giveaway

Oh my yum.

I know this has been a coincidentally uncharacteristic week on How Sweet It Is, but I promise tomorrow will more than make up for it. Monday too. You’ll be lucky if you can button your pants by Tuesday.

I am super excited about this giveaway! In fact, my excitement has grown every single day this week.. because I can’t stop eating things out of this book.

MamaPea is the creator of the blog Peas and Thank You, if you didn’t know. She has some of the cutest kids I’ve ever seen and will make you wet your pants on a daily basis with her hilarity. She just wrote this fabulous cookbook which is so much more than just a cookbook. [Bonus: my close friend Ashley did much of the food photography for the book!] She is also vegan, which yeah… is the complete opposite of me.

But the thing is, we love a lot of the same foods. She just makes them with different (uhh… and healthier) ingredients and lots of vegetables. Ew?

I may not love vegetables, but I love delicious food. Really love it.  Duh! And there have been countless times over the last year and a half I’ve been blogging that I’ve made one of her recipes (can we say dough balls?), because if she can’t get me to eat vegetables then I doubt anyone can. #imscrewed

The minute I got my hands on her book I made the thai veggie burgers.

Get.in.my.mouth.

Holy cow, these were flippin’ delicious. It was my first time making a veggie burger and I was more than pleasantly surprised. I want to lay my head down on a thai burger pillow tonight.

I also made a batch of the ever popular mmm sauce, which I promptly slathered on my [third] thai veggie burger.

dirty placemat... ain't no thang.

Sure I’ll swim in this bowl. Thanks for asking.

And yesterday afternoon, I ate this chickpea strawberry salad then almost died.

Not because I ate so many vegetables at once, but because this salad was so amazingly good. I immediately wanted to pour the remaining cinnamon vinaigrette over my head. Then I emailed MamaPea and told her that this was probably the best cookbook I have tried recipes from since my beloved Williams Sonoma Handbook. That is huge! And it doesn’t even have bacon in it.

The recipes are mostly vegetarian with a handful of vegan ones, and are so easy but so delicious – I find them to be extremely adaptable for when you do want to add meat or in my case… need to add meat for that guy you life with. Trust me: you want this book. [If you have any doubts, just check out the SIXTY TWO 5 star reviews.]

Today you can enter to win a copy of the book! In addition, you’ll also get a “pea pack” with all of these fun things, and I’m totally jealous though I have no need for an apron that says “Mama” or a bib. Except for that guy I… yeah, you know.

To Enter: Just leave a comment on this post. Any comment. Go!

[Contest closes Friday, Aug 12th at midnight EST.] [If you absolutely can't wait to get your hands on the book or want to order one for your friends, click here!]

The buffalo chicken obsession continues!

I was sent a boatload of Saucy Mama goodies, and obviously I chose to use their buffalo wing sauce to create a delicious recipe.

You can never go wrong with buffalo sauce!

So buffalo dishes are usually pretty manly, huh?

Well, Mr. How Sweet wasn’t too thrilled about the lettuce replacing a bun, but since I added cheese and peanuts on top, he ate it. It was delicious. Even he thought so. But he’s embarrassed to admit it because “real” men don’t eat meat out of lettuce cups. My rebuttal was that “real” men don’t have 4,321 diecast toy cars. Oh well.

Winner, winner chicken dinner!

Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Cups

serves 4

8 lettuce leaves

4 ounces grilled chicken, shredded

2 tablespoons Saucy Mama wing sauce + more for drizzling

1/4 cup shredded carrots

chopped arugula for garnish

2 tablespoons chopped peanuts

1 ounce crumbled blue cheese

In a bowl, combine chicken, wing sauce and carrots. Mix until combined. Spoon mixture evenly into lettuce cups. Top with chopped arugula, chopped peanuts and crumbled blue cheese.

Drizzled with additional wing sauce if desired.

Now it’s your turn!

You can win a plethora of Saucy Mama goodies too!

This giveaway includes:

*buffalo wing sauce*

*cracked pepper marinade*

*lime chipotle marinade*

*sweet onion marinade*

*jalapeno stuffed olives*

*chipotle mustard*

Just leave a comment here telling me what you would make with one of the Saucy Mama ingredients!

I’ll announce the winner Sunday, September 12 at 8pm EST.

Good Luck!

You guys made me gain 5lbs just from reading all of your ice cream submissions.

I spent my life savings on a bowl of Coldstone ice cream last night because I just couldn’t take it anymore.

