Tuesday Things.
1. I ate caprese salad for breakfast. With toast, so kind of like breakfast? I think this takes my obsession to a whole new level. The tomatoes are getting GOOD.
2. What. Bacon and sweet corn ice cream sandwiches. Is this even real life?
3. Yesterday I ate this brownie and all of you asked for the recipe on instagram. It’s called go to the grocery store and buy a boy of ghiraradelli brownie mix and then buy the triple fudge chip frosting in a can. But I will say for some reason, my mom’s boxed brownies turn out ten million times better than ones I can make from a box.
4. My cherry love is still going strong but it’s also moving in the direction of pluots and plums. Um, the best juiciest plums ever. I wish I could find them all year long.
5. When I am bored (aka: procrastinating, because I should truly never be bored) I bring up realtor dot com and look up insane property in northern michigan that costs millions and millions of dollars. It’s a funny little procrastination tool because if one wasn’t procrastinating, they’d be working to earn the money for said insane property.
6. I didn’t see any proper fireworks on the 4th of July. I feel madly deprived.
7. What I did do was make a giant bowl of guacamole, and just so you know it took me buying 16 avocados in order to get 8 good ones.
8. It’s pretty sad that the highlight of my TV this week was catching reruns of the Walking Dead on AMC over the weekend. I thought True Blood was a little better but not much – I want to go on the biggest most gigantic rant about it but don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Eddie is so over it that he doesn’t even watch anymore and just fast forwards through to the parts that I tell him he should see. I’m kind of excited for Masters of Sex to start up again on showtime since there is nothing else on. Otherwise, I think you all have convince me to start Orphan Black.
9. I love (most of) this darn thing: how to become a better woman.
10. Do you prefer long weekends that start on friday or end on monday? Inquiring minds need to know.
11. I don’t even know what that dessert is up there. A brownie and ice cream and peanut butter and probably a mix between heaven and hell.

EXCUSE ME WHILE I ENVISION MYSELF DIVING INTO THAT ICE CREAM PILE. can i have that for lunch? it’s tuesday. that’s reason enough, right?
also long weekends that end on a monday. fridays, even when they’re workdays, are fun and feel like the weekend because you can get away with drinking at all hours of the day, including while working. or at least that’s what i tell myself.
Jess, Jessica… Couldn’t decide which one, I went with both – to be safe.
I’m Australian and didn’t get any 4th of July fireworks, but I found this… next best thing?!?

I didn’t see proper fireworks either, and I too, feel deprived! Next year, I will definitely make it for it! That does look like a delicious brownie, wow!
No fireworks for me, either. It didn’t help that we had torrential downpours all day. I absolutely prefer long weekends that end on Monday.
Monday through Thursday, I prefer long weekends that start on a Friday. My thoughts on Saturday and Sunday change dramatically ;)
I learned something recently about box brownies — they taste way better if you swap melted butter for the oil.
That’s really interesting! I’ve never heard that. Totally makes sense.
Ok so caprese salad for breakfast is totally legit but try adding some peaches in there with it… game changer. Made a giant bowl of it the other day and it was gone in 24 hours.
I didn’t see any proper fireworks either. You’re not alone in your deprivation. As for the brownie-from-a-box thing, it’s a mother’s touch, for sure. There’s something about eating a dessert that your mom made, even if it’s from a box.
And long weekends that end on Mondays, HANDS DOWN.
I think the ice cream concoction is a heated Triple Chocolate Brownie, Vanila Bean Ice Cream, really good Chocolate Sauce, and crushed Butterfingers. Can’t you just taste it !!
THAT brownie…!! I need to whip up a batch.
You know it took me 3 attempts to get into Orphan Black. Then over a course of 3 weeks, I finished off the first two seasons. It’s not the best TV ever, but it’s pretty entertaining stuff. Solid TV I would say. But YAY for Masters of Sex! It feels like it’s been off air for forever!
I want caprese salad for breakfast! I don’t think you’re crazy. Also, i prefer long weekends that start on Fridays. I like it when the weekend arrives earlier as opposed to the week starting a day late. :)
#10. I was just talking to my husband about this same thing! I prefer holidays to be on a Monday. I think it is because now this week will feel extra long because it is a full week after a holiday. I don’t know… but if I am planning a long weekend or going on vacation, I like to have Friday off.
Have you watched Leftovers? I think this is going to be a good show.
I am almost jealous that you haven’t watched Orphan Black yet because you get to experience it for the first time :) I dare you to watch it and NOT forget that one incredibly talented woman is playing all those characters! She so deserves an Emmy. Enjoy!
