baby favorites: six weeks in.
So here is a list of things we’ve been crazy loving the last six weeks! We always swore our home would never be taken over by baby things but, ummm… that is seemingly impossible. Make sure to leave me comments below of what you and your babe are loving. Because, you know, we really need more STUFF.
The Halo Bassinest. This is by far the best purchase/investment we made. If you read my few pregnancy updates, you know that I really didn’t buy a thing before the baby was born, even buying nursery (which still isn’t finished) furniture at the eleventh hour. We really thought he would be in his room from day one. As we got closer to delivery, I realized that I probably would not want to be walking down the hall for midnight feedings and Eddie said he really thought he wanted the baby in our room at first. Thank goodness for that realization ahead of time because after he was born and we fell in major love, some type of bassinet would have needed to be purchased and we may have missed out on this. I actually stumbled upon the bassinest on amazon when researching the whole where-to-sleep debacle. The reviews were stellar and after thinking about it for a few days, I deemed it necessary. It is. Our bed is SO high off the ground and this can be lifted to that high level. It is super sturdy and sleek. I can look right at him from my bed. It worked wonders in the beginning because I had such severe back pain – and I believe that this is also recommended for women who have c-sections. Not to mention, I think it’s super chic and modern looking. I love how it swivels. It’s just AWESOME. And based on some other bassinets I saw in Babies R Us before he was born – they were in the $250-300 range – I thought the price on this was great. After using it for six weeks, I can definitely say it’s worth the price.
The Aden and Anais dream blanket. GAH. Words cannot express my love for this super soft and thick blanket. I want one for myself – and apparently they make it! This is something I did purchase right before he was born. I had a Nordstrom gift card and was nutty over the Aden + Anais things. This is so warm. I spread it on the floor and lay him on it to kick around, we use it to get all cuddly when we nurse, I keep it at the foot of our bed for nighttime nursings because I prefer to do skin on skin at night too, I even use this as a blanket for myself when he is asleep. My mom has loosely swaddled him in it and sometimes I throw it on his legs in the carseat since it’s been so cold. And it only gets softer with each wash. It’s obviously not a true necessity and I’d classify it as a luxury item, but I adore it. I think it makes the perfect gift for an expecting mom or new baby. I don’t love any blanket like I love this.
The 4moms rockaroo. So, we have the mamaroo AND the rockaroo. Truly, our living room looks like a newborn bomb went off. I was gifted the mamaroo for my shower and was SO excited about it. It was like the one thing I really wanted for Max, it just seemed super cool. However, he just… isn’t in to it? They seem to be a very loved or hated product and I wonder if he’s still too tiny to enjoy it? I found that if I fed him, changed him and put him in the mamaroo he’d last for about 15 minutes (often less) before screaming. A few weeks ago, 4moms contacted me and asked if we wanted to try the rockaroo. Since they are a Pittsburgh-based company and I was totally bummed about the mamaroo, I said sure and hoped for the best. HE LOVES IT. When I was researching these before my shower, many moms said their babies like the rockaroo better to begin with. I ignored that since the mamaroo seemed so awesome – but I’m here to say that we adore the rockaroo so much more. He is so happy rocking back and forth. I’m still going to keep trying the mamaroo in hopes that he one day loves it. I wish they made one in an adult size.
The Aden + Anais bamboo swaddles. Now, I’m picky about my A + A swaddles! Granted, they are all wonderful. But – my cousin Lacy bought me the 3-pack of bamboo swaddles at Nordstrom when she found out I was pregnant. They are SO soft. They are so much softer than the 4-pack of regular swaddles. So much so in fact that I can’t even do the non-bamboo ones. Everyone recommended these to me and it’s true – they work as blankets, loose swaddles, are great for nursing covers, etc. Plus, they are just so cute. The bamboo ones are pricier and only come with 3 as opposed to 4, but during the Nordstrom anniversary sale you can find them on sale and they often have exclusive prints. That’s when I bought my other two boxes last summer and I believe they were around $29 for 3 instead of $45. These also make a great gift! I use them every single day.
