June Favorites: Beauty.
IT’S JUNE! What the heck.
Hiii.
I love so many things this month!
Things I am still using every day that I mentioned last month: the bare minerals complexion rescue (I love it more every day!), the kevyn aucoin bronzer (mine slightly shattered while traveling and I’m devastated, wah), the tarte sunscreen and the st. tropez express tanning foam.
I tried the st. tropez in-shower gradual tan because I was SO excited about it. I’m still on the fence? First, how am I supposed to tell time in the shower if I don’t have a waterproof watch? I don’t know if I left it on long enough. I had to get out of the shower anyway to wash the tan off my hands, so I just looked at my phone and gauged the time. But it’s supposed to be easy… like you stay in the shower, don’t dry off, etc. I didn’t find it so simple. And it’s very gradual, like it says.
Also, I bought this oribe texturizing spray after a bunch of you guys recommended it to me. I needed something less than hairspray for a few events this month and I had only heard good things. I’ve only used it twice but so far, I really like it.
Oh oh and I switched this up a bit – like why am I so slow on the uptake? I guess I don’t need a single solitary picture for everything, especially since I repeat a bunch, and I thought the listed style may be easier to read too. Still rambly though. Oops.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Travel Packet: how cute and convenient is this?! I found these at sephora and grabbed a few for traveling this summer. Eddie and I both use this cream on our face at night, so we buy the big tub and it’s a pain to travel with. These are ideal and they had a few others of their products too.
Unite 7 Seconds Conditioner: I’ve used this stuff off and on for years. Ages ago (maybe 6 or 7 years?) I used it religiously, buying it at my salon. More recently though, my hair is nuts. It’s completely changed since having a baby and is more dry than usual even though I’m not using as many products on it and is just… I don’t know. Coarser? Wavier? Suckier? I like the last one. Whatever – it’s constantly a tangled mess and this is saving my comb’s life when I get out of the shower.
Essie Go Ginza: I saw someone wearing this shade on instagram and like a day later my cousin Lacy was talking about it and showed it to me. It’s so pretty. It’s like a neutral purple. Can I call it a neutral purple? That’s definitely what it is.
Clarins Golden Glow Booster: I used this allll the time last year and absolutely loved it. I even started using it in my body lotion in early summer of 2014. And then we moved, I used it up and didn’t think about it in the winter. I bought another and am freaking.over.it. It gives me the best natural color ever – with no self tan smell.
Alterna Summer Ocean Waves: I bought this summer’s version of this last month before I knew that the old school John Frieda one was back! I always love these though, and I think I’ve only dried my hair five or so times since Max was born, and they work great on semi-damp hair with lots of scrunching. And smells like summer. Duh.
Victoria’s Secret Bronze Shimmer Lotion: Max and I did lots of laps walking at the mall with all the rain we’ve had in June, and I walked into Victoria’s Secret during the semi-annual sale. This lotion was 50% off and it smelled like something I bought from VS like twelve years ago, so of course I HAD to have it. I am very impressed – it’s not sparkly, just slightly shimmery. It doesn’t transfer or rub off, especially on Max. But it washes right off with soap and water.
Fresh Sugar Nude Lip Balm: I never, ever wear nude lipsticks – they wash me out like no other. The closest I come is MAC creme cup. I was tempted by this, which was weird considering I haven’t loved many of the other shades in this line (besides my all-time love advanced lip therapy), and I’m so glad I bought it. It has enough pink in it for my pale skin. It brightens up my face when I have no makeup on but need to run somewhere.
Bare Minerals Candy Pop Lip Oil Balm: Oh my gosh. I think I love this one better than the peach shade I bought in the spring. This is awesome. Almost like a balmy version of candy yum-yum?! So moisturizing, don’t need a mirror to apply, it’s perfect. I’ve also mixed it with the nude fresh balm above.
Clinique Pop Primer Lipstick in Wow Pop: I broke down and finally bought one of these lipsticks! I absolutely love the formula, it’s not drying whatsoever and it lasts for a good while. The colors are gorgeous (I also bought sweet pop) and it goes on super smoothly. There aren’t any duplicates for some of my favorite MAC shades, but those happen to be mattes anyway so it all works out. Have you tried these?!
It Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Palette: you might remember that I used this palette all through the fall when I was traveling on my book tour, meaning it was the first thing I grabbed when going away for my brother’s wedding weekend. I had no time prior to test out a long-lasting makeup look and this is always a sure bet. I love these colors, they work well together – this palette is so reliable.
Philosophy Fresh Cream Rollerball: I absolutely had to include this because there is finally a fresh cream rollerball! I’m pretty sure I begged for one a few months ago in a post. This is such a fresh-but-sweet-but-not-sickening scent and it’s perfect in a rollerball. Adore.
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Rollerball: gahhhh this is THEEEE best summer scent. I love it so much – it has just enough of the old-school nostalgic beach scent that reminds me of my childhood, while also some hints of vanilla-y/coconut stuff. So good.
Okay so tell me what’s up! Are you getting the Urban Decay naked smoked palette? I’m sort of tempted but, um, I so don’t need it. Like at all! And I’m barely doing stuff on my eyes these days anyway. What else are you loving? Any cool summer things? I’m super out of the loop.
{as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are a few amazon affiliate links above. thank you for being here!}

That Clinique lipstick is beautiful x

Man I wish I had your beauty budget.. :(
Ditto! Although every so often, I treat myself and stock up on lots of fun stuff. I wait until I have a coupon or points to use on my credit card or something like that. It’s worth the occasional splurge. :)
What do you use to apply the bare minerals complexion rescue?
I just switched from a more traditional BB cream (which I applied with my fingers), but I feel like I need a different method because the gel/creme texture is way too delicate.
my fingers! mostly because of lack of time. :)
Oh my stars, Philosophy Fresh Cream is my ultimate summer scent. I’m so happy to see they have it in a roller ball! Day = made!
Also, I’ve been debating purchasing that IT Cosmetics palette. I hear wonderful things, but I have a lot of UD Naked palettes and similar – would you recommend adding it even though I have a lot of natural palettes?
I also don’t need the Naked Smokey palette, because I don’t really wear eye makeup much (ever) but it’s so pretty…and I keep thinking that maybe it’ll be the one product that finally turns me into an eyeshadow guru. HA.
I really want to look at a rollerball for one of the Marc Jacobs perfumes. They’re so convenient and pretty!
love these posts. gives me so much inspiration! (psst, BTW: it’s JULY) :)
I’m really intrigued by all the self-tanner/bronzers mentioned here! Being stuck in an office + Pittsburgh’s constant gray sky = I am SO PALE.
Do you use any kind of anti-frizz hair products? My wavy/curly hair is a mess this summer. I can barely wear it down most days because it sucks in all the moisture and humidity and I just end up looking like a poodle…
Man that’s a lot of products! I love Urban Decay Naked ANYTHING palette, love it. With two children I need dry shampoo, obsessed with Dry Bar, Sephora. Good finds!
I’ve recently become re-obsessed with LUSH products – like OMG. I was in the store on Saturday freaking out over every single product. I bought the Montalbano shampoo bar, which I love so far, and got a sample of R&B leave-in-conditioner, which is also amazing. I have coarse, curly hair, and I’m planning to buy a full-size tub when I go back in a few weeks. I also bought Lovely Jubblies firming cream, on which the verdict is still out since I’ve only been using it for three days, but supposedly it’s fantastic for moms who are breastfeeding. You can use it everywhere, though.
And when Max gets a bit older, buy him a bar of Fun. It’s a moldable, play-doh-like soap and shampoo in one. My niece loves it! And you can feel good about it since it’s made of all-natural, good-for-you ingredients.
Gah. I want to buy the whole store.
