I’ve gotten really good at cleaning as I go….you can do it!! Now, if I could only put the laundry away as I go and not let it pile up in the guest bedroom for a month….
Haha cleaning sucks! The only area of my house I do a decent job of is my kitchen. Of course, that doesn’t mean my dishes. They’re lucky if they even see soap.
For some really bizarre reason, I LOVE laundry! Rarely do I get a full basket before i head to the W/D. But the kitchen? Forget it. I can have small countries growing in my sink before I empty it.
This year I’m going to eat less and move more. Pretty much what I’ve said for the last 30 or so years. Maybe I should say “I resolve not to out run anyone” :)
I laughed! Sorry; but, I couldn’t help myself. You can do it. They say that it takes seven weeks to develop a habit. So, persevere and you’ll make it into a habit. :-)
Ryan would LOVE if I had made this a resolution. He’d probably already have left me due to my inconsiderate non-dish-rinsing ways if he hadn’t found some crazy scraper shaped like an egg that does a decent job removing my crusty food. Instead of addressing my laziness…I resolve to buy more of those scrapers instead. :)
I usually clean up as I go, but not enough according to my mom’s standards! She wipes up every little spill IMMEDIATELY and puts away each ingredient RIGHT after she uses it!
I clean as I go when I’m baking. As soon as I’m done with an ingredient, it goes right in the cabinet. And when I’m done with the measuring cups and bowls, well those go straight in the sink to soak. My husband on the other hand? He likes to leave the messes to me. :-)
Girl i am anal. I will admit it. I HAVE To clean as i go. I cant even enjoy the food until the kitch is clean. Same with my bedroom, bathroom, etc…I cant get ready in a messy place, or sleep…seriously! a little OCD maybe but that’s ok :)
My family has always called it “CAYG” – clean as you go. We have whole conversations about who the best CAYGers are and who’s not very good at CAYGing. :)
I learned to clean as I go from my grandma and it is probably the best cooking/baking advice I’ve gotten! Nothing is worse than finishing a long recipe and having a sink full of dishes.
It’s SO much easier to just clean as you go. I used to do that when I first moved into my own place and then gradually got lazier..now I’m working back into cleaning as I go so as not to be bombarded by a mess later on.
I have to clean as I go. Can’t eat with a mess, can’t shower with a mess, can’t eat until I shower. It’s a problem when I come home dirty and starving and the kitchen is messy. It helps that I can’t stack dishes anywhere though.
I always clean as I go or else I would never cook…because my husband never cleans as he cooks and I have to go behind him and clean up and I let him get away with it because he cooks often and he’s good. Now, I do not clean the floor as I go as I mentioned in that email I sent you a few days ago. And by the way…I made the Scampi, spinach dip and Gorgonzola Stuffed Olives…perfecto! and he kept his promise and made the Whole Wheat Cinnamon Bun Pancakes with Apple Smoked Bacon and Grits for New Year’s morning. And it was all good….thanks again for the recipes.
I will share a website with you all that has changed my life as far as having a clean home and it all starts with shining your kitchen sink!
Go to flylady.net this woman is amazing!
Cleaning as you go gets easier the more you practice – I was notorious in college because I would clean up after a party while the party was still going on…it DOES help if you have a cocktail or two, too! Happy New Year Jess!

So funny you mentioned that. I have 3 large piles of laundry in MY LIVING ROOM.

laundry? that’s what the dining room table is for…..
thus.. another resolution :sigh:
and as for the post New Years’ cocktail? I have 2 teenagers… every day there is a reason for a cocktail…

Happy New Year!!
I need to do the same thing!
haha Love that resolution! My stove is definite need of a biiig scrubbing.

It’s a nice goal! I hate having piles of mess waiting for me at the end of a meal. Ick!
It’s SO much easier to just clean as you go. I used to do that when I first moved into my own place and then gradually got lazier..now I’m working back into cleaning as I go so as not to be bombarded by a mess later on.
That is definitely a key ingredient in cooking! Enjoy that cocktail lady!
omg i always try the “clean as i go” method as much as I can. it really makes a difference!
I kind of like the mess at the end. It makes me feel like some sort of creative genius :)
Ahhh, cleaning WHILE cooking. Don’t they know that multi-tasking is a BAD thing? ;)
I have the same problem. Except I don’t have my own house, so after a big baking marathon my Mom bugs me until I clean it all up. :-?
Cleaning as you go in the kitchen is sooo hard. The only reason why I do it is because I run out of dishes!

I hate to be the voice of reason, but it really is helpful. By the time dinner is done the kitchen is already clean!
You can do it! Think of how good it will feel to have a clean kitchen while enjoying your meal.

Please keep mentioning this periodically, because this is what I’m trying to do for the new year too! Support will be helpful :-)
Ha! Great idea. Now to just do that in my whole house…

Thank you! I think I’ve heard of it… I will check it out.
I am a neat freak, so I am good at cleaning as I go. Laundry? That is another story! :-)
Sounds like a good resolution to me!!
My mom always tells me I make a mess, especially in the kitchen. It seems as though whenever I go in there, I come out all covered in flour. :)
This is something I plan, but never quite works out. There still always seems to be a mess. Good luck and Happy New Year!
