My Dad’s Holiday Tradition.
I already shared Mr. How Sweet’s Christmas tradition, and now it’s time to share my Dad’s. He has been doing this for over 20 years!
Each December, my Dad buys poinsettias for our family and close friends. As a little girl, we would pick up the flowers on a Saturday and spend the entire day delivering them to our friends and family. This went on for years! It was so much fun. He always ordered both pink and red, and they have always been gigantic. We would fit as many poinsettias in the car as we could, and would obviously have to do this in batches since they were so large.
This morning I went to get my hair done, and when I returned, this was in my house:
Huge is an understatement. Last year, the poinsettia he got us was so big, that I was sure he’d get us a smaller one this year. He had no idea how big it was until he unwrapped it today.
It is enormous!
Mr. How Sweet and I estimate that it may be over 3 feet WIDE. I had to stand on the dining room table to get a picture, and still couldn’t fit the entire thing. It nearly takes up the entire kitchen floor. Isn’t it gorgeous?
I am so glad he gave us a pink one. I am absolutely obsessed with it. Thanks Dad!
Now where in the world are we going to put it?!

This is beautiful! You have a really nice dad. :-)
My mother bought 10 poinsettas on Black Friday because they were $1 each. 24 hours later she started to realize she had no idea what to do with all of them.
So pretty! Love family traditions :).
beautiful! I carry on a bit of a poinsettia tradition myself…I always give one to each of my sis-in-laws around the holidays…although, to be sure, they’re not this size! :) that one is simply amazing!
love,

That is so sweet! I love little traditions like that. Or rather, big traditions like that ;)
What a fun tradition! :) And I love the pink, too.

love your tradition stories! awesome poinsetta too….
when i was little my dad used to make tons of cookies and then we’d make baskets and deliver them to the night shifts at the hospital he ran… i think it was a tradition he got from his parents when my pop pop was a doctor… i always loved seeing the looks on the faces of the people who had to work night shifts on christmas when they got the big basket of cookies…
That is so sweet!
That is beautiful and so sweet! My dad was like that too…he built something different for our families every year…big wooden reindeer for our front yard, nativity scenes of stain glass and wood, gift baskets…you name it! He was the Martha of our family…I love these traditions…you have a special family!
Love that idea!
That is such a sweet tradition!
Awww! That is the nicest!!! What a great dad. <3

That’s gorgeous. I haven’t seen many pink poinsettias but I love them!
That’s so nice of your dad. I little way to give back to the ones you love. :)
What a sweet tradition!!!!!!!!
How cool! I love poinsettias. My mom buys everyone in my family an Amaryllis to grow every year. It’s so fun to see how each of ours turns out.
That is gorgeous!
Love poinsettias! I would totally decorate with them, but I’m afraid my cat would eat the leaves…
What a beautiful plant!
Love this! My kids’ hs swim team sold poinsettias every year as a fundraiser, and I still buy them each year to give to family. Did you know if you can keep them alive til spring, they can be planted outdoors? I use them around our deck – even a small one gets as big as the one in your photo. They look beautiful with hot pink impatiens planted in front of them!
I did not know that! Wow… my family is going to go nuts. I can’t wait to tell them.
3 feet wide? that’s almost as wide as the stroller and 17 bags we brought with us :) we’re here.
Glad you scored such a great poinsettia!
I had no idea you could get a pink poinsetta! I am suddenly amazed!
Awww that’s so sweet. I love that it’s pink- it’s absolutely beautiful!!! :)

I love your Dad’s holiday tradition! That’s awesome!
This is gorgeous! I’m so jealous–we have to stay away from the edible plants because of the cat. what a menace.
What a wonderful tradition!!
Jess; Is’that great wait till you see how it lights up my pad Love Grandpa
Beautiful poinsettia’s! I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in pink.
There are pink poinsettas? Where have I been!!!
So pretty!! I’ve never seen a pink one before.
We actually started skipping these gorgeous Christmas flowers bc they’re super poisonous to the dogs…and mine eat everything that accidentally falls on the ground. and these days many things accidentally fall on the ground. i blame pregnancy.
What a wonderful tradition! Sounds like you have a tight knit group! The only tradition we’ve had is going out for Chinese after Christmas Eve mass. I know it sounds silly but now that I’m doing my own thing (I refuse to say I’ve grown up) I still HAVE to have my Chinese food each Christmas Eve!
I refuse to grow up, period!
What a sweet tradition! Beautiful!
Wow, my Mr. How Sweet came home with a beautiful red one a week or so ago. it also is huge, tall, too. I absolutely am crazy in love with it. When I was a kid I had no idea why people thought they were so beautiful………….but over the last 10 years I have grown to appreciate them, too.
Wow, it’s beautiful! Never seen one that large! Where on earth does he get these??
Just a local florist! He orders them beforehand… been doing it for over 20 years so I think they usually expect him!
Wow!! That is absolutely gorgeous!! I remember going to buy Poinsettias with my Grandma every year to take to people. She would always buy me a small one to put in my bedroom.