Love love love the Essie nail polish and yeah, you can call it neutral purple, I would totally call it that too xD

Rosie’s Life
Haha! Just this morning I watched a video of Vivianna Does Makeup trying out that St. Tropez shower tanner stuff. She seemed to have a similar reaction to yours. I love that girl. I’m glad to hear you like the Sugar lip products as well, because I’ve been thinking about splurging on the untinted SPF one. :-D
I’ve become OBSESSED with ColourPop eyeshadows in the last month. They have some crraazzzy bright colors but they also have some really great neutrals that are so easy to apply. In fact, I prefer to use my finger with them so they’re pretty awesome for travel. I could envision them being an easy “one color” look if you’re wanting something quick.
You’ve got me intrigued about the Fresh Sugar Nude Lip balm. I have given up entirely on attempting to wear a nude lip. It just makes me look half dead. I might have to give this a shot!
The Oribe texturing spray is awesome. BUT, save yourself a lot of money and try the Garnier Fructis Texture Tease. It is just as good, if not better. It’s not quite as drying as the Oribe can be. Not that the Oribe dries your hair out, but it has been a touch dry to touch. Does that make sense? Texture tease is magic, everyone I know who has tried it, looooves it. And it’s maybe $5 at target. MAYBE.
I second this Garnier recommendation! It’s often less than $3 at CVS. I learned about it from Tati/GlamLifeGuru on YouTube and have converted all of my friends. It’s awesome!
I just shared my skincare favorites last week! I love Dior shadows and iipglow but have been using a lot of Shiseido skincare. And Guerlain tinted moisturizer!
I need the repair conditioner. My hair is SUCKY, too, and I’ve been using less products as well! I’ve been trying the Miracle 10 leave-in conditioner. So far, it’s nice but I haven’t seen a difference in my hair. I’ll keep using it, though!
I love the scents you choose! I have to smell the VS lotion. They had a very sexy now edition when I was in high school (2008) and it smelled so good. I’ve paid wayyyy too much for bottles people hoarded.
So the best, best, best self tanner on the market, hands down, is Tanwise Dark Tanning Mouse (with black bronzers). Sally Beauty Supply sells it for like $12. The bottle is comparable in size to the St. Tropez mousse, but a fraction of the price. I apply 1-2 times a week and the bottle lasts all summer long. No gross self tanner smell, its not sticky, it looks very natural on (though scary when it comes out of the bottle), and rinses to a gorgeous, realistic tan. I’ve not spray tanned once since discovering this product. Seriously. Try it. Apply it with a mitt, not your hands, or wear gloves. I’m super fair skinned and people think I’ve been on vacation (a long vacation). Its the holy grail of self tanners.
I’ve been using the Tanwise Dark Tanning Mousse for two weeks. Love It! Hands down the best self tanner ever. I applied it three times the first week to build color where I didn’t have any, and the second week I’ve used it once. I’m going to use it once a week from now on. I’ve applied with gloves, using a small circular motion to work it in. It is very dark when it comes out of the bottle, but quickly disappears as the product is absorbed. None of the nasty chemical smell either, just a pleasant light odor. I’m fair skinned and this looks very natural. No orange tint!
So when I use a shower-product that requires a timer. I set the timer on my phone. When I hear the alarm I know I’m done. Might be worth a try for next time your shower self-tanning.
I definitely don’t need the Urban Decay palette and absolutely shouldn’t bother with it – I can’t pull off a smoky eye without looking like I haven’t slept in six months – but I WANT IT SO BAD!
I’m curious, what do you use on your face for daytime moisturizer and sunscreen?
I’m love love loving the Candy Pop balm. So fun and bright for summer but easy to put on at my desk before a meeting. I found the little travel pouches of First Aid products this winter and haven’t gone back! Totally agree that they’re awesome for travel. Randomly found one in manfriend’s travel bag too ;) Your beauty favs are the best, every month!
I LOVE Unite and have been using their products for several years although have only recently discovered 7 seconds conditioner. Love love love! I am a tried and true Boosta and Boing user for my curly hair (just scrunch and diffuse!).
nice post!!I made a similar one on my blog pleaseee check it out!!