The Halo Sleepsack Swaddles – in cotton AND fleece. Oh my gosh. These SAVED us. My friend Tiff gifted me one of these soon after I found out I was pregnant, telling me how much it helped them with sleep in the beginning. On our second or third night home, after battling with the miracle blanket swaddle (which I do not care for at all), I remembered this was in the drawer and dug it out. It is so easy to swaddle since it has velcro on it, plus the fleece ones are super warm. He LOVES these and most of the time instantly falls asleep when swaddled. I wanted to drive to Tiff’s house in the middle of the night and hug her for giving this to me. The next day, I ordered one more and had my mom pick me one up at Babies R Us in case of nighttime incidents. I can’t fathom sleep without these. They are cheapest on amazon!
Baby nightgowns, like these. I love love love them. I picked up a few before he was born after reading that they were great for easy changing and while the umbilical cord heals. Both are definitely true – plus they are just comfy, cozy and hello – adorable. Baby looks like a little sack of potatoes! I’ve heard that these are a love or hate item – and I’ll say that Eddie isn’t a huge fan just because he finds them difficult to take on and off. But I love them. I now have quite the collection because my friends and family know how much I adore them and they are difficult to find. Someone suggested in another post that you can find ones in thrift/consignment shops, so I can’t wait to look. My mom gave me one that she had from my brothers and it’s too adorable.
The Solly baby wrap. I have a few wraps but this was the least intimidating, most stretchy and cozy/comfy for me to try first. I love it. I love wearing him so, so much. Now, I don’t find it easy to do every day tasks yet while wearing him since he is still gaining neck control – I find that I feel comfortable with a hand on his head if I’m doing things around the house. Which obviously slows things down. And you can’t bend over while wearing this, so again, another strike against daily tasks, like unloading the dishwasher. BUT – I love to wear him just because. Around week 3 he had a growth spurt and wouldn’t stop screaming so I threw him in the wrap and he quieted down immediately. The day after Christmas I had him in the wrap and he slept for five hours. I also prefer wearing him in the wrap in the grocery store – since it’s flu season and I tend to see a bunch of people I know, I like having him close and somewhat “untouchable” during this early stage and cold months. If you’re intimidated by this, just watch youtube videos.
The babyGap 100% organic cotton onesies and pants. These are ridiculously soft. I love them so much – and love the neutral cream color they come in. I have size 0-3 months and they were pretty huge on him until now. They are still roomy at 6 weeks and 9-10ish pounds, so they give room to grow.
This wipe warmer. I KNOW. STOP JUDGING ME. I am the person that got a wipe warmer, kept it, AND bought a second one. So I didn’t register for one of these and definitely thought it was gimmicky. But my friends were split down the middle – some thought it was a complete joke while others said it was wonderful and a must-have during changing time when they are little. I got one for my shower and decided to see how it went. Um, we LOVE this. As ridiculous as it sounds, I’d actually call this as a necessity for us. Eddie loves it more than me – but he does almost all the changings if he is home. We loved it so much that after the first week, he went and bought a second one so we could have one upstairs and downstairs. As he says… wouldn’t YOU want to use warm wipes? Ha.
The Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple balm. I had some regular Lanisoh in my hospital bag to prepare for nursing and that’s what they gave me at the hospital, but the day after he was born, Jenna sent me this and told me how wonderful it is. AHH! I could not have survived without it, frankly. I am on my third tub of it. It’s so much better than the Lanisoh… and it smells awesome. Kind of like cocoa buttery. This was/is a definite must have.
On that same note, I love these Bamboobies! They came up as a recommended item on the Nordstrom website (though I can no longer find them on there?!) when I bought the dream blanket. Having no idea what I was in for, I bought a pack. I am so, so glad I did. I have since bought two more packs, just in case I can’t/forget to throw mine in the wash. These are sooo soft. As for disposable nursing pads, I’ve tried the Johnson + Johnson ones, Medela ones and the Lansinoh ones and the Lansinoh are by far my favorite.
The Belly Bandit! I mentioned this in one of my first posts. I bought it before he was born after seeing other bloggers and friends mention it. Little did I know it would be the thing that helped my back feel 100% better! It offered so much support. It probably also helped “shrink” things back into place like it says it does, but I measured a bit small so my stomach wasn’t very huge. After I blogged about it a few weeks ago, Belly Bandit offered to send me the mother tucker corset (ha!) to try and I couldn’t resist. While it is pretty awesome, it has a million hook and eyes and right now I can’t manage to get it on everyday. If I had to suggest one, I’d go with the velcro version. And at the beginning – I’d have Eddie velcro me into it which helped my back immensely.
