Feeling Like A Kid + Upper Body with Resistance Bands.

IMG_2605

This weekend we had a light touch of snow.   I get so excited by snow. I love it. And I know I haven’t failed to mention how much I love the holidays.   I truly feel like a kid. I don’t feel like I’m 27. I feel like I’m 7. I’m sure this just thrills my husband. It also probably explains my behavior.   I have never, ever, ever wanted the holidays to be over. They still give me a sense of magic. I’m sure it stems from growing up with an exceptional childhood. I still want to spend Christmas Eve at my parent’s house.   And I’m not referring to presents. Yes, I love them. Yes, if you want to buy me some Christian Louboutin shoes I would gladly accept. But what it all comes down to for me? It’s family. I think my siblings and cousins would agree that spending Christmas Eve at Mother Lovett’s house is one of our best memories. Even the year when my cousin, Chris, nailed me in the face with a ball right before I had to sing at midnight mass. Thanks, Chris.   It’s the memories like those that I [...]

Guilt + Full Body Workout.

IMG_2577

I was so tired after the shopping extravaganza last night that I forgot to include any non-margarita pictures.   Mother Lovett always yelled at me when I did everything cracked eggs over the bowl of dough. She told me to crack them into a smaller bowl. I learned the hard way one day when I was making chocolate chip cookies with the last of my flour and sugar. I dropped the entire egg into the mix – shell and all, ruining the entire batch.   I obviously didn’t learn my lesson. Apparently, I should also crack eggs in a separate bowl when making ‘egg in a hole.’   My attempt at cracking it on the side of the skillet failed. It fell right into the pan, missing the hold completely.     My brother brought home his girlfriend this weekend, who is the coolest chick ever. Oh, she is also stunningly gorgeous.   What makes her even cooler? She borrowed these 2 ripe avocados for me on Friday night from the restaurant we were at.   Before you yell at me, let me explain. The service was not the best and we waiting 20 minutes for our drinks and water.  We almost [...]

Treadmill HIIT.

marg

Happy Sunday!   How much Christmas shopping did you get done this weekend? I shopped most of today, and love the hustle and bustle. I will be making many more trips before December 25th. I find this time of year to be magical.   Speaking of December, have you written down any goals you were planning on saving for the new year?? I had managed to get in all of my fruits and veggies until today. Tomorrow is a new day!    The weekend was great – filled with holiday cheer.     And left me with a few reasons to have some great workouts this coming week!     25 Days of Workouts Workout #5 – Treadmill HIIT I’ve posted some of my own HIIT workouts before, and discussed HIIT more thoroughly in this post. I’ve had some requests to post a treadmill HIIT example, and I hope you remember that it is just that – an example. HIIT will be differently for everyone, as each person’s threshold is different. Remember – true HIIT is very short intervals – much less than 60 seconds. If you are doing 60 second intervals, it is not HIIT. That is interval training, which [...]

Burpees + Full Body Quickie.

As the week goes on, are you finding it harder and harder to stick to your December to Remember goals?   I must admit – it always gets tough for me around Thursday. Thursday is the start of the weekend. I want treats and drinks to quench my thirst. And to not follow the rules.   But I also feel fabulous knowing that if I stick to these goals, I will be so much happier come January. And of course, I will have some treats this weekend, absolutely guilt free.   Stick to it, guys! It will be very rewarding, I promise.   Some of you asked what a burpee is. Here is a video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MGljX4bbps   Yes, these are very advanced. For beginners, you can do these without the pushup at the bottom. And yes, sometimes there is controversy surrounding burpees. Do I agree? Not at all. If you are doing them for the first time, you should be surpervised and I always recommend being supervised. Esepcially when it comes to form. But do I find them dangerous? No. (Would I have an very overweight/first-timer/elderly/health-risk/unfit person do it? Of course not.) You may fall on your face [...]

At-Home Cardio Blast.

Good evenin’!    Ah, did the alarm come early this morning. I woke up earlier than normal to meet Kema at the gym, and we had a fun workout. Originally we were meeting Wednesday-Friday, but due to some schedule conflicts, we aren’t meeting tomorrow. After 30 minutes of cardio, we did some upper body:   Reverse Grip Lat Pulldowns 4 x 12 x 90lbs super-setted w/ Chest Press 4 x 12 x 30lb dumbbells T Bar Row 4 x 12 x 95lbs super-setted w/ Overhead Press 4 x 12 x 25lb dumbbells Side Lateral Raise 3 x 12 x 12lb dumbbells super-setted w/ Triceps Pushdown 3 x 12 x 65 Biceps Curls 3 x 10 x 25lb dumbbells   I’ve had a tough time trying to get in my 3 fruits and veggies today! I have 3 fruits in (of course), but only one veggie. With no plans to have one for dinner, today was a veggie fail. Maybe I’ll have a sweet potato?   Have you written down your goals yet? I promise it makes a huge difference. Try it!     25 Days of Workouts: WORKOUT #3 – At Home CARDIO BLAST Find yourself pressed for time with [...]

