Tuesday Things.
1. GUESS WHAT. My brother is getting married in four days! I can’t even wait. Eeeeeek.
2. I’m sort of on dinner strike this week due to work and the busyness of #1, but I desperately want to make these crispy fish tacos. How incredible do those look?! Holy cow.
3. Can we talk about the fabulousness that is Sweetapolita’s sprinkle etsy shop?! Oh my gosh. Unicorn medley sprinkles. MERMAID magic sprinkles. I’m officially dead.
4. Apparently 90210 (like, the original one) is getting one of those true life documentary things. Who can I pay to play Kelly Taylor? If only for the clothes.
5. On living a meaningful life and taking shortcuts. I sort of want to meditate (isn’t it omg-all-the-rage?) but it’s hard work. Do you agree?
6. This is one of my favorite days of the year – the day that Elin Hilderbrand’s summer novel comes out. I reeeeeally just wanted to stay up all night so I could read it. Per usual, I will probably binge read it then be so sad it’s over. I’m the worst kind of millennial.
7. Okay TV things. We did watch Game of Thrones – I was more entertained by the compilation articles of tweets during the show. HA. We are halfway through Bloodline and freaking out over it. Oh my gosh. We are so hooked – I even convinced Eddie to stay up past his bedtime to binge on it. We did one episode of Orange is the New Black and I’m just like… meh. I didn’t love the first season, really enjoyed the second, but now am having a hard time getting into it. What are your thoughts?
8. Max isn’t quite big enough yet for a baby pool, but ummmm what would my neighbors think if I got one anyway and sat in it myself out in the yard? Horrifying. I might do it.

eeep! those sprinkles! i’m so sending those to my sister once she moves to the frozen north :)
Wait, isn’t that baby like 6 months old? And sitting up on his own? Totally big enough for a baby pool annnnd momma needs to sit in there with him. ;) Completely acceptable.
Also, Game of Thrones….I could not look away… Must not leave spoilers for others. :)
I’m dyingggg over the sprinkles and it’s taken so much restraint to not buy them!
90210!!! But, do you mean Kelly Taylor? Do you have Saved by the Bell on the brain, or am I just missing something? :)
I’m pretty disappointed with this season of Orange is the New Black. I watched season two in one day… I’m on like episode four and am in no hurry to watch the rest.
gahhhh yes I totally meant kelly taylor – as my 90s worlds collide.
Why isn’t Max big enough for a kiddie pool? If he can sit up I say he is! Then you have an excuse to sit in it with him! Do it!
I’m having the same struggle with OITNB, I’m just not as into it as I was last season.. And those sprinkles are insanely awesome.
Me three to the comments above on OITNB. Not digging it. Looooove those sprinkles, and totally have to order several. And….meditation. Just do it. Yes, it’s hard on some days, but that’s kinda the point. Sit. Breathe. Repeat.
Totally agree on the meditation thing! I just started this 30 day challenge ( http://www.doyouyoga.com/course/30-day-meditation-challenge/ ), the meditation sessions are only 10 minutes each, I’m 3 days in so far, it’s an interesting start, but I’m still bad at sitting still haha
I am reading THE book and so good that I actually loaded the kindle app on my WORK pc and am reading it all DAY LONG. :)
Totally get the kiddie pool, just throw some kids toys around the yard to prove you have a child LOL
Oh the sprinkle shop will get me in trouble.
I really like OTNB. The character development is so interesting. You become so torn by being horrified by what some of them did to feeling bad about the situations that lead them to where they are in life. And how some of them never had a fighting chance given the background they come from.
I’m SO obsessed with Sweetapolita’s sprinkle shop I just CAN’T even HANDLE the love!!!
Huge congratulations to your brother!!! So exciting!!
omg yes! I have the Rumor on my kindle and cannot wait to dive in tonight! Also I have another rec for you — just read last weekend — The Truth According to Us by Annie Barrows (so good). I posted a review upon my blog yesterday if you want to read more about it
I feel like I decided I’m over GOT and OITNB all in one week, which is devastating! Must find new addictive shows stat.
Those tacos, tho…
I started learning to meditate almost two years ago. Not because it’s all the rage, but because I was having serious anxiety, it did help a lot at the time. I went to a mindfulness meditation group and also did guided mediation on my own at home. I prefer the guided mediation because it’s easier (since you are listening to someone talk/repeating things). But I definitely see the benefit of mindfulness mediation and would really like to get back into the routine of it. I think I’ll give another try.
I’m on the last episode of OITNB…had to force myself to stop halfway through last night and get to bed. While the season hasn’t been anything earth shattering, I think they wanted the season to be a bit more emotional and focus on real-life issues, that normal, everyday people face. If you keep watching, maybe you’ll see what I mean?! IDK! They focus more on the characters back stories..how they grew up etc…..I hope you keep watching and report back your thoughts! :) Also, RUBY ROSE…new chick on the show…she’s beautiful and now I want to cut all my hair off. You may have to keep watching to see her :)
I started meditating a month ago and it has been amazing. I use the headspace app – his voice is so soothing – and it’s been a lot easier than I thought. I’ve struggled with anxiety for a long time and this has been so helpful, night and day difference in how I get through my days. I heard somewhere that the three most important things you can do to make a significant impact in your physical and metal health are: exercise, meditating, and reading.
Ummmm #8 My son is a year and a half and I fill up the inflatable pool for him, but he is so over it in ten minutes and then I just want to sit in it and lounge.
Congrats to your brother! How exciting.
I’m really enjoying this season of OITNB! I find that there are more flashbacks and back stories, which is my favourite part!
Also, I started watching Parenthood after I had seen you talk about it and I only have one episode left and am so sad. I don’t want it to ever end!!
