Tuesday Things.
1. 100% obsessed with the fact that they are creating an American Boy doll. Like, what took so long?!
2. Can you say cinnamon swirl layer cake?! It’s absolutely stunning.
3. I am constantly blown away by the stunning, bright pasta that linda from salty seattle creates. Isn’t it beautiful?
4. Lots of TV on that I liked this week! Billions… oh my gosh. I can already tell that season 2 will be just as wonderful as season 1. I actually thought GIRLS was hilarious and one of my favorite episodes ever. How crazy was The Walking Dead scene with the spiked zombie? Big Little Lies?! I liked it.
5. Also. GUYS. I figured out why I am so in love with Stars Hollow, besides the obvious. It’s because the small town vibe reminds me so much of my favorite place ever, Boyne City, and every year when we are there, I want to live there forever.
6. Speaking of vacations, what is your favorite east coast beach? I’ve been to multiple but am looking for a diamond in the rough.
7. I love this early career advice, especially the “don’t over plan” one. Because I over plan EVERYTHING. It’s horrible.
8. Oh yes, I am freaking out that there is a Lisa Frank line of cosmetics coming out. Can I please by 13 again? The purple eyeshadow would be absolutely insane. Everyone on earth has been sharing it with me.
9. My worst nightmare. I’d rather stay awake all night than wear socks to bed.

I would recommend looking into Bethany Beach, DE. I used to go with my family when I was younger and it was the best! Super low-key and family-friendly, but also has easy access to Rehoboth to the north and Ocean City, MD to the south (if you want more action).
I second that! I love that it’s low-key, but still enough to entertain. Not to mention the grapefruit crush being the common boozy beverage of choice in that area.
There’s a Lisa Frank makeup line coming out?????? OMG…..
Also, I’m a MDer and I say Ocean City, but if you’re not a huge partier, you might not enjoy it as much. Delaware beaches are a bit better for just a relaxing beach time.

GIRLS: Desi breaking in was strange, but every.single.moment with Elijah was, and will always be, worth the crazy in every other episode. I really couldn’t get into reading Big Little Lies but the mini-series is great so far.
Bethany Beach (Sea Colony) is great for family vacations. Sea Colony’s Beach is never over crowded, always clean and quite! My family has been going for years.
East Coast Beach: Duck, North Carolina in the Outer Banks. I’ve spent my entire life beach vacationing there. Very family friendly, all private beaches, with a laid-back vibe. Great restaurants, too.
Botany Bay beach in South Carolina!! It’s part of a nature preserve. The beach is covered with shells (which you’re not allowed to take because it’s a preserve), and there’s also lots of weird trees all over the beach and in the water. It is gorgeous!! So different than a typical beach. There’s also some historical sites around it since it’s part of an old plantation. Edisto Beach is also close by if you’re looking for a more traditional beach.
Edisto is the best shell beach I have ever been to! So many to collect! I like wrightsville beach, nc but it is really busy topsail,NC is much more laid back! The NC aquarium system is awesome for kids. Fort fisher aquarium is my fav!
Holden Beach! It’s in Southern NC but south facing so it’s really warm & the sunsets are gorgeous. Not as touristy as Myrtle (about 45 min away) but really nice.

Current East Coast beach obsession – Pawley’s Island, SC. It has beautiful wide, white sand beaches, and is super small – 3 houses wide between the marsh and the ocean – so it’s very quiet and the beaches are not crowded. But, it’s also just a few minutes from restaurants and shopping along the highway. The best of both worlds – convenience and an idyllic get away!
Best east coast beach ever: Fortune’s Rocks Beach in Biddeford Pool, Maine. It may seem like a weird choice because it’s little and unpopulated, but it.is.amazing. Definitely a locals place. If you want quiet and relaxation then this is the only beach you’ll ever ever need.
Second the person who said Duck, or Corolla! We go to Corolla every year (from Jersey! so we have our pick) and love it! Always a ton of Pitt people down there too! If you are looking at the OCMD/Bethany recommendations, I’d pick Fenwick Island over those two. The beach is wider and it’s less crowded, but still close enough to the more touristy stuff to get into whatever your heart desires!
Either Cape May Point, NJ (quieter than the town of Cape May), or, if you want to travel farther, Captiva or Sanibel Island, FL!
Also, I want to live in Stars Hallow so bad :(
Pawleys Island, SC! I happen to live in Pawleys, so I’m a little biased–but it’s seriously the best! There are cute shops and great restaurants. The beaches aren’t too crowded even during the summer, and it’s close to Myrtle Beach and Charleston if you want to take a day trip. Tons of folks from PA come here, so you’ll fit right in!
beaches?? Hello! Maine. Goose Rock Beach and Pine Point…They are all south of Portland (amazing food). Seriously, you told me you wanted to go to Maine, here’s your chance! Run Forrest Run!!!!
Avalon, NJ and Cape May, NJ are great for Jersey beaches. Avalon especially has a very small beach town vibe, not commercial at ALL. Plenty of cute shops, little mini golf and ice cream. Quiet….But close to OCean City, NJ to hit the boardwalk.
For Outer Banks I can’t say enough about the town of Duck. So much for families and kids to do in the little town – free magic shows and entertainment, storytime, etc a couple of times a week, free yoga for the parents on the town green, movies and music outdoors at night. Such a great little town, good food and ice cream too. And for the MD/DE area I love Rehobeth or Bethany. Bethany is a bit more quaint. Rehboeth has Funland, which is family owned, perfect for little ones. It was even featured on CBS Sunday Monring b/c I think the same family has owned and operated it basically forever.
Love all these Delaware beaches getting mentioned!! I grew up in Bethany Beach, DE. I would actually recommend Fenwick Island, DE, however. I used to lifeguard on the beach there and it is significantly quieter than Bethany, especially if you stay on the northern streets (basically those between Dagsboro through Lewes). It is also sandwiched in between OCMD and Bethany if you want to check their restaurants or Boardwalks (although Bethany’s boardwalk is more family friendly). I highly recommend Just Hooked and an old lifeguard pal of mine’s restaurant, One Coastal.
I really like Chincoteague, VA. It’s very laid back with lots of small local shops (including an amazing book store and a ton of delicious ice cream places) and has a national wildlife refuge plus wild ponies!
Cinnamon swirl layer cake – sounds amazing! x

