[Really] Random Fat Tuesday.
Tonight’s dinner will be very fitting for the day. I texted Mr. How Sweet about dinner this morning.
His response perfectly describes what our conversations have looked like for the last week. Well, except this one.
I’ve started greasing my cake pans with butter and flour again. The last few years I have been a big cheater, using only non-stick baking spray. But I’ve decided I’m not doing that anymore. There is something I love about buttering up a cake pan. It’s probably since I really pretend it’s 1962 every time I’m in the kitchen.
This is one of our shatterproof glasses that we got for our wedding.
Not so shatterproof, eh?
Mr. How Sweet came home with four pounds of animal crackers yesterday.
Add these to the list of things he eats everyday.
I’ve had James Taylor on repeat for the last five hours. Except for that one Kenny Loggins song I needed to hear righthisminute.
You know you use too many sprinkles when you find them in every nook and cranny possible.
This was like… six days after my last sprinkles usage. I need sprinkles rehab.
I’m off to fry steak. I’m gonna set a tub of Crisco on my counter to set the mood.

I’m one of those lame lurkers, but your James Taylor comments made me come out of the shadows. I lurve me some James Taylor.
Thanks for your fun recipes. Your mushroom chicken is on my short list, but I’m going to pass on the sprinkles. They just do not do it for me. Although they are very cute.
Cheers!
Duh, winning. Perfect.
Have a great dinner and a lovely evening.

But does your hubby have Adonis DNA like my hubby?
I think I just wet myself a little at that text.
Duh. Winning.
Oh my gosh PLEASE post pictures of the chicken fried steak. Are you using PW’s recipe? Your own? I’ve been craving it for literally weeks.
I really don’t use a recipe, just sort of make it up… steak, butter, flour. I posted pics once before: http://www.howsweeteats.com/2010/09/02/a-thursday-feast/
Hahahaha you and Mr. How sweet have the funniest conversations. I love it! I can’t wait to see what you make!
Chicken fried steak sounds pretty good to me! =D
Duh winning, oh how funny you are Mr. How Sweet.
I definitely cheat and spray my pans every time- that is my baking laziness. Weird since everything else I do with baking is the opposite of lazy.
At least the shatterproof glass broke into large, easy-to-spot-and-pick-up pieces.
I’m feeling a bit lazy today… can you make extra chicken fried steak for my family? :P
My little brother (4) and sister (3) have been saying that all week! Haha I think they caught on after I kept saying it ;)
I have sprinkles everywhere too. Not because I bake with them a lot, but because I knocked a container of them off the top of my fridge about 6 months ago, which proceeded to pop open and roll into every crevice of my kitchen. I’m still finding them every time I clean.
I’ve been tempted to try making chicken fried steak before but I was always worried it would end up tough! It does sound delish though.
I get mad at myself anytime I run out of the Pam Baking spray. Oh, I surely do hate greasing and flouring anything! More power to you, though! Go on and be June Cleaver.
The last time I made something with sprinkles was Christmas. I am still finding them.
Really, how does he manage to eat that much?
That’s so funny- that tub of animal crackers is in my kitchen too! I also eat them everyday..I always look forward to it. I’m such a nerd! :)
haha. I like your texting, that is hilarious :)
wellllll to be fair the glass WAS shatterproof.
It didn’t shatter. It just broke.
And never say “too many” and “sprinkles” in the same sentence again.
I don’t even know who you are anymore!
gah! i think my favorite part about making banana bread and muffins is larding the tins! :) setting out crisco to set the mood – girl you make me wanna bake!
My first thought was, “Well, it didn’t ‘shatter’ per say.” I am ALWAYS grateful when they break like that, two kids and a cat are not good around shattered glass.
Oh, and the Ben and Jerry’s Red Velvet Cake was at my local store in the mid-west, so I would think you should be able to find it. (I almost didn’t because it was on the top shelf!)
I literally just typed the first sentence of your comment, looked up, read yours and laughed. It didn’t shatter, a large chunk broke off. lol
bbm! iphone needs a bbm system haha =)
Ahaha – his response is perfect. Bi-winning.
“Chicken fried steak” is one of the most hilarious phrases I discovered when I went to America. I simply don’t understand why it isn’t just “fried steak”. I giggle every time.
Fat Tuesday must be an American thing … I have never heard of it until the last 2 days!
I’ve been on a James Taylor kick this week too – ever since I heard “Goin’ to Carolina” in a restaurant this weekend. Found the Pandora station, and haven’t looked back!
It is shatterproof – it didn’t shatter!
Atleast that glass didn’t land shards of glass everywhere like your oven fiasco.
I love animal crackers. That tub of them wouldn’t stand a chance at my house against me and my tubs of SPREAD!
Oh my gosh… that whole Duh. Winning is not gonna get old anytime soon! You totally made me snort in my oatmeal. :)
Haha, love the text convo! Too funny.
Duh. Winning. I haven’t been able to get those words out of my head this week, and it’s nice to see I’m not the only one! :-)
I have never had chicken fried steak, but ever since I saw PW’s post about it I’ve been curiously craving it! Do post your recipe and photo (please)! I might take the plunge and try it! :-)
The 4lbs of animal crackers only means you’ll have enough for cookie dough dip! hahaha! :)