Orphan black is really good! It’s not my favorite show ever, but it’s way better than walking dead and true blood, that’s for sure.
Silly question: how do you pronounce “caprese”? Do you pronounce the last e?
Mondays for sure.
I prefer long weekends that include Monday as a day off. Fridays already feel like the weekend to me. Also, i must have a brownie ASAP. Or that ice cream concoction. Either will do.
That article on how to be a better woman was awesome!! Thanks for sharing. Also. I am realizing that I have not eating nearly enough homegrown tomatoes. This must change immediately.
Def weekends that start on Thursday night.
Off to watch True Blood – I didn’t realize there was a new one this week.
The trick to avocados is to plan ahead, buy them green and hard and let them ripen on the counter next to your bananas. The ones in the mesh bag at Whole Foods are usually green if you have trouble finding ones that aren’t ripe.
I wish cherries didn’t make my mouth itchy because they look gorgeous right now.
I totally get caprese salad with toast for breakfast. Growing up my dad had a garden and come late summer there are too many tomatoes. We had tomato sandwiches on toast with mayo for breakfast all the time.
Okayyyyyyy now your talking my speed. The Walking Dead! I just saw the 1st season ,now all the pieces fall into place. In-between that and watching Buffy I think I’m all set for summer , now i just need some good avocados and brownies.
I just started watching Orphan Black this past Sunday. I went to a local farmer’s market and started talking to this couple about it. I have already watched 6 or 7 episodes. I love it!
I decided that image of the beautiful dessert contained crumbled up pieces of chocolate chip cookies in addition to the brownies and ice cream and peanut butter and all other things of dessert goodness…I think I prefer long weekends with Monday off. Although I will never turn down a Friday off…
regarding long weekends….it depends. if i have things to do….i would prefer to start on friday so i can get a jump on things. if i dont have things to do i prefer mondays off cuz there is just something so great about thinking eveyrone else has to go to work on monday and instead i get to lay around and do nothing !
ate a pluot yesterday. it was so stinking delicious. i wanted all.of.it. to last forever, but it was gone in a whole two seconds since they are mini!
and whatever is pictured above looks incredible.
as does your instagram brownie. ghiradelli boxed (double chip or whatever their super chocolate overload one is called) is my go-to. always&forever.
and I’m totally a long weekend that includes a monday off. friday is alwayssss a mini-weekend day anyway. so give me that extra monday! tuesday just never seems as bad.
oh goodness, that’s MY brownie recipe, too! Thing is, I totally pass them off as home made (I mean, I made them…in my home) by cutting them into hearts or stars with cookie cutters then icing. viva le box mix!!
and, long weekends that include mondays off; Fridays are never really busy for me, so it’s more like 3.5 days off. the greatest may have been Canada Day on Tuesday this year; most of my clients took Monday off so it was an extra extra long weekend for me!!
I love love love having Fridays off! Probably one of my favorite things in the world! I live in Madison WI and they didn’t have any fireworks on the actual 4th which does not fly for me. Luckily I spent the 4th in Chicago and saw a great show over the water. I will never understand why places choose to do fireworks the days (or weeks) before the 4th instead of actually on the day!! So dumb.
I LOVE having Fridays off! But, I wish I had everyday off. You know, #firstworldproblems
Are you buying avocados at a regular grocery store? I used to have the worst luck, like >50% fail rate, buying avocados at standard grocery stores, even Trader Joe’s etc. I have pretty much a 100% success rate buying them at the Mexican markets. Seriously, every time I get tempted at a regular grocery store and ignore the little voice in my head that says ‘it’s not going to be good’ I get burned. Good avocados in the midwest just take a little strategic planning.
I have a friend who always makes the best brownies and when I found out they were from a box I was blown away… Turns out her trick is adding an extra egg or 2 to whatever mix she uses. I haven’t tried it tho, since they’re always a million times better when someone else makes them anyway!
I didn’t see a single firework on 4thi of July and it completely bummed me out!. But I am a total mush when it comes to holiday traditions and a big fireworks show on Independence Day is a must!
I don’t know… Orphan Black. Not really my jam. I think I have pretty similar TV taste as you: walking dead, OITNB, Homeland (gah, is it back yet!?) Masters of Sex, True Detective…. and Orphan Black fell short among for me. The lead gal did a really good job, but overall it felt too sci-fi for my liking, and also too, like…obvious? Have you watched Fargo yet? Lurved that.