I live in Pawleys Island, SC and it has it all! come visit…it is beautiful and fun!
Are you still watching Homeland this season? I’m kinda over it…just missing the personal element this season…all politics.
Southern Maine beaches! Specifically Wells Beach or Ogunquit Beach – the greatest thing about these beaches is they’re close to wonderful places to eat! Perkins Cove in Ogunquit has some famous restaurants, like MC Perkins Cove, and in downtown Ogunquit there’s a lovely toy/book shop called Animal Instinct that Max would love. Up the road about thirty minutes is Old Orchard Beach (typical pier and boardwalk beach) and then if you go a little further you’re in Portland where there are even more food and microbrewery options! Southern Maine has it all!
Socks?! Really?! ;) My feet are usually FREEZING when I go to bed so I always wear socks. I find it super distracting to have cold feet. Although usually within about 30 minutes my feet get too hot and I kick my socks off. I’m weird, I know! :) My husband is definitely in your camp. NO SOCKS ALLOWED. They totally wig him out too.
St Simons / Jekyll Island area!
I second (or third) Bethany Beach (Sea Colony). An easy/doable 6 1/2 hour drive from Pittsburgh (with kids!). This will be our fourth year going with kids (5 and 3). Sea Colony is a 1/2 mile walk to the boardwalk so we rarely drive anywhere except to the grocery store.
You should check out St Augustine Beach! The beach is wide and beautiful and the city of St. Augustine is one of the coolest and prettiest cities you will ever go to. Check out pictures online!
A few folks have mentioned Cape May….I got married there. It’s very sweet, especially just before the season kicks off. But even during the high season, it’s not crazy. They’re very strict about zoning, so there’s very little new development. No high rises, just lots of Victorian/Edwardian homes and hotels and B+Bs. And Wildwood is right next door, if you’re craving the Jersey boardwalk feel for one night. In the other direction is Cape May Point, which is even more tucked away than Cape May.
I’m with you on the socks. I cannot wait to get them off my feet at night.
Did you read Lauren Graham’s new book yet? I just finished it last night—it was so good, I was bummed it ended. Of course, reading all about the filming of Gilmore Girls meant that I found myself re-watching the new ones on Netflix at 3 a.m. because I couldn’t sleep.
Tybee Island, GA is amazing!!!!!!! It’s not touristy, all stores and restaurants are locally owned, no chains, and it’s 20 minutes from Savannah which is also amazing!!!!!!! The ocean is calm with no huge waves so would be great for your little man ? I have been to Bethany Beach, Rhohobeth, and Ocean City, MD, Tybee by far is the best!!!!!!!!!!!! Got married there on the ocean and we’re back again last summer, love it ????❤️❤️
Emerald Isle or Holden Beach NC are AWESOME!!!!!!!
Also watch this Jimmy Fallon Thank You Notes… he references the American Girl Boy doll… SO stinking funny!!! https://www.facebook.com/FallonTonight/videos/vb.31732483895/10155087984578896/?type=2&theater¬if_t=video_reply¬if_id=1487462747748494
No one has mentioned Sandbridge – a smaller, more relaxed beach about 20 mins south(ish) of Virginia Beach. I’ve been going for years and while it’s definitely I highly recommend it grown up since I was little with a few more condos, it’s still way calmer than VA Beach proper. There’s tons to do, non-crowded beaches and a wildlife sanctuary! I highly recommend it, but don’t tell anyone else about this gem :)
I really love the beach near Burlingame Campground in Charleston, Rhode Island. My mom and I used to camp there when I was in college, and it was awesome to wake up to the smell of the ocean and then go spend the day playing in the waves!
There are so many cute Maine seaside towns to choose from. My favorites are probably Belfast and Castine. :)
Lewes Beach in Delaware is a wonderful quiet beach! It’s not nearly as crowded as Rehoboth or Betheny. We rented a house in a quiet development near Cape Henlopen State Park and it was perfect. The beach was almost deserted, the development had a pool too and we rented bikes and toured the park. The park has a really cool museum for Fort Miles and you can see barracks, etc. A plus was fishing for croakers and crabs off the pier!
Added plus is the cute town of Lewes…adorable! And a quick Ferry ride gets you to Cape May!
We keep the house really cool at night – I love having piles of comforters and blankets on me but it also means I need to have those cute fluffy aloe socks when I go to sleep. 9 times out of 10 they are off by morning (gotta love those hot flashes!)
Long Beach Island, NJ! My aunt owned a house in Surf City and we’d go every summer when I was a kid. There’s an ocean side and a bay side, which is great for little kids. There’s thi s really great mall/boardwalk area on one side of the island, a nature preserve, a life house, lots of mini golf, some really great restaurants and I loved going to the library to grab books for reading on the beach.
CAPE MAY!!! You will absolutely love it! It is beautiful and Victorian and quaint and so lovely. You can bike everywhere (highly recommend) and is not commercial at all. Awesome food, too!!
Being that your husband is a big horse racing fan, you guys should come to Saratoga Springs, NY!!! If you haven’t been here yet, you would absolutely die over it. Its so perfect… old, Victorian, quaint, but enough going on! When the track season hits (July 21-Labor day), forget about it… theres no better place to be!!!
