I'm

never

coming

home.

Oh wait! Yes I am.

Because this needs to be in my house.

Tomorrow I’m going to attempt to not be super lazy and pick up my DSLR. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: photography is not a passion of mine; in fact I find it quite burdensome to drag a heavy camera with me everywhere. [Plus it doesn't fit in my cute purses.] But I think I’ll regret it if I don’t get a few gorgeous shots… and who are we kidding? Instagram is not exactly improving my photography skills.

Happy Friday!

One Last Sunset.

Just couldn’t help myself.

I don’t think I’ve ever been this sad to leave.

Today is the perfect Northern Michigan day in my eyes.

It is the first day where I can truly feel and smell that refreshing air.

There is also a signature wind – you can tell by the whitecaps on the water!

If I were to share my eats so far today, all you would see is ice cream and popcorn.

I’m on vacation.

Popcorn is boring but I will share some ice cream.

This is eskimo kisses. It is coconut ice cream with different chocolate chunks in it, and also laced with fresh coconut. It was awesome.

I am so excited about what we did next that I am almost jumping out of my skin.

I’ve have read about Fustini’s in Traverse magazine for the last few years, and I was super excited to go in.

We tasted so many vinegars and oils that I can’t ever remember the exotic flavors. If you’ve been reading for awhile, you’ll know that I don’t like salad dressing and use flavored vinegars on my salads (when I eat salads… obviously).

I’d love to tell you which flavors I got, but then I would have to tell Mr. How Sweet too. And let’s be honest, he doesn’t need to know how much money I spent on vinegar.

You can check out all the flavors on the website. What flavors do you think I got?

I guess you’ll just have to wait and see what I make with them!

Afterwards, we stopped and got more ice cream from American Spoon.

This time I rolled with the burnt caramel gelato. It was divine.

I won’t lie. I’m ice creamed-out. I don’t love ice cream. Mainly because I don’t enjoy foods at extreme temperatures. I’ve had my fill this week!

Now off to dinner and hopefully one last gorgeous sunset. I never want to leave!

My Perfect Night.

It doesn’t get much better than this. I can’t even begin tell you the emotion stirred in me.

Blue Skies and Lake Lunches.

It was beautiful out this morning! We headed to the farmer’s market again to get some lunch supplies. And I have been trying to get these babies ripe for 3 full days. Apparently, Pittsburgh isn’t the only place that avocados cost an arm and a leg. They were 3 for $5 here. Besides that, the suckers did not want to get ripe. I put them in a paper bag for a day, I had them sitting out in the sun for a day, I gave them warm and cool darkness – nothing. I was done being patient. So I performed some avocado surgery to make guac anyway. It came out just okay. My dad grilled us lunch: Then we went swimming in the pretty water, but you guys know I can’t take my DSLR anywhere near water. And now we are off to play!

The One That Got Away.

I must admit, in actuality we are a bit boring. I don’t have many exciting pictures to share, mainly because we are lazy bums. Know what else? We rarely eat out. I come from a long line of home cooks. Even on vacation we don’t head out to eat very much. But this pretty much stems from the fact that we would rather lay around and have most likely had cocktails since noon. Mr. How Sweet and I also don’t venture out that much. Usually because I am lazy and he is too hungry to take a 5 minute car ride to a restaurant. Just kidding. Sort of. We have been averaging at least 2 meals out a day here. It is rough. It is unlike us. I feel like I’m going to explode. It is actually making me want to eat some broccoli. Now you know that means business. We also have a boatload of goodies in the house. I did not make any. But somehow, we have ended up with funfetti cupcakes, funfetti cookies, brownies, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip cookie bars, Dove chocolate, white trash, s’mores ingredients, and 16lbs of taffy. And beer. Help me. My grandpa [...]

Lazy Day Shots.

The early bird gets the worm! Today was an overcast and dreary day. Nothing better to do than lay around and be bums. Way too much time was spent working on this puzzle. I swear it is a trick puzzle. It is impossible. After 6 consecutive hours of laying around, we took a little walk. I wanted to share some pictures of my great-grandparents house – the reason we began vacationing here in the first place! Isn’t is cute? We only stay a few blocks from it now right on the lake. This is their view from the street: And the steep steps down to the dock: These steps used to be rotted old wood and I can remember my parents being scared we’d tumble down them. I am obsessed with these colorful adirondack chairs: My dream would be to sit in one of those, stare at the lake and write all day. My dad had a few too many Summer Shandy’s and took a few “naps” on the dock. Then my other brother, cousin and grandpa arrived. 2 generations: And how can a night be bad when it ends like this?

I Just Can’t Help Myself.

Are you sick of sunsets yet? I’m off to lay around, eat too much, read trashy books, not shower and not cook a thing.

Bay Harbor and THE Sunset.

Love, love, love Bay Harbor. It is an incredible, beautiful resort. What? You don’t have a boat garage in your house? Does it get any better than this? We had happy hour out on the porch. Giant man-sized chess set: We used to think that Bay Harbor was a bit stuffy, but then we saw Kid Rock and Chris Chelios here a few years ago with a parade of women. Fun stuff. Once we got home, we decided that we hadn’t sufficiently stuffed ourselves so we went to dinner. This is about the time that Andy declared this the blogcation. I’ve shoved the camera in everyone’s face eight-thousand times. Mackinac Fudge Ale! This beer was so good. It tasted like chocolate fudge! Hi. We are sweaty pigs. We walked around in 85 degrees temperatures all day wearing black. This day may go down in history. I had TWO salads. Yes, TWO. What is going on with me? As usual, after dinner we needed something sweet. Check out these scrumptious waffle cones! Then the most beautiful sunset on earth occurred. This may be the sole reason I love this place. I took approximately 83.5 more pictures of the sunset, bit this [...]

Harbor Springs.

We just got back from a fun day out and are about to head out for snacks. Check out this adorable General Store: First we went to Harbor Springs – it is one of my favorite places. Just the cutest town. We had to stop in Spoon Fruit for some snacks. And get a little ice cream. Kilwin’s has the best peanut butter-chocolate ice cream I have ever had. It has been that way my entire life. Gigantic chunks of peanut butter! We had lunch on the water and I had an amazing salmon salad: Then we walked it off and spent some time in the sun. Then we headed to Bay Harbor for cocktails. Lots more pictures to come!