I just want that killer sundae for breakfast. Ugh kill me. And I totally look at houses that are too expensive, and then I’m totally bummed out when we go look at houses we CAN afford. Booo
Long weekends that end on Monday are the best! You put in a full week and are rewarded with a day off AND a short week. Otherwise you come off of the long weekend high to the start of a full week of work. Monday mornings are bad to start with. Very depressing
That dessert looks ridiculously mind blowing! Long weekend wise, I’m more a fan of Mondays off. Fridays are typically more chilled out days anyway, but Mondays – let’s face it, there’s no #TGIM hashtag for a reason. ;)
Ok, that dessert pictured above looks divine!…Forget about dinner, I just want to go straight for dessert.
I’ve heard good things about Orphan Black; I need to watch it!
End on Monday. I love Fridays, whether I have the day off or not, they always seem more relaxed. And, there’s nothing better than knowing you don’t have to wake up on a Monday morning…not to mention that the week also goes by faster. I
I seriously cannot adequately express how much you are missing out by not watching Orphan Black. It’s pretty much the best show on television. The acting is so freaking good, and the story is interesting and sad and exciting and funny. This season just ended, so you have time to catch up before it starts again! I’mma keep watching True Blood because it’s the last season and I want to see how it wraps up, but I’m pretty over it. Disappointment, seriously. I am excited about Masters of Sex coming back. I had hoped for the first season to be a little better, but it got pretty good, so I have high hopes. Also, I had this thing for the longest time where I swear my mom’s tea was way better than mine, and I even asked her for her secrets and everything. So simple, yet somehow not as good. How? Moms! I’ve decided to quit wasting my money on avocados at the moment. Every time I buy them they’re no good and it only makes me angry.
Definitely Mondays, I loathe Mondays and I would prefer to work on Frodays because I’m in such a god mood because helllllllo it’s the weekend in 8 hours!
If you want fireworks and avocados, you should come out here to Los Angeles. My neighborhood was like a war zone all night and every avocado is a good avocado. I think most of the good fireworks are being smuggled in from Mexico, Nevada, or Indian reservations but we never go to that much trouble. We just watch everyone else’s hard work, hope our trees don’t catch on fire, and put in a set of ear plugs after 11PM.
I highly recommend Orphan Black, though I only watched the first season so far.
Boxed brownie mix? Replace the water with either coffee, wine or amaretto/kahlua or a mixture of coffee/alcohol of choice. It ramps up the flavor immensely!
I think I prefer Monday holidays – because if it isn’t busy on a Friday we get to start the holiday weekend early!
I like to add instant coffee to boxed brownies and extra vanilla to boxed brownie mix (if I go that route) – always adds the flava!
I always have some boxed brownies in my pantry. That did look yummy! Kind of wish I had one now.
Okay…definitely Monday off is better because Friday has a naturally built in fun vibe that Mondays have no chance of competing with. Summer TV watching…if you’re into fantasy and haven’t tried Game of Thrones (I don’t think I’ve ever seen you talk about it), that would be a good one to catch up with…crazy good quality story and characters/character development and the sets are amazing, really movie quality….much older, but very addicting was Battlestar Galactica….see this link for a HYSTERICAL view of it on a Portlandia episode, if you haven’t seen this Portlandia clip, it’s worth it for a good laugh for any binge watchers….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzY7POVQhp0…..yes, it was addicting…..completely agree with True Blood, but I’ve invested the time and so I will see it to the end….In the desert of summer options, we recently started Nurse Jackie and are hooked….
We were so lazy on July 4 that ended up just seeing the fireworks from downtown through my apartment window. I get it haha! Also, have you watched Blackbox? I love it, definitely recommend giving it a try. As for long weekends, (which I’ll prob not see as many of anymore boooo) def start on a Friday. Nothing feels better than Thursday knowing what’s ahead IMO! :)
If you think Realtor.com is addicting….try looking at Sotheby’s Luxury Real Estate website!!!……a Chateau in Switzerland or a penthouse in London or a private island all sound lovely to me!!
I laughed out loud at #3. Too funny.
I love number 9. I need to remind myself that my daughter is seeing everything I do as an example. Sheesh. That’s overwhelming to think about.
My mom adds an extra egg to boxed brownies. However, she just decided to tell me this a few years ago. Perhaps this is your Mom’s secret too…
Rather have Fridays off. Didn’t see any fireworks either due to pouring rain all day on the 4th. Just bought a box of ghiraradelli brownie mix as I always keep a box of brownies in my pantry for emergency chocolate needs. I am currently watching Revenge on Netflix – gahh it’s so good, on Season 2.
Ok seriously, the ghiraradelli brownie mix is by far the best brownies I’ve ever had. It’s crazy how, in this one particular instance, I actually prefer the boxed version over homemade.
