February Favorites: Food + Fun.
This butter dish. I’ve been looking for a butter dish for at least a year and haven’t had luck finding anything I love. I know it sounds ridiculous but the moment I laid eyes on this, I was sold. It’s wide enough for two sticks off butter… or a big slab of kerrygold.
As far as books go, I’m going to say the Goldfinch. I did really like it – but it took me awhile to get through and I lost momentum a few times. You guys also encouraged me to sign up for goodreads at the beginning of this month and I LOVE it. I didn’t get to dedicate as much time to reading as I would like these last three weeks, but it’s definitely going to be helpful in the future.
Big ass blueberry smoothies. I’ve been using the frozen wild blueberries from Trader Joe’s and throwing in some frozen greek yogurt cubes, frozen bananas, almond or coconut milk and coconut oil. It’s SO freaking good. Sometimes I will add spinach or spirulina if there are no vegetables I can fathom eating that day.
Speaking of Trader Joe’s, those colorful macarons up there are of the frozen variety from TJs. Obviously they aren’t as good as bakery fresh ones, but they are pretty darn good. I bought two boxes to keep in the freezer in times of emergencies and wouldn’t you know… we had an emergency earlier this week. At 10PM. I was pleasantly surprised.
This candle in volcano. My parents got me this for Christmas and it smells like unicorn tears. So fruity and delicious and like spring is on it’s way! I’ve burned through the entire thing.
This lunch mashup of toast, spread with spicy feta, topped with my favorite tangy red peppers and eggs. OH MY GOSH. I love this meal so much. It’s super filling too.
These little drop earrings from anthro. I love simple, light neutral earrings that can be worn with everything. You know I almost exclusively live in the kate spade studs, but these are a nice change. They are the perfect shape and size.
This crazy blue hill farms yogurt. Never did I ever think that I’d love savory yogurts, but these still have their own sweetness to them. I LOVE. So far, I’ve tried the butternut, beet and sweet potato. I put a dollop of the sweet potato yogurt on soup this week and it was really delicious.
This yoga mat spray. When I got my mat last year I also got their yoga mat wipes, but it seems those are gone now. So I ended up getting this renew spray in energizing gingergrass and it’s delightful. It smells fabulous. So much better than the regular disinfectant at the studio.
TV? I’m still going with Sons of Anarchy. Yes, I’ve been all over True Detective and House of Cards this month, and I seriously love both and am sure they will make it into my favorites next month. But this month I finished watching SOA and I have such a fascination and fixation with that show. Like it’s real life. I’m way too emotionally invested. It’s not my typical type of chick show and I adore it.
This califia farms almond milk. While I’ve been using it for months, it’s just in the last few weeks that I was successful at making almond milk foam (in the breville milk frother I mentioned last month) for coffee. Even more obsessed now. Â I tend to switch off between the vanilla, unsweetened and coconut. There might be four containers in my fridge downstairs right now.
This Splendid drape neck top. Not only do I love all things Splendid, but this has been SO comfortable this winter. I feel like it’s been the longest stretch that we haven’t had any sort of warm weather and this is what I will wear when working or running quick errands after yoga.
Every time I go to Whole Foods, I splurge and get two or three juices. My latest favorite has been this super green. I will usually drink half at a time (to savor it!) as an afternoon snack or for breakfast. This was is so good – it is pretty sweet, but I don’t find it overwhelmingly sweet like the all-fruit juices.
Finally, I am still losing my mind over these pens. I got a few at the Alt Summit and they just write so perfectly smooth… and the colors! The colors. Such a school supply freak. I’ll never be over it.
[none of this is sponsored, just like to talk about things that I discover and love. there are a few amazon affiliate links above. love love.]

