June Favorites: Beauty.
Hi hi! Time to talk about all of my makeup hoarding tendencies. And it’s summmmmer!
Fall is probably my favorite time of year for makeup, but summer takes a close second. My skin is paler than pale and while I’ve finally come to grips with it and accepted it for what it is (read: I haven’t set foot in a tanning bed in seven+ years and hate myself for doing so earlier in life), I like to load on some self-tanner so I can participate in the bronzy glow of summer.
Not everything works on my skin tone since it’s so light, but I’ve found some favorite things that do with the help of a little St Tropez. In addition to my St Tropez love, I’m still going nuts over the bare minerals bare skin foundation, which I think is HUGE for me. It is so awesome and I’m thrilled with it. Currently only using it once or twice a week since I don’t wear a ton of makeup in summer, but when I do wear it, it’s great. I’m still going crazy over the alba daily shade – it’s my go-to daily lotion every morning to help keep me unwrinkly. I’m also still loving the too faced chocolate bar palette and my chocolate soleil bronzer, which I finally left out after four months of subjecting you to raving about it. But make no doubt about it – it’s forever good. AND since I got my hair cut, I’m finding that the kenra blow dry spray is making it dry in just a few minutes (which is incredible). I’ve also been using a little more dry shampoo than normal as I learn how to style it and give it texture and volume on top.
Now on to this month!
I mentioned this hope in a jar SPF last month and wasn’t sure how sold I’d be once I was close to finishing it. Well, I’m about three quarters of the way through and I really am loving it. I use it every morning and even occasionally twice a day if I’m going to be back out in the sun later. If I’m going to be in direct sunlight during peak hours, I’ll use a higher SPF and my favorites for body are still coola and sun bum. I love both of their sunscreen lotions and sprays.
And! I’m still using this hope in a jar combined with the clarins glow booster self tan serum that I talked about last month. That stuff is GOLD. I’ve tried it with a few other moisturizers too and it just works with anything.
I also had a sample of this supergoop eye cream with SPF 37 that I’m LOVING. I don’t always fall victim to the claims of eye creams (though kiehl’s avocado is still my fave night one) but was so excited that this has SPF. And since I sweat like a man and tend to get regular SPF lotion in my eyes, I decided to test it out. So cool. I want to try more supergoop creams!
I tried a few of these tarte brazilliance self-tan face wipes because I freak over all things tarte. Years ago (like literally six years ago) I was using the tan towel wipes and really liked them. Then I bought St. Tropez and have no problem putting St Tropez on my face… except it has to sit for eight hours without any water/face cream/etc. I tend to self tan at night and still want to use moisturizer, so I’ve been using these wipes on my face and neck and then a few hours later moisturizing before bed.
And yes, I do still use these with the clarins serum because the serum gives such a natural glow – and if I’m using St Tropez it gives more of darker tan.
As a side note, I finally tried the tarte brazilliance tanning lotion this month too. I love the consistency, I love that it is more moisturizing than the St Tropez. BUT, I don’t love the color as much and it does seem slightly streakier. St Tropez mousse reigns supreme for me.
At the end of last summer I bought this chanel soleil de tan, which is a golden almost-bronzey like illuminator. I used it a handful of times but could never get the hang of it, and then come winter when I wasn’t using any self tanner, it looked ridiculous on my pasty skin. But I yanked it out last month and have been using it every time I wear makeup. I’ve done a few things – mixed a few drops with my tarte tinted moisturizer (it does not make your face sparkly whatsoever), mixed a few drops with the bare minerals bare skin foundation or dabbed it on my cheekbones and random places on my face. LOVE.
I have a hard time finding cream highlighters that I like, and while the benefit high beam has been my favorite for months, it’s super light – almost white-ish pink – and just looks super metallic and doesn’t blend as well when I’m using self tanner. So this… is now perfect. Can’t even express my adoration.
