Tuesday Things.
1. You know you have no life when the highlight of your week is seriously avocados being on sale for $1. Granted, you have to buy like 43 to get five good ones, but whatever. I’ll take it.
2. Speaking of avocados (…this really has nothing to do with avocados), starting this week I’m going to be posting some of my favorites at the end of each month, specifically beauty things. Because I’m obsessed. So if my adoration of highly glittered lipgloss and eyeshadow irks you, stay farfarfar away.
3. Dying for one of these boozy irish cream coffee pops. How incredible is that?
4. I am actually alarmed at how infatuated I am with country music at the moment. Maybe I’m craving summer? It’s just so weird. It’s so not me.
5. Also, last week at the Pens home opener I poisoned myself with four diet Cokes. FOUR. I don’t even like diet Coke. Carbonation burns my throat, my mouth, my chest, my everything. I don’t even know me anymore.
6. happy Tuesday… 24 things to be more grateful for. Can I get a high five on #10? because I’m currently listening to For the Record by Mariah Carey as I type. I also like #2. Oh and #18. Darnit.
7. Over the weekend, we watched Pitch Perfect. Umm… best movie ever. Well, I should say “we” loosely because I watched it once, but my husband watched it THREE times. Yes, three. Then he taught himself how to do the music thing with the plastic cups like Anna Kendrick does in the movie. FYI: I was not home during that… lesson.
8. Please look at these marshmallow peanut butter sandwich cookies. Ughhhh. It’s like fluffernutters and cookies and stuff had a baby. I want.
9. Okay: Girls. Let’s discuss. I’m conflicted. Funny, scary and a little too much for my secret 60-year old brain to get on board with, but still probably shockingly accurate at times. I’m so embarrassingly elderly. All I want is more Shoshanna in my life. Actually, I want her in my real life. I’m serious.
10. Tonight I’m making a taco salad for dinner. That translates to approximately one cup of chopped butter lettuce (because, um, it’s BUTTER lettuce) in the bottom of a large bowl so I feel good about myself, topped with meat, copycat Chipotle corn salsa, tons of regular salsa, cheese and an obnoxious amount of blue corn chips. What are you having?

OMG at those marshmallow peanut butter sandwich cookies. I think I’d win girlfriend of the year if I made those for my boyfriend.
I’m having leftover pizza for dinner (Josh won boyfriend of the year when he had pizza cooked, cut and perfectly cooled by the time I got home for lunch today). Does throwing lettuce on that make it healthy too?
Never commented before but I laughed out loud about the Taco Salad because I just got back from Trader Joe’s to get taco salad supplies because I was craving one SO badly. Great minds think alike! I’m trying to substitute plain greek yogurt for sour cream – so we shall see if it lives up to the dream I have pictured.
Are you putting one of the 43 avocados on the taco salad or are those reserved for something special??
hahah yes, one of them will probably make it on there, in the form of guac and simple with salt and pepper.
I can never seem to find good avocados at my grocery store. Either that, or I forget to use them until they’re rotten. Ugh.
I’m making waffles for dinner tonight…homemade from scratch waffles yo, none of that Eggo business! these are a family recipe and they are AMAZING.
Lloovvvee Pitch Perfect. Greatest movie ever.
Can I just eat the creamy tops off of every one of those Popsicles? Thanks.
I loved girls, per usual. I did miss Shoshana and Jessa though.
I sampled some Danish pancakes at trader joes today and grabbed a bag. We had them with jam, green eggs ( eggs blended with tjs organic baby greens and scrambled) and sausage.
Wow dinner sounds great! I love taco salad and would have it at least once a week but my family probably would not be very happy with me so I won’t EVEN try it! Anyway, we’re having rotisserie chicken (I picked up from the grocer), mashed potatoes, and green beans. We have something along these lines whenever I’ve got lots to do and have no time to be creative. Hubby enjoys this meal–a real meat & potatoes kind of guy– so I’ll get no complaints. Love you blog by the way!
I love this post! It is just light and fun! I am a HUGE fan of Pitch Perfect, so is my boyfriend, which works out well for me and I replay the songs about 100 times a week.
Girls- also, can we talk about Hannahs wardrobe. I refuse to believe a gay bf would let her leave the house in that outfit. I swear her clothes are getting uglier and more unflattering with each passing episode! Can we submit fictional characters to What Not To Wear??? Clinton v Hannah- Go!
oh my gosh, yes. THIS.
I totally agree! It was really hard to watch that episode since she wore that horrible outfit for almost the whole thing! And why on earth did she exchange tops??? It went from horrible to devastatingly tragic!
On a side note, ever since I started watching that new show Nashville (thought it was going to be lame and I ended up loving it) I have started to listen to more country music. The show might be brainwashing me (since I have actually bought some of the show’s songs on iTunes) but I am starting to listen to all my old Garth Brooks CDs and I pulled out my cowboy boots to wear.
OMG: just finished dinner and what did I have… taco salad! Best dinner ever.
And Girls: I want to see more Jessa!
Does wine and cereal count as dinner?
personally, i love #21. maybe that’s because i’m doing it now…
It also made my day when I saw the Aldi flier today: avocados for .59! Pretty hard to beat that…and just in time for the superbowl
That is too weird! I started thinking about what I wanted to have for dinner (because naturally I start to drool the second I read your posts) and as soon as I thought “hmmm, taco salad sounds bomb” you pop up with your taco salad talk. And bam, that’s what I shall have!