Abs Are Made In The Kitchen + Lower Body Blast.

Hey guys.   Still making it a December to Remember?   So far I have 2 fruits and 2 veggies down: apple, banana, spinach, and spring greens. I really appreciate having my goals somewhere visible. Not only does it remind me what I want to accomplish, but makes me feel blessed that I can accomplish it.   As for workouts, today is just a 20 minute HIIT session since I meet Kema for the next 3 days. I have some kick-butt workouts planned for us, and I love working out with a buddy. Especially one who is strong, relishes in lifting challenging weight and loves to push herself. I heart her. <3   How do you make your abs?   For years, I exercised, ate healthy with lots of splurges, and did abdominal work everyday. I have a thicker build and am very muscular. I thought abs just weren’t in the cards for me. My stomach has always been very flat, but I wanted the envied ’6 pack’.   Fast forward to when I was 17, and began thoroughly researching fitness and nutrition, and falling in love with it. I knew that I would need to really clean up [...]

Monday, Monday + Upper Body Blast.

snack1130

How was your Monday?   I never remember it being this difficult to get back in the grind after a holiday. It must be my old age.   Have you started to make this a December to Remember? With tomorrow being December 1st, you still have 31 whole days to start living your healthiest life NOW – long before January 1st. Get that head start!   I highly encourage you to write your goals down and place them somewhere you can see them. Even if you are not participating in the December challenge, it is always exhilarating to have a goal to work towards. It doesn’t even have to be a fitness goal – it can be any goal. Believe it and it will happen.   Since tomorrow is the real beginning of December, I decided to post my meals today to kick off my own challenge. This also gives you an idea of what I eat everyday, and more specifically Monday through Friday, when I’m on more of a schedule.   I had a huge green monster for breakfast, but didn’t take a pic since I was sooo out of it a bit rushed this morning. It was [...]

Pumpkin Shortage Victim.

IMG_2443

I spent last night and the majority of the morning making some goodies for today and the holiday weekend.   I made vanilla bean cupcakes:       Chocolate fudge cupcakes with bailey’s frosting (got this idea from Gina):       Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies with marshmallows:       And pumpkin spice balls, covered in milk chocolate instead of white.     I am now off to make Maria’s apple galette.   Oh, and on a serious note, do you think I have enough powdered sugar?     I waited until the last minute to begin baking last night. I was sure I had canned pumpkin in my pantry. Wouldn’t you think it was somewhere in there?     Luckily my mom came through and had 3 cans. Good thing she taught me how to hoard items.   One good thing came out of the no-pumpkin-left-grocery-trip last night. I bought this cheesy bread, because I just didn’t think I’d get enough cheese, bread and carbs this weekend.     It is incredible, and even better with butter and eggs.     I made sure to get a workout in this morning, so I can eat 6 bowls of [...]

I Love Sparkles.

IMG_2383

Good evening!   Today was pretty uneventful, and now we are one week closer to Thanksgiving!   For dinner, I threw the Firecracker shrimp into some pasta. It was delicious – it is so much more versatile than your plain old cocktail shrimp. I didn’t snap a picture since I have a hungry, angry husband, but it was tasty.     When I arrived home tonight, I saw a package at my front door. I was pretty suprised being that I haven’t online shopped recently, something I dislike, but my bank account likes.   I opened it to find this incredibly cute cupcake garland from my Aunt Ann, who lives in San Diego.         Isn’t this just so adorable?! Of course, I love it because I love all things that sparkle. Thank you so much, Aunt Ann!!   I snuck in an awesome workout that consisted of: *30 minutes on the elliptical *30 minutes of full body alternating lunges 3 x 20 x 25lb dumbbells + incline chest presses 3 x 12 x 30lb dumbbells squats 3 x 15 x 35lb dumbbells + seated row 3 x 10 x 90lbs stiff-legged deadlifts 3 x 12 x 110lbs [...]