Thanks to all who entered! I appreciate you all so much. You have made this such a fun journey for me. I wish everyone could win!

The winner of the Cuisinart Soft Serve Maker is …

JENNA who said…

‘Oh my gah my world would be complete with this. My favvvvvorite kind of ice cream is chocolate! Holy cow you can add so much to it or keep it plain and it is still amazing. I always try to do a fun little twist using plain greek yogurt and jello chocolate pudding mix to make imitation chocolate soft serve but this would be wayyyyyy better!’

Congrats, Jenna! Email me at merchant.jessica@gmail.com with your mailing address and phone number!

Stay tuned – more delicious giveaways coming up!

Giveaway!

I am jealous. I have wanted an ice cream maker for months. I have wanted to make flavors that would disgust anyone within 100 yards of me, like olive oil and gorgonzola ice cream. But I love you guys so much that I wanted to give one to you instead of buying it for myself. If it wasn’t for you, I would be sitting at home on my couch all day eating bonbons and flipping through Us Weekly with a green mask on my face. If it wasn’t for you, I’d also probably be in a smaller jeans size too, but what’s the fun in that? You can win this Cuisinart Mix-It-In Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker. Fully automatic ice cream maker—makes up to 1½ quarts of soft ice cream, yogurt, sorbet or sherbet in as little as 20 minutes. Mixes treats right into ice cream as it’s dispensed—choose one, two or all three. No chemicals, salt or ice required. Even if you already have an ice cream maker, wouldn’t this make a fun gift for someone? Like me? To Enter: 1.) Leave a comment telling me which ice cream flavor you’d love to make. Are you plain vanilla? Peanut [...]

American Spoon Giveaway.

sunset

Please update your google readers! http://feeds.feedburner.com/howsweeteats/smSp     Remember when I raved about this absolutely incredible, raw honey?   For as long as I can remember, my family has vacationed on the lake in Northern Michigan every summer. It might just be my most favorite place in the entire world.   Can you blame me?     One of our traditions is visiting American Spoon and tasting all of their wonderful preserves, dried fruits and other goodies.   Honestly, I have never had better dried cherries or blueberry preserves anywhere, ever. They also have amazing recipes for each product listed on their website!   Some of my favorites include:   Pumpkin Butter (I was eating this way, way before I ever knew pumpkin butter was cool. I’m talking like, 10 years ago.) Blueberry Lime Preserves Dried Cherries (my absolute FAVORITE!!) Cherry Peach Salsa Raw Honey   That is just a start. See, I have tried every product because if you have ever been to American Spoon, you will know they have samples of absolutely everything. Going there is such a treat.    They have beautiful gift sets and packages that make excellent Holiday gifts – whether it is for a family [...]

Multigrain Rolls and a 'Glo-ing' Giveaway!

IMG_1341

See…I promised I wasn’t going to give you a recipe for the rolls above my jeans. WHO would want that? Not me.     Or my hubs. Hmmm…better do something about these rolls…       I got the idea for this recipe from Miss Martha, of course. I used whole wheat flour for the entire batch, making them super nutty and healthy.         First, I whisked the yeast with some raw honey and buttermilk.                 It has to sit until it gets foamy.           I used about 1/2 of this package.                           Any Michigan natives out there??                           My grandparents are from Michigan and we vacation there every summer – way up north on the lake. I have some of the BEST memories of my life there. A huge part of me would love to live there, or retire there…or…something there. Unfortunately, it is about 10 hours away from me in good ole’ Pittsburgh.   American Spoon has the most [...]

because.

pumpkinbutt

Because this is my 36th post and October 2nd – which has to be a holiday of some sorts, somewhere – and because I sorta, kinda, REALLY like you – I’m giving away some seasonal goodies.   You can find these yummy treats at Williams Sonoma, or you can win them here.                 One lucky dude or dudette will win this Pumpkin Pecan Butter and Pumpkin Parmesan Pasta Sauce.   Just leave a comment and tell me what amazing creation you’d make with the Pecan Pumpkin Butter or Pumpkin Parmesan Pasta Sauce. Cookies? Pie? Tortellini? Spread it on a cracker? Eat it with a spoon? Wash your hair with it? Hopefully not, as it is sort of strange but would also be such a waste. And if you don’t like pumpkin? I am sure that someone you know does. Maybe they want it.      You have until midnight (Pacific time) on Friday, Oct 2nd.