I don’t understand having a hard time finding good avocados. I live in Wisconsin, so its not like I’m living under an avocado tree or anything. I just buy them rock hard and leave them in a paper bag. In two days they’re perfect! Stick them in the fridge if you don’t want to use them right away, they’ll stay good for a few days. Sure it sucks to wait two days for an avocado but they’re honestly perfect every time! I agree with the person above who said a gay best friend wouldn’t let Hannah leave the house dressed like that, but maybe he knew what he was doing and dressed her ridiculously on purpose??
I saw the avocados on sale and bought a huge ripe one. It was INCREDIBLE! One of the best I’ve ever had. Totally the highlight of my week too : )
Jessica. I have groundbreaking news. If you log onto HBOGo.com, sign in with your TV provider account you get free access to all HBO TV shows + movies.
Included in these TV shows? Episode 4 of Girls… A WEEK EARLY! I was so freaking excited. I feel like I’ve unlocked the secrets to the universe.
My husband will love those peanut butter and fluff cookies!!
As for dinner – we made your smokey white bean chicken chili last night and it was terrific! thanks again for a wonderful recipe!
I need to talk about Pitch Perfect for a minute. I watched it with my guy last week and it WAS the best movie ever but I think he actually loved it more than me! Then we went to my sister’s house where she conned her husband into watching it and he was embarrassed to admit it… but he loved it, too. And then I wondered IF, when we left the two of them alone to do whatever it is guys do, they were secretly talking about Pitch Perfect and learning the cup trick. Huh.
I never realized that we could comment on your blog….. I love reading them and make me happy to know someone has so many infatuations with the little things as much as I do. So thank you!!!!! You rock my friend. And I watched Pitch perfect during the weekend too, best movie ever!
Pitch perfect had my husband and I rolling on the floor with laughter. Love that movie!
I never realized until I saw you mention the Pens game that you are a Pittsburgh girl. Makes me love your blog even more! (I’m a PIttsburgh/Beaver County native myself.) Keep the recipes & funny stories coming! =)
I wanted SOOOOO badly to enjoy Pitch Perfect. I’m all about those singing movies and Glee and such… but I looooaaattthhheeee movies where people throw up. It triggers an angry reaction in my brain. And it happens in like the fist 2 minutes of the movie… And then again at the end… So while I actually quite enjoyed the middle parts (and Fat Amy is hilarious… ), I don’t think I can bring myself to watch that movie ever again, unless I find a friend to make me a copy with those 2 particular scenes edited out… :(
Ok, Girls made me so uncomfortable because even though I am only 28 I kept thinking I hope that no youg girls watch this and want to try that! I am an old lady too, I guess. However, the music!!!! I have listed to that I Love It song from the club scene 100 times since it aired.
If you like TV shows with awkward moments, you really need to watch ‘Emily Owens MD’ on CW. Wow. I have to continually pause because I can’t handle how awk it is.
I am seriously just SO in love with your blog, and 150% share your so-called elderly status. And proud of it!! :-)
Avocadoes are the highlight of my day, too!
LOVED Pitch Perfect I thought it was hilarious! I cannot get my boyfriend to watch it though, he thinks it’s a ‘chick flick’ I’m just going to have to sneak it in the dvd one night tell him we’re watching batman or something… ;)
P.S. not sure if I’m ecstatic or upset about you linking to these peanut butter marshmallow cookies… taste buds ecstatic, hips not so much…
I was just watching ‘Girls’ last night and have decided I really, REALLY need a Shoshanna in my life as well. Though maybe i’ve already got a bit of her in my life … well, maybe more than maybe, alot. ME!
Awesome list.
Ummmm, wait. Do they serve coke at Pens games now??? Instead of bs RC cola?
(I’d prob still pref hot chocolate from the Dunkin Donuts instead, but the lne is so loooooong sometimes!)
I might require that I have that same taco salad. Right now.
Girls: Missing Shoshanna and Jessa for sure.. Loved Laird specifically his turtle, only because I have one that my man’s had since he was 6.. about the turtle “he can be a real asshole sometimes” and “go home and relax with your turtle” hilarious. Totally weird episode.. Being Juust above the age of the show (they’re what like 23-25?I’m 26) Can’t say I relate much, except the general concept of girls calling each other bad friends when they themselves are the bad friends… which so comes out at the age. And Hannah’s outfit was painful.
Loving all your non-recipe posts this week :)
Don’t fight the country cravings. They are oh-so-natural. And good for you. Yeah.
Tacos in any form are incredible. I didn’t see the word “avocado” in that description, though. What’s wrong with you?
And speaking of avocado, we just discovered that it’s the cure for brown rice. Not that brown rice is bad, but it’s never quite as soft as white and it’s so much better for you. Welp, smash up some avocado and mix it in, and it’s so freaking good. We had ours with turkey meatballs and roasted red peppers and fire-roasted corn. I want more.
Um I may have just bought 15 avocados at the Eagle yesterday because of the sale…. I figured if I got the whole range of greens that I could hopefully get one that would be ripe every day haha… and yes I called about 5 ppl to tell them!
