Cream Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies.
This here is a recipe I found deep in the pages of one of Mother Lovett’s recipe books. You know, those crazy-beautiful books from the 1950’s that have yellow pages? I wrote about them a few weeks ago. They certainly are a treasure to me.
Since I know no restraint when it comes to cream cheese, I figured I would LOVE this recipe. Anything to make my inner thighs jiggle more and begin stretching the seam of my pants.
Oh wait. That already happens.
This time I don’t just have butter. I have cream cheese.
Ingredients in the morning sunshine.
Creamed butter and cream cheese.
This went into my mouth. Suprised?
This is obviously your first time visiting.
And I also licked this clean.
It was delicious.
I used milk chocolate chips. Not dark.
Because I hate anything that is deemed ‘good’ for me just really love milk chocolate.
Ready to go in the oven.
The finished product.
Can I tell you a secret?
Thanks. Don’t tell anyone.
I didn’t like these cookies. They were not sweet enough for me. Which, luckily for you, means that you would most likely love them. I have the sweetest teeth known to man.
My husband and brother LOVED them.
They are also the kind of people that sometimes find certain desserts ‘too rich.’
Yeah. Those people.
Ugh. They are luckily they are family.
I just don’t get the concept. There has never been anything too sweet or too rich for me.
I wanted to throw these cookies out. That led to a giant fight, because my husband suggested I was wasting food.
He obviously has not looked at my thights, butt, hips, stomach, and arms.
So, in my honest opinion, these did turn out perfectly. I think most of you would absolutely love them, so I urge you to give them a try. They do have a slight sweetness to them just not enough for my whacked out tastebuds.
Cream Cheese Chocolate Cookies

1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup chocolate chips

Cream butter, sugar, eggs, and cream cheese together. Add vanilla and mix. Stir in flour and salt, just until blended. Fold in chocolate chips.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden brown.

No desserts are too rich for me either, sigh. They look absolutely delicious!
Yum! I love cream cheese so I’m bookmarking this recipe! I don’t really care for dark choc either! Milk chocolate is amazing.
“Yeah, THOSE people.”
Hahaha :-D
ahh thank you SO much for this recipe :) sounds great!
Those look really good actually :)
Those cookies actually look really good!
My husband’s the same way… He even hates cheesecake!!!!
Haha. Seriously, I love your writing style. I’m pretty sure I’ve made that comment on at least one other post, but it is still true ;)
i do not understand “too rich”.
too rich is just right.
K… they look goood BUT i can see how they wouldn’t be sweet enough! Hey you live and learn… lol :)
oh yummy!!!!!!! Those cookies just stole my heart :) Great recipe!
I have always wondered about these but have never made them. I’m glad you told your honest opinion, I love my goodies “super sweet”, too, and don’t think I’d like them. They look good, though! I have some family members who would gobble them up.
i haven’t met a cookie i didn’t like! they look good to me! sorry you weren’t a fan. :)
MY husband is also one of “those people” and I just can’t wrap my brain around it either. I will have to make these for him…maybe I won’t end up eating the entire batch myself. :-)
Hmm..I’m with ya. I LOVE sweet sweet cookies. So not sure if I would make these :) Also don’t enjoy the jiggle of my thighs lol
gotta say i enjoyed reading your post. real. amusing. real.
as the author of a chocolate book i do tout the dark stuff but milk chocolate has its merits. and eating the “bad” stuff? no worries…moderation. did i say i enjoy reading your post? i wish i would have kept my mom’s cookbooks. i miss them so much. like old friends. it was a different time in the fifties. crisco, margarine, processed, frozen foods were the “good stuff”–go figure.