This is something new I bought this month – I happened to be walking by the MAC counter and spotted this new blush from the kelly osbourne collection in cheeky bugger. It has been the ONLY blush I’ve worn all month! Which is a biddie, considering I’ve been so excited to bust out one of the tarte blushes I love in summer – tipsy. This is just such a pretty color. It’s not even that special but it just makes me look glowy or something. I dunno.
I also grabbed the kelly osbourne version of candy yum-yum (you may remember me mentioning I lost mine, wah) and am freaking. It’s only slightly different from candy yum-yum but I may like it more?
Since it’s summer I’ve barely been wearing anything on my eyes. I’ve switched between MAC rubenesque paint pot (this color might have been one of the first paint pots I ever tried ages ago with bare study… total throwback), urban decay sin, occasionally putting sin OVER rubenesque, and the urban decay naked basics palette for a more matte look. I really haven’t been wearing any eyeliner, just loads of mascara. I’ve been so boring.
Sidebar: rubenesque is a love/hate shade for me because it doesn’t jive with my winter skin. But in summer it’s one that I diiiiie over.
Two staples on my lips this month: maybelline shocking coral and MAC creme cup. Nothing new but shades I just lovelovelove so much. Other than these, the only thing that has really been on my lips is the hourglass fortune gloss that is stashed in my purse.
Every summer I go a little nutty over beach waves spray since my hair has a natural wave. I’ve talked about the fekkai summer waves spray on my blog for years, but when I went to get some at ulta earlier this month, it was nowhere to be found. I did find this alterna summer ocean waves spray and love it MORE. It smells better, it holds the wave better and GAH. It’s just the icing on the cake of summer hair.
Okay okay, so back when I purchased the bronze goddess whipped body cream from estee lauder, I had no idea that it had this cult following and that people went crazy over it. Everyone kept telling me to buy the perfume before it sold out, so I managed to find it at my dinky Macy’s and obviously it’s just as good as the cream. Nothing has ever smelled so much like summer to me! It’s nuts.
I almost consider this a body spray because it doesn’t seem to last super long, but if it’s layered over the whipped cream, it will last all day. It’s amazing what I will pay for scents that take me back to my childhood.
Finally these oldies but goodies have been my go-to nail colors this month because OMGSUMMER. They just scream summer to me, especially when together. I love them so much. China glaze flip flop fantasy and essie bikini so teeny. Not limited edition either! Faves.
That is allllll. I’m in major summer mode and not wearing makeup most days, but when I do… this stuff is on my face. What are you loving for summer makeup? TELL ME. Be a bad example.
{as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products from them. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are a few amazon affiliate links above. thank you for being here!}

Loving all of this. Rubenesque is a paint pot I use as well! I agree about winter skin, but with a pretty glow it is DIVINE!
I’ve been putting off buying the naked basics but I think it’s time…all things urban decay are amazing. Have you bought the electric palette yet?! You absolutely need to! I did an ombré purple eye with a teal bottom lash line and it was amaze and not obnoxious! This is the time of year to embrace color…! I turn 30 in October and I have no SHAME!!
Wish I had picked up Kelly yum yum. I had just spent a load on the alluring aquatic collection and didn’t have the funds in time. The peach lippie was awesome too. Reminded me of limecrime babebette!
I love reading your monthly favorites. I’ve never commented but from one makeup junkie to another – THANK YOU for feeding my addiction :)
I got a sample of Super Goop regular SPF face moisturizer and I really loved it. It’s pretty thin so it doesn’t feel like you’re loading a ton of stuff onto your face. And, I have been all about hot pink lipstick this summer, and pastel nails always.
I just got a Josie Maran Cheek gelee (Poppy Paradise) and loovveee iiittttt. I think the formula makes it easier to wear brighter shades because they’re so easy to sheer out.
AND I just got the Lorac Pro Palette 2 and I’m basically in love with it already. Gorgeous.
