Afternoon Delight: Sweet and Savory Egg Bagel.
I could eat breakfast all day long.
Sometimes I do.
(*cough* bacon *cough)
It’s no secret that I love the sweet and savory combo.
Mr. How Sweet is in the midst of a heated love affair with these bagel thins. I could take ’em or leave ’em, since I don’t really care for bread. I know. Gasp away. It’s a sin.
But in this case, I love them!
My lunch consisted of a whole wheat bagel with 2 eggs over medium, monterey jack cheese, and superfruit jam.
My heart is still singing.

*cough* delicious *cough
Oh yum! I’ve been seeing egg sandwiches all over the blog world lately. I MUST have one! I can’t believe bacon was left off this sandwich!
I can’t say I have ever wanted to mix jam with an egg. But if you like it, it must be good!
Droooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool.
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacon.
Egggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg.
I hope this comment didn’t annoy you. But gosh. You annoy me with all this deliciousness.
mmmm sweet and savory, my favorite! I’ve never had jam and eggs, but jam and cheese is rocking!
Egg + jam sounds very interesting. I’ve never tried that kind of combo, but I’m never one to shy away from weird food combos. Thanks for the inspiration! Looks like a delish lunch.

I am slowly but surely getting used to sweet and salty foods mixed! I think I never liked them because I wasn’t raised with any sweet and savory combinations. My parents hate them!
I used to put grape jelly on my scrambled eggs when I was a kid. I thought I was alone in that. Apparently not. :) I’m totally making this.
Nothing is better than eggs and jam!!! :)
I want to eat this right now for my breakfast. It looks delicious!
Mmm, mmm mmm. I LOVE sweet & savoury!!

Have you tried the everything version of the bagel thins? I like them much better than the whole wheat.
I have not. I want too, but Mr. How Sweet won’t even touch white bread (unless it’s a 10-meatball sub or a 1lb burger). I was afraid the entire thing would go to waste, but everything bagels are my favorite so I need to just bite the bullet.
dangit. Now I’m hungry again.
Jam on a breakfast sandwich?!? Girl, you are ON to something! I just bought a new apple butter. I do believe it would be PERFECT for this!
I love the addition of jam to this sandwich–good thinking!
ok. let’s talk.
when i first moved to Texas,
seven years ago,
or so
I worked as an office manager at this place called CAVO
(cavo means cable in italian.
and i just realized i could talk for HOURS about CAVO. so warning. you may hear more about it in the future.)
When I became office manager, I was the only girl in the office.
and in our branch.
so it was me and the guys.
i was also 20 years old.
so it was basically me working with a bunch of uncles/cousins/brothers.
it was fun.
There were three other managers in the office. Kevin, Bob, and Pappy. Pappy’s real name was Darrel, but he was basically like everyones grandfather, and so we called him Pappy.
Pappy and Kevin came to Texas from Oklahoma to work in the office.
And Bob came from Indiana.
And, as you know, I was from Wisconsin.
So – basically – we were “not from round these parts.”
so we got along swimmingly.
and becasue we were with one another in the office for about 12 hours each day, we were like a little family.
Down the road for our office was a little gas station that also had cafe type food to go in it. i dont mean premade plastic wrapped food that comes by delivery truck. I mean, they had a little kitchen area and they cooked up breakfast and lunch each day.
There were several, SEVERAL days, that I would be in my office excel-spreadsheeting it up, and there would be a knock on my door. Pappy, Kevin, or Bob (and occasionally one of our field guys) would appear with a breakfast sandwich for me to feast on.
I was always SO SHOCKED that Pappy and Kevin liked to eat jam on their breakfast sandwiches. i just didnt get it. I liked ketchup, if anything, and the idea of strawberry spread with my eggs and ham, or sausage, or bacon, made my head spin.
After I left CAVO, and started working in Youth Ministry, a lot of weekend road trips with student leadership team included breakfast to go in the form of sandwiches, as well. and sure enough, those southernbelles and beaus liked to slather on the jam to their english muffin, egg and cheese stacks.
A few months ago, a friend from high school, Nikki, who now lives in NYC, was in the Albany area for work. We were quite excited to be able to meet for dinner and drinks while she was in town, and i wanted to gift her some “local treats” to take back to East Village with her.
I found this great little local farm that sold jams, and fruit butter spreads. I picked up a few jars for her along with locally baked breads and crackers -and couldn’t resist purchasing a jar of Sweet Cherry Butter for myself as well. I ate it in oats. and on sandwiches with Peanut Butter, and Almond Butter. (healthy ashley would tell you that i should stop capitalizing words that dont need to be capitalized in the middle of sentences. but my arguement is that Sweet Cherry Butter, Peanut Butter, and Almond Butter are all foods that DESERVE to be capitalized no matter where they show up. So do Cookies, which I told my boss about an hour ago, that Cookies is my favorite food group.)
and then, im not sure how it happened.
one morning, i fried up two egg whites.
I toasted two pieces of multrigrain bread from the local market.
i crumbled some goat cheese atop one slice of the lightly toasted bread, added the egg, a few pieces of slightly crispy turkey bacon, and then a light bulb went off.
SWEET CHERRY BUTTER.
and so i smeared.
and i took a bite.
and another.
and another.
and i teared – shedding “nothing has ever tasted better” molecules of bliss.
and now.
i’m here.
looking at your afternoon delight.
and reminising on that first bite.
and knowing exactly what i will be eating for dinner.
my mouth is watering.
I never would have thought to put jam and egg together…I’m intrigued. But, not sure if I’m intrigued enough to try it…I’ll have to stew on this. :)
Totally have never heard of those!! They seem healthier.. and the way you have presented them, they actually look delicious!
Blessings-
Amanda
I could eat that bagel several times a day ;)

Now that is a serious breakfast (or lunch in this case). The best part is that it looks terribly sinful but it’s really not! Me likes. A lot. Happy Saturday!
