Trivia Friday #9.

Happy Friday. :)

Every year since I can remember, my dad has delivered poinsettias to friends and family. Since we have our own house now, we got one too.

IMG_2877

It is gorgeous and ginormous and we have no place other than the floor for it. But we love it! Thanks, Dad!

In need of some appetizers for the weekend? Check out the appetizer recap!

IMG_2311

Do you do any holiday baking?

One of the reasons I love our house:

IMG_2767

Counter space. And this is only 1/3 of it.

Speaking of these cookies:

IMG_2766

I already need to make more, because we’ve eaten an entire double batch. Oops.

And the red velvet cookies are on their way out, too.

IMG_2791

Something I don’t have? Restraint.

If you’re looking for an amazing dish for Christmas, try this Lobster Mac & Cheese.

IMG_0796

It is mouth-watering, cheesy, and worth every additional 6lbs you gain from it.

Today will be the last trivia for 2009! I decided to skip out on Christmas Day…just because. :) The winner will be randomly drawn tomorrow.

And what will you win?

A bottle of my most favorite balsamic vinegar from Williams Sonoma. Yum!

25-Year Barrel-Aged Balsamic Vinegar

To play:

Enter you answers in the comments section. It won’t appear, but will be made public tomorrow morning. If you’ve entered the last 2 weeks, you have 3 chances to win! Have fun. :)

Questions:

1. Which Spice Girl was the first to marry?
2. In 1998 who did Vanity Fair describe as “simply the world’s biggest heart throb?”
3. What part of the banana is used to make banana oil?

One of these may be tricky. ;)

Update your google readers!! http://feeds.feedburner.com/howsweeteats/smSp     I’ve talked about Mother Lovett alot. And I have so much more to say. I’m not sure  if anything can beat the time we served her half a cake on her birthday. It doesn’t matter though. She wasn’t tall enough to see the non-existent half.   Soon I’ll tell that tale of grocery shopping with Mother Lovett. Because who wouldn’t love hearing about a 4’9,” 88 year old munchkin, who passed gas with every step she took, while screaming 3 aisles away from you ‘don’t forget the stool softener!‘?   But that’s neither here nor there.     I’ve only spoken a little bit about the other one. How classy she is. How sweet. How positive. What could make her classier? More sweet?   How about drinking beer out of 32 ounce stein?   That could make anyone positive. And classy.   My dad took this picture at the Hofbrauhaus. Have you ever been? If not, then you probably don’t understand why this picture is blurry. That’s ok.       I’m so excited because my friends Kelly and Dan are coming for dinner tonight. They have the cutest baby ever, and if you’ve [...]

Friday Trivia #7.

Friday Trivia is back with a whole new round! You have 4 chances to win this month, and I’ll actually be announcing the winner on Dec 30th – don’t want to interfere with your party plans. I promise I won’t forget this time. Eek! The prize will be announced on the 15th. What do you think it will be? Hmm…   Have you been doing much Christmas baking? I haven’t started yet, but will definitely be making these for the holidays.     Oreo Balls.     Peppermint Chocolate Cookies.     Not to mention, all of those holiday appetizers! Which one is your favorite so far?   Here are your guidelines: -3 questions are posted Friday morning.    -You have until midnight (EST) Friday to qualify –leave your answer in the comments section.   -The comments will not be made public until Saturday. I will get it, but it will not appear. So please do not comment 324 times like I have in situations like these. One comment per person.   -Everyone who answers correctly will be entered into a drawing for an awesome prize EVERY MONTH. This means if you participate in FOUR trivia Fridays in one month, you have [...]

Trivia Friday #6

Update your readers! http://feeds.feedburner.com/howsweeteats/smSp     How was everyone’s Turkey Day?    Mine was wonderful. With the risk of sounding like a broken record, I have the MOST amazing family in the world and am so incredible blessed.     At my parent’s house, we had an extra guest this year.         This is Opus. He is incredibly cute, devilish, and loves table scraps.       He and Winnie fought over the dropped goodies.       My uncle started the evening off right by filling the fruit bowls full of Chardonnay instead of fruit.     Fruit? Chardonnay? Same thing. It’s all going to the same place. Bottoms up.     I managed to hold myself to one plate at each of my Turkey dinner’s. This here was vegetables, vegetables, more vegetables, and a side of carbs.       It was fantastic, and my belly button and elastic-waist pants are getting quite friendly at the moment.   I gorged myself on desserts, including this mini slice of pumpkin pie.     Then devoured 18 cupcakes.     My fruit dish wine glass was empty by this point, so I moved on to my husband’s. [...]