I recieved supergoop cc cream in my birchbox over a year ago anf I’ve been hooked ever since. I switch between that and the Tarte tinted primer
I am still on Clinique’s Moisture Surge tinted moisturizer with SPF. Does the job of coverage like a like foundation and evens out complexion…Loving Guerlain mascara when I actually put it on as well as their lipsticks and eye liners…SkinCeuticals is the best sunscreen for the face and comes with a light tint to make you look a bit tan. Essie Luscious Lips on the fingers- an oldie but a goodie!
Have you tried the new Tarte amazonian clay blush in Captivating? I think it might be limited edition. It looks like the perfect summer peachy-coral… I’ve been eye-ing it for a while, and it seems like something you’d really like!
Ummm can you stop doing these because I keep buying everything. And now I’m broke. K thx.
You finally made me buy Tarte, and I freaking love it! I was using some other non-natural crap, and I was worried the ‘amazonian clay’ claim was going to make me break out. Not so! I love it love it! I also just bought Philosophy’s Supernatural Airbrush Canvas Powder. I’m on the fence about it. The powder stays put all day long (even after sweating in the kitchen!), plus it has SPF15. But, I don’t love the applicator. anyway, I love these posts!!
xo
Supergoop…I may have to look into that.
I LOVE supergoop. I have their giant jug and use it on my kids daily and the facial spf on my face anytime I’m going to be out in the sun for any length of time.
Always enjoy these posts! Current faves: orly rage (perfect rose old nail polish), elta md SPF 41 (it has the lightest tint to take away white cast), fyrinnae cosmetics (fun indie brand), Laura gellar tropic hues blush, urban decay liner in corrupt.
Have you tried smashbox cc cream? Oh em gee, the best. It’s so lightweight, and it really makes my face look glowing, hydrated and flawless. You have to go try it out. Like, right now.
At first I thought the eye cream was called sugarpoop.
Well, I really have been feeling super tired today, so that might explain things.
Still weird, and hilarious!
Love your choice of lippies and nail polishes.
I thought I recognized Bikini So Teeny in one of your IG pics. I bought that polish last year and never wore it b/c I decided I didn’t really care for the color. Now I love it! It is so fun! I also have Flip Flop Fantasy which is gorgeous but chips so badly that it drives me batty. That doesn’t stop me from wearing it though. HA!
I love that color from China Glaze!

love these posts! i’m loving the too faced chocolate bronzer too ! i also really like benefit apples cheektint from my birchbox. ive been getting shellac on my fingers lately and right now have sort of a dark teal. ehhh looking forward to change this week with some red/blue for july 4th. i’ve been liking stila eyeliner pots in this heat since they do not move on me at all. sometimes i use the gray then paint a skinny sprakle purple on top and pretend i’m a fashion model and can get away with that : )
on the hair front i’m totally blah. my hair just lays there but then my lady wants to cut more layers when i complain but i dont like short layers, blah blah, just not loving my cut lately i guess ?
have you tried dr. dennis gross glow pads? they are like a treatment + self tanner in 1! i use them at night and the color takes about an hour to develop + they have a smidge of glycolic acid in there to help smooth/soothe the skin. my tan looks natural and i don’t have to fear being pale! perfect!
also, i’m still all about ilia lip conditioners. they pigments are rich and they are so moisturizing! i love mac lippie’s but my god do the matte ones dry out my lips
I love both of those lipstick shades and I’m dying to try the ocean waves spray!
so that China Glaze polish is just fancy fabulous!
I’ll forever be grateful for your love of the milk chocolate soleil bronzer because as someone who also has skin on the paler side, it’s AMAZING. It looks so natural and not orangey like the other bronzers I’ve used. It’s perfection. I haven’t tried these yet but I want to–the Josie Maran coconut water eyeshadows. The gold/pink colors look so beautiful to me and I think they’d be perfect for summer. I’m also really loving the new Glam Glow power mud (the mask to oil one)–it makes my skin look and feel amazing. Oh and the Tarte lip power pigment and cheek stain in Exposed–loving those SO much. And at the risk of writing a novel, I’ll just say I’m loving my Benefit Watts Up highlighter more than ever now during the summer. It wears so well and looks so natural on my skin! Sorry for the novel. Makeup excites me.
