Tuesday Things.
1. Puhhhlease look at this honeycomb cereal pound cake. Can this just magically appear in my kitchen, like, 10 minute ago?
2. You know how single socks, bobby pins and hair ties always go missing even though you have ten thousand of them? Um, this also happens to us with laundry baskets. LAUNDRY BASKETS. Where are they all? Where are they going?
3. Have you seen this newsies/uptown funk video? Dead. Seriously. The best ever.
4. I’ve secretly been eyeing my neighbors’ hydrangeas for weeks now and was elated when they brought a little bouquet of them over. They remind me so much of Nantucket and I want to grow them in these stunning colors! What do I need to do? Or are they just gorgeous since we’ve have buckets of rain every.single.day.?
5. I’m kind of psyched for amazon prime day tomorrow and hoping there are some exxxcellent deals (cough cough nepresso cough) – are you looking for anything? Has this day happened before and been worth it? Because now that I’m a mom I remember nothing.
6. Are these some of the craziest iPhone photograph hacks or what?
7. True Detective is just… what? I don’t even know. I don’t hate it, but last year I was also sort of WTF at this point. Thoughts? Annnnd did you watch Masters of Sex? EEEEP I love it so much. Janice Ian for life.
8. What are the right name for these? No really, what do you call them?
9. My go-to snack has been yellow corn tortillas toasted over my gas stovetop then sprinkled with queso fresco. It’s dreamy, kind of embarrassing and easy as heck.
10. Did I just do a Tuesday Things full of questions? I think I did.

A-friggin-men to the laundry baskets! Also, love #9. It’s like a classy version of my go-to college snack: corn tortilla with shredded cheddar (microwaved #becausecollege) with thousand island dressing. What can I say, I hate myself and love myself for feeling nostalgic/hungry for that again.
I cannot wait until tomorrow. I am looking at a new paperwhite kindle, a little nespresso machine (Because I am a brat and want it to take on vacation) and a toaster. Our toaster is in a sad state now.
Also, those hydrangeas make me smile. Mine are out of control this year with all the rain and they are 3 different colors. I have no idea why, but I keep cutting them.
Completely unrelated to anything in this post – I just wanted to tell you that I share a similar bee/bug phobia – a massive bee was on my car door (like looks like it is a trackerjacker from the Hunger Games waiting to sting me with venom) and at work, in a dress, I crawled from my back seat into the driver’s seat to avoid opening the door with said bee. I’m really hoping no clients witnessed me doing this in the parking lot.
they’re TOTALLY “freeze pops” where I’m from :) and I’ve been SO into just plain white hydrangeas lately!
Those would be Otter Pops :)
LOVE Hydrangea…in any color but I kill all the things so…
They are otter pops…everyone knows that ;)
loved the uptown funk/newsies video!
Thank you again, Jessica! It always makes my day when I see you pop up in my referral traffic! Your support is SO SO SO very appreciated!! XO
To get hydrangeas in multiple colors you have to put stuff in the soil to change the PH balance. if you put a rusty nail near the roots, you should get bluer flowers. Pennies and coffee grounds buried should get you pinker ones.
At least – that’s what my uncle told me :) But his look nice!
Ahh!! I want those hydrangeas! They are one of my favorite flowers besides orchids, they are just so pretty! Yum, I want that cake in my kitchen too. Happy Tuesday!
I call them freeze pops! :)
I’m super excited for Amazon Prime Day. Not looking for anything in particular, but still fun to browse. I don’t know how I lived before Amazon Prime existed.
Um, my mind is kind of blown that Freezies isn’t the top answer for #8. Also, you totally aren’t alone in the case of the disappearing laundry baskets. We’ve lost THREE in just as many years. WTF is going on with them?
Otter pops, duh!
Otter pops?! NO. Freeze pops forever. Also–thanks for the reminder of Amazon Prime day! I almost forgot I was going to spend all my money tomorrow.
Freezies! I’ve never heard of them being called anything else!? I’m also wtf on True Detective although I love how badass Rachel McAdams is.
Hi. No link on #3?
gah sorry! i fixed it. :)
A resounding YES and HTF (is that a real acronym? because it should be) on the laundry basket issue. HOW? Also, freezies, or freezie pops. Also, thank you for mentioning Amazon Prime day! I would have missed it, and that would have been (a) sad, and (b) expensive.
They’re ICY POLES here where I live in Australia :) Such a funny topic when people have their childhood memories attached to a name!
I’m actually loving True Detective. I feel like more layers are being peeled back from the 3 main characters veeery slowly. Which works because they all hold their cards very close to their chests. What a flipping intense end to the episode! Still reeling. Loved the shell-shocked reactions. I can’t compare this season to Season 1. It seems unfair because they’re so, so different. I’ve been hooked in a different way this time!
Ok, now you’ve got me thinking about Tortillas….. hmmmm. Love the photo and all the bold colours.
Flame-kissed corn tortillas with Seriously Sharp Cheddar, and charred-up bell peppers to make roasted pepper recipes, those are the only two things that make me miss the gas stove in our last home. So quick and so very delicious. Eat 2 for me.
I adore hydrangeas…I have multiple bushes in my yard. You can purchase blue varieties or pink varieties but the nuitrients in the soil that make it either alkaline or acidic truly affect the resulting color. The reason many of the hydrangeas on Cape Cod are so blue is the fact that there are so many pine trees and the pine needles that drop and decay effect the soil acidy. The blooms on my “blue” hydrangeas are a purple color and because I love the color, I just don’t add anything to the soil. As the summer turns to fall, the blooms turn into a burgundy color…gorgeous.
Finally, you can purchase a variety called “Endless Summer”. This variety will produce blooms from spring right into fall. If you visit a large garden center, I am certain you will be ale to find a variety of hydrangeas to choose from.
FREEZE POPS!
Those are freeze pops and I ate 12 million of them as a kid. Especially the blue ones :)
To echo what others have said, my mom just told me LAST NIGHT that my hydrangeas are so blue because of acidity in the soil. Apparently you can buy stuff at Home Depot or wherever to sprinkle on the soil to give it the acidity.
They are ice pops, duh. Or maybe freezer pops… Now I doubt myself.
That pound cake is so much fun! And now I must go eat a pound of fruit. That pic is making me hungry!
I can’t stop watching that Newsies/Uptown funk video, like seriously if I wasn’t obsessed with that movie enough now this. Love it. Also Freeze Pops all the way.
Definitely freeze pops!
Otter Pops! (But this is a brand name and it probably just depends on where you grew up. Perhaps us West Coasters called them Otter Pops?)
Also, I’m going to continue to give this season of True Detective a chance. Last season was stellar, but I’ve found it difficult to get into this season. The cast is great though!
We call them freezies here where I live. (Canada)