Trivia Friday #5

Update your google readers! http://feeds.feedburner.com/howsweeteats/smSp     Have you guys checked out my frequently asked fitness questions?     Don’t miss this comforting cheese soup – make it this weekend!     Last night I made vegetarian enchiladas. I just threw a bunch of stuff together, and they came out amazing. I have made chicken enchiladas for years, and I make them every few weeks for my husband and brothers. I was hesitant about making veggie ones, since I don’t really like veggies.      To make: I sauteed- potato chunks chopped onion red and green peppers mushrooms garlic   Once they were soft, I added in 1/2 cup black beans, 1/2 cup refried beans, and 1 cup of enchilada red sauce. After the mixture thickened, I added some monteray jack cheese. I used La Tortilla Factory high-fiber tortillas in the green onion flavor – this flavor is incredible! I highly recommend it.  I covered my enchiladas in sauce and cheese, then baked for about 20 minutes. They were very tasty.      Friday Trivia #5! Remember, you are entering to win a copy of the popular Martha Stewart’s Cookies – just in time for the holidays! If you already [...]

Update your google readers! http://feeds.feedburner.com/howsweeteats/smSp     Can someone please tell me how I managed to go through these in less than a month?     I have a serious dazzleglass addiction. And the only cure is…more dazzleglass.   SO….remember way back when I mentioned there would be a prize for a lucky Friday Trivia winner at the end of each month? I was originally going to post the prize on the 15th of each month, and still will.   But, since it is that *creepy* Friday the 13th, I’ve been listening to Christmas tunes for 10 days now, and I have tons of super-cool readers (thats you!), I am certainly feelin’ the love.     The first prize to go for Friday trivia is…     Martha Stewart’s Cookies!   Just in time for some Christmas baking. If you already have it, it would make an excellent stocking stuffer! I am already excited for the winner because I have checked out this book for months! I do not own it (yet!) but would love to spend a few hours drooling over perusing the pages with a frothy peppermint mocha.   Remember – if you entered and answered correctly before, you [...]

Please update your google readers! http://feeds.feedburner.com/howsweeteats/smSp   Enter the American Spoon GIVEAWAY!   Longest. Week. Ever. You agree? Or was it just me?     My breakfasts got more exciting by the day, so I needed to share.    Boring, normal oats.    -oats -organic skim milk -banana -cinnamon -vanilla extract -dark chocolate dreams peanut butter       I needed more spice in my life.     So the next day, to Miss Yum Yucky’s belief, I added ice cream to my oats, a la Sarah and Holly.         Yes, this is as absolutely amazing as it looks. Just imagine that ice cream melting into the warm oats. No words. -oats -organic skim -banana -cinnamon -vanilla extract -2 tablespoons Coconut Bliss Coconut ice cream       I’d had enough of oats. So in comes protein pancakes. Pumpkin protein pancakes, to be exact.     In my pancakes: -1/2 cup oatmeal -1/4 cup cottage cheese -2 egg whites -1/4 cup canned pumpkin -vanilla -cinnamon -pumpkin pie spice I use my reason for living mini food processor to blend the oats, then add the rest of the ingredients.       I partied even harder the next morning, [...]

Trivia Friday #2.

chili

My husband brought home pumpkins to carve on Wednesday night. This really excited me because I LOVE carved pumpkins, and we didn’t get any last year since we lived in this place.     He was all gung ho about carving the pumpkins that night, on Wednesday. However, it was raining here in Pittsburgh and I didn’t want our pumpkins to be ruined by Saturday.     Me: I think we should carve the pumpkins the day before Halloween. They might rot if we carve them now. My husband: Why? Does your dad carve them the day before Halloween?     Things like this are a running joke between my husband and me. Well, at least I think they are a running joke.     I have not failed to mention how exceptional my life, family, and childhood are and have been. I feel very blessed and my brothers and I have all turned out alright. I also have so many wonderful memories of my childhood – and they are all so good – that I would like to do everything my way.     Stubborn?   Not me. No way. I am not at all like Mother Lovett.   [...]
