Tuesday Things.
1. We have been LIVING outside. I think we ate every single meal outside for the last four days? There is nothing I won’t throw on the grill.
2. Speaking of, I planted all sorts of flowers and herbs and tomatoes and stuff. Finally! I full expect them to be dead in two weeks. Must find: garden fairy. I want to plant more and more. I want my house to be covvvvered in flowers.
3. What in the freaking world. Chocolate dipped caramel s’mores. SERIOUSLY.
4. I’m mortified to say that I’ve been using snapchat more and more, even thought I don’t understand it, find it kind of ridic and know I’m waaaaaay too old for this business. But! I sort of like sharing the most boring parts of my day that are nowhere instagram worthy considering everything on insta has to be perfectly manicured and sparkly and new and unrealistic. You know? Anyway, I’m over there. On snapchat. All embarrassed and terrified.
5. Every night I’ve been french braiding my hair in pigtails after showering instead of drying it or throwing it on top of my head. No, I’m not trying to be 13 years old but yes, I am trying to easily get beachy waves with zero effort. It works. Dooo it.
6. I’m still sort of reeling from the Mad Men finale, reading every recap I can and rewatching the last episode. No no, I do not have a life thank you very much. There is, like, NOTHING on TV in the summer so we don’t really watch much. We are watching Game of Thrones but I sort of half watch. I know, I have zero taste. I horrifyingly got interested in Mistresses two summers ago. Yeah. We will watch Orange is the New Black when it comes out. Oh and I am SOOO excited for Masters of Sex to come back. YES.
7. P.S. Look! Why Mad Men changed everything.
8. Um, hello. Are you more Ina or Jeffrey Garten? Guess who I got.
9. Maybe attempting to bake a cake today. Like a real life cake that has layers and stuff. No patience. Pray for me.
10. I hate and love that it’s Tuesday but it’s really Monday even though it’s Tuesday. You know? Will this be the longest week in the history of ever? I declare it honorary margarita Monday.

Will absolutely be the longest week ever – aren’t all short weeks?? Torture. Loving on that baby of yours, he’s a keeper :-)
ooooh sending you good cake vibes!!!!! can’t wait to see how it turns out!!!!
I used to love braiding my hair when it was wet! Thanks for the reminder, I am going to do it this week :) Good luck with the cake – I live for chocolate fudge layer cakes but only bake them myself on a rare occasion.
I completely feel you on the snapchat thing…I’m 38 and it confuses me but I’m loving it for the same exact reasons you described. I’ve also recently started actually watching those live current events and city highlights snapchat just adds in your “feed”…they fuel my wanderlust and cultural curiosity in the same way without instagram “perfection” and once I learned you could “fast forward” by tapping the screen with another finger, i no longer fear a longer (3 minute? lol) commitment.
Love your blog, btw :)
yes, THIS!
I’ve been struggling too since Mad Men has left us :(
But I’ve recently started marathoning Empire and it’s changing my life in the best way possible. You should check it out, I think you’d enjoy it!
I watched Empire when it was on and LOVED it. But I say “watch” loosely since Max was so little and I was pretty much half-watching it with him. I need to watch it again so I can fully get what’s going on!
I’ve been outside as much as possible. It was a long and brutal winter….there are no words to describe the cabin fever.
So, I got Ina which makes the longest short work week bearable.
We just bought a new patio table and I have been forcing Lee to eat every meal outside…which, I think he hates.
Snapchat! I also just joined (which is kinda pathetic… I’m 17, shouldn’t I have known about this thing sooner?), and though it was insanely confusing at first… I sort of like it now. There are things I want to share that just aren’t Instagram worthy, y’know? <3
You crack me up! Reading #’s 1-4 made me feel like I had written this post! Seriously. You and I have a LOT in common. Also, snapchat makes me laugh. I barely know how to use it, but I love posting things on there. My 15 year old daughter is mortified. Makes it that much sweeter ;)
I love braiding my damp hair too, it’s such a time saver!

I feel you on snapchat! Sometime I wanna share parts of my day that are not instaworthy (aka don’t look like those yummy donuts at the top of this post) but if something interesting or funny happens (aka baking fail)
Ooo, I hope you keep us posted on the gardening front. I’ve been trying to grow some basil myself, but a windowsill in student housing in Northern Ireland is perhaps not the ideal site for horticulture.
northern ireland? can i live vicariously through you?! tell me more!
I’d happily trade places with you for a week — I’ve been really missing America, especially the food, with all the Memorial Day hoopla. Plus Belfast isn’t as Irish as most Americans image it to be, although it certainly has its charms. And I have been enjoying Ireland on the occasions when I’m able to escape the grad school beast and get out of the city.
Can we add you on snapchat? Whats your user id?
of course! it’s howsweeteats.
Girl I think I’m too old for Snapchat too but I’m having so much fun with it! I just added you (I think hahah I just guessed your username lollll)
Oh my those chocolate dipped caramel s’mores just look amazing!! I’ve been obsessed with all types of s’mores lately!
I love your snap chat feed!!! You’re never too old! My whole family has snap chat, even my dad who’s in his 50s, ha ha. You’re so right – Its a fun and informal way of sharing pics you never would have otherwise (pics that were not otherwise ‘important’ enough).
thank you!!
Wait, I’m so impressed that you can french braid your own hair! That’s the kind of skill that I somehow missed learning (okay, along with all the other “doing your hair” skills…). Maybe it’s because I try to read my book and blowdry at the same time..?
i should have mentioned – when i french braid my own, it’s upside down! you know what i mean? like it sticks out instead of going in?
I LOVE YOU ON SNAPCHAT! I think its so adorable how you use the cute lil emojis and DUH I love all the extra pictures of Max. So adorable!!!!
haha thank you so much!!
Well, thank you thank you for reminding me that Masters of Sex existed–it’s been gone for too long! I’m a fan :)
I’m right there with you on the Mad Men front. Linda Holmes always nails it, and her final review did not disappoint: http://www.npr.org/sections/monkeysee/2015/05/18/407665189/-mad-men-ends-singing-a-familiar-song
TV show suggestion: Shameless. I binge-watched 5 seasons in an amount of time I am uncomfortable revealing, and spent an equally pathetic amount of time mourning the temporary loss of the show (until winter) when I was finished. It’s a little frightening how emotionally attached I can feel about TV characters…… Other people have this issue, right?! Anyway, it’s a great show… Love your blog and book and everything in between!!!
Those s’mores though! My husband and i are on a serious bender and finding the best combos. We just bought a sinful amount of candy this past weekend and so far the top runners are Reese Cup S’mores and Carmello S’mores. I am ready to try them with the Lindt chocolate bars and see how far I can gloriously trash them up!!
Supa jealous of you living outside for meals! I would except we have zero outdoor furniture and the mosquitoes in Houston are rather HUGE. I’ll live through you until I invest in a ginormous mosquito net:)
Ok I love Mistressses- did you hear Alyssa Milano isn’t coming back?! :( oh well June 18th and I love Joss and Harry!
I AM LOVING YOUR SNAPCHATS!!! I’ve been using it for awhile and I did not know that you could change the size and placement of the words and emoticons, I learned that from YOU!!! So thank you for that because I am actually enjoying it a lot more!! Keep your Snapchats coming!! :D
