny bit of cream. What is coffee without cream? Seriously.
6. So I finished Gilmore Girls AND the revival. While I’m drowning in my depression (wait, for a second I think I was actually LIVING in Stars Hollow, that’s how obsessed I was), I’m looking for a happy, light, funny book to scoop me up and rock me to sleep. I didn’t HATE the revival but it was different. If you read Lauren Graham’s most recent book, she talks about how when the show ended, they got rid of everything since Netflix shows and streaming TV didn’t exist. Everything had to come from scratch. My one question is will Eddie mind if I hang a poster of Luke circa 2004 in our bedroom like I did with Zack Morris as a tween. See also: I might be youtubing fan videos of Luke and Lorelai.
7. Just going to say it: I love the whole athleisure trend because while it’s not different from the stuff I wear daily anyway, now I feel like a normal human doing everything in my workout clothes. But is it just me? Or do you save your GOOD workout clothes for wearing… and not working out. I only work out in the old stuff. Duh.
8. This is so interesting: what happened when I forced myself to wake up at 5am for a month. When I asked you guys a few weeks ago if you set alarms on the weekend, many of you asked why I do that when I have a kid. The short answer is that I want to be up a little earlier to have time to do nothing (truly) by myself. I love the mornings.
9. Favorite commercials from the Super Bowl? I loved a lot of them and they message they were sharing, but I gotta give my fave to Martha Stewart + Snoop. I will never get sick of those two together.

First off, thank you! I just got hooked on cascara lattes. I like them so much more than my other old go to, the white mocha. Plus it’s like 300 calories less.
Second, I looooove waking up before my kids. That me time for a shower, getting dressed, and quiet phone docking around time is the best. So you’re not alone in that.
I’m not a Mom so I probably don’t appreciate the alone time in the morning, but I HATE mornings. If I could make them disappear I would. I’m such a grump and so like angry that I have to be awake. Sleep is life.

