Chocolate Cherry Almond Butter.
I have never been able to get into almond butter.
The reason? It just isn’t sweet enough for me.
And I don’t want to hear any of that mumbo jumbo about how if I really savor the taste, I can find it’s natural sweetness.
Because that is what everyone tells me about vegetables, and that is a blatant lie.
The only way I will ever find vegetables to be sweet, is if I douse them in chocolate fudge sauce.
And I’m sure if I mixed some almond butter with a big glug of chocolate fudge, I would love it, too.
However, I really enjoy almonds, so I wanted to take a jab at trying my own.
I already knew that I don’t particularly enjoy plain almond butter, so I needed to spice it up.
I added a bit of cocoa powder, and a handful of dried cherries from Frog Hollow Farm, which are deliciously fabulous.
Initially, I thought I would need to add some sweetness, such as maple syrup, but the dried cherries did the job.
Chocolate Cherry Almond Butter

- 1/4 cup dried cherries
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- pinch of sea salt
Instructions
- Add almonds to food processor and blend until smooth. Add in the rest of ingredients, streaming in canola oil, and pulsing to combine. Blend until smooth.

I appreciate you so much!
I love making my own nutbutter’s at home.
I usually have most ingredients on hand, and it only takes a few minutes.
It is also more economic, and that leaves me more money to buy shoes.
I would starve for a few months for a pair of Christian Louboutin’s.

I love this! I want to try it without the chocolate. I know, I’m a weirdo…I’m not a huge fan of chocolate flavored things.
i tried ONCE to make almond butter and it was a major fail! I roasted them first and ended up burning them, but went ahead and made them anyways, turns out I wasted so many almonds making crappy tasting AB..this looks fool proof, Jess!! so so so good…can I pay you to come over and make me some?! :)
That looks so yummy! Love your blog

OMG me too. I have never, ever ever bought almond butter. I get tons sent to me and although it’s “fine” I give it to scott n skylar and go for PB or Sunflower seed!!! for myself.
Great job on making your own and saving up for those Christian L’s :)
Re emailing, I haven’t had any time! Been slammed with life stuff. No extra puter time, but I love it. It’s awesome and i can’t wait to get more and more into it, that’s the cliff note’s version :)
xoxo
I love your additions to the almond butter. Much more delicious your way!
I am not the biggest fan of almond butter either but I really like it with carrots and pears. I made my own and it was good but still a little bland. The next way I’m going to try is roasting the almonds [which I heard works better] and coating them with a little maple syrup. Yours sounds really good too!

WOW! This looks amazing! I love making stuff like this at home – I think it comes out so much better! Will definitely be trying this…
I love that you made this almond butter. I am usually good to go with it straight out of the jar, but the cherries and cocoa powder make it such a treat! xo
I want to try the nut butter recipe. Yea for shoes and handbags! Just got a LV handbag and I LOVE it. It was worth saving for.
YOu and your hubby are the best! XO
That looks great! I always enjoy cherries and almonds together, so I’m sure they are fantastic in the nut butter.
It took me a long time to like almond butter, and I only like it in oats (where I also add chocolate chips, coconut, etc. to sweeten it up). It is very bland normally, but your recipe sounds anything but!

While wild almond species are toxic, domesticated almonds are not; Jared Diamond argues that a common genetic mutation causes an absence of glycoside amygdalin, and this mutant was grown by early farmers, “at first unintentionally in the garbage heaps, and later intentionally in their orchards”. ..

So what’s the bread you have in the picture. It seems a waste to buy expensive ingredients (almonds) and spread them on white toast.