The It Cosmetics Palette looks amazing. I want to get my hands on it! x
Bitchin’ Pam’
I am so trying that in- shower self tanner. Aside from having a permanent bikini tan line from when I went to Key West in March (I was the same color as a lobster after being on a boat all day) I don’t have any tan going on and I miss it! Plus, my boyfriend hates the look of fake tans and this product sounds like it’s much more gradual than other fake tanners.
I love your taste in makeup!
It’s JULY!
I have had coarse, unreasonable thick hair my whole life. NOT the haircare-ad type, just BIG hair. UN – tameable. A natural by-product of Chinese and American Indian heritage with a little Scot-Irish thrown in for good measure…. Anyway, my life was completely changed forever (Not an exaggeration) when I found Ovation Cell Therapy after a Chicago DJ raved about it. it is NOT cheap. But it is so worth it to me. I haven’t used anything else for years. Maybe give your recovering-from-pregnancy hair a lift and try it? I use their shampoo, and then apply the cell therapy to wet hair and leave it on overnight. In the morning, rinse out, use conditioner only as necessary and style as usual. Except it is NOT as usual because my hair will actually BEHAVE now and it is a completely different texture than before! Get yourself the system…shampoo, conditioner and the cell therapy. You will be amazed and happy. Seriously. I thought I was doomed forever, but now I can have styles that were never available to me before. :)
I do think I’m going to get the smokey palette! definitely will need to watch some youtube tutorials though. This month I’ve gotten sucked into discovering new organic makeup that is actually cute! Credo (a store in SF that I found online) will make suggestions for products you already have for their natural counter part.
Please, please, please, tell me that you didn’t toss the Aucoin item that shattered. A little alcohol and a little patience will fix it. Go on line and look at any of the MILLIION videos showing how to repair shattered powdered items. It works…I promise.
I just started using Neutrogena Nourishing Longwear foundation and it’s fabulous. Perfect amount of coverage and very nice finish. I know you’re not a big foundation person, but I recommend it! I’ve also been a fan of “lived in” lipcolor. Super easy. Just tap on a lipstick of your choice (I’ve mostly been doing it with red or bright pink), blend in with your ring finger, and you have a nice, long lasting, “bitten” lip color. Keeps you from looking too done in the summer.
Love your beauty posts!!
There’s now a Golden Glow Booster version for the body available. ❤️❤️
you NEED Bondi Sands tanning foam. As a pasty white irish gal, this is by far and away the best sunless tanning product i have ever tried. My sister even does custom tans and i like this better. You can’t buy it here but you can purchase it online! The manager at Sephora took me aside this week and was like “OK – I know you didn’t get your tan naturally and I know its’ not a product you buy here… what is it?!” haha…
People…its June faves cuz June is over and she’s telling you what she used in June that she liked !!! ok…on to other things : )
For me for June I’ve tried some bold lips since ive been keeping my eyes easy with some benefit eye tints that dont run or smudge however i dont love the colors. I’ve tried Too Face Better than Sex mascara and find it ok. my brush got goopy so i wiped it off recently and see an improvement but it feels like it never washes off fully for me.. as for hair i recently got some moroccan oil hair volumizer but the jury is still out. I’m using he Kenra blow dry spray but its not speeding up my time at all. it smells nice and leaves hair soft but not doing anything for speed or making my blowout last. that being said…i swear i wake up most days now and my nice blown out straight hair is sweaty and totally curly but not in a good way. i cant get a blow out to last even 1 extra day. i guess im having some crazy dreams or something lately or maybe cuz its finally warmer….i just seem to wake up with crazy sweaty hair. anyone else ????????????
Ooh I love Fresh Sugar! I have been meaning to try out First Aid, I saw the brand reviewed on another blog, and this repair cream looks like a great option to try out!

Oh my goodness!!! You introduced this to me from all the mentions in Favorites and I finally found the rollerball at the Monroeville Macy’s this weekend. I cannot stop slathering it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love how after it warms up to your skin it smells like powder almost… like clean summer!!!!!! Velvety coconut… LOVE!!!
And ..of course I meant Bronze Goddess!!