We’re just getting into Parenthood and since we are old-school and don’t have internet or Netflix or cable…we have to rent it from the library. We will be binge watching Season 2…and all the other seasons while we wait for Blacklist Season 2, Person of Interest Season 4 and Newsroom Season 3!!!!
re: meditation
I’ve been on a mindfulness meditation journey for a little over a year now and it’s been life-altering. I would highly recommend looking into an 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course, as that is the most legit and thorough way to incorporate the practice into your life.
OMG. OMG. That Sprinkle Shop!!! I can’t even. <3 <3 <3
As soon as your little guy can sit up, he can do a pool! We got one for my daughter who is now about to be 7 months, but started using it when she was just about 6 months because she was sitting up well. We just sit her up against the edge so she has some support if needed. She really likes it!
Max can rock a baby pool – and totally get in too! My son was a bit older than yours when we had his first summer pool, but he loved it! He also liked a little splash mat that we got as a gift. It hooks up to the hose and sort of looks like a fountain. http://www.kmart.com/clearwater-sprinkle-n-splash-play-mat/p-004W004406198000P
I totally sat in the baby pool with my little guy and with the splash mat, I set up a lawn chair right next to it and we splashed and played together. Super fun. You should totally do it. :)
Yes! I am so incredibly excited about Elin Hilderbrand’s new book! I cannot wait to read it! I bet it’s going to be a great one!
#8 I’m turning 30 next month, grew up in Florida (i.e POOLS) but now live in Richmond, VA with no pool yet I’m having a pool party for my birthday. (!!!) Go check out how cheap pools are at Walmart, you might freak out. Pretty sure I’m getting an alligator float as well because I must. :)
Go get yourself that kiddie pool and have a blast!! You have a baby so it’s totally not weird!
Thanks for the taco love :) They were pretty awesome!
The sprinkle shop is amazing! It’s a totally new kind of shop! Good luck for your brother, I imagine that you are excited!

Erm . . . isn’t one of the bonuses of having a child being able to sit in the baby pool (or paddling pool as we call them in the UK) yourself??! Get in there . . .
Get the pool and go for it. Having kids is a great excuse to do lots of “childish” things. ;-)
Definitely get the pool. There will be no regrets.
You totally have to start watching “The Last Ship.” Eric Dane…so dreamy. If you thought he was cute as a dr., wait until you see him toting a gun and in Navy uniform….
I LOVED Bloodline and zipped through it and am so excited Netflix announced it would be coming back for season 2. I could not get into OITNB like I had the other seasons. It was just too slow for me where Bloodline had me anticipating the next move. I just started The Fall (also a Netflix show) and it’s SOOO good. Give it a shot please! Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan are amazing in it.
SO happy someone else is obsessed with Bloodline. I started it because of my Kyle Chandler obsessions and then had to physically hold myself back from watching more than two episodes a night. I also loved reading recaps after each episode (Vulture’s are the best)! I can’t wait to hear what you thought of it!!
Also just got The Rumor and of course I accidentally ordered Large Print. YOLO, God knows my eyes could use the help.
Thanks for the article…it was interesting on the “no hacks”. i agree meditating can be super simple or super hard depending on the day for me. i have tried it here and there and went to a few classes which i highly recommend as the teacher gave me excellent tips. gotta have the right teacher though i think. i have recently during the week started to just do some basic meditation/breathing in my car when i come home at night. its like my mind is going 100 miles per hour with all the work stuff that happened and all the home stuff thats about to happen that taking those few mins to just sit in my car and close my eyes and breath seems to help me. maybe try it ? try not to put pressure on yourself just do it a few mins.
Do you really care what your neighbors think? GET A BABY POOL! FILL IT UP! LEAVE IT OUT IN THE SUN SO THE WATER WARMS UP! GET IN AND SIT DOWN HOLDING MAX AND INTRODUCE HIM TO THE WATER! YOU WILL BE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED TO SEE HIM ENJOY BEING AROUND THE WATER AND NOT GETTING A BATH!
IF YOU SEE YOUR NEIGHBORS GIVING YOU A LOOK, YELL OVER THE FENCE, ‘COME ON OVER! THE WATER IS FINE!’
I think I tell myself once a week, when I am going to bed, that the next day will ABSOLUTELY be the day I finally meditate in the morning. I have yet to meditate.
Also, that sprinkle shop is like an edible version of the confetti bar. All things go.
you should go to theCBS Morningshow website and watch the clip of elin hildebrand interview from Wed show. A year ago she was on the show the day before her mastectomy. I have always loved her books but after listening to her tell her story of her last year I admire her strength and wisdom.
Ok I’ll give Bloodline another try. I watched 1.5 episodes and was really bored! But also quite drugged up from pregnancy nausea so I fell asleep…
OITNB sigh. I watched the first two seasons. I don’t know if I’ll watch the 3rd? I feel like I watched it because it was the first Netflix series and it was awesome, but I got SO overwhelmed by Season 2! And I just don’t know if I can take anymore?
Umm.. the baby pool thing – not ridiculous at all. I’m 6 months pregnant and already planning on buying one for next year. Shoot, who am I kidding? I’ve considered buying one for my preggo self right now. Just because the bun is still in the oven doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some quality pool time together! Not to mention, I live in Florida and it’s approximately 97584056580 degrees here.
Did you read elin hilderbrands new book yet?! Was it good? Still haven’t picked it up yet.
LOL I totally did #8! 2 summers ago… when my daughter was 13! Even bought myself a little wading chair to get down in there. It was awesome! I used it a bunch that summer. Then we moved, & I sold it in the garage sale. Why????