The Fisher Price Rock and Play. I got this as a gift and it is also one of the BEST things we received. I’ve only heard wonderful things about this – many friends even have their babes sleep in it at night. We keep it downstairs in the living room and it’s what he naps in during the day, or what he sometimes just hangs out in while I cook. It’s also very lightweight so I can carry it up and down the stairs easily. It’s easily transportable and you can travel with it. It’s what I put him in when I shower and/or put on some makeup, (attempt to) clean up the house or do laundry and unload the dishwasher. Definitely recommended. It’s also quite affordable!
This Crane humidifier. It may go without saying that this is awesome and those of you who are veteran moms are probably laughing at me. But it’s been so cold and dry this winter and Max sounded so stuffy at night – when the pediatrician suggested firing up the humidifier, I did so and now I’m not sure than Eddie and I can sleep without it. And if a humidifier can look fun, this is it.
The Baby Feed app. This is the app that I use to track feedings and what not – it was the first that I found and downloaded in the hospital and I still really love it. It’s worked great for us so far.
[this post is not sponsored and is merely a list of products we’ve loved the last six weeks. 4moms sent us the rockaroo but we were not required to talk about it nor were we offered compensation for talking about it. everything else was either purchased by me or a gift from family and friends. there are a few amazon affiliate links above. thank you! xoxo]

Love reading all of your baby posts! My daughter is 4 months (what!?) so I’ve done the run through of baby items I love and that were fails. With what seems like a million friends who are pregnant they are always asking what products I recommend and it’s so hard because you don’t know what works until you have your baby! All babies are different! We have the mamaroo and the first 6 weeks-ish it was all I used, I would not have made it without the mamaroo. Then, she simply was over it. We passed it on to my cousin who just had a baby. So funny how it works at different times for different babies, or not at all!
We also use the Crane humidifier and I can’t sleep without it now… I’m not sure you’re “supposed to” do this but I put essential oils in mine. I use lavender, lemongrass and roman chamomile. It smells divine and helps baby to sleep better!
Love seeing your little man grow, congratulations!
Aww Jessica I do not have a baby–26 but the hubs and I will start trying in 2 years. I saw your post on Instagram and think it is really special that you’re sharing this. From blogger to blogger–I love when you share your crumbs! It is one of my favs. xoxo
I just love reading lists like this! It’s so helpful to read what other people loved! I have a 7month old and we had literally zero baby things when he was born. We adopted him when he was 2 days old and only had a few panicky hours of notice before he was ours. It was an insane few days. Haha
I also love the wipe warmer. We don’t always have it plugged in, but wipes are cheaper if they are in the packs that aren’t resealable so they stay moist in there! We did use a swing for a bit, Noah loved it some days and hated it on others. A cheap bouncy seat was in our bathroom until just recently when he got to big for it. He was happy playing in there so I could shower or do my hair.
We bottle fed (obviously, adoption=no breastfeeding) and I found a bottle warmer to be ESSENTIAL . I know you can warm it 100 other ways, but this is so easy! And for $10 new? How could you go wrong.
We have soft blankets that are super fuzzy and thick with a silky edges that noah has snuggled into since he was new. Now he has got all attached to them and can not fall asleep without one.
Clothes wise, someone gave us streachy overalls and they are so cute, but also comfy and nicer then the Jean ones. Noah started crawling about a month ago and baby jeans just aren’t as good for crawling.
I am sure I could write about so many other thinga we love, but I’ll stop! I really enjoy reading your baby posts and watching you become a momma ! ❤️
thank you for all of this!! and congrats, i am thrilled for you! xoxo
We also couldn’t live without the rock and play, solly wrap, or A + A swaddles…definitely key for us! I wish I had known about the bassinet you mention. We keep the baby in the rock and play at night, and our bed is also ridiculously high…it would have been nice to have something at that height. Maybe next time! I also love the Fisher Price Pack and Play. We have one that has a changing station built in, and we keep it in our living room so there’s always an easy place to change the baby on both floors of the house. It also has a ton of storage, which is awesome, and will eventually be used as a play pen. As an alternative to the Solly, we also have the Ergobaby carrier, which is great for more activity (like bending over! or going for a more vigorous walk) and I think it will be better than the Solly when he is a little bigger. Oh! And the Chicco Keyfit Caddy stroiler is the best ever. So easy to open and close, and it has a big basket in the bottom, which makes quick trips to the store a breeze. Our next challenge: transitioning him to the crib. I may look into a halo sleeping blanket next…
Oh yeah! And a steam bottle warmer! Makes all the difference when we’re pulling pumped breastmilk straight from the fridge. We never heat it up so much that it’s WARM, but it’s super great for taking the chill off the milk. Makes bottle feeding a touch easier!