Let’s make a deal, ok? You come to chicago, and I’ll make sure you get endless amazing French macaron from Chicago’s Pastry chef of the Year (a.k.a. my sister). Deal?
All great stuff, but I LOVE those earrings! So pretty!
Love the frozen macarons! Good for when you can’t get fresh! The vanilla and chocolate are good too! I don’t think there’s anything Trader Joes doesn’t do well!
I, too, am obsessed with that Volcano candle! However, it’s way overpriced. Last fall, I discovered that Bath & Body Works’ Sweater Weather candle smells really similar but is so much cheaper, especially with the $11 deals. Unfortunately it’s a seasonal candle (which is why I bought about 10 of them) so definitely see if you can find it and stock up this year.
I love blueberry smoothies too but I just dropped mine all over the carpet and I’m terrified that I’m going to have a stain. I cleaned it up right away but it’s blueberries. I guess I’ll have to convince my husband to put in hard wood floors. LOL
Drop ear rings are good because you can wear them day or night.
That yogurt sounds delicious. I might have to make a trip to the east coast to find some of it!
That almond milk is super tasty. I love the bottles too!
Love the double wide butter container and those pens. Smooth writing pens are the best. I may have to take your word for it and order. And Califia almond milk is so good, so smooth, it’s just…quality. And milk frothing your almond milk. It’s the small things in life that make for great days :)
Gotta love Anthro. Every store is so beautiful and fun to shop in. Perfect for when you need chic earrings, a candle and a butter dish, among other things, no?
I’ve been looking for a butter dish too and I might have to get that one. I hate having to cut Kerrygold in half!
I am a freak for Le Pen too, I really want that 18 color set in my life.
Aaaand…I’ve been wanting to try that almond milk and I think you’ve convinced me to buy it next time I’m at Whole Foods.
Califia almond milk is so yummy! I’m happy our commissary carries it:)
I’m so glad you checked out Goodreads, isn’t it amazing?! I have like 200 books on my “to-read” list and they just continue to pile up! Maybe I can get some reading done during spring break next week
oh goodness i must get my hands on some of this blue hill yogurt. one thing that won’t ship to the middle of nowhere: yogurt. LAME! but all the more reason to get my butt to a city soon. those and trader joe’s macarons!
Its so weird that i don’t like macaroons!! i really truly want to like them bu every time i try them i regret it.
And goodreads sounds like exactly what i need, although i prefer having the actual book in hand.

Your blog is my favorite. I look forward to it every day! You got me with the earrings today. Love them, big time.
So, those pens are exactly what I’m looking for!! Do you think they’re fine enough to use in the Day Designer, without bleeding?
yep, i use them and they don’t bleed at all!
Awesome, thanks!
I never thought I would like these posts, but I totally do. Makes me feel like I know you.
Have not seen the macaroons at Traders Joes, another reason to go back.
Always look forward to these posts. Have you done a post on your favorite workout clothes? Would love to know your faves!
Ok HELP! I have a milk frother (Nespresso) and the only almond milk I can make froth is homemade almond milk! I only buy Califia and I can’t make that froth though! Any tricks?!
I completely agree about SOA! I just finished up all 5 seasons on Netflix and am mourning the fact that it is over. I have seriously never been so obsessed with a show in my life! I also feel like it is real life/like they are my friends:).
I LOVE CALIFA FARMS almond coconut milk blend!!!!!!!!!
That toast lunch mashup sounds like perfection. I’ve definitely made hor d’oeuvres similar to that before, and I think I even ate the leftovers kind of like that, but I never think hey, I deserve to make that just for myself, I don’t need a party as an excuse. Brilliant!

Those macaroons are amazing!! My sister and I discovered them at Trader Joes a few months ago. In fact I have a box in my freezer now. Perfect little sweet tooth fix. :-)

Le Pens. Le Perfect.

Love these pens! Mahh gawww. You can buy them at Pat Catan’s! (And buy them singly .. by the color you want!)
I approve. (;

Love Anthro! Check out the cute farmer’s baskets…perfect for storing fruit or holding Le Pen (been a favorite for years…addicting!). Le Pen is perfect for calendar scheduling as well as writing cards and thank you notes. The Volcano candle also comes in a mercury container (first found it at Phipps Conservatory). Love it!
I love that butter dish. Anthropologie is the most dangerous store for me and my credit card.