Try It’s a Ten Miracle Blowdry Volumizer. It gives my roots amazing lift. Also, Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Dry Shampoo adds a ton of lift also. I love the Batiste for battling oil and adding some texture, but it doesn’t add volume the way the Big Sexy Hair one does. I’ve also head that the Big Sexy Hair Powder Play is amazing, but haven’t tried it yet. Also, for great summer beach hair, have you tried the whole Bumble & Bumble Surf collection. Not just the spray, but the shampoo, conditioner, and spray all together. As a trio, it’s amazing. The spray on its own, eh. I’m also a fan of the B&B (un)dressing cream. It’s makes for some pretty awesome, messy, beachy, I just got out of bed, sex hair.
Have you tried Fake Bake Flawless tanner? I used to be a St Tropez girl, but it seemed one day I bought a bottle and it was just different. I didn’t get as much color, and it lasted about 2 days. I’ve tried countless self tanners, and I’m currently hooked on the Fake Bake. It doesn’t smell as bad as most self tanners, and I’ve heard some people say it smells good. Even my husband agrees that it doesn’t smell quite as much like “cheap pancake syrup” as some self tanners. I can use it, and go out in public without feeling like I will either scare people or offend them. The mitt that comes with it is great, and it never streaks. I’m so sold on it.
If you want to smell like your childhood, Bobbi Brown Beach has that perfected. It smells like sand, sun, salt and Coppertone!
Can I ask how you use that beach spray? I’m always excited and intrigued by products like that but then I buy them and I’m disappointed. but maybe I’m just using them wrong? My hair definitely has some natural wave to it but only when it air dries.
I still love my Naked Basics. I use it all the time. Can’t get enough!
For as long as you’ve been writing about the blow dry spray I’ve been really skeptical that it could actually help my hair dry faster. I just didn’t believe it was possible. But, I had a coupon for Ulta so I finally bought it AND IT ACTUALLY WORKS. My hair is very thick and wavy and it was dry in four minutes this morning! Thank you for the recommendation.
I want to try that Hope in a Jar!
Also, on a beauty related note, I painted my nails yesterday… they completely dried and then this morning I decided to add top coat for some shine. The top coat COMPLETELY smeared my nails! What the heck?!
I know it probably feels weird to post pictures of your own face all over the Internet, but I would really love to see how these products actually look on! It’s one thing to read about them but I think actually seeing it would really be helpful…just a thought :)
I LOVE UD Sin – I have a whole selection of their shadows and only ever use sin.. it’s crazy! I think I need to give that Chanel Soleil Teint too.. I am also an avid user and believer of and in High Beam, but you are right: it is quite metallic :( Oh well. Love this month’s selection!
I tried the Hope In a Jar for a few weeks, but then I started breaking out. I thought it was from that, but now I think it’s just my wonderful birth control hormones going crazy. I definitely plan on bringing it back into my skincare routine. I’ve also heard a lot about that Clarins Skin Booster serum…I need to add that to my Sephora list.
I LOVE supergoop! I have the big jug of regular SPF and I put it on every day. It even has a pump – so it’s super easy to just put on and go! And it’s unscented, which means i can still wear all my favorite perfumes and not worry about clashing with my sunscreen!
Is there a night time moisturizer/cream that you like? I can’t seem to find one!
I love your beauty posts! I stalk your blog at the end of the every month to see when you post it. I’m sorry if that’s creepy, but I can’t help it! lol I’m a beauty addict also!
I have oily skin, so I love using UD’s Primer potion in Sin with MAC Bare Study, and then I put the Sin eyeshadow over it. You also need to try out Benefit’s new They’re Real Eyeliner! It’s the best! I just got it, and I’m obsessed with it. I also love Benefit’s The Big Easy Better Than BB Cream and Porefessional. Rimmel’s Stay Matte Powder in Translucent is great also. I could keep going on and on about this topic, lol!