Aaaah! Reading this was literally like reading my own thoughts. We have ALL these items and feel exactly the same as you (Levi hates the MamaRoo, but loves the RockaRoo, corset = yessssss, solly wrap is for sure an omg.cant.live.without (took him out at 3 days ((yes, im the crazy momma who took her baby out at 3 days old because i desperately needed to get out of the house… To the grocery store ahahhahaha)) and have been sold on it ever since!), and the bassinet – GAH! .Love this, love this stuff, and LOVE the uber aborable pics of Max! Have fun, momma!
PS. When Max is older, comotomo makes an orange teether that is THA SHIIIIIIIT. And their silicone bottles that feel like real boobies are Levi’s favorite :) Check them out!!!
i wanted to get some of those bottles and at the time, they were sold out EVERYWHERE!! he’s only had a bottle about 5 times so far, but the tommee tippee ones are working now. i may get some of the comotomo!
We very much loved baby sleep sacks. My girls both slept in them for the first 3 years. You never have to worry about them kicking off their blankets in the night, and makes it so much harder to escape from the crib! It was the number one baby item for us. Enjoy your little cutie!
Ah yes, the baby things! My son is 2 now & I totally miss all the cool baby things. I too love the a + a blankets & the Halo sleep sacks as well. Looks like you got a lot of cool goodies too. The mamaroo was too expensive for us but it looks really cool! I wish there was an adult version too!
I loved the Halo sleepsacks too when my first was a newborn. So easy, she was a master of getting out of the swaddle with a regular blanket. I also love the Aiden blankets, I got a new packet for my second (coming in March!) and love the patterns. I’ll have to try that balm, I’ve had friends recommend it to me too. Loved reading this!
We don’t have the mamaroo but around the time Parker was this age we started using a bouncer thatt vibrates. I think ours is an Ingenuity one? It was a hand me down and he loved that thing until he got so heavy that it started touching the floor. Don’t know how you feel about pacifiers but the Wubbanub was the best for us once he turned 3 months old. Not interested before that. Then at 6 months he decided pacifiers were for little babies and refuses it, buuuuut we got some good use out of it. Our Jellycat owl blanket thing was also on heavy rotation. He would hold it while I carried him and chew on the owl’s face. The A+A burpy bibs (the ones that wrap around) are our favorite and so so necessary now that he drools like a fountain. Yay baby things!
We have the mamaroo and my little miss was not super into it in her earlier weeks, but she will hang out in it now (3.5 months old) so there is still hope :-) I love reading your baby updates!! Thanks for sharing :-)
A fun fact – did you know that the reason that the shoulders are made the way they are with the folds, is in case baby has a blowout, you can pull the onesie down over the shoulders instead of having to deal with pulling a onesie up and over the head!
I miss my babies – now 4 and 7!
i just recently learned this! it has been wonderful, haha.
Oh boy, I am so bookmarking this for future reference! I’m due with my first baby — a boy! — in June, and I have no ever-lovin’ idea what I’m doing. My husband is so supportive, but our sum experience around children is, like, -1893468 hours. We’re going to start our registry this weekend — will have to keep your suggestions in mind! (And I’m totally taking my mom. She will certainly have a better grip on all this than I do.)
this is EXACTLY how we were.
and good call on taking your mom – that’s what i did too!
Love these baby posts! I due in May and love hearing about what works for you! :)
Thanks for sharing <3
Love all of these recommendations! I’m due in May and starting to think about everything we need… crazy overwhelming! We got a pack n play with bassinet as a hand me down, and I was just going to use that for sleeping in our room, but your rave reviews of the Halo Bassinet has me intrigued. So I thought I’d ask….Do you have premier version with the sounds/vibration or just the essentia version? Curious to know if the extra cost is worth it :)
Max is so adorable! Love reading all of your baby posts.
that’s a great question – i do have the one with the sounds/vibration (i’m 99% sure it was the only one available at the time and the others released earlier this month) – but i’ve never used it! mostly because i don’t want to wake eddie and thankfully max has seemed to go back to sleep at night easily. you can definitely do the essentia one!
