We loved these so much that they never even made it into the cookie jar. Well, maybe I loved them so much. I can only remember my husband eating one. Slacker.
I think they are a form of a meringue, but having never made meringues before (!), I can’t be sure. I just know that they came close to the chocolate chewies from Whole Foods, which I’m busy trying to replicate.
I also ate these like I do the chocolate chewies, shoving 4 in my mouth at one time because I just can’t get enough.
So simple – I just beat some egg whites, cocoa and sugar.
And folded in some dark chocolate chips.
See where I’m going with this?
Egg whites. Dark chocolate.
We have a healthy cookie here.
Well, close to healthy if I had omitted the entire cup of sugar.
Oh, well. :)
I plopped big dollops on a baking sheet, and into the oven they went for 8 hours.
For future reference: this is not a cookie to make if you are craving sweets now. They need to be in the oven for 8 hours, without the door being opened.
This is difficult since I’m an oven-peeper. If you’re like me, make them right before bed time.
See how pretty?
Sin City Cookies
2 egg whites
3/4 cup sugar
2 heaping tablespoons cocoa powder
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375.
Beat egg whites, sugar, and cocoa until stiff peaks form. Fold in chocolate chips. Spoon onto baking sheet and place in oven.
Turn oven off and let sit for 8 hours. Do not open the oven door.
Eat up.
But if you want 6-pack abs, only have a few. :)
Friday Trivia Winner!
My apologies for forgetting to announce the winner of Martha’s Cookie’s yesterday! See, I literally wrote each name down on a piece of paper and threw it into a hat. I figured it was the most fair way. However, it was a bit time consuming.
So who is our winner??
Congrats Sarah Jayne! Email me at merchant.jessica@gmail.com with your info. :)

Hey! I just wanted to ask something, how much time does one leave the oven turned on while the cookies are inside? does one turn the oven off imediately after puting the cookies in?