I love all your Tuesday things. That blood orange watercolor cake is the prettiest. Â I’ve got blood oranges in my backyard, but I’m gonna make a mess of that cake for sure.
I’m with you: I don’t actually work out in the good workout clothes. They’ve become my regular clothes.
How have I missed out on this cascara latte thing? Going by starbucks today.Â
So many good Super Bowl commercials this year! Love love love Martha and Snoop. They bring out the best in each other.
omg the work from home article ! i eat so much more when i work from home !!!! and may have drank from a bottle or 2 of OJ or milk.
I love the athleisure trend too! I definitely save the “nice” athleisure clothes only for wearing out – you know, the Athleta leggings that are too cool or the super drapey, open backed top that I couldn’t actually do yoga in or I’d be tangled in my shirt doing down-dog. And there’s a hierarchy for the clothes I exercise in. I have the oldest, least cool/non-matching ones that I use exclusively at home (probably to my husband’s delight, since I definitely don’t look cute…just crazy). Then I have the cute outfits that I wear to the gym. I keep a few not-too-supportive sports bras around to wear only in a non-exercise event (since they wouldn’t support anything) where you could see how cute the back is. It’s kinda hilarious when you think about it… And I’ve been wearing this trend my entire life since I grew up playing sports (though I only accepted leggings and capris a few years ago – before then it was legit old school sweatpants or soccer shorts).
PS – I’m super excited for your next book!!!
working from home – my gawd that was funny! Â and true! Â … Â i wake up at 5a during the week. Â it stinks. Â but i do have to say, i love that time alone – before the house wakes up. Â
With you on the athleisure thing. Perks of grad school – you can get away with wearing yoga pants to class, and you just blend it with the rest of the undergrads on campus. I definitely work out in my old favorites and save my nice workout clothes for when I’m running errands or out walking/hiking and likely to run into people I know (or, let’s be honest, take a pic that ends up on IG).
Saw this re: the athleisure trend expanding to the cosmetics world. You’re a product junkie so I figure you might have strong feelings ha ;) https://www.fastcompany.com/3067727/innovation-agents/athleisure-makeup-has-the-cosmetics-industry-breaking-a-sweat
My sister gave me a pair of lululemon pants for christmas (align II, naked sensation, OMG amazing) and my first thought, as a fellow work from home-er, was YAAAAAASSSSSSS new “work” pants. As if I’m sweating in $100 pants. That’s what the $12 ones from Old Navy are for. For the record, I do love my Old Navy workout pants. Great quality, very low price.
Ha, hahahahahahaha, the work from home article is the best. Especially lunch….how did I eat 7 random things and call it a meal?!
I’ve been wearing athletic leggings a lot this winter and love it, but I never wear them when I workout; I’d get too hot.
My husband was laughing at me because every Saturday I have the same uniform, blue Nike quarter zip shirt and black athletic leggins. I love it!
i definitely keep my ‘good’ workout clothes for non sweating times. what i actually wear to the gym is so old and grimy. but who cares! pretty sure i’ve never even worked out in one pair of my lulus aha!
The Gilmore Girls revival definitely had a different feel. I can’t imagine watching it directly after watching the series for the first time. I have carried the series with me for so many years, loving it, and feel it may be the only way I can go back to the original series, eventually. Because I loved it so much before the revival. Didn’t hate the revival, but it wasn’t the same.Â
1. So glad you made it all the way through GG! And I honestly can’t believe you never got into it before – Lorelai is like your spirit animal! Not that I know you IRL or anything but….. 2. What are these “work out clothes” you speak of? (rubs bleary eyes) Doesn’t everyone just live in yoga pants and sweatshirts these days if they don’t have to work in an office? These clothes are just so normalized now. I for one don’t live in anything else when I’m at home. And I HATE having work in an actual office – putting on “adult” clothes is so 2000andlate. Ugh.
I jumped into Gilmore Girls with a friend who was midway through season 4 and just kept going from there and recently finished the show (well, half of it) and the revival and I totally agree that the revival had a much different feel. My friends who watched GG when it was on like normal people said it didn’t feel as different to them because they’d been waiting ten years and felt like the characters grew and changed by then too. Anyway, now I’m starting back at the beginning which is so interesting as well! They all look so young.Â
Side note…I’ve been reading through all of your baby posts now that I’m pregnant and I love them! It’s realllly hard to imagine that my aversion to coffee will go away (I’m almost 13 weeks now), but you’ve given me faith that it will. And my energy will come back. I hope! :)
Oh, and I cannot wait for your next book! I use your first cookbook so much!
Love your Tuesday Things posts! I feel like it sums up everything that I need to know for the week. Also,
Item #7 re: athleisure. SAME HERE! The nice workout clothes are too nice to work out it. I save those for going out too haha. Will definitely have to try the cascara latte too.
Not sure about the athleisure. . . I have so carefully linked workout clothes with working out, that I’d fear losing that “ok, have to work out” feeling the moment I put them on. Plus, I always feel more “dressed” in regular clothes. That said, my boss (a senior director at a federal agency, swears by BetaBrand’s Dress Pant Yoga Pants – and wears hers at least once or twice a week to the office. If you don’t own a pair, you should check them out.
That watercolor cake is so stunning!

7 & 8–me, me! always save the good work out clothes for errands or whatever…why?! i will wear them for races bc there are so many people, but sweat in them way less than i should. and i always set alarms for weekends or vacation mornings. i don’t have kids, but i love the time to myself so much, especially if there are a lot of other people in the house. peace to the nth degree.
Random Q: What font do you use for your post title and body? I love the look.Â
Is the cascara latte really good!? I’m out of the country so I’ve heard of it and am super curious but won’t be able to try it for… several more months haha. Â I do the same thing with my workout clothes! Of course you don’t want to get your good workout clothes sweaty and dirty from a hard workout! I also sweat A LOT so I I kind of have to separate clothes for sweating in from clothes for smelling acceptably. Â I wake up at 6:00 am every morning with an alarm but because my puppy has to go outside to pee by that time! It really does make me feel much better and more productive in the mornings at least.Â
I was reading your blog this morning, and my son saw me reading about the cascara latte. He’s home for a few days visiting, so after dropping me off at work he went to Starbucks and picked up a latte for me. So glad I read your blog. You like so many good things. It is delish!!

I have MAJOR feelings about the Gilmore Girls finale!! Like…it kind of ruined the whole show for me! Wonder if you feel differently having just watched it all now; I watched the show in high school and college and had much higher expectations for how it turned out!
That Martha Stewart commercial was hilarious! She and Snoop Dogg/Lion/[insert animal] are a great combo.