You can find the Velcro Halo swaddlers at TJMaxx and Marshalls for super cheap.!!!
We used and loved so many of these products. I also used a boppy and loved it…don’t know if I could have done without it.
oh awesome!! i’m going to look!
Something to keep in mind for the future: have you heard of the zipadee zip? My daughter loved to be swaddles but at around 4 months she was always busting out of the Velcro halo swaddles and taking really short naps. Around that time I saw the zipadee zip on Shark Tank, of all things, and totally bought one and it is a LIFEsaver! It’s basically a sleep sack shaped kind of like a star, so her hands are covered and it provides a little resistance against the startle reflex. She’s now 6 months and I just ordered 2 in a medium because she still loves to be snuggled in that thing! (and having only one in the small has made for some desperate laundry situations!) Highly recommend if he still likes to be swaddled down the road but becomes an escape artist!! :)
i have not!! thank you for this.
I totally agree about the Halo swaddle sacks. We keep ours laid out in her newborn napper attached to the Pack ‘n Play so it’s easy to slip her in when she’s milk drunk sleepy. I don’t swaddle during the day but at night it’s a necessity. At 8 weeks, I’ll be sad when she outgrows this one.
I definitely recommend the Ergo with the newborn insert. It holds up their head and you have much more ability to use both hands. It takes some struggles to get the little one in but I found some decent youtube videos showing me how. When my husband watches her, he uses a very basic sling and that’s usually enough to calm her down and let him play on his phone.
I couldn’t justify the cost of a mamaroo or even a rock ‘n play, but we have a cheap bouncer seat that works just fine, especially in the bathroom with the exhaust fan putting her into a little white noise baby trance.
I love the halo bassinet, wish those were around when my boys were born. I love that you keep him close. I felt so sorry for some of the women I worked with, they were having babies, and were going to put the little one in a room by themselves. Definitely not my style, and now that the boys are big, 20 and 15, they’re sometimes still pretty cuddly, but more like big puppies than my cute babies. Oh, those were the days.
Love your list! I’m due at the beginning of May and have been fine-tuning our registry before we send out our shower invitations. Would you mind supplying the link to the Baby Feed app you use–I can’t seem to find that one on the app store.
i just had a difficult time finding it too! apparently it’s called ibaby feed timer, but on your phone it will just say “baby feed.” here is what it looks like!
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ibaby-feed-timer-breastfeeding/id395357581?mt=8
oh also i do track everything else on here: diapers, sleep, pumping bottles, etc! so it is great.
Awesome, thank you!
My little man, and by little, I mean I can’t believe that he’s already 15 months old, absolutely HATED his arms in when we swaddled him, so we bought the Aden and Anais blankets and swaddled him under his armpits, he slept like a dream. He was in our room for the first 6 months, because we’re hyper paranoid, so we got the Graco pack and play that has the removable newborn napper. It’s portable, so when he fell asleep at night, we would just carry him upstairs in it and plop him into the pack and play we had in our room. We also bought a Graco swing that doubles as a bouncer chair. The part where baby lays lifts out of the frame, and you can set it on the floor bouncy chair style. We love multiple purpose items! We also downloaded the Baby Connect app on our iPhones. It keeps track of bottles, diapers, medical history, milestones, everything you can think of. I put ALL of Henry’s info in there. It was especially amazing when he was first born, my wife was on baby duty until 2 am, I was on baby duty after 2 am. With the app, there was zero confusion as to what time he ate, when he last pooped, etc.
definitely going to look into this app! thanks!
