Melon Slush.
Sometimes I can go a little overboard.
I know that may be a shock.
But 2 week ago I bought enough watermelon and cantaloupe to feed a small country.
Or just to feed Mr. How Sweet.
But then he went out of town and didn’t eat it.
He probably feels the same way about melon that he does about salad – why waste the calories?
So I whipped up this little concoction to help me survive the near-100 degree temperatures.
I am not a fan of the heat. I really hate to be hot, unless I am working out.
My worst nightmare is going somewhere mid-day where the sun beats down on me. I sweat like a man. I look like a drowned rat. Even Mr. How Sweet gets a little embarrassed.
On one of our first dates he took me to a baseball game. Big mistake.
The heat makes me whine. And complain. I can’t stand the stickiness of my legs on the back of a chair.
See, I’m even complaining now. I can’t believe the relationship worked out with my heat-induced crankiness.
Now when it’s out hot out, I just whip up something like this to remain calm. And sit in an ice bath. And I may whine just a little bit, because that always makes the heat go away.
Melon Slush
Serves 2
1 cup chopped watermelon
1 cup chopped cantaloupe
1/2 cup club soda
1 tablespoon watermelon vodka (I used Three Olives brand)
2 tablespoons coconut rum
handful of ice
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
Since I’m on vacation, Mr. How Sweet is relishing in living with the air conditioning off and the windows open.
If I was home, I would need a gallon of this to survive.

Places to never take Mrs. How Sweet:
1. Horse track in August
2. Company picnic at local amusement park in July
3. Afternoon baseball game in June
4. Nascar or 5K races…well, anytime would be a bad time for that.
I don’t know what’s better, this recipe for a hot summer day, or the places to never take you from Mr. How Sweet. Basically those are places never to take me either, especially #1 or #2!
That looks delicious!
Ha ha! Well, at least he is learning…right!? I am with you, I don’t like to be sweaty and sticky! GROSS! The drink sounds right up my alley! I am always trying to find a nice cocktail I can drink with my husband. I just have the hardest time with that. I bet this would be good with a little coconut milk in it too! HMMM I will definitely try this one out! Enjoy the cool air conditioning today!
This cocktail looks mighty refreshing!!! Thanks for the idea :) :)
I have been buying insane amounts of watermelon and cantaloupe and enjoying every minute :) SO good right now. This slush looks perfect. I have a strange obsession with the heat. I start to hate AC half way through the summer. I’m an odd ball
HAH. I have watermelon slush RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I would say that we are awesome because we think alike, but I forgot the vodka. And rum. And club soda. Daaaaaaang.

You’ll love me. And her.
blech, i hate the heat too. the only good thing about heat is if there’s a pool/beach nearby. otherwise i’m not a fan!
I always overdo it with produce in the summer too :-)
This looks great!
This looks like the perfect summer drink. I love watermelon and cantaloupe (and vodka) so I can imagine how good this must be. By the way, the photos from your last post are absolutely gorgeous! I am super jealous of your vacation. :)
Aw, thanks Jessie! :)

perfect for a warm summer day
What a gorgeous color! And it sounds equally as delicious!!
This might be the only way to get my husband to eat c antelope. I know a man that doesn’t like melons, jk:)
Oh man that sounds so good right now and it is 9 AM ;)
I love the heat! I actually wish it would be hot year round…Regardless, I think I’d rather be in the heat with one of these bad boys :)
Oh and with vodka. I like this a lot! Yum!
What a great use of extra melon.
Look at us and our fabulous summer drinks! I love them both :)
Well hello summer…that looks amazing!!
This is like the epitome of summer in a glass!
I can’t think of anything more refreshing than that. I want 5 please.
Anything with coconut rum HAS to be good :). I hope you are enjoying your vacation!
Ohh that looks so refreshing and purty! I sweat like a man, too. Pit stains from hell. It suxxx!
That drink looks so refreshing! I love watermelon. And I also sweat like a man — I hate being outside in the heat unless I am about to jump in a pool or lake!
i LOVe the idea of blending melons to make a cocktail!! you always see strawberry or pineapple, but raarely a melon drink! YUMMM!! :) (PS-I just sent you an email with your professional opinion as for what I should do) thank you in advanceeeeeee
oh my this slush looks so refreshing! perfect for those hot august days!
I’m like you, I can’t handle the heat, and I am not gracious about it! ;)
Ok. I had to go to this place for work today for a story called orange leaf—oh my God. Look it up. It tastes just like ice cream but it’s healthy, soft serve, low fat. You’d be amazed. I had the PB and was in heaven. They have mango! And it’s not on their site, but they have delightful toppings like sprinkles and candy bars and crushed cookies and even syrups, not just fruit and nuts.
I realize that the rest of the country has been experiencing insane temperatures, but here in Southern California, we’ve been experiencing the BLAHS. All of us are crying for summer and hot weather, so I’m a wee bit jealous.
watermelon vodka & rum? how could this not be insanely good?!!!
1st date scott took me to the airport and we got on a plane. we couldnt date in our area in chicago; too many ppl knew him so we had to take it 2000 miles away. i sucked down so much vodka in the airport that day! it wasnt watermelon though :)
lip balm addict..girl me too beyond even what i blogged about!
I am a small country. All by myself. Now come provide me with some feeds.
This looks fabulous, thanks for sharing! I bet the watermelon vodka does wonders for it. Not that it probably needs wonders done for it. I will be making it this weekend :)

move over gas station slushies, Melon Slush is here! YUMMY <3
That looks very refreshing!
Yummy! So refreshing on theses crazy hot days!
What a perfect combo!!! I love both of those fruits. I love that this could be an alcoholic drink or you could easily turn it into a smoothie, with coconut, yogurt, ice + milk! mmm
This looks great! I don’t really care for cantaloupe that much, but we’ve been getting it in our CSA box this summer. I needed some new ideas because I can’t bear to let it go to waste! I will have to give this a try.
Oh my goodness. This looks magnificent. I’m making some this weekend ; )

I made these slushes tonight for some friends and have to say that they were….okaay. They seemed a little bit bland. For the second pitcher I poured in a splash of apple juice and another splash of pineapple juice and they became the hit of the party! Thanks for the inspiration!
yummy, I made another adding campari, very good