How would they be if you just added more sugar? I like mine sweet too. Do you want a recipe for a WONDERFUL apple dumpling…it is very sweet!
I have to make these… no… I NEED to make these. I really don’t like standard chocolate chip cookies. These sound and look incredible to me.
I prefer milk chocolate as well! Especially when it comes to chocolate chip cookies.
I like not to sweet things and love cream cheese. These look PERFECT!
Cream cheese? In cookies???? Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about that. Sorry you weren’t a big fan of the final product. Baking is always fun regardless of how it turns out ;)
You’ve never had cream cheese in cookies?!? I haven made these yet, but I normally make Italian fig spiral cookies that have a cream cheese base and several others that all use the same cream cheese cookie dough (cinnamon nut spirals, Mexican chipolte chocolate bites, and hazelnut thumbprints). It is delicious, soft, tender, slightly sweet. Definatly give it a try!!
I love baking with cream cheese! It gives such a great creaminess to baking products.
So sad you did not like your cookies. I hate it when I cook or bake and I don’t like what I did!
Oh I like its color! a white chocolate chip cookies just look so special compared to those supermarket ones :)
Too funny! I also have yet to find a dessert that was too sweet for me. Not that I like my thighs to jiggle either (don’t tell anyone, but they do), but I just love sweets.
Well. I already decided I liked you before I read this post. And now I can say that i TOTALLY like you! I have that same problem with things not being sweet enough. Or should I say… nothing is TOO sweet!! My hubby is the same way as yours. Makes me crazy sometimes.
Blessings!
Amanda
Those look pretty darn good (I’m also a sucker for cream cheese anything) and I may be one of “those people” gahhh…. and your post cracked me up, completely. :)
Jessica, these look wonderful. I’m with you with sweet sweet cookies. Did you watch the Steelers win while making these? That would be two times more fun. Thanks for sharing! Amy
These sound fantastic, I love adding cream cheese to cookies, it makes them so moist!
You are a girl after my own heart. Nothing is too sweet! I was working on a food styling job last week and had an entire sheet cake in front of me but had no desire to eat it. Why? No frosting! Give me a bowl of frosting and I’m good.
Great blog!
xo
haha i wish i was one of ‘those’ people hahahaha sadly I would probably eat that entire plate!
they look deliicious jess!! :) the idea of adding cream cheese to choclate chip cookies sounds fantastic!!
I’m the same way – I don’t know how any dessert is “too rich”! That’s just crazy talk :)
Haha! I’m one of ‘those people’. I didn’t used to be, but we started eating a lot less sugar a few years after we were married, cutting back on the amount in recipes and eating few premade baked goods. Now, while I still like rich sweets, I can’t eat too much of them.
Bah! Enough about the why! I love cream cheese, and these look fabulous.
I looove cream cheese. Dangerous. Interesting about them not being sweet enough. I have a major sweet tooth too but I have vowed to eat less sugar!

I had to try these as soon as I saw the recipe. But I agree with you, they are not sweet enough for me either. I love the texture though; they are soft and moist and not too chewy or crispy. I think I will play around some more and see if I can sweeten them up a little more. Thank you!
I tried these with 3/4 cup white sugar and 3/4 cup brown sugar. They still seemed a little under-sweet to me. The batter seemed fine, but something when they baked? My husband enjoyed them though, he doesn’t care for sweets too much and he loves the texture. He’s a fan of fluffy, soft cookies.
i’m always looking for the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe and these looked interesting, but the “not sweet enough” comment scared me because i love sweet. anyway, i added another 1/2 cup of sugar and a 1/2 cup of chocolate chips and they were great! different texture than most, but really good!
again – reading this from the beginning – i just made these but instead of vanilla, used strawberry extract and instead of regular cream cheese, used bruegger’s bagels’ flavor of the month: dulce de leche. and because it is almost valentines, i added pink food coloring — they’re amazing!! (i also added 2 tbs of brown sugar, since i too need cookies to be incredibly sweet)
Those sound SO good! I think I need to give them a try!!

Being somebody who rarely has a craving for sweets, these were perfect! I even took out the chocolate chips and they turned out beautifully. Thanks a bunch! I’ll be sure to keep checking back for more fun recipes!

I’ve been making this cookie for years. I don’t measure, I go by look and feel. Must say I use way more cream cheese in mine. They are really good and not made often by anyone except me it seems because the response is always over the top.
Just made these today, and YUM, they remind me very much of those old packaged Dad’s cookies! I did almost double the sugar though. ;-)
