Vacation Things, Part 1.
My my how times have changed. There was a point where I used to upload vacation photos to the blog while I was still on vacation! Remember?! I bet you might. I totally wish I had the time to do that, but now I find myself doing it two weeks later, whomp whomp. #momlife
You’ve probably seen these pictures a thousand times before, or at least close to one hundred since I think this is the sixth(?) year I’ve shared the same vacation. But it’s my favorite! Favoritest place ever. We go to Boyne City, Michigan (and have for my whole liiiife) and it’s just the best. A leeeeettle different when you have a baby, but I think this has been the thing I’ve been most excited to share with Max. This probably part one of three or four, because I’m a maniac.
P.S. a bunch of you have been saying you want a “where to stay/eat/play” post for northern Michigan and while I’ve gone there for 30+ years now we do a bunch of the same things. But I think that I can throw it together if you want it? Let me know!
[humidity curls were out.of.control.]
[i want to sit on this dock and write ten novels]
[lake street has the best sandwiches ever]
[like this one, a perfect BLAT. i’ve had to make once a week since we’ve been home.]
[the fruitiest citrus-iest beer]
[a few years ago boyne city got a starbucks, which just feels completely WRONG to me. didn’t stop me though.]
[do you think max liked his first swing? you will have to wait and see.]
[boyne city morning]
[charlevoix dusk]
[morning snooze]
[<3 boyne]
[this never works]
[first night’s sunset]
[we are unsure. very unsure.]
[why don’t i live here. no really?]
[GAH]
[sandy shandy]
[happy hour snacks]
[cloudy, unfiltered sunset. cotton candy!]
[#vacation]
[these gap flips flops have seen better days but are so my favorites]
[to die for eggs ben from cafe sante]
[i need that nap]
[no lie, THE BEST tossed salad i have ever made. all farmer’s market loot. i’ll post it soon on instagram.]
[because of this, i just want to jump in]
(These pics are a mix between iphone 6 photos, photos from my DSLR (I use a nikon d800 + 24-70mm lens) and photos from my samsung nx300 mirrorless camera (which is fab). I ended up switching between what was convenient at the time (read: where the baby placement was in my life at the moment).

Gorgeous!
I’ve lived in Central Michigan my whole life and still always appreciate the beauty of Northern Michigan. I swear at least once a day that I’ll move there when I’m finally done with school. I try to make it to the Traverse City area at least twice a year. I just don’t feel complete without making those trips! :)
Those curls are killing me.
Yes yes post about what to do etc in N. Michigan!
My hubby and i are going in a couple of weeks and I’d LOVE a guide to help us choose what to do!
Great vacation photos! We have vacationed in the same place since I was little and I love it. I look forward to it every summer.

Yes please to the Northern Michigan guide! I moved to Ann Arbor this year and would love some MI vacation ideas!
phew things warm my heart more than my son’s humidity curls! Lovely photos, as always.
Is that the Doona car seat stroller? I just saw a video on that. Do you love/hate?
it’s the orbit baby and i absolutely LOVE it. more about it here: http://www.howsweeteats.com/2015/07/baby-favorites-six-months-in/
Such great photos! Loved seeing your little one unsure about the water lol

Sweet Spontaneity
Love these posts!
Yes, please do share your tips on where to go in Northern Michigan. We always go to Harbor Country or the Saugatuck area but I want to head north sometime!
I would LOVE a boyne must do!! In fact I was going to email you this weekend for some hot spots because I leave in a week for 10 days! Sleeping bear dunes and the mighty Mack are on my must do list. My friend lives a mile away from the lake and bikes into boyne to shop and hang out (I know) so I’m so freakin excited!
After seeing your pictures I want to go baaaack! My family has been camping in Boyne City for 50+ years. We said the same thing about how weird it was that Boyne City now has a Starbucks (but it totally didn’t stop us either). Thanks for sharing!
I need this vacation! So peaceful!
I love going the same place almost every year. Lately the timeshare dates haven’t been in my favor so I just send little and grandma. Usually we head to South Lake Tahoe every summer, and having a kid to share it with is definitely a new experience.
Thanks for sharing your gorgeous pictures and welcome home.
xoxo

Wow–I was ridiculously excited to see a picture of eggs benedict from Cafe Sante! I’ve also vacationed in northern MI since I was a kid–the last few years I’ve made my family go to Cafe Sante every trip specifically so I could get the eggs benedict! My pictures of the dish haven’t turned out nearly as delicious-looking as yours, though. :-) Can’t wait to go back again next year–yum!
oh oh i have the samsung nx300 as well! isn’t it cute? i couldn’t believe i was choosing a samsung camera but among the mirrorless it had the specs i wanted and i love it! i can’t get the smart camera app to work to sync it with my iPhone though! have you had problems with that?
fab vacation photos. max looks so big in that first photo of him!
Okay full disclosure, I live in SW MIchigan and have been going north my whole life, but I still would love to see your guide!

My son has the same Sriracha tee as Eddie – we LOVE Sriracha!
I live an hour east of Lansing. I absolutely love Michigan. I love the towns that hug Lake Michigan!! My sister and I are going to Mackinac Island in October to celebrate the “Somewhere in Time” weekend! Another beautiful place to visit!!!
Is the water really that blue and is it clear or is that just the way it turned out with your camera? It looks like the water you see in the Caribbean.
Makes me anxious to get out there to visit my parents who just officially moved to Ludington (further south from you on that side of Lake Michigan. My dad grew up spending summers at Bass Lake in Pentwater, MI and we visited when my son about 18 mos old. I’m going to visit in October and can’t wait to get that Lake Michigan feeling again. Luckily, most of the tourists should be gone, as well, so it should be quiet and beautiful.
Yes!! Please do post a guide northern Michigan! I’m hoping to go there next summer and would love some ideas :)
Gorgeous pictures, Jessica! I can’t wait to see part 2, 3, 4, 5 or however many you do! I’ve always wanted to visit/live in Michigan, so I’d love to hear the places you’ve loved over the years!
HIS HAIR! Oh, my goodness! Ha ha! (My hair is straight as an arrow so curls are just astonishing to me.) And god bless you for putting a hat on him. I didn’t know about hats until I was in my 30’s and my poor skin is going to pay the piper someday.
Cheese danish! Woohoo
Runny yolks rule.
And yes, I would love a Northern Michigan recommendations list. My husb lived in Kalamazoo for two years and always talks about going back to MI for a vacation. Looking forward to parts 2-4!
Your pictures of the sunset above the water are stunning! xx
I love your pics! http://blogdenuria.com
Oh man Max’s curls. And I want a vacation now. Beautiful!
Would LOVE LOVE LOVE a post of how to vacation in Northern Michigan. Any and all of your favorites. :)
I love seeing the vacation pictures & activities. We do the same things!! My husband’s family has a condo in Bay Harbor and they have been vacationing there since he was a kid. His parents stay for the summer and we go throughout the summer and occasionally winter when we are feeling crazy. Would love to see the things you do compared to some of the things we do. So much fun. Looking forward to the fall trip.
i used to live in traverse city – such a beautiful area!
That picture of Max asleep on his daddy’s chest made my heart melt into a little mess of baby-fever. So adorable!
And P.S. Forget the salad, I want every donut in that box.

Please post a eat/stay/play! We just visited Boyne City this year and I think plan on a yearly trip. We loved all the surrounding towns, but I think Boyne has the most lakeside stay options. Absolutley loved it!

Ahhh, take me back to Summer! And what I wouldn’t give to get my hands on those cherry donuts!
