Tuesday Things.
1. Let’s be honest. Are you even remotely surprised that those are my Christmas ornaments?
2. This raspberry ginger ice cream float. I can’t even.
3. Huge news: I have been doing so many crafts. Like real, legit crafts. I’m going to tell you about them this week. I’m still convinced I’ve been abducted by aliens.
4. My obsession with winter white has spiraled out of control. I want everything in my life to be winter white. Everything.
5. Over the weekend I actually convinced Eddie to come to yoga with me. This has been like two years in the making. Or should I say… begging. I think he actually loved it? Afterwards, he was in a yoga coma. Like one of those classes that is so good that you are unable to even form a sentence afterwards. Blown away.
6. We put up our tree over the weekend and I was thinking… I’d like to try a real tree. Maybe. I could possibly be allergic since I have seasonal allergies, but I don’t think I am. My only other issue is that it would only last three weeks or so? Thoughts? Okay but the thing is – I have a MAJOR fear. Aren’t there like bugs and animals inside the trees? Like what if they are still inside the tree once it’s in your house, Clark Griswold style? I realize I’m completely ignorant but I’m also seriously asking. Where do the bugs go?
7. My brother introduced me to this terrible but fantastic app called Quiz Up. On Friday night I’m pretty sure that five of us sat around and played each other in trivia for over an hour. This is what our world has become. At least I’m learning things with it? (Like excellent trivia concerning boy bands, snacking and 1990s movies.)
8. Homeland. What.the.heck. Why does Carrie have to be so mean and horrible? Is it because she isn’t taking her meds due to her current situation? I just have no idea how they are going to wrap up this storyline that I am SO SICK OF in two more episodes. Dude. WRAP IT UP.
9. Speaking on TV, I totally adore this tribute that Steve Buscemi (who (whom?) I love love love) gives to the late James Gandolfini. Gah.
10. My level of shock hit an all-time high when I started noticing the absolutely disgusting amount of emails I received over the weekend about black Friday sales. I’m not even subscribed to THAT many places (you know, just the necessities, like Kate Spade, Overstock, Sephora) and within an hour of clearing my inbox, I would have 26 new retail emails. I mean, really?
11. I’m having a very difficult time with it getting dark around 4PM. Food blogger’s worst nightmare. See also: first world problem.

We started playing QuizUp this weekend too and I would agree I am totally hooked. I am also not as smart as I thought I was. Some real tough questions on there!
We are off to get our real tree tonight. Had one my whole life and never any bugs that I knew of. My husband is Jewish so he never had the tree but now he loves going to pick one out for our house.
Real trees are the best! I grew up in the Appalachian mountains and we had a real tree every single year, and it was always so so fresh and wonderful! I now live in TX, and so does my immediate family. All the years we’ve been here we abandoned real trees for a few years but went back. They don’t seem as fresh down here, but there is absolutely nothing that can compare to having a real tree in your house for Christmas! My husband and I just got ours last night. We buy the tree food to put in it’s water. We will leave it up until sometime the first full week of January. Yes, it will be pretty dead by then, but they stay pretty “fresh” as long as you keep it hydrated. Ours end up dying more once we leave for family visits after Christmas and aren’t there to consistently water it. Anyway, that was long, but totally worth it no matter how long it stays fresh!
Oh and I’m loving winter white and your pins!! :)
Your ornament in the bottom left – I love it
We put up our tree at church over the weekend. My first time decorating a real tree – it was more difficult because we couldn’t move the branches anywhichway BUT it turned out nice once we adjusted.
I feel you on the early darkness – no bueno
We get a real tree and have not had trouble with bugs
But one time we had a bat in the house after getting the tree
So….makes me wonder if it came in with the tree???
Seconding the praying mantis story. My family had a real tree every year, until one time billions of baby praying mantises hatched in our dining room. After we switched to a fake tree we realized most of us were probably allergic to the real one because we felt so much healthier over Christmas! I say stick with fake and get a wreath for scent. It’s much easier to check a wreath for bugs/nests/etc.
Don’t be afraid of the real tree! We have always had a real tree my whole life, and I have never ever seen a single bug come out of one. Could it be that living in the frosty north, they’re already dead? I actually have no clue.. I’ve never even once considered bugs in Christmas trees to be a possibility.
Try the real tree! The smell (OH my gosh, the smell) & prettiness in its imperfection is the absolute best!
These ornaments at Target made me think of you, my fake internet friend http://www.target.com/p/12ct-60mm-brights-orn/-/A-14582703#prodSlot=medium_4_14
(If the link doesnt work, search for “12CT 60MM BRIGHTS ORN” on the Target website.
if you like QuizUp you HAVE to get HeadsUp. Like what Ellen plays on her show. the BEST part is watching the video it records while everyone is trying to help you guess what is on your forehead. It is HI-LARIOUS
I never had any bug issues with a real tree. I never even thought about it. Or pesticides on trees for that matter. This year, I have a 9 month old baby girl to worry about. Great, thanks for putting this in my head!
On the tree, I live in Colorado now and we got our permit from the Forest Service and will go out to cut a tree. We’ve even had to snowshoe in and let our huskies help pull the tree back to the truck. It’s always an adventure to cut one. Haven’t ever had a problem with bugs out here.
But….I grew up in Arkansas and we usually went to a farm where they shook the trees & I’m sure they sprayed. When I was in Jr. High my mom decided we’d go cut a tree from the abandoned lot near our apartment complex. Within about 24hrs. we had the hatching, crawling…TICKS! We stripped the ornaments as quick as we could, threw the thing out the door, and started vacuuming like mad!
You could always stand the tree in your garage for a few days to let all the creatures find their way out, but this year we brought it right on in! Real tree all the way! Nothing beats it!