How long did Max wear newborn clothes for? My mom keeps telling me not to bother buying any (I’m 29 weeks pregnant) as she says when I was born at 8 1/2 lbs, I never used them. This was many years ago… so I’m not sure i trust her memory! I currently have a lot of 0-3 month clothes but only a few newborn outfits and am trying to decide if I should get more. Thanks for helping a future mother out! I figure who better to ask than a new mom.
he is STILL wearing newborn clothes!! crazy, right? i also had this fear – and didn’t buy anything until week 38 (when i bought a few cream gap outfits that i linked above) since i didn’t know if i was having a boy/girl. EVERYONE told me he wouldn’t be wearing newborn clothes very long – well here we are at week 7 and he can still fit in ALL of them. he was born at 6lbs 9 oz and now weights close to 10lbs – of course this will differ with how babies are shaped, etc, but i’m so glad we got the newborn clothes that we did. the 0-3 and 3 months were just HUGE on him and he was swimming in them, and it would make it difficult to even carry him at times.
i will say – brand sizes differ SO much, for instance the gap 0-3 stuff is still really big on him, while other 3 month things (like carters) are starting to fit him now. it just differs on brands i think.
whew, sorry so long.
Thank you for the good info!
Well, my baby boy is now 14 (!) and I have to say I am completely jealous of all the cool things you have that were not even thought of when he was born. I guess each generation gets their own doodads! When I was born, I was lucky to have a blanket of my own (7 older brothers and sisters to contend with).
I poo-pood a wipe warmer until my sister-in-law sent me the Dex Space Saver one and we love it. Now that I’m trying to potty train my little squirt it’s not as important but I really should have bought a second one for upstairs, too. You sound like you’re having such a fun time with your little guy and that’s so awesome!
Thank you for sharing all these posts. They are so beautiful and surprisingly reassuring to someone who has not given birth but expects to get married and have children some day. Even though you are rather honest and don’t always approve of it all you are painting an honest picture and the emotions you share make the acceptance of the difficulties understandable. You are putting into words the inner depths that most women can’t explain which help everyone on the outside make sense of why the extreme change to your life is shocking but yet not regrettable or overly difficult to accept. Normally moms can tell you the hard stuff and hard adjustments but not why it is still ok to them. Thank you!
I work for Fisher-Price so I am so glad to see you love the Rock n Play!!
Ahh reading your baby updates makes me sad – I’m so in denial that my little one is already 9 months!!! It does fly so enjoy this time :) We loved the Halo Sleepsacks and the Rock and Play too. Once he gets a little bigger, we adored the Fisher Price Kick and Play Piano Gym. Our cutie was always always always kicking her little legs like crazy, so she had a blast with it. We were actually just about to put it away when she rediscovered it crawling and now she’s all over it again :)
i love reading your baby posts!! i totally agree on the bamboo vs muslin swaddles. in fact i just ordered more bamboo ones today because the three we have are not enough! i am glad i ended up returning the mamaroo before using it because i read the same thing everywhere, that it’s not that great. i never tried the rockaroo, though. awesome they sent it to you. we loooove the swaddle sacks by halo. so awesome! max is too cute, i am over the moon for you!
Jessica! I am so happy max is way to cute. I was scared of birth for a while! Tips: nap when the baby naps (from my doula class), don’t drink! (ur baby is going through major brain construction alchol can damage the brain or worse can cause alchohol syndrome yeah!) also, stay hydrated, and enjoy the lovely bunch o joy! P.S even if it is hard not to drink try not drink or just don’t nurse the baby …….until i guess you think it’s outta ur sysytem. Max is tooooooooooo cute FE-REAL!
aww, reading all of your posts makes me SAD!! My oldest will be 5 on Monay (cue ugly cry) and my “baby” is 2.5. I so miss the baby stage. Enjoy it while you can, as you can already see it flies by! I don’t have any baby suggestions, but thinking ahead: are you planning to make your own baby food? Its soooo easy, and my kids loved it!!
Cuteness overload! Did you know Aden + Anais has a line at target? They sell swaddling blankets. Wondering if you knew or tried them.
I tweeted out about the quality of the blankets & was tweeted back that the swaddling blankets sold at target are the same quality/softness as what you get from Nordstrom or the Aden + Anais website. ❤️
Loving all the baby posts! Due in two weeks (!) so especially enjoying following your stories as it may be my life in very near future!

I’m rereading this as I nurse my 3 week old. Actually I’ve reread all your baby posts multiple times! Fisher price rock n play SAVED us all. Baby does not like swaddles or laying in crib, but will sleep in the rnp. You’re posts remind me to appreciate the days no matter how long. I know DS will be 18 months before I know it. Thanks for all your sharing!
